1. Any further Intel gathering to happen *now*, before picking up anyone more except maybe Kyouko
2. All general planning, which is what I was aiming at with my previous vote, to happen en route to within, say, 25 miles of Iowa's location in SEA
3. Localization of Iowa via scrying, prep work for combat initiation to happen again something like 25 miles out
I for one agree to this structure. With exception on 1, that I don't remember if any of the Asunaro meguca have useful sensory powers that might aid finding a survivor in Thiruvananthapuram. I'll try to check...

I see hitting Iowa now as an important part of being careful. They've had all of about 10 minutes to realize that they might have to react to us in any way. If any of their trump cards require prep work, they're out of play.

On the other side, I'm not aware of any fruitful opportunities for intel gathering if we do burn wallclock time on them. If someone has ideas about this, I'd like to hear them, because if there are good opportunities here I'm completely overlooking them at the moment.

For me, within the paradigm of an immediate operation, caution is synonymous with gaining intel without tripping over any of their trump cards. If they left any survivors in Thiruvananthapuram, those are the world's leading experts on Iowa's capabilities, thus, if we think we can find one efficiently we do so. After that, yes, scouting and prep work from far out, from which to plan our closer approach.

L) The Iowa groups heavy hitter is miss Rou Other-Shoe, who is, as you know, even now waiting in orbit ready to deploy.
M) Firn's been running another quest behind our backs, and all his so-called writing delays have been geared toward syncing up the two in preparation for this crossover.

Anyway, let me see about putting together a vote that ought to cover common ground.

[X] Check in with Mami if she thinks we can triangulate their position by moving at right angles to her signal in the Mobile Oppression Platform
-[X] If Mami considers this plausible, ask if Oriko can try scrying the area around the point we identify so we can work out the size of the denial zone. Ask Sayaka to assist.
[X] Bounce the idea off our friends of heading to one of Iowa's former target cities and scooping up a random magical girl into timestop to question them on Iowa's capabilities.
-[X] They're smart people who can help us work out how reasonable that is given the limitations we're working with in the timestop. Go with whatever they decide
[X] Retrieve everyone
-[X] Go over Rules of Engagement with everyone before we drop off the Mitakihara Defense Team
--[X] No gem shots
---[X] Don't elaborate on this. The girls who are lichbombed will understand and the ones who aren't will just understand it as not wanting to permanently cripple people.
--[X] Severe maiming is on the table. We can heal people up afterward. Don't hold back on the enemy if it would give them a chance to harm a member of the coalition.
--[X] Throw everything you've got into this. Sabrina will provide cleanses during battle for the strike team so do not hold back.
--[X] Come back alive, even if you have to break one of the other rules to do it. If you have to choose between the enemy's lives and ours, we pick ours.
-[X] Share any intelligence we have on the enemy, including Oriko's belief that they've got antimagic of some sort that's stopping our scrying attempts.
-[X] Anyone with information gathering abilities, options, or ideas should bring them up now
[X] Drop off the Defense team and either head for the target location, at an angle to attempt triangulation, or to Iowa's previous known location depending on what the team decided earlier.
[X] During travel get everyone as familiar as possible with one another's capabilities and make sure everyone knows their roles
[X] Suggest anyone who could benefit from enchanting or other time and magic consuming prep work take advantage of the ride over
[X] When we're 25 miles out from the target's presumed location, slow down, deploy ribbons, grief nanocloud, and anything else we can think of that might be able to give us early warning that we're walking into something.

I... Almost really, massively like this. I mean, it's too long for this vote -- I'd rather do the talking locally and tell Firn to cut it a short one, I think. But generally I find myself really liking this.

On the other side, I'm not aware of any fruitful opportunities for intel gathering if we do burn wallclock time on them. If someone has ideas about this, I'd like to hear them, because if there are good opportunities here I'm completely overlooking them at the moment.
I mean, couldn't we pull them into timestop, let them know we're working to stop Iowa, and ask if they can tell us anything we might need to know?

Yes, it might require a bit to explain that we're really on their side, and the timestop is just to stop Iowa from being able to respond in time to stop us, but I think it might be doable. We'd just have to tell them we're essentially using The World to steal a march on Iowa.

Can you be more specific? By locally, do you mean the girls in the MOP with us right this instant and wait to pick everyone up until next vote? Or do you mean pick everyone up then break before we drop off the defense team?

I mean I'm in the process of coming down on the side of "let's have firn run a short update this round where we air a bunch of our thoughts to our friends and decide IC whether it's viable to go looking for Iowa survivors without exiting timestop for more than a tiny period of time at most." Well, with a "if we decide to do that or try to scry Iowa from Japan, just do it instead of breaking to voting" tacked on at the end of the vote.

I'd rather do that than continue with the line of discussion over whether or not to do it. And I'm way the hell too tired atm to write a vote that does that effectively and is also long, and I'm kind of done, tbh.

But my point is: overall, I like what you're putting down. A lot. I'm just really, truly done with the question of whether or not to do XYZ. So we're gonna answer that and then get back on track, if that's alright.

It's going to be easier for me to go along with this than not. I'm just going to do it. The hell with it. Either the needle-in-haystack problem is solvable or not.

[X] Express that you're worried:
-[X] Some part of you is pretty sure that you won't just get to wipe Iowa out from timestop.
-[X] You are, in fact, actually new to being a magical girl and aren't certain how to evaluate the risks involved in fighting Iowa, who you know so little about specifically, at various levels of preparation.
--[X] You want these people crushed. They smell like a legitimate threat to everything you know and love, and for all that you make a rule of trying to see all Magical Girls as victims first, you really haven't found a lot of sympathy in yourself for Iowa. If they weren't almost assuredly in a population center, you actually might consider throwing some terrajoules at them from orbit. Heck, you are considering doing that, just intentionally missing and using the whole thing as a distraction -- a nice, thousand-ton chunk of rock doing mach fifty-six turns out to be incredibly hard to ignore. As-is? You've been going over exactly what it means for you to stop sandbagging as a team for this. Repeatedly. In different variations. Enchanted grief and infinite magic present a lot of options, and which specific ones to go with is something to talk about once you've got everyone rounded up. And if you have to escalate, you will, because these people are going to be trying to kill you.
--[X] But you'd expected to do a lot more intel-gathering on Iowa before fighting them, and part of you is saying that you could just... take an orbital flight path in timestop at 20-Gs to the last place Iowa is known to have been, find someone to ask about their capabilities. If anybody has a notion of how to find Magical Girls in a city without leaving timestop for more than a tiny bit at most, that might be a really good idea. And if we could come up with a way to let Oriko or Sayaka scry Iowa's specific location, outside whatever interdiction they have, from timestop here in Japan, maybe that would be smart too. Otherwise it's plan A: get everyone, do planning, sit down at maximum scrying range, look at where Iowa is, do more planning, then attack them.
[X] Listen to your friends. If anybody comes up with a clear idea of how to find someone who has previously fought Iowa, or it proves viable to scry Iowa's specific location from Japan, just do those things without breaking to voting.

I'm gonna try to avoid touching this for the rest of the week. But, well, I guess we'll see.

Gonna be real here, I don't think we're terribly likely to find any survivors from the Thiruvananthapuram group.

I mean, let's be real here. You've got a band of friends, you've been doing fairly well against Witches...and then, out of nowhere, this group of Meguca just up and curb-stomps you and your band, possibly dropping Lichbombs and Witchbombs. I think if I was in that situation, I'd be pretty quick to despair, even knowing that means I'll become a Witch.

Also, even if there are surviving Meguca, we need to be careful.

They're probably going to be dangerously close to Witching Out, and even if we're in time to drain the Grief from their Soul Gems, they probably won't be in any condition to fight, between their group getting taken out, the Lichbomb, and the Witchbomb.

So we'll need to find a way to help them, all while being careful that they don't bomb our group. Yeah, that's hell we're walking into.

M) Firn's been running another quest behind our backs, and all his so-called writing delays have been geared toward syncing up the two in preparation for this crossover.
N) "Crossover" with another quest. Iowa group has a magical girl partnered with a (her?) witch. The witch is Durga. The magical girl is Anna Sanchez. We are all bread. This list is now in alphabetical order.

So. Just read the new chapter.

I'm squatting on a chair (heels on ground, suka) while my mouth is stuck in this happy grin that looks worrying from the outside, petting my grey kitten that decided my knee was a good vantage point, and sipping on a cup of tea.
My cousing just confirmed I'm chaneling so much L energy is not even funny. Got the shadows under the eyes and everything!

Excellent update as always, Firn, have a lovely day.

Also, congratulations to the cat-girl for getting story-leaked.

Truly, there is but one weapon that we can count on against Iowa.

Once, we sealed this power away. But now, the time has come to unleash the power...of Head Pats!

Are you sure this is the moment to release the Head Pats?

Once they're out, it won't be possible to seal them back, and no one will be safe from them.
We may be able to unleash them later against Waluigipurginnight.

Like to clarify -- very specifically, I think saying no gem shots and just not clarifying it is an excellent idea, to be honest. I think promoting as high a level of acceptable force as possible without promoting shots that would lichbomb (headshots, neck shots, mainly) is a good idea considering the circumstances, especially if we comment on meguca durability as part of it. The direct line regarding maiming force is, as much as I never thought I'd ever say anything like this in my life and am slightly upset that I am, a very good point to make: it's hard to regrow legs in a combat scenario without specialized powers, and the loss of one is a debilitating injury to most meguca, while it's not a real lichbombing threat.

So, those are big things I liked about this vote.

New idea for punishing the Iowa Group.

[Q] Make them read My Immortal.

Yes, it might violate the Geneva Convention to do that to them...but how many war crimes are they guilty of, again?

[WorstIdeaTM] Make a barrier in timestop and shove Iowa in there on timeout for not playing fair.

While I am sure that this has likely been brought up, we should also keep in mind the possibility that the Soujus might try something while we go after probably-Iowa group.

Well, it definitely slipped my mind. I feel like the rear guard can probably handle it though? We've got a Sayaclone, the Animators, and the Mega-mangler Mecha Musume herself, Akiyama Atsuko. That's a pretty good force.

[WorstIdeaTM] Make a barrier in timestop and shove Iowa in there on timeout for not playing fair.

Using barriers as an offensive tactic isn't that bad of an idea, honestly. Not for this situation specifically, but other people won't know they can leave freely unless we tell them, so it might work for disorienting people and getting a cheap shot or two in.

My mental image is that the barrier consists entirely of a slightly cartoony version of Mami's living room where Brina and Mami-chibis serve tea and cookies and berate offenders like a mother would a rambunctious child.

Okay, I think I've got a protocol for if we do encounter any surviving Meguca.

[X] Pull into timestop.
-[X] Drain Grief immediately.
-[X] "Hi. Iowa started investigating our home via scrying, so we're using stopped time to steal a march on them. Think you can give us some info on them, since you seem to have encountered them?"
-[X] No matter what, make sure they know that we'll help them get back on their feet, and they're free to sit out of the fight against Iowa if they don't think they can handle another round with them.
