Actually, if all meguca magic is hope, then what's actually happening when we make 'happy' magic. Is base hope unaspected and then you tint it with specific emotions? Is that why magical girls each have an instinctive special magic? Is their magic automatically tinted by the emotions that were invested in their wish and their wish magic is just the result of that particular emotional tinting?

@The Phoenixian

So I just got a Discord PM from Firnbot.

"have we actually examined the feather yet"

I set myself that reminder a year ago, while Godwinson's Discord was still active, as a joke.

It turns out our pace of progress was the real joke all along. :V
You know, people keep saying "when it was a thing" but the discord is still a thing, it just doesn't have an official PMAS channel.

"Miss Kazusa... Michiru always did enjoy making new friends," Mami says. "She just might. And meeting Miss Toshimichi as a, a coalition might be a good thing. It would strengthen our position, for all that we wouldn't have as many magical girls as she might."

This is a British level of understatement on Mami's part.

Our group and the Pleiades combined have 13 members, if you include Oriko and Kirika.

Toshimichi (loosely) rules over twice as many magical girl groups as we have magical girls, period.

If a Tokyo group averages four members, there are over a hundred affiliates of the Tokyo Council.

Yeah but we have Mami Tomoe!

: P

... and mom! Homura

Mm, quality over quantity? There's definitely something to that, we've won against pretty bad odds even without Homura or Sayaka's help, and White Ribbon is ludicrously OP as a cohesive whole.

Still, quantity has a quality all its own...

Why we have Mami "Unlimited Musket Works" Tomoe :D

Homura: We will win, because we have quality and quantity.
Sayaka: Yeah, you're right!
Homura: We've got Sayaka as quantity.
Sayaka: ...
Homura: And the rest of us as quality.

One day Sayaka and Homura are going to be in a bar and its going to go like -

Sayaka: When DID we become friends?
Homura: No idea - I blame Sabrina
Sayaka: You always blame Sabrina
Homura: It's normally her fault

Sayaka: Um, Homura? There's four of us.
Homura: Oh right, you're somewhat useful this time. I keep forgetting.
Sayaka: Wha-! WHAT'S THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN!?
Homura: Okay, the three of us, plus Sayaka.
Sayaka: *Grumbles loudly*

Homura: So the four of us-
Sayaclone: Make that five.
Homura: I'll make it three if you interrupt me again.

We stuck an enchanted chibi's arm out of our range and it lost the witchiness but held together.

We have stuck enchanted grief out momentarily, but we don't know if it does anything over its lifetime, or influences the dissipation in any way. Mostly I'm asking this because I'm planning to vote to give Sato Kimiko a marble to keep this Sunday. (I don't expect the result to be exciting, but I do kinda want to know.)

Yes. I really do want to get on the ball on that. If we can't do it in timestop then tomorrow will be our last chance to examine (potentially) bomb-y things before the weekend, where we'll be with Mami all day long.

----------------------------

Incidentally, greeting our new lurker into the fold recent reminds me of something small that occurred to me:

So, the members of #milesgloriosus all say "fresh meat" when we entered the IRC. This kinda ties into the fact that they're pretty strongly hinted to know about the witchbomb, (where the "witches as prey, grief seeds as a food" metaphor would make a new magical girl very much fresh meat) and the IRC's cheerfully dark atmosphere.

But we established all that almost as soon as the update came out.

No, the real question is:

If Sabrina metaphorically "makes her own food," via self-cleansing... wouldn't that make her more of a vegetable?

It's simultaneously sad, funny, and entirely true that we can most likely take on the entirety of Tokyo with just two of our group members, though including Mami and her ribbons would make it all much faster and more convenient.

Heck, Homura could possibly do it alone if they all started in the same building.

I mean, maybe? 100+ rolls on the conceptual superpower gatcha is a lot of chances to randomly encounter something that counters Homura.

It's surprisingly hard, given the circumstances. What could they possibly use, unless they attacked before she stops time? Antimagic may work, if it's in a bubble around a girl. Either it kills the timestop when Homura gets close, the girl gets to move around inside the time stop unaffected, or Homura just shoots her with a sniper rifle before either of those things become relevant. Having some sort of thread-shield that's immune to bullets and would connect to her if you got close might do it, but that's rather specific. Mind control, if applied beforehand? Precognition, to know not to show up in the first place? Illusions or invisibility might help you survive too.

Considering that all magical girls share a common, easily exploitable weakness in their Soul Gems, the only real way to stop her would be some way to render it immune to bullets and just outlast her reserves. Most characters in Mitakihara are pretty much the cream of the crop when it comes to esoteric magic, other than Kyouko and canon-Sayaka.

Sabrina is not a vegetable. She has an entirely different variety of brain damage.

You know, people keep saying "when it was a thing" but the discord is still a thing, it just doesn't have an official PMAS channel.
And no-one talks about PMAS or any related topic at all there, right? In order to avoid grievances from people who have been kicked out and/or who are too lazy to join a discord?

(Also, y'all did say it was closed, back then. Not being about PMAS anymore is almost good enough, technically, I guess, but... I miss the community there)

The problem with this scenario is that it kinda assumes that Homura has gone postal. Whether she's physically capable of taking on Tokyo via certain means is irrelevant if she has no inclination to do so.

Same with us really: We could bring the kind of power needed to end the fight in an instant, but we won't.

Whether we can take on all of Tokyo is very much reliant on whether we're willing to go to the extremes that we would need to do so, and I think we have a tendency to overestimate ourselves outside those measures.

Sabrina is not a vegetable. She has an entirely different variety of brain damage.
Hey, you said the bit about brain damage, not me. :V

On the other hand given that what we know of Madokami, and that we've infiltrated reality and seek to bring it in accordance with her designs, we are almost certainly a plant. :p

What else is there? Are there any other emotions that could serve as a fundamental magical force?

Wraith! Not!Madoka did refer to human emotions as an "anomaly", I believe. What that implies about humanity's place, or the place of sapient life in general, in the universe...

Anyway, if all emotions are universal aberrations, then it follows that magic could derive from any emotion, right?

Attention all potentials! The universe is in danger from entropy, and it needs YOUR interiority in order to save it! Taking applications now! All evolutionarily advantageous negative reinforcement learning mechanisms are accepted!

@arK -
Fresh! Meat!
Welcome.

That's what they WANT outsiders to think. In a situation without "clear injury" to Tokyo, are the real specs for Tokyo different from any other forum?
I would wonder if Toshimichi can immediately get twenty girls on an arbitrary basis. Morale is not so great over there.

Hey, I've never opposed that particular notion. It's just, well, not come up when we've had the time.

I've also been wanting to do that for a long time, but I was specifically leaving that citation out. It's a solid idea and we really do need to do it, just...
The win is only going to count when we beat it on max difficulty?

Normal magic use, Hope is traded for Grief - the byproduct is "magical energy." Seems like it isn't emotion anymore, just as hydroelectric power isn't water anymore. But that is a step before 'Magic' appears. In another related process, we can (and perhaps everyone inescapably does) encode the energy with the emotions within us. Magic doesn't do anything without a soul to define it, and this is where the mind of the magi matters. We spam emotions. They are a quantity that humans generate beyond entropy, we never run out.

Wondering how to get a safe level of help from Madoka and Hitomi; what if they tried to organize a game? A "take over the world" esper fantasy, done up in a forum with students at Mitakihara. We just happen to define the geography and rules as a simulation of our real politics... and occasionally input "NPC" actions that define our interactions...

Something to note for readers that came up in conversation with @Firnagzen, Dedolere is pronounced in the proper Latin fashion -- roughly "day-dah-lay-reh" when read in a broad American accent
