Sudden chapter title thought: Wait a moment, if this is Nova Prospekt... We're the ones
running the prison. Are we sure
we're Gordon Freeman in this scenario?
*Suddenly Hijiri busts into Fukushima with a gaggle of witches*
What about targets? What kind of stuff do want to shop for? How far afield are we willing to go?
As far as targets go, I would prefer to range further afield, rather than closer. For one thing, the Yakuza gang we already hit may not have fully recovered and restocked yet, and any hypothetical Yakuza-guca will might be thrown for a loop by a further ranging attack.
Alright, got this as a proto-vote.
[x] Head out to school
--[x] Have fun with your friends.
[x] Don't prompt Sayaka about her decision. Don't mention it unless she brings it up.
--[x] If she does, talk to her privately and cut to voting
[x] Go shopping with Homura
--[x] Ask Homura about the events of the last loop in greater detail. You don't remember anything about any loop that ended the way that one did, and you're hoping that it might shed some light on the discrepancies you've seen so far.
---[x] Be gentle. If Homura seems to be taking it badly, ease up. If she's getting emotional, ask if you can hug her.
[x] If everyone gets to school without issue:
--[x] Telepathy with Yuki. Try to schedule a meeting with Airi.
--[x] Once you're sure Kyoko's woken up, contact her by telepathy and arrange to meet for lunch, or sometime else if lunch is taken.
--[x] Check in on the Shiogama refugees.
--[x] If all the above is completed without issue, go to Wharehouse-kun for highest priority SCIENCE!!!
Definitely agree that we shouldn't bring up Sayaka learning the Witchbomb.
On the subject of the witchbomb and Homura, I find myself pondering the odds that the Shiogama girls know it, and Tanaka Misato turned into a witch, and, more relevantly, whether we should talk to Homura about it.
A few points in favor: First,
the pair's reaction to our privacy sphere notably had them "very worried" about the sudden witchyness.
Secondly,
there's their thoughts about witches: They don't like fighting them, but they don't
fear witches. They also know that not hunting witches will get them killed.
The latter can be gotten because they were taught or someone the right questions or Kyuubey deigned to tell them, sure, but it would also be immediately obvious if one of them witched out. But there's also the
specific phrasing of it all.
"We don't," Noriko concedes. "But we're not afraid of them. We wouldn't have survived very long... after, if we didn't hunt."
It's worded to imply that the "after" is the
reason they were in danger. I can't think of a reason for that more likely than due to grief buildup from losing their friend. Sure, taken alone it could be a coincidence or the phrasing pointing to something else. But, well it's
not alone. (and honestly, I wasn't expecting something this strong when reviewing everything)
Thirdly, on the subject of reactions, there's also their reactions to the clear seed to consider, which are
Interesting. I encourage everyone to go read for their own conclusions but the points that strike me most are these:
Free, of course, though, uh... I'll need a regular Grief Seed to convert."
"I-" Akemi's eyes go wide. "Yes, please-"
"Akemi!" Noriko says.
You grin faintly. "Hey, if it makes you feel better about testing what are technically prototypes, I've got the oldest Clear Seeds in existence. If there's any problems, I'll notice it first."
"No, really, we can deal with that," Noriko says. "Right, Akemi?"
"Right!" Akemi says, smirking. Just a little. "Good luck and all."
You beam at them as the last dregs of Grief slow to a trickle. "Alright! And here you are."
You present them with the Clear Seed. Akemi's the first to try it, snatching the Seed from your hand and tapping it to her Soul Gem. She watches with awed eyes as the Grief drains away, and immediately offers it to Noriko.
"Thank you," Akemi whispers to you. "Thank you, Miss Sabrina."
Their enthusiasm at the conversation is interesting,
especially as Noriko cuts Akemi off at the start.
By their reactions, I would not be surprised at all if that seed
was Misato.
Even moreso however...
"Can- can we have a moment?" Noriko asks, already half-rising from the chair. "This is- this is a lot to take in."
"Of course," Mami says, squeezing your hand.
"Take all the time you need," you add, smiling. The words are barely out of your mouth when they stand, and hurry off to the living room.
"Miss Watanabe, Miss Saito?" Mami calls softly as you emerge from the kitchen. You find the two Shiogama girls on the sofa, huddled together and looking up from what must have been an intense conversation.
"Ah, yes?" Noriko says, brushing back her hair.
The two of them got a clear seed, and
immediately engaged is a private conversation, taking pains to not be overheard. Like what we might do about bomb material if we lacked a privacy field.
Lastly, if Akemi's luck holders truer than she thinks, it wouldn't be out of place for her friend to be lost to a witchout, then end up with someone working on dewitching and theoretically capable of achieving it.
So, what to do about that? Even with evidence that strong, precautions we can take are precautions we should take. Which leads me to noting that Homura was there in the room when she and Mami had to make their explanation. If we talk to her in privacy, I'd like to move to ask her about the specifics of their reaction and whether she thinks it could have indicated them knowing the witchbomb.
Something like: []Ask Homura whether the Shiogama girls' reaction to our witchiness on Tuesday would indicate if they knew the witchbomb.
As far as raising the idea to them
directly, it occurs to me that we could lead in via telling them about the possibility of seeds "waking up" after a while. On face value it's a fair warning, but there is a deeper meaning for those who know the truth.
---------------------
Other stuff that comes to mind that could be done today:
Ask the Ishinomaki/Sendai/University groups about whether there's anyone else they'd like us to extend our offer of cleansing to. (IE: the Tome group who the University group are friends with)
Talk to Fukushima about visiting/updating Airi on our progress over the weekend. (Paranoia aside, we never told Fukushima what we were really up to RE: clear seeds and paranoia included Airi might be pacified from any action on her or Hijiri's part, be it now or later, by the knowledge that our deal with her is being taken seriously.)
