Sometimes I need to make up facts. Hopefully very non canon facts. Hopefully reality is kinder.
"Ah, Miss Mag Aoidh," started Mami, a polite smile etched on her lips. "So... you hold Edinburgh all by yourself, right?"
"Yes?"
The snappy tone almost made Mami take a step back. Metaphorically.
"It must've been quite trying, getting hold of so much territory, that's admirable!"
A baleful side glance. "I Wished. I kicked everyone out. Took one tuesday."
"Oh... that's impressive," Mami's smile froze in place. "Truly. I had to train a lot to get this far, myself, had to drop school activities..."
Riona snorted. "Good, you waste less time that way."
"Um, right..." Mami blinked, desperately searching for a different vector with which to start conversation. "So you've had no students, then? I've had a few... it can be quite..." she couldn't help a cringe, "rewarding..."
"Until they abandon you for whatever stupid reason?"
"If, you wanted to put it that way..."
"... How many?" the foreigner finally looked straight at Mami.
Her honey gold eyes drooped, dim. "Seven. Nine- no, eight if you count... No," she shook her head, ringlets flopping, "just seven."
Riona's green eyes shone as she examines Mami, as if searching for something.
"Two," she muttered in the end.
Mami opened her mouth.
"Dead," finished Riona.
Mami's mouth snapeds shut.
"I didn't take Edinbugh in one day, that's dumb," the young woman spit, before taking a swing of her flask, "but dumber was thinking I could take on students."
"Make friends," added Mami.
"Yeah... Do you..." Riona's tone turned wistful, her gaze lost somewhere far away,"see them, some times?"
"I didn't use to," Mami smiled a sad little smile, "but I have hopes... and I managed to reconnect with one of my kouhais lately, it's great!"
For once, the irish Magical Girl looked dumfounded, scrutinizing the shy, hopeful expression in Mami's face, as if studying something uncomprehensible.
"Kouhais don't come back," she snapped.
To her consternation, Mami nodded, ringlets bouncing up and down.
"Impossible, that's what I though. But..."
"Oh," breathed Riona. "Impossible. Let me guess. Sabrina?"
"Yes," Mami's smile became brighter, "Sabrina."
A long moment of silence passed, filled by a swing of a flask.
"Do you know the phrase those who can't do, teach?" asked Riona, out of the blue. She went on before Mami could answer. "It's BS, but there's something, something..." she waved her hand, the flasks' contents swirling around, "maybe I'm too strong," she snapped again, fluminating Mami with her green eyes.
Golden eyes blinked in slight confusion. "You have strong powers, right? Kind of like..."
"Bah," Riona rolled her eyes. "What I'm saying... maybe it was my fault."
What. The word didn't make it past Mami's lips, before they turned into an 'O' in comprehension.
"What was it like, what did you... teach yours?" asked Riona, shoulders slumped.
Mami blinked a few times, before realizing she was being asked for tutelage, and stood straighter without thought, eager to share her experiences.
"Well, I start by showing them what Witch Hunting is like, before they make a Wish if at all possible. It's difficult, since I need to split my attention between fighting and protecting them, but it really helps..."
Many minutes later, a thoroughly confused Sabrina spied on a rather spirited conversation between her sort-of-girlfriend and the stranger who wouldn't give her the time of the day an hour prior.
For once, she resisted the urge to hug her Mami, stepped back, and let her continue her animated conversation with her... peer?
New friend, maybe?
Whatever the case, it brought a hopeful smile to her face.
