huh... I wonder if Homura could make something like those shield grenades from Halo?

also thought @Firnagzen do you think you could post a 'final tally' for when you tally the vote before you start writing? Since sometimes we have people debating votes and providing idea up to the new chapter gets posted. That and, for me at least, I sometimes loose track of whose voting for what and have no idea *what* vote won.

Perhaps this is a good time to check Kuroki's phone? And/or telepathy Nadia and ask her if she can put us in touch with Tsubaki Mikoto?

We always have so much stuff to do, but these two things have time limits. We should probably get to them sometime soon. I can't help but think we might keep delaying them forever, always having an excuse because we always have other stuff that needs doing too.

This is precious.

[] Test the shield thoroughly, yet carefully.
-[] As reward, Homura must pick you up.

I really Homu to pick up Chibi Brina and hold her, ever since back then.

"She's got those weird hangups about looking good," Masami says. "But we're getting her to the point where she can actually fight properly. She still kinda hates your guts, by the way."

"That's... good," you say. "That the training's going well. Thank you for agreeing to help with this, by the way."
BTW, everything's good here.

Ono's still got hangups but getting better. Her hating us? Irrelephant. :V

And, well, you all saw my massive thread-archaeological-dig to point out when the thread came up with all that well before Homura had thought of it.
Firn's Mind of Akemi Homura post places her thinking of it before we learned that we needed to know Madoka's wish.
Perhaps this is a good time to check Kuroki's phone?
We should also do a Wide Area Search with Mami before going to bed. Find all the meguca.

Time to throw vote fragments. (In need of better wording.)

[] Test whether enchanted Grief can be used for any Witch construct, or whether you need to know what you're enchanting it for, beforehand.
-[] Repair Kuroki's phone during testing. Check through it afterwards.

[] Help test Homura's shield.

[] Try and get Homura to pick up and hold Chibi you properly.

[] Call Nadia, ask her to put you in contact with Tsubaki Mikoto.
-[] Talk with Tsubaki about your powers and goals; offer help as usual; talk about how good it would be for meguca to be able to talk with an adult meguca like her.

"Homura, you're my friend," you say, and draw her into another hug. There's a little squirm of discomfort in your gut, of faint worry about Homura's simple dismissal.
For once, the squirm of discomfort was us, not Homu! :p

Hm. I kind of got the feeling Homu's got just a little used to the hugs. Which wouldn't be strange; I'm pretty sure we almost doubled our Homuhugs in the past few minutes.

... Must. Restrain. Urge. To. Vote. For. Homuhugs. Send. The. Chibi. First.

We need to call Hijiri.

Also hankering for psychometry, but that's more of a personal desire than a need.

Your own enchantment... your own control enchantment, which you imbue into Grief. Simple, raw Grief.

Grief takes the enchantment surprisingly well, the magic sinking in without fuss.

The enchanted Grief flows easily, without even requiring that you will it into shape, and you start forming it into a little chibi version of yourself.

It almost seems to snap into form, without your conscious will acting upon it. All you have to do is mould it approximately, and it simply focuses, gaining clarity and shape and colour. Before long, you have a tiny chibi version of yourself, palm-sized, but inanimate.

You purse your lips thoughtfully. Perfectly shaped, but inanimate and... incomplete, somehow. You can feel it with your magic, and it's missing something. Letting your eyes slide shut, you bring your will to bear, and breathe life into it.

Your eyes flutter open, just in time to see Mami reach down and pick you up, putting you on her lap. You giggle, and cuddle against her side, leaning your head against her shoulder.

"How long did that take?" you ask, blinking huge eyes up at Homura.

"No time at all," Mami says. "As far as I could tell?"

You can still feel the pulse of Witch, Witch, Witch against your senses, but it's not quite as noticeable with a fully willed Grief-chibi. You can also feel the matrix of enchantment tying your miniature form together.

Some interesting stuff from the interactions here. Once the grief was enchanted with "control", we were able to form it much more easily - it took on the shape and form we wanted more cleanly, and we applied the griefhax to animate it nigh-instantly.

There's a few things that we need to test about this:
• Does it change our range limit at all? If the "control" enchantment acts like an anchor for our will, it might.
• How noticible is the speed difference for forming non-witchy shapes out of grief?
• Does the speed boost to applying griefhax apply universally, or to only a subset of use cases? (Making a second body seems particularly synergistic with imposing "control", so other griefhax might not benefit as much or at all.)
• Do we need to "pre-load" the enchantment with the specific shape and ability we want the grief to later exhibit, Vancian casting style, or can we have a generic pool of "primed" grief to use for quicker effects at will?
• Does the enchantment stay active if we try turning the chibi into something else, or is it "used up" after the first time it snaps griefhax into place?

"Dang," Sayaka mutters. She scowls, looking thoughtfully at the ceiling. "Might be good to have something to bribe 'em with."

Homura reaches behind her shield, and silently withdraws a loaf of bread, and then a packet of... what looks like nuts. Almonds. She offers them to Sayaka, who blinks in surprise.
Homu's kleptomaniac tendencies to the rescue! :V

And she's helping Sayaka, too. What a strange loop.

"Doing well," you say. "Uh, just to let you know, we've formed a mutual defense pact with Fukushima. It doesn't involve you guys directly, but since we're neighbouring, I thought I should let you know?"

"Hmm... I see," Hiroko says. There's a long pause on the other hand, and you get the impression of a hurried conversation. "Thank you for letting us know, Sabrina."

"Oh shit fuck she's dealing with mercenaries-"

"-Is she threatening us-?"

"-No wait she's too nice for that-"

"-She'd probably tell us if she was-"

"-What the fuck is going on-?"

"-I don't know what the fuck is going on-"

"-Is she preparing for a fucking war-?"

"-God I hope this is about Walpurgisnacht-"

"Do you listen to yourself, woman?!"

"Excuse me-"

"WHAT?!"

"... I'll assume this is Sabrina's fault."

"This is not Sabrina's fault."

"I'll take my leave."

*Leaves*

"... This is entirely Sabrina's fault."

"Thank you for letting us know, Sabrina."

[] Try and get Homura to pick up and hold Chibi you properly.
[] Then have chibi Brina call Homura "mom" :p

Random thought corner:

You know, sometimes it's said Oriko+Kirika is the healthiest relationship Sabrina has known[1]. I find Hiroko and Masami's healthier, even if it isn't a romentic relationship, as Kirika's (easily forgets Oriko can be wrong, quickly going along with everything Oriko says like arson and injury because Oriko said so, etc.)

[1] well, I haven't checked all 5000+ pages but since it has come out of Sabrina's thoughts I presume it's been discussed at some point

[2] as I understand we don't have a confirmation one way or the other, but isn't that relevant to the point

Sabrina then later sends them a copy of the sparring video, because it is a pretty awesome fight.
"-She's definitely threatening us-"

One thing that occurs to me is that we may need to have a known form to funnel the magic into first, before we can forge enchanted grief into shape in this way. Like how the pain ring was the One Ring, the enchantment glove was the infinity gauntlet, the magic sense booster was an ioun stone, and so on. So we'd be able to do all of those things but not, say, the psychometer since we haven't actually made it yet.

Although...

Hunh, I wonder if Enchanted grief might boost our control enough to get around some of the limits with things like the soul-gem scanner.

Anyways, I'm inclined to disbelieve the Vancian casting scenario: The decision would come during the the enchantment stage itself, and everything we know about enchantment says that we would have needed to work out the construction of the enchantment with some trial and error beforehand if it were the case.

Homura gives you a long, considering look.

"Excuse me," she murmurs, and picks you up by the back of your shirt before gently placing you on a rock before tapping her finger on said rock. A lilac shield blooms around you, perfectly spherical.

"Excuse me," you say indignantly, banging a fist against the side of the shield.

"Important testing," Homura says placidly, and places you -shield and all- on the floor.

This is literally the most adorable thing ever and these adorable shenanigans must continue.

But yes- chapter is the goodness.

Actually, though, question- @Firnagzen , this:
-[X] Explain your discomfort when dropping heavy topics. Ask if there's anything you can do to make it less stressful?
Was in all of the potentially winning votes, whatever the exact tally looked like in the end, but it looks like it kinda got dropped? The questioning part in particular, with the "if I have any heavy topics to bring up in the future, would you rather me bring them up on a bad day, a good day, a meh day, preface the real-talk in any particular way, anything like that?" stuff. And, given, that line has been drawn pretty far away from its original conversational context, so the exact body of the vote isn't particularly informative in that regard... Or was it dropped on purpose because of not really a good place to put it, as the conversation flowed and whatnot?

Just wanting to check about that.

Firn's Mind of Akemi Homura post places her thinking of it before we learned that we needed to know Madoka's wish.

I should say rather that persons in the thread came up with the Sabrina-was-created-by-Madoka-in-some-capacity idea before Firn mentioned it to the thread in realtime, whether or not retroactive event placement says that Homura was thinking it before we had that information and supposition. That is- it was never an idea that Homura communicated to us before the thread had come up with it. Even with the closer-in timing of the thread's determination, shortly circa the capture of Oriko, that it was Madoka's wish, specifically, last loop, that created Sabrina, that doesn't actually detract at all from my point that Homura wasn't considering the specific angle of her or Madoka being Sabrina's mom. My point of contention has never particularly been about when hints started flying around about Sabrina's origins- it's only ever been the specific point that the application of the idea of "moms" and "Homura and Madoka" together originated in the thread, not from anything Homura has ever implied.

... because clearly the "moms" part is the important part of that whole discussion. Obviously.

Did... is Homura trolling us? With the hamster ball?

She must be, it's the same thing as her name swap.

We cannot let this stand. We need to show her that her strong-arm tactics won't work and that the Pocket Brina will not be denied.

[] Keep making Pocket Brinas until Homura gives up on keeping them contained.
-[] If this leaves Mami's apartment ankle-deep in hamster-balled Pocket Brinas, so be it.
-[] Blame Homura for the Plague of Sabrinas. She forced your hand.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh science votiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing.

[] Help Homura test her enchantment.
-[] Try and get her to pick up and hold you properly.

[] Test enchanted Grief.
-[] Use the same enchanted Grief to make different things.
-[] Do you need to decide what you want to build before enchanting Grief, or not?
-[] During testing...
--[] Repair Kuroki's phone. Check it afterwards.
--[] Make a full-sized Brina clone.
---[] Give Mami double hugs.
---[]Let Mami examine clone for her own research?
-[] Chibi Brina: Try...
--[] Moving in four dimensions.
--[] Leaving your range.

[] Call Nadia, ask her to put you in contact with Tsubaki Mikoto. Include Mami, Homura?
-[] Possible conversation direction:
--[] Introductions and small talk.
--[] Grief cleansing offer, no strings attached.
--[] Talk about plans.
--[] Ask if she'd be interested in helping.
