How much of her immediate family funds does Oriko actually control? I don't know enough of inheritance law, let alone Japanese inheritance law, to know where it would have gone, but one would think that, as a middle schooler, it would be pretty limited.

A world without weapons, where we own all the guns.
That means we make the rules.
Governments have been founded on this principle.
Some of them lasted for months!

Plus it's less suspicious. I'd want to discuss her financial situation with Oriko first - how much does of her father's estate's debts have passed on to her? Is she emancipated?

I think we can ask whether this is something Sayaka would accept without checking with Oriko first. If it turns out to be difficult for one reason or another, then we'll reevaluate.

You wouldn't think that middle schoolers would be living alone with no adult supervision, either, but it seems to happen all the time in anime. :V

--[X] Powers: Dr. Dolittle + Hypnosys + Mind-editting?
Two things:
  1. You misspelled "Doolittle," "hypnosis" and "editing."
  2. Uh... why exactly would Sayaka need to edit the minds of the animals? That seems a bit excessive. It's less Friend To All Living Things and more Brainwashing.
Still think it's a bit silly and impractical. We already know the ribbon thing works from prior experience.

Hmm.

I did look up 'Doolittle' and 'Hypnosys' before posting, and 'Dolittle' is right. I should have checked btter, though, 'Hypnosys' seems to be some musical band, I only checked that there were results. :p

Well, animals as they are might not be capable of doing surveillance and raising alarms, but some mind magic could make it work and, well, animals are basically the only acceptable target for all but the softest touch of mind magic in general. I'm thinking of enhancement and adjusting their priorities, mostly.

I don't see why it couldn't work; it could take some work, but I could imagine Sayaka having a bunch of 'familiars' watching over Mitakihara and letting her know when something bad happens. 'Familiars' in the non-pmmm way.

I would watch Akemis Mind.

*Switch*

"This is Akemi speaking! We have hostiles inbound, proceed with cau- They are already here! Control, control, nuke my position from the orbit, it's the only way!"

*Switch*

"And today, boys and girls, I will show you how to cook. Cook bombs!~"

*Switch*

"She walked into my office, innocence and pink commingling in her eyes, dancing a little dance of light and shadows. That same moment, I understood: she is trouble. Nothing I could do, though. Whatever else I might be, Homura Akemi is a sucker for a damsel in distress."

*Switch*

"How many Kyubeis do you need to change the light bulb? Eleven. Ten to drive one of them insane with constant prodding and another one to make a Wish. Lazy effers can't do anything without magic."

*Switch*

Still think it's a bit silly and impractical. We already know the ribbon thing works from prior experience.

I mean, silly and impractical or not, we might as well propose the option. Maybe we'll be surprised and it'll speak to Sayaka or Homura, in their hearts, or something. If we have the space, we might as well lay out every idea we have that won't mortally offend anyone.

Ah, actually, there is a thought. A thought that made me go back and check for hidden text (though I couldn't find any?). For this particular vote, we're specifically given that "Yes, there's no word limit or suggestions here by intention." Is there anything we're missing about something particularly sensitive we could step on that's left in this conversation, beyond blatantly becoming belligerent and advocating for O&K's total release or something, or are we just being given the space to lay out literally all of our information and ideas? Anything that we might should be covering that we're forgetting? (... when we actually eventually finish up this conversation, we still have a non-zero number of telepathy calls to make to various people... not relevant now, but, meh, so much to remember...) @Firnagzen 's word on how Homura and Sayaka regard the situation implies we're not about three steps ana- or kata-ward from self-destructing anything, but like. I dunno, thoughts? Anyone who's been around here longer than me, confirmation that this isn't a prompt to start up the paranoia generators?

Unrelatedly:

"THIS IS NOT A DEMOCRACY!" I have a gun, so I'm in charge! Many governments around the world function around this principle! And some of them last for months!" - Homura Akemi In the middle of a bad Loop (Spiders may or may not be involved)

... could I have the option to sig this, Dragontrapper? Because I appreciate it in my heart.

I'd like to remind everyone that Sabrina exists in PMMM not earth. Meguca and their wishes can and will have significant effects on politics. Syria might have a benevolent dictator. North Korea might have a puppet ruler controlled by a secret cabal of magical girls.

We have an at least 100m^4 radius of extra-dimensional storage space. At this point, we can't just steal from the base, we can steal the base.

We are the Azure San Francisco. She is us.
Problem is, as far as I am concerned, we can only steal something in at best 99m-radius spherical chomps - if we manage to make a hold of it all at once and then shift it ketawards. Even so, we need to take care not to push the next chomp as far ketawards as we did the first chomp... And that's a problem because, A, things exist that are larger than that, and B, how well do you think we'll be able to reassemble whatever we took, huh?

Nah, depending on exact dimensions we can absolutely go bigger. Even if we need to completely cover what we store we can either be inside the object or offset it slightly from our soul gem. Taking in a 180 meter radio mast via holding ourselves aloft at it's midpoint for instance.

People. I think it's time that we put the most pressing question in the thread to rest. Please vote.

What should Sabrina's meduka meguca name be? - Poll on strawpoll.com
OK, I can't stay silent on this.

You have truly and thoroughly screwed the pooch on this one, Red.

If you were a true SCIENCE! person, you would have properly analyzed all the data points and have noticed their similarities, the essence they share.

Look at this:

mumi
hameru
meduka
seyiku
kyusiko
kyaku

Do you still not see the patterns? Are they too arcane for your feeble mind?

Look again:

mumi
hameru
meduka
seyiku
kyusiko
kyaku

Now you're seeing it. All these words have 'u' in them; in the case of 'hameru', the 'u' is not in the same place as where it's in 'Homura'. Same for 'kyusiko' and 'Kyosuke'.

Now look further:

mumi
hameru
meduka
seyiku
kyusiko
kyaku

Mami
Homura
Madoka
Sayaka
Kyosuke
Kyoko

All these alternate versions of the megucas' names have the same consonants and the same amount of characters as the original.

So basically, a meduka version of a name is the same as the original but with only the vowels changed, and always including an 'u', and that 'u' should not be in the original position, had the original version of the name already contained an 'u'.

Furthermore, there seems to be an version in meduka names to use the same vowel twice.

With this information we can observe all possible variations of Sabrina's name that could be the meduka version of Sabrina's name:

subrane
subrani
subrano
subrena
subreni
subreno
subrina
subrine
subrino
subrona
subrone
subroni
sabrune
sabruni
sabruno
sebruna
sebruni
sebruno
sibruna
sibrune
sibruno
sobruna
sobrune
sobruni
sabrenu
sabrinu
sabronu
sebranu
sebrinu
sebronu
sibranu
sibrenu
sibronu
sobranu
sobrenu
sobrinu

And there you have it, folks. Because we're dealing with an originally japanese media, we could play with taking out the 'r', but one of these is the TRUE meduka Sabrina name.

how well do you think we'll be able to reassemble whatever we took, huh?

... actually, as long as we aligned the parts of whatever we took mostly correctly, and maybe had Mami on hand to help with more precision realignment, we have fine enough control of our grief to just sort of... I dunno, molecularly manipulate things back into a fixed state. Not magic at them, because that would fade when we leave the area, but like with the laser, just... Grief as our powertool to use in conjunction with real physics. And then we just fix things as we move along the seam of whatever we broke, working through Mami's ribbons to keep a modified ribbon-grief-proprioception and general adjustment of the object clean outside of our true radius. That's if Sayaka doesn't have a power we could leverage to fix things, too.

Actually, clarification. How exactly does our 4th dimension of space manipulation intersect with the material 3-space plane again? Like- we shift a thing a few steps ana- or kata-wards out of sync with where it normally intersects with our standard slice of 3-space, and we can move it somewhere in 3-space along that different fourth-dimensional slice (if we make sure it doesn't hit anything else in the 3-space of that 4th-d slice) as long as it's within out radius? And if we wanted to say push item A 2 units ana-wards, starting from a point (0, x, y, z) in 4-space, but another item B already existed 1 unit ana-wards at point (1, x, y, z) in 4 space, then they'd collide as item A tried to move through the 3-space slice at w = 1, unless we moved both items so their (x, y, z) coordinates weren't overlapping? And if we make two objects collide at the same (x, y, z) coordinates by rolling/tossing them from different w-directions, would they follow standard laws of motion and rebound in opposite directions, and leave neither of them at the point of collision on the w-axis? But also, if they had the appropriate structural integrity (though I'm not sure how to test that?) they wouldn't necessary damage eachother or anything?

Just trying to make sure I have all that, it's always weird to wrap my head around explicitly- but if I'm understanding this right, we're... essentially we're running into potential stack storage space and organization issues? We need to be able to have enough maneuvering space in any given 3-space to pull out anything contiguous we need from a different 3-space at a further-away 4th-d level without it colliding with anything else we're dragging along in a nearer 4th-d level. So, I guess we'd need to establish a storage protocol, even a basic one, to prevent any issues with retrieving stuff. I think... probably all we'd need, is to make sure that either we leave sufficient space ana-wards and kata-wards (separately, so we don't need to bring anything across the 3-space slice we live in if we don't want to do so) for the largest of our items on that side to be able to move and let the smaller items 'flow' around them in 4-space without any of them getting caught, or, when it's unavoidable, er, basically treat the whole exercise like trying to pack a storage unit or storage crate to the brim and still be able to access what you're most likely to need. So either big items go into long term storage at the back (farthest ana- or kata-wards from us) with the knowledge that to access them, we'll need to dislodge everything closer, potentially at speed, or big items go temporarily as close to us as safely possible so we can easily transport them around our own 3-space without having to upset our more permanent storage.

... mwargh, this is Homestuck sylladices all over again, yeah? But yeah, I guess one way or another, we'd want to clock how fast it takes to retrieve things from further ana- or keta-wards and account for that in our organization. And/or I guess arrange the whole system something like a multi-story parking garage when we have the space- but this whole tangent was mostly how we'd have to deal with the problems that come from not having the space, and working with items that would nearly or completely saturate our 100m radius in a given 3-space slice and block off other slices.

... and it's this sort of dense storage that would actually possibly run the risk of colliding with other megucas' stuff, if we all use the same 4th dimension for our storage. Hm. Wonder if the Incubators actually manually included memory collision error detection software for high-dimensional stuff, to avoid some of these issues. Maybe we could appropriate that, if they did? Or maybe it'd block us off as having insufficient administrative privileges for memory access, pfft.

'Course, Firn could also decide to handwave the question of our organization in most cases, just for expedience. And, since I'm relatively sure we don't actually plan to go stealing entire buildings, or enough small things to fill up 1003m of space, it probably won't actually be an issue?

Actually, wait wait wait. Thought. If this 4-space works like it reasonably should with conventional physics (if I'm interpreting those right...) and in fact if our grief control works as could be expected by said phsyics- then we should be able move (in both 3- and 4-space) things that are larger than our radius, if we're careful, and if we're selective about what those things are. When we pick up a 3-d object, we don't need to be grabbing the whole thing. There are entire chunks of engineering about calculating the structural integrity and shit of materials, so we know exactly how much of it needs to be secured in what manner. Like, as with the toy example of only holding one end of a pole and still being able to wave it around, as long as it's not narrow and long enough that it'll collapse under its own weight if we're not holding the other end steady. So, if a part of a large object is within our radius, then theoretically we can still be supporting and moving it, as long as the part that's in our radius' grasp, the edge where our control ends, and the general structure of the object have the integrity to hold together. Even if we're moving an object along a 4th axis in 4-space, grabbing a sufficiently stable object in the correct place should just drag the parts we're not actually able to have grief in contact with along with the ride in the correct direction. Though of course, I'm not sure about which things qualify as sufficiently stable, or even if any of them would be useful to us.

And, 'course, I could be missing something entirely about how our 4-space movement and its properties work.

I think we need to check if we can just fold things up without breaking them. That would make storage much easier.

That would be wonderful for storing large objects. We'd still have a standard packing problem by volume, and probably some shape constraints, but it would be much better for flexibility and not blocking off entire sections of our available space.

Edit: You know I've been here too long when I start feeling avarice for a hypothetical way to solve a problem about 4-space we haven't even run into yet.
