I don't think Sabrina is using any active grief right now? We shouldn't register as a witch. And even if we did, Sabrina's magic/grief senses are stated outright better then the average puella magi. We should've been able to sense her before she sensed us.

I think we kept the transparent grief windscreen, which is witchy. Still a valid point that sensing us at that range probably isn't trivial. Evidence that the girl has a sensory power of some kind too.

It is at this point where I am forced to wonder if the reason Oriko never saw Niko copy other's powers is because, previously, we either went in alone, or we never performed some trigger that would be required for her to make that connection. (after all, Niko copies the Pleiades Saints, and now we are honorary Pleiades.)

Okay. For reference, here's my best guess at the current team locations, based on a careful reread:

It looks like Sayaka and Saki (Haste/Slow powers, independant flight) are the most likely to be able to assist. Kazumi and Kaoru (the soccer one) might be able to show up, depending on where exactly in the CBD they went after dropping off Oriko and Kirika. Whether Mirai and Niko can divert depends on where exactly Hijiri's home is and if we want to interrupt them checking on her (I say we don't.)

Oriko, Kirika, Satomi, and Umika are out of position entirely and can't fast travel.

Use our Grief Fog to keep track of her position
Our senses extend double as far as that.

If Mami's up for it, have her start making Ribbon Clones
She can just watch through her ribbons. Takes less effort.

I pinged Firn asking, so... wait on that? :p

She probably saw us, anyway. We are searching from not that far high, after all, even with camouflage.

Maybe we disturbed the smoke coming from the smokestacks, too?

[ ] Drop anything witchy. The Fog, too.

[ ] Call the Pleiades.
-[ ] Describe your attacker's capabilities so far.
-[ ] In case this is not the thief, the search must continue. Get some support.

[ ] Chase and corral.
-[ ] While taking cover. On foot if necessary. Ask Mami if she can track them with her ribbons.
-[ ] Get within sensing range, but keep your distance to avoid getting hit by the memory device.

[ ] Corral them towards somewhere without people, and without clear line of sight.

Nice piece of intel!

On the other hand, we need to decide whether we're going to gather everyone or not.
I mean, how many movies we've seen where the protags are hiding from a monster only to have something else distract the monster and lure it away? This time, we're the ones searching. This time, we're the metaphorical monster in the scenario.

This attack might have been a distraction, intentional or otherwise. Or even accidental with two unrelated parties - the mugger and the distraction.

Precisely. Currently, while we obviously should inform everyone, I think we should move in as soon as Sayaka and possibly Kazumi's groups link up. Six versus one is still a ludicrous amount of overkill, but it leaves the others in position in case this was a diversion.

> What we SHOULD do

[] Separate from Mami
[] Dissolve fortress, swap to off-center (center not on us) grief fog, run on fog
[] Advance separately while calling for backup
[] If you detect a soul gem yank it.

I'm less concerned about this being a random unrelated hostile and more concerned that this smells like trap. Abandoning stealth the instant you see someone to take a single shot at them before turning around and running like hell is... weird.

Second down the list is "memory-illusion decoy". Which is, again, trap.

Do we have any reason to do anything other than snapping over at maximum MOF acceleration and gemsnatching? We accelerate fast enough that it should seem like teleportation at this range.

I said:

This guca sensed us from farther than 200m out. Probably by sight, but the Fog is detectable, and has less range than our Grief sense.

We should drop it. It's a liability.

We don't know what we're up against.

It could be multiple traps.

We should try to get within sensing range and follow until we get reinforcements.

6v1 is probably overkill, since the search needs to continue on. 4v1 is probably the sweet spot.

Of course, it's more like 4vX; we don't know if this guca is alone.

  1. If she's leading us into a trap, we'd be rushing headlong into it.
  2. If she hits us with that antimagic beam while we're moving at high speeds, we might lose our flight and end up on a high-velocity ballistic trajectory into a building.
  3. Her range substantially outstrips our own, so the odds of her being able to hit us before we can gemsnatch her are not negligible.

So, perfect time for non-magical laser beams, am I right?

She's leaping over roof tops, so we should have line-of-sight. Once the laser leaves the grief zone, it's mundane, so antimagic won't do nothin'.

Just charge the lazor, wait for her to jump up into the air, then clip off a leg or two. Then, she's much easier to catch, unless she's unusually good at hopping.

It's a perfect plan, as long as she doesn't keep her soul gem in her socks.

Remember how much safety preparation is needed before we can unleash lasers? There also maybe people around.

[ ] Notify everyone
-[ ] Hostile contact in industrial district. Red-colored Anti-magic beams. Long range. If anyone knows a girl with those powers, now's a good time to speak up
-[ ] We want all teams to remain in search pattern EXCEPT for Sayaka and Saki, who we request back-up from. Tell them to keep their eyes open too - this may not be the only hostile in the area.

[ ] Tell Mami to build her wings and head to ground - we need to split up
-[ ] Dissolve the MOF and have the Obrez on standby nearby, in case we get hit by AM.
-[ ] Wide laser beam set to "Temporarily Blind". Pulse it in the direction the shot came from, to help suppress them
-[ ] Prepare more lethal lasers in case they aren't dissuaded by the stunbeams.

[ ] Harass the enemy, but do not engage unless forced
-[ ] Await reinforcements from Sayaka/Saki, then apprehend the threat
-[ ] Attempt to get positive ID on the hostile actor and ascertain if she's alone or not.

E: On laser safety: That's why I suggest we set phasers to stun. If we shoot anything strong enough to 'cut', we risk harming civilians, but there's nothing in the Neutral Good rulebook that says we can't blind the shit out of her and everyone nearby her, as long as it's temporary! I mean, Flashbangs already do just that, so we can just pulse the area a couple times and her aim will be shot to hell unless she's got REALLY good sunglasses.

Okay, long range anti-magic. This might be problem.

Ooh! Idea!

We can emit light, in all its forms, from grief, right? That means we can set up primitive radar, to drastically increase our sensing range!

Wait, that's not going to be useful in an urban environment. Crap.

Mami is still learning how to glide. It's not currently safe to use in a combat situation.

Mmm... to keep things simple:

[] Yell for the Pleiades.
-[] Describe the attack.
-[] Get one or two duos for reinforcement. Everyone else keep searching.

[] Dismiss everything that pings megucas' radars, including the Fog.

[] Chase and corral while taking cover.
-[] Get within sensing range and stay there while waiting for back up. Beware the Memory Device.
-[] Mami can track her with her ribbons and harass them? Upgrade one of her muskets.
-[] Corral them towards inhabited areas without clear line of sight for them to snipe at you.

[] Once you get reinforcements, coordinate and surround.

Basically: Get reinforcements while the search goes on; a description is given so the Pleiades might recognize this guca.

This guca senses us by whichever means from outside our considerable sensing range. If we have a witchy windshield, we should drop it. The Fog also pings megucas' radars, so it should go, too. As it is, it tells them our position.

We should get within our sensing range for ease of tracking; until then, we need to take cover. Fortituously, we've got Mami Tomoe with us; she can see with her ribbons well enough to track the meguca, hopefully.

We're in a working area right now, so we want to corral this/these guca/s out of here, hopefully somewhere without clear line of sight, so we don't get sniped.

I figure it's Mami who's doing the long range harassment, since we don't have experience on it. We could ask her for a musket, but we haven't ever tried using one, so we should stay mobile, and DODGE if necessary.

Hang on, can we sense what grief under our control is numb, then use that to figure out the beam's trajectory?
I expect Sabrina knows from which direction the beam came from, but they probably ran as soon as the shot.

Damn, you stole my idea. :p

I've been planning for a while to suggest, next time we got into a meguca fight, to unleash lasers at blinding intensity. It shouldn't do any damage that can't be easily healed, but it'll seriously reduce their ability to fight.
