Right, that's what I get for trying to think fifteen minutes after rolling out of bed in the morning.

[] Standing vote: Narrate situation as it develops
[] Keep an eye out for traps or enemy reinforcements

[] Notify everyone
-[] Ask for small reinforcement - Sayaka, Saki
-[] Describe assailant, ask for information
-[] Note possibility of decoy, trap, or enemy team

[] Pursue and evade
-[] Go low. MOF can navigate at street level just as well as the spheres could
-[] Spawn decoy MOFs, obfuscate position
-[] Deploy tracking - levitated mami chibis, non-hax grief sensors, ribbon sensor grid, etc

[] Get in front of her, harass, run her away from wherever she's trying to go
-[] Lasers to cause temporary flash-blindness, microwave and coherent-acoustic emitters to distract, etc
-[] Mami tangle bullets, deployed either by mami with a rifle or by a mami-chibi-scale crew-served weapon that you levitate to altitude

The major visible-light danger from a laser is not from the laser itself, it's from the laser reflecting off things - most objects have albedos in the .5 range, meaning that only half the energy is absorbed, the rest all being reflected. On specular surfaces the reflects are coherent, but hit the pavement with an X-lumen laser and you've effectively spawned an X/3-lumen lightbulb at the point of impact. Couple with an IR pulse in the eye-safe bands to make a tiny explosion and we can place a flash-bang anywhere in line of sight.

Damn, you stole my idea. :p

I've been planning for a while to suggest, next time we got into a meguca fight, to unleash lasers at blinding intensity. It shouldn't do any damage that can't be easily healed, but it'll seriously reduce their ability to fight.
Don't worry, the idea was already public property. :p

But there's people around. Lots. Our lasers aren't anime lasers, so we can't actually use them at long range in habitated areas.

-[] Deploy tracking - levitated mami chibis, non-hax grief sensors, ribbon sensor grid, etc
This would take too much time and concentration to set up. We need to chase now.

If Mami feels she can make such a grid, though I'd rather ask she use her ribbons to see, since she can do that, good. Our sensing capabilities that don't take too long to make come down to our sensing range, which is pretty good, a 200m radius sphere.

-[] Mami tangle bullets, deployed either by mami with a rifle or by a mami-chibi-scale crew-served weapon that you levitate to altitude
Leave shooting to Mami. She's the one who's actually good at it. :p

I figured that "blinding intensity" wouldn't do any damage that can't be easily and quickly healed with magic, even to normal humans.
We've got a search going on. We already told Mami and Sayaka that they probably will miss school; this could take many hours.

... What time is it, by the way? It was around four when we woke up, don't know about now. @Firnagzen

Hmm... think that it could work if Mami fired a ribbon at them, then we channel our powers through the ribbon to grab their gem?

I suspect she'd manage to fire her anti-magic beam to get rid of the ribbon quickly enough to keep us from pulling it off, but it might be worth a try.

So this guca sniped at us while we were inside the MoF.

[X] Yell for the Pleiades.
-[X] Describe the attack and any further developments.
-[X] Ask reinforcements from anyone nearby. Don't call off the search; this might not be our thief.

[X] Dismiss everything that pings megucas' radars, including the Fog.

[X] Corral them away from habitated areas. Somewhere with plenty of cover, if possible.
-[X] Get within sensing range. Beware the Memory Device.
-[X] Let Mami do the harassment while you do the driving. Evasive measures.

[X] Once you get reinforcements, coordinate and surround.
-[?] Go for a Gem snatch.

Would it be safest to try and snacht this girl's Gem? She could counter it with AM, but that would leave her open to attacks.

No... that would put Mami out of the fight while she's overwhelmed with our magic/feelings.

I forget how far is 100 meters

Is she close enough to soul gem snatch?
100 metres is around a block. We're further than 200m away from the AMlaserguca right now, since we can't sense out attackers.

EDIT: Ninja'd there.

Actually 100 meters is the equivalent of a football field with the endzones removed.

edit: Actually add about 9/10ths an endzone.

... We should make a Grief football stadium.
Possibly as part of the Hotel scheme. Teams of meguca, separate leagues for physical ability only and full power use allowed.

Sayaka absolutely needs to copy the rogue guca's power btw. Long-range non-lethal disabling laser is pretty damn useful.
She likely has enhanced magic detection range. Would that come with the power?

Oh yeah.

Can we assume any and all found enemy guca has the clear seed and therefore can spam their final moves?

I shiver at the thought of this guca going Gundum Seed main character's final robot.

We should assume that at least one of them does, yeah.

~330 feet, or slightly more than a football field, or roughly the height of a 30 story building, or about 1/5th the effective range of a decent assault rifle.
Actually, given the audience, maybe these points of comparison will be more useful?

100 meters is...
  • ...about 2/3 the length of a Corellian Corvette.
  • ...about three times the length of the Millenium Falcon.
  • ... about 1/3 the length of the TOS USS Enterprise.
  • ...about the length of a Los Angeles-class attack submarine.

If this is a trap - and it really feels like it, she shot once and then ran in a direction of her own choosing - I think that our best bet is to move her away from where he's trying to go.
-[X] Let Mami do the harassment while you do the driving. Evasive measures.
Assist Mami if she needs a better gun?
[X] Dismiss everything that pings megucas' radars, including the Fog.
I'm not so hot on this. In particular, I really don't think that we should put the fog down. Maybe pull it back down to unnoticeable levels. I think that you'll also want to clarify what exactly you mean by "pings radar"; even our spheres and the MOF do that. Do you mean that we should dismiss the clear windshield and other active grief items, but leave less griefy stuff in place?

The fog is subtle enough that it's hard for even experienced meguca to notice when they're in the room with us. I don't think they're going to sense it from hundreds of meters away. It's too useful to give up for a slight reduction in signature.

Well, 'corral' them means leading them where we want, right?

Assist Mami if she needs a better gun?

I think the fog is already as light as it goes? I fear that if it's good enough for us to use, it's good enough for them to sense.

I mean we should stick to solid Grief. Not like we can get rid of it, obviously.

Well, this guca saw us or sensed us from further than 200m out, while camouflaged.

They might have super sight to go with the AM sniping powers, but if not, the Fog likely gives away our position.
The fog is made of microscopic particles of solid grief. It's already extremely difficult to sense. If she pinged us on anything, it's probably the windshield or just by having badass skills and seeing us coming.
We're gonna try and get out of line of sight; if the meguca can sense the Fog, then we're screwing ourselves over by keeping it.

Our normal sensing range is a lot bigger than the Fog, anyway.

Our normal sensing range doesn't give us telekinesis.
We've told everyone to call for reinforcements before engaging; that includes us.

Also, going against Anti Magic probably makes most less direct ways of attack less useful.

I was thinking maybe we could use Grief gravity to help catch this attacker. But they'd antimagic that.

We could try and surround them with the Fog. They can probably anti magic that, or just plain get the hell out of dodge. Rather than approaching with the Grief Fog, we can use the Grief in the meguca's Soul Gem to attack/snatch.
