Wait another Gilgamesh? Whoops, sorry.

What's he like anyway?
Someone else will have to answer that, as I don't know.

All I know is this.
That is Gilgamesh Wulfenbach of the webcomic Girl Genius. He's a mad scientist/heir to an empire that usually means well but has flareups of arrogance and can be inconsiderate for other people's feelings. Then again, it's been awhile since I read the webcomic, so I might be mistaken.

I do think that the right model for Sabrina is a Solar Exalt. She had the hax, she has the towering goals, and given the way the thread plays her sometimes she absolutely has the Great Curse, either the mechanical or tragic variation.

I just realized the previous vote's word count limit was 200 words instead of 150.

I am in despair.

What is this madness.

  • [X] Reach out to Sayaka. Hugs as appropriate.
[X] We'll believe in her, until she can learn to believe in herself.
-[X] Sayaka Wished to help us knowing what it meant. That means a lot to us.
-[X] Ask if she wants some perspective on how most new Magical Girls actually are. Like Ono. Ugh.
-[X] Apologize for being a worrywart. But what you're all doing is dangerous, and they're our friends. We don't want to lose anyone.
[X] By the way, we're gonna need lots of help with the influx of Magical Girls we'll have soon.
-[X] Ask her to practise that Cloning power. Note social/combat advantadges if necessary.
[X] Transform stress into happiness through mumihugs.
    [X] Karaoke!
-[X] Have a duet with Mami.
[x] Sit next to Sayaka and comfort her.
[x] Whether she believes it or not, she's doing a great job. It's been less than a week and she's already one of the best melee fighters we know. The fight she gave us just now was one of the toughest one-on-one fights we've ever had. The only people we've faced who are better are ones who've been doing this for years. She's so good that we had to hire one of the best melee fighters in the region to have something new to teach her.
[x] She's our friend. She's someone we can trust and rely upon. We worry about her, yeah, not because she's not strong but because we care. We worry about everyone. We worry about Homura, no matter how powerful she is, we worry about Kyouko... Mami's the greatest, but we worry about her the most of all. We're scared, all the time. Scared of losing the people we love. No matter how strong they are. Magical girls, no matter how strong, are all so fragile, deep down. We can't bear to lose anyone. This is the only family we've ever known.
[x] If she seems to respond positively:
-[x] There's going to be a lot of new magical girls coming to town soon. We're going to be depending on her. Because we know that she's someone we can depend on, someone with a good heart. We think she's amazing.
[X] Sigh. Lean back and swear. Stop the plane.
-[X] Between the payments we're fronting, the training, the group hunts, the being ferried around on a grief platform... From her point of view, it must feel like nothing's changed, huh? She's still being taken care of, paid for, protected... And we don't see it, because all we see is "Sayaka is going to be incredible once things happen" and "who cares about 90k yen, there's more where that came from."
    -[X] cleanse pls
-[X] Some of this is going to be repetitive and stuff she probably already knows but it has to be said.
-[X] Homura and Mami have simple, overriding issues.
--[X] Homura wants WPN dead, which is hard because it could probably walk off a nuke. Training directly helps with that.
--[X] Mami needs -- not wants, needs -- stable friends. The extent of her trauma is very, very ugly, and she has been training people just for the companionship for a long time.
-[X] You, however, have a vast array of problems social and physical and a tendency to over-compartmentalize information, or just outright not think to pass things on, or...
--[X] That isn't as bad as it sounds. Really. But, for instance, you're rather hoping that exposing Kyouko to Sayaka will be good for Kyouko, who has a ton of issues you're not sure if you should talk about because privacy, and who you're really hoping to bring around in part because a reconciliation there would do wonders for Mami. Not that you can tell Kyouko that -- she'd never talk to you again.
---[X] If she tells Kyouko you said that, you'll bop her, you swear. And yes, you are using training partly as an excuse to insert blueberry.
[X] Reach out to Sayaka. Hugs as appropriate.
[X] Give her perspective on how most new Magical Girls would be doing in her stead. Like Ono. Ugh.
-[X] That's part of why we worry so much... but really? Sayaka is very strong already. And we still worry, just like we worry about Mami, and Homura, everyone. Because what we're doing is dangerous, and they're our friends. We don't want to lose anyone.
-[X] Sayaka Wished to help us knowing what it meant. That means a lot to us.
-[X] She'll have her time to shine. We can't handle everything, much as we wish otherwise.
[X] On that note, we're gonna need lots of help with the influx of Magical Girls we'll have soon.
-[X] Ask her to practise that Cloning power. Note social/combat advantadges if necessary.

    [X] Karaoke!
-[X] Have a duet with Mami.
    [x] Hug Sayaka.
    - [X] Apologize about how your no good at helping with this type of stuff... really you and social have issues with each other.
    - [X]I cannot make you believe you are useful Sayaka. I can assure you and assuage your doubts all day. I can list everything you can do, and could do and explain how much better your doing then most new girls - I could make graphs if you wanted to, in color. In the end though the choice of belief is with you. But let me tell you something, while it may be true that we can't tell with surety how useful, how great or how well you will act until that moment comes when the chips are down and everything balances on your actions. I don't think, I don't believe you will have an issue in that moment because you took on this mantle of Puella Magi knowing about its costs, its truths and when you offered up your soul for a wish you did not wish for money, or power - you wished to help your friends. That is why I believe you are and will be 'useful' Sayaka, because you are a good person, and a good friend and most puella magi would take a good friend in this line of work over all the combat support in the world.
    - [X] Now... Karaoke
    - [X] With Mami hugs
[X] Reach out to Sayaka. Hugs as appropriate.
[X] She'll have her time to shine. We can't handle everything, much as we wish otherwise speaking of which...
[X] We're gonna need lots of help preparing for and dealing with the influx of Magical Girls we'll have soon to name just one problem she could help with.
-[X] In jest: Alternatively, she can help us and Mami figure out how to fight witches with a railway gun.*
-[X] Help her bounce around ideas if she takes interest.
[X] Give her perspective on how most new Magical Girls would be doing in her stead. Like Ono. Ugh.

Temporary vote. Consider objectives + actions, not wording, plox. Still thinking. Explaining what we're trying with koko + saya training is a good first step though -- something she's already doing for us and we kinda just didnt tell her.

Okay.

I think we can kill a bunch of birds with one stone by just explaining that we're hoping Sayaka will be a good influence on Kyouko and why we're hoping for that.

A) It gives Sayaka a "mission" that she can tackle effectively in the short term, which we have singled her out as being the optimum choice for.
B) It may speed along the SayaKyou stuff that we're actively hoping will happen.
C) The counterargument is that doing this may compromise the eventuality of (B). This is a legitimate possibility, but at the worst? It becomes a question of whether Sayaka spills the beans somehow. We could leave out mention of Mami in doing this, which would effectively nip that possibility in the bud.
D) All this other stuff in the Onmur vote is literally [E] Reassure Sayaka. That's what that is. Go re-read the most recent update. Generically reassuring Sayaka is OK, but if you want to do more of that, there's no need for it, because we just did it.
E) We can get more mileage out of a "please practice Q" statement if we include enchanting. I'm still big on the idea that Sayaka should be a strong enchant guca on the theory that a copied power should affect her ability to enchant around that power. And... enchanting is just big. Yeah, we have Mami. I'm interested in how clones would interact with enchanting (+ production?) and... Well, Sayaka would take the witchbomb a lot better than Mami. She's never given a grief seed to Kyubey in her life.

[X] Frown. You were slow to decide on this, but...
-[X] Brief Sayaka on the broad strokes of the Kyouko issue. Scarce hunting, mental/emotional problems left unspecified because privacy, desire to reconcile Kyouko + Mami conflicting with unspecified Kyouko problems.
--[X] We stay in Kyouko's tolerance by not pushing things too much. But somebody has to push things, or she'll never change... and she needs to change. This is the second motive for the training with Kyouko. It would mean the world to Mami.
---[X] If called for: you have a problem with properly disseminating information, you're trying to stay on the right side of the "beneficent use of information vs manipulative" line, yes Sayaka is the right choice for this, best way to do it is probably to loudly be Sayaka.
-[X] Also, if she's looking for something to work while sore from training, you'd suggest clones and enchanting. Enchanting in particular is something of a "gateway tech" that you really, really need more access to.

I'm feeling... extremely ambivalent.

On one hand, telling (or not telling) Sayaka about Kyouko might go well or badly on its own merits.

On the other hand, I feel Sayaka's specifically talking about her combat worth.

Well, if that's what you think vote to do something that isn't pointless in that case?

I should clarify this.

If you want to try to talk about combat worth it's pointless because we just did. Sayaka is not immediately useful for combat, period.

We can convince her that she has noncombat value. That you are not speaks extremely poorly to me. I would draw parallels with Oriko here -- not everyone in this quest knows what they want.

Why would I know? If you guys want to make comparisons, that's on all of you. Just saying that if you want to do it, at least make it have a modicum of sense.

Sabrina wouldn't even feels the negative effects of grief in her soul gem if she was actually like him. Her ego would be so titanic that she'd keep her sanity as a Witch, or even keep herself from becoming one through pure will-power and egotism.:V
So you're saying that in order to defeat witching out and ascend into godhood we need to have a massive ego.

Lets get to work people!

I'd be half tempted to go for

[] Just hug Sayaka.
-[] Ask her to practice her cloning power; you'll need as many of her as possible once meguca start inmigrating.
[] Hug Mami.
-[] Have a duet with Mami.

If people want to vote for your vote over alternatives, that is what your vote should be.

Voting the same thing twice in a row never ends well for us; we should have that lesson from Oriko if nowhere else.

I don't quite see why we aren't explaining what we're angling for with the training, but I suppose I'll take what I can get. Do you actually have an argument against that?

Sorry, posting from my phone.
How about something simple like this?

Explaining the Kyouko plan I think is a good idea. I'm worried about it being a "was my wish useless" problem, so it'd have to be handled carefully - explicit order to brinapilot to address that? - but it has at least chance of working.

Absolutely tell Sayaka to practice cloning. It is by an order of magnitude her most useful power at exactly this moment.

Is it worth making it an outright order and responsibility rather than an ask? Give her a thing to do with it as a goal, hunting witches during school or something.

The distinction isn't relevant, really. She'll form her own opinions on whether what she's doing is worthwhile either way and go from there.

E: this is why I don't consider "go work on your clones" a reasonable "concrete, achievable goal." Because... from Sayaka's POV, it's concrete and achievable, yes... but it isn't a goal.

Kind of wondering if it'd be best to go take a detour to hunt down a Witch together or something. Sayaka still seems down and probably won't enjoy karaoke or whatever else is next at this rate.

As for the Kyouko plan, maybe? Her problems are somewhat complicated and personal. "Befriend and maker things better" feels somewhat vague and strange. Plus, it seems somewhat like a distraction or a "pity" task. Or maybe I'm just the one that's being weird.:V

It makes somewhat sense she feels like this, in a way. There hasn't been much going on lately or any huge problems lately. So the focus has been on helping and training her, which probably makes her feel self-conscious. And she's also brand new, which makes it worse.

If we're looking for concrete, reachable goals that Sayaka can start working on right now... PMAS is all about the people. Tell Sayaka to start helping us with people. Instead of just telling her about what we're doing with Kyouko, explicitly enlist her. Tell her that it's her job to get Kyouko's story, figure out why she and Mami have so much trouble, and get them back together. Let her know that this is not a simple task and that Kyouko is super prickly, but we got her in the right place and we trust her to finish the job. This is specifically something that we have trouble with because we don't have much time with Kyouko, while Sayaka's becoming meguca made her a perfect candidate for learning from Kyouko.

Chances of Sayaka tattling?

Or being annoyed that all this training would seem to be actually for helping Mami, rather than Sayaka?

Honestly I just see that causing problems between Sayaka and Kyoko.

Sayaka will not take the witch farming Kyoko was doing well.

"Befriend and make things better" is definitely not how I'd phrase it.

I'd put it along the lines of "I'm working on her, but I can't push her on things ever, so I need somebody to do it for me. She has unspecified socioemotional problems... all I really need you to do is, like, talk to her even minimally about stuff besides how to kill things good, and then just be yourself, say what you feel like saying. Loudly.

If we're looking for concrete, reachable goals that Sayaka can start working on right now... PMAS is all about the people. Tell Sayaka to start helping us with people. So, I want to do something along those lines almost. You're literally on the track that brought me to this.

There's two issues:

1. Privacy, we can't hand out stuff Kyouko's told us in confidence. You're already accounting for that.
2. The only way Sayaka can screw this up is if she somehow ends up telling Kyouko that we told her to do what she's doing, which could implode things. Based on canon, I would hazard a guess -- as have many people -- that she does not need further instruction beyond "hey you should talk to Kyouko some" to do exactly what we want her to do.

Chances of Sayaka tattling?

Or being annoyed that all this training this would seem to be actually for helping Mami, rather than Sayaka?

Yeah, tattling is the issue. Annoyed? Fuck no. Sayaka is well aware that Kyouko is a damn good melee guca. This training is evidently valuable. She's smart, she can recognize that doing something serves two purposes at once. Could it be worth saying that "for reasons that: 1. Kyouko is best meleeguca within 100miles maybe more, 2. social stuff"? Sure, I think so. But I don't think it's a real issue, not when she's looking to be helpful. That this is helping Mami and Kyouko is only going to be a positive.

"Tattling"... Again, if Sayaka says to Kyouko "Sabrina told me to do xyz because npq", we're fucking sunk and we'll be stuck in a faceoff with Kyouko for a bit, which is the primary counterargument to doing this. We'd probably recover from that but it'd suck. Best way to handle Kyouko is undoubtedly a sort of "good cop bad cop" (more like quiet nice cop loud brash cop) routine with Sayaka playing the latter, but it don't work if Red knows we're orchestrating it.

The question then becomes how much rope to give Sayaka. We want to give her enough to know it's there and enough to know to keep her mouth shut about it, but not enough to make her act particularly differently than usual.

The wording I'm trying for is basically "Look, by having you train with Kyouko I'm also aiming for this other objective which is to have you help me help Kyouko (and by extension Mami if we want to add that in). She's got problems... The best way as far as I can tell to do it, though? Literally just have you go loudly be yourself around her. Talk to her and just do and/or say whatever you end up deciding to do. Which, I know, sounds crazy but like actually I'm convinced enough it's the best option that I'm pursuing it directly."

Honestly I just see that causing problems between Sayaka and Kyoko.

Sayaka will not take the witch farming Kyoko was doing well.

I mean that was canon. We're okay with canon happening here. It'll work out. Sayaka will come back one day bitching about this, we'll lecture Sayaka about past versus present and that'll be the end of that, mostly.

I wanted to say something else...

Oh, yeah. @Vebyast. At one point I wanted to have a line explaining how 90% of our issues are socialing people into being stable human beings who aren't assholes. I scrapped it as being unnecessary for now, but the idea stands, yes.

Right now one of Sayaka's big problems is that her idea of our goals is misaligned with what our goals actually are, so she can't see how our assignments for her are helpful, so I think it could be immediately and immensely useful.

Biggest issue I see is actually Sayaka realizing that she is one of those projects. How would she react to that? Could we spin it in such a way that her takeaway is "I need to get help" instead of "I'm being a burden"?

Yeah, that way lies that trap.

I'm tempted to let her realize this passively. It'd be the easy way out of it...

She might go "OH! I'm being useless because I'm not helping with social" but that sounds pipedreamy. I do think that as long as we give her a better idea of how she can help we'll probably be fine. But...

God, I just want to get the Kyouko thing approved first before going into this is my issue right now >_<

Maybe we could ask Sayaka to try to figure out what our problems right now even are? Format it as a lesson in root cause analysis and engineering to assist her with effective creative use of her powers?

Edit : afk ish for now so

I don't the we have to worry about being Gilgamsh Wulfenbach that much guys. I mean, it's not like we have an evil alternate self that threatens to take over under certain situation or our love interest is a SCIENCE! loving girl who also has a past with a sketchy redhead who comes from the darker side of our lifestyle...

...Dammit.

Honestly, I don't much like the "your time will come" approach. It's going to come off more like platitudes. Teenagers are terrible at thinking long term. They're always hearing about how "someday" they're going to be able to do the thing they want to do. "Someday" is never soon enough for them.

Yeah, I can see where that's coming from and I can amend my own vote accordingly. Besides, we've already made that point.

That's why I felt the important things to convey to her were:
-She's actually pretty damn good now.
-We don't worry because she's weaker than the others. We worry because we care. And we worry about everyone else, too.
-We're vulnerable and flawed and human and no better than her so she doesn't need to look up to us as some ideal to measure herself against.

And revealing the last one also demonstrates that we're placing a lot of trust in her, rather than merely saying we do.

I'm note sure I agree with the first point at least, not as you've put it in your vote.

Specifically, I don't like the bolded bits. There are multiple holes in it. For one, we're almost as good as she is and we know basically nobody. For another, hard fight or not, she's a melee specialist, we're a magic specialist: Our hands were basically tied behind our backs here. Hell, we specifically noted that we expected to suck going into that. So did Kyouko.

Turning around to call her beating us a matter of high praise is not a good strategy. It's just going to come off as gold stars and participation trophies. It's the same problem of overselling it we had last time.

I just realized the previous vote's word count limit was 200 words instead of 150.

I am in despair.

What is this madness.
Rectifying a problem or a subtle hint to fit more in this time?
