Wait... why don't we schedule an official wedding for O&K? Have Kiraka make an official proposition, She should be receptive to the idea, and if Oriko gripes, point out it is to make Kiraka happy and she should cave. Heck if she really gripes, we could use her fatalism against her and say that it is better to do it now than later when she might not be healthy enough to go through with it.

It could work as another clue-by-four to Oriko's head as to what she really needs to focus on.
Well, I'm not sure I want Sabrina to hold a shotgun wedding. Madomom wouldn't approve. :V

I'd actually consider making the rings and beg them to keep them and use them in the future when they inevitably marry each other.

We'd be honored to be their ring makers!

As long as they keep the rings, I'm happy.

Inb4 Sabrina becomes some sort of 'official Ring Maker' for many, many meguca weddings.

Meguca from all across the world come to Mitakihara to get married.

Some even remember to get a Clean Seed as a souvenir.

Kyouko would obviously be the one to perform the ceremony. :V

Focus more on the pressing issue of Asunaro and less on forcing a relationship to advance more than is warranted.

Half-Baked

There. The last one.

You clench your hands around it as it turns fully black, no longer able to draw any grief from your soul. You've stretched it out as far as you could, but now it's official - you're completely out of Grief Seeds. Your soul remains deeply tarnished - more than most girls could handle. As you are now, you doubt you could survive the process of hunting a single witch, even if there were any to hunt.

You could take an extra from the communal stash, of course - as the team leader, you have every right to it. Except... you aren't the only one on your last legs. If the group is to survive, then they'll need to be able to acquire more grief seeds. And your magic, however versatile, is simply not suited to hunting.

The logic is obvious. Once a witch appears, it's far more important that the combat team has access to magic than you. If you use one of the last remaining communal seeds on yourself, your whole team - your family - will die.

Some small, animal part of you quietly cries out for your own survival. The cloying, nauseating despair tries to rise up - and you smother it once again. You won't give in. Unconciously, your hand reaches for your earring.

That's right. You'll be your normal self for as long as you can, before your time runs out. That's the least you owe your girls. And if things go for the worst, and you die... They're a good team. They can handle themselves. They'll be fine without you.

You shakily stand up, shifting your gem so it's thoroughly hidden from casual sight. Your smile, in the mirror, is wobbly, but with ease borne of practice, you slide on a cheerful mask. If you're going to spend this last week on Earth with your girls, you'd best make it a cheerful one.

Hmm... there's a strawberry risotto recipe you never got around to trying. You'll file that away for-

'Kazuza? '

You trip, catching your ankle on the edge of your bed. What on- is that Tomoe-senpai? You haven't heard from her since...

'Kazuza, are you alright?'

Her voice has a bit of fear, a bit of concern. Whoops. You suspect a bit of your surprise and pain leaked through the connection.

'T-Tomoe-san. I'm alright. Why do you call?'

You feel an urge to look down and shuffle your feet, as if you were a little girl again. You stamp it down. You run your own group now, and Mami was the one who slowly drifted out of touch. You need to maintain appearances.

'My friend Sabrina-' Her friend? That was new. Mami didn't have friends, she had students. To be someone's friend is to be their equal, and Mami was above that. She had no equals. No matter how much her students tried. '-wanted to visit Asunaro. She can control grief-'

'WHAT!?'
You'd heard the rumors, of course, but... 'She's real?'

A confused jumble of impressions made their way across the link. Warmth, comfort, trust, pride, amusement... and something deeper. 'She's very real, and wants to help however she can. Would you be willing to welcome her?'

You slowly sit down onto your bed, thoughts uselessly chasing themselves. 'Of course. Would tommorow morning work fine?' Ah, so that's what that strange feeling that's been building up is. Hope.

Although, uh, we've never said anything about dewitching to anyone, so that's going to be a thing.

Also not the case. We told Homura that we wanted to work on dewitching when we first showed her the Clear Seeds.

And that brings me to my next worry," you say. "Because... Grief Seeds don't steal Grief from other Grief Seeds-" you raise an eyebrow at Homura, and she nods in confirmation, "-but Grief Seeds will take Grief from a Soul Gem."

Homura's eyes go wide, and she blinks first at you, then the Seed in her hand.

You shake your head. "I don't know. I honestly don't, but I'm not done experimenting with these," you say. "I'm... trying to turn Hildegarde into a Soul Gem, if it's at all possible."

"I see," Homura breathes, eyes still wide. "That's... that's..." she stops, lost for words.

It's in the same update that we learned about the timeline Kwijibo crushed on Homura.

On that note, when are we going to do some hard enchant practice again? Dewitching has really fallen by the wayside.

Mami still has homework, iirc. We could do some low-key practice while she does her thing, and occasionally give each other advice.

Not much time for it tommorow, though - we'll probably have Asunaro, Kyouko will likely want to get her first training session in with Sayaka, we're long overdue on witch hunting (we're almost out of grief seeds to even run new experiments on)...

Hmm. Asunaro could take a few hours or all day depending on how things kick off. As far as seeds go... we have Hildegarde, the unnamed oil rig witch and Elsa Maria. Maybe one more? I don't remember. We should probably be rather hands off with Kyouko and Sayaka's training and Hunting shouldn't take that long. Also we still have a timestop enchant session with Homu we can still use.

I totally intend to practice enchanting while Mami does homework.

Since we got the clue about making enchants of our own magic, we could try doind Grief Control enchants. But that might fail as did the attempts to assist-enchant the same, or might even be restrictred to our range, even if it works.

So if we can't do Grief Control enchant, maybe we can do Multitasking enchants?

On the subject of dewitching, the talk about Magia Record and Kamihama in the discord lately has inspired a line of thinking: It's been battle about that the game might occur within the Law of Cycles or something and as such I wonder if we could replicate something like that within a barrier. (Which does require us confirming that barriers are safe first though)

Basically, if there are... significant physical, mental, or social issues involved with dewitching, perhaps we can make a make a place for it to happen and iron the kinks out.

Depending on how exactly the process ends up working there may be a significant line of research involved. For just one question, is there going to be a recovery period while the soul gem fills back up with hope and grief via living life? After all we do see what a drained soul gem looks like in Wraith Arc and the results of clearing a seed may be a similar emotional deadness.

Just on that line of thought there are many questions: We can make grief bodies like Chibi-Brina, but can we make bodies that other magical girls can control so they can live their lives without risking incorporating grief-matter into their bodies? Would we instead need to make bodies that respond to the inner witch? And how would we deal with the emotional deadness? Would the emotions and memories come back on their own? Or would we need to keep the grief around to be reprocessed over the course of the stay, or else risk the girls losing their pasts?

And as an added bonus to a false city, if we put Kirika and Oriko in charge as administrators it's still technically a prison for them (Could help with Homura's concerns) and helping girls to become human again is real meaningful impact they can make with their lives. Which I think Oriko kind of needs right now. Wouldn't surprise me if being stuck sitting and fretting after being consigned to house arrest is part of why she lost her powers.

I wonder if maybe we aren't approaching the question from the wrong angle too. Thus far we've been focusing on removing grief from the witch, but grief seems to be intrinsic to being meguca as well. Maybe the witch isn't so much an overflow of grief as it is a loss of hope?

We really ought to speak to coobie about this. He no doubt knows more about the physiology of witches than we could discover in months, which would make it much quicker if we were to just ask him and verify his statements instead of trying to science it out from scratch.

I really just want to do the one thing we've been procrastinating on. Get good enough at enchant to the point we can infuse a clear seed with magic safely. We just have to put in the hard time.

If we end up going to Asunaro alone, I think we'll paranoically spend quite s few minutes making protective Speckled Enchantments.

There'll be no Mami to catch us when we fuck up. :p

Oh, some people will likely push for mental protections anyway, but better if we don't go alone, and spend that time practicing.

Other than shape and lacking a body, how different is a clear seed from a soul gem?

Actually one more difference is that it has capacity for a much larger volume of grief, but both contain a dormant witch in them.

Maybe clear seeds would function fine as soul gems, if they had a meguca body spiritually connected with them. Possible drawback, they are still non-rational.

Edit: We could ask Homura if she has any Octavia grief seeds we could use to make a clear seed and ask Sayaka if she would make a clone body we could try to take out of her soul gem range to attempt to connect it with the clear seed. It's probably been suggested before, but since Sayaka has recently gained clone powers it is now possible to make an attempt.
