"... And did you do well on that test?"
"Mh-hm! Nagisa got top scores!"
"That's great, Nagisa!"
"You know what happened then?"
Sabrina smiled to herself, listening as Nagisa went on a random tangent about two classmates and a pot of glue. The teakettle started to hiss and steam then, so she carefully went about preparing the tea one handed, her other hand holding her cellphone to her ear.
She hummed along with her little sister figure's tale as she checked the time: Mami was about to arrive home from school.
The white haired girl spared a thought to feel happy about her roommate's de-limpeting progress, before she tactfully cut into Nagisa's chatter.
"Breathe, little sis! Hey, I got to go right now, call you later? ... Sure, see ya!"
The cellphone went into her pockets, the tray was easily picked up now that she had both hands available. A minute later, she was finishing serving tea in the living room low table, when she heard the sound of rattling keys.
"It was a cold, foggy day," Sabrina narrated suddenly as the door opened, "cheap cigarette smoke covered my office, as if the smog and fog of the city itself had forced its way in. Not that anybody minded; my eyes constantly fixed on my work, and anybody who frequented my office, well, they weren't the nicest sort."
Mami covered a smal laugh as she stepped in. "Hello, Sabrina," she greeted, closing the door after herself.
Said foreigner girl straightened up from her seat on the floor.
"Suddenly the haze lifted from my sight, the very cheap smoke parted ways to let me see... Her. As soon as I saw Her, I knew my next days would be fraught with peril, for when does such a fair dame not carry danger on her step?"
"Did you bake those? They look delicious!" commented Mami while she dropped her bag.
"She walked her way into my dingy, messy office as if it was the cleanest, nicest place in the world. And right then, it was: Her mysterious smile and eyes like honey were like a balm to my very Soul, the sway of her hips enticing, the long, flowing trail of gold that was her hair sweeping the darkness away, as if a ray of pure sunlight had broken through the old, broken shutters of my window."
Mami absentmindedly fiddled with one of her hair drills as she looked away, cheeks red, smile wide. She went to sit down, but first she leaned across the table and quickly pressed her lips to Sabrina's cheek for a second. Then, while Sabrina valiantly tried -and failed- to fight off a face splitting smile, then did Mami sit down.
"I knew she was trouble, oh I did, but nothing could have prepared me for what happened next. I could understand her presence in my office, after all, pain and misery cares not for beauty; I could almost comprehend her familiarity, coupled with her magnificient grace, it spoke of someone who danced with death every night, and had danger for breakfast."
Mami giggled.
"But then, then this dame, this otherwordly dame waltzed up to my desk, and with no warning, threw herself on my arms -as if I was worthy of holding something as elegant as She was- and planted her lips on mine."
Mami giggled harder, covering her cheeks with her hands.
"My world stopped, or maybe the world actually stopped at that moment. I couldn't tell up from down, nor who I was, or where I was; it was like the foggy streets of London has vanished, and I were sitting on a cloud above the clouds, where the sky is always blue and sunny, unlike down on the dark, gloomy earth we were destined to live in.
"I couldn't think. I could only feel her smooth, lustrous lips brushing against mine, a hint of old tears the only flaw in those perfect lips, that perfect moment."
Mami finally dropped her face on her hands, not able to hold Sabrina's gaze any longer. Sabrina's shoulders shook alongside Mami's, the taller girl desperately trying to contain a nervous laugh.
"And then it was over. Her lips left mine and with them went the sun, the warmth of Her body left mine, left me cold and lonely once more, Her endlessly long legs brushed against mine for a last time as she stood, up and away she turned, and my hands wanted nothing more than to reach out and hold her once more. I could hardly stop myself, wishing for nothing more than to slip my arms around that thin waist as she turned, or to caress that long, golden curtain of hair...
"Then the dame sat down in front of me, on the same old, ratty chair as any other of my low life customers, and I knew. I knew that, no matter what she said, what she asked me to do, I wouldn't ever be able to say no.
"I was trapped. Caught like a dumb fly in a spiderweb, and worst of all, I couldn't help but to cherish every moment of it."
Sabrina's hand reached across the table, taking hold of one of Mami's, and gently tugging it away from her face.
Mami shily looked up at Sabrina, at her wide, happy smile, and let their fingers interlace together.
"I lamented myself then, for I had only the cheapest booze to serve in my office, not the high quality of spirits this dame deserved. I also knew this would be the least of my problems in the coming days."
Their hands still holding each other on the table, Mami took her cup of tea, already cool enough to drink, and took a sip.
"It's delicious, Sabrina, as always."
"But who was I to complain? For once in my miserable existance, I could feel my heart beat in my chest. For once in my life, I felt alive."
A chink of porcelain as Mami let her cup down, her hand coming up to wipe at her eyes, just once.
