... sorry; I might of missed something since I sort of skim the disussions - but did somebody suggest shoving Sayaka into not!Ultramarine power armor?

I didn't mean load Madoka up with magical trinkets, guys. She's not our fighter, or even our Cleric. Madoka is our Macguffin.

What I meant was focusing on trying to get Madoka to a level of DODGE! that will let her plausibly survive the first or even second attacks by any Meguca, assuming she sees it coming. She's going to be our Face when Sabrina's out of town, not to mention our Muggle-side informant and psychologist. If she's in combat in the first place, shit has hit the fan at a significant fraction of lightspeed and now there's fragments of fan spreading from the impact point at speeds high enough to ignite nuclear fusion.

Her highest priority in a hypothetical - and we WILL do everything possible to make sure it remains hypothetical - combat scenario is to survive long enough to call Homura in, possibly with cavalry, and let the people with the combat orientation handle things. It's not her job to run into fights and smack people around until they listen - we do that. Her job is three things:

1) Provide Psyche support from a uncontracted Human state, permitting operations unhindered by psychological problems and nullifying risk of unforeseen memetic hazards
2) Provide diplomatic support when required by Mami/Sabrina because they have too much shit to handle, acting as a breaker for stressful political events and preventing system overload
3) Establish Humanside property and industry to permit Puella Magi without a Human Income Human-manufactured goods.

Note that none of them involve direct combat in any way. If Madoka is fighting, it's not a battle, it's an assassination. The Girl's a Politician, not a Soldier. Soldiering and Policing is Kyouko/Homura and Sayaka's jobs, respectively.

Also, at what point do we hit the point where formalizing specialization becomes beneficial? Should we schedule some time to lay this down to the girls soon?

Suggestion:

[] Make note to self: build Sayaka a set of Adeptus Astartes/Sororitas armor at some point in the future. In her colors, of course. Use this as a chance to do science and test magic synergy.

Actually, if we're planning on having Sayaka be MAHOUCOP, then the Imperium might be the way to go. They're very flashy and showy, which means everyone sees them, which is usually good for a cop.

On the other hand, Homura and Kyouko, who will be taking our more militant branches, will probably want something sleek and dense. MJOLNIR maybe?

Stelth via making sure that there isn't anything seen versus "stelth" via making sure that there are to many things to keep track of?

Vote Tally : Puella Magi Adfligo Systema | Page 4483 | Sufficient Velocity

[x] Having Madoka and Homura along to meet with Bennouna sounds great, if they want to come.
[x] For the cleansing trip... maybe once peace has settled in and these trips are routine, but right now we're not quite sure what these girls are like or how it'll go.
[x] While you're thinking about of just-in-case and keeping things safe, ask Homura if she minds holding the fort while the rest of the team is on the cleansing trip.
[x] Give Madoka a brief summary of the Tokyo situation and ask how she thinks we should handle it.
-[x] If you find a chance, pull Homura aside to quietly explain that we're trying to keep her safe - we agree that her coming would be too risky - while making sure she doesn't feel useless or left out.
[x] When the opportunity arises, pull Madoka aside and thank her for last night. Not only was the sleepover nice on its own, the sheer normalcy of it is important. Inviting Sayaka was a particularly good idea; Madoka's a Good Friend.
-[x] Speaking of which, ask Madoka to try to spend some more time with Homura. You're sure she'll appreciate it, and it'd be good for her.

[X] Homura can be a little paranoid, but in this case she's also right. It's our first time going there since the war, and we don't know what to expect. It's only been a week since the fighting stopped in Sendai and Ishinomaki. We need to let peace settle in a bit before it'll safe to take noncombatants there. Maybe in a month when things are a little more stable.
[x] When the opportunity arises, take Madoka aside and thank her for last night. Getting to have a little bit of normalcy away from the madness of the magical girl life meant a lot to us, and it kept Sayaka from nursing a grudge. She was a big help to all of us.
-[x] We can't go into details because we respect her privacy, but we know that Homura has had a really difficult time, suffered a lot of pain and loss, and tends to keep people at a distance. Despite that, she seems to be opening up to Madoka a bit. If Madoka could spend some more time with her, give her an anchor to normal life, we think it could do her a lot of good.

[X] Hug Madoka

[X] Tell Madoka that you appreciate the thought, but Homura is right. Magical girls often get into fights with one another, and some of them are ruthless enough that they would target non-magical friends. You don't want to put her at risk -- and even if she could handle things in a fight, someone as kind and gentle as her shouldn't ever have to fight someone. It's just not right.
[X] Take Madoka's hands in yours and ask her to trust you to handle this, to trust her friends.

[X] Homura can be a little paranoid, but for the cleansing trip part, she's right. Taking along noncombatants should be safe once peace has settled in and these trips are routine, but that might take a few weeks.
[x] We could meet up with Bennouna as a group, but would Bennouna herself be okay with that? Ask Mami - she knows her best. If she thinks it's fine, then Madoka can come along, if she wants.
[x] When the opportunity arises, take Madoka aside and thank her for last night. Not only was the sleepover nice on its own, the sheer normalcy of it is important. Inviting Sayaka was a particularly good idea; Madoka's a good friend.
-[x] Ask Madoka to spend some time with Homura just doing normal teenage girl things. The details are private, but Homura's probably the worst off of... anybody, really... as far as having a normal life goes. She also seems to be opening up to Madoka a bit, though, so you think just hanging out with her could do a lot of good.

Hmm. I like both of the top two, but I'd propose an addition:

[X] Gently chide Homura for, accidentally, you're sure, intimidating everyone. We're all friends here.

I'm not even sure Homura knows she's doing it, but she does kinda need to know.

How much do we actually know about the situation in Tokyo? The summary needs to be a bit less brief than "shit's fucked" for her to provide a meaningful contribution.

Anyway, I've just realized something important. Changing vote.

[x] She can come. You can never have Enuff Doka.

There's some giggling that you register sleepily.

"GOOD MORNING, SABRINA!"

That has you nearly levitating out of the mattress, blanket going flying as you flail upright.
Halfway down the stairs, you hear a door slamming open, followed by very loud squawking. Junko stumbles out of her bedroom to join the racuous breakfast table a few minutes later.
Same reaction, grandma confirmed. :p

MIKI SAYAKA, HERO OF THE IMPERIUM!

She'd be insufferable. Sabrina and Madoka would bust a gut laughing. Totally need to do this.

[x] That all said, give Madoka a brief summary of the Tokyo situation and ask how she thinks we should handle it. She's better at diplomacy than you are.
Madoka's friendly. That's not the same thing as being a diplomat. She's way too trusting. Diplomacy requires a degree of mistrust, of being able to see through someone else's façade to their true intentions.

People keep ascribing all these strange abilities to Madoka that she doesn't have. She's an ordinary teenager with no particular skills, who knows less about the situation that pretty much everyone else.

Thinking about Madoka and combat, even phrasing it as "noncombatants" is a bit iffy.
It's accurate. And it makes clear that this is a serious matter with genuine danger involved. We don't want Madoka thinking that being an MG is harmless fun like on TV.

For that matter we should look into making things using Grief. The precision alone should make it easy to sculpt gun parts out of interesting alloys.
We made a gun out of a combination of Grief and Mami's ribbons yesterday. It was epic.

I mean using Grief as a tool to make things into other things. If nothing else i bet we could make a kick ass underground safehouse. We are practically a minecraftian here. If we coulld get Homura in on the plan we could have a inventory while we are at it.

OH, we should make some underground extensions to everyones houses! With a bunker under the city connected to them all via tunnels! If we could enchant something to give off sunlight we could even set up some agriculture! We could use the extra earth to buld a island somewhere! It would be amazing!

Madoka is smart enough to learn how to be skeptical. We're basically dependent on it, because our next best Face is currently desperately trying to break the rules of both forum and physics on physical contact.

But for her to learn how to be skeptical, she needs to be taught. I'm not proposing we take her on this round - she's better taught on magical girls who aren't as trigger happy with the stabbings, and besides, Homu would murder us. But at some point, Madoka is going to grow up and be a woman, and she's been so inundated with Magical Girl bullshit that a memorywipe by coobs would probably leave her missing half her childhood. Which he'd be happy to do, but would suck for Sayaka or anyone really to watch. So we don't let that happen.

We have to include Madoka somehow. And Psyche isn't flashy enough to get the job done NOW. We need to be absolutely certain Madoka won't contract, and knowing what we know of her psychology, that means she needs to feel needed and important. We also know that means keeping her away from the fighting... That leaves us with the twin realms of money and politics.

We have to make sure Madoka feels like whatever her job is, it's too important to all her friends to just up and drop to go be a magical girl, and it has to be something Puella can't do. Being our Human Face and being our Shrink both fill that role: The shrink has to be able to take and give out Memetic Hazards like the witchbomb without being at risk doing so. And the Face needs to be able to mingle with Humans and do Human things basically all the time. We need someone who can be our middle ground, and not only is Madoka psychologically suited for this role, her background is too. Look at Kaname Manor - Madoka's parents are already fairly wealthy, if not probably super-rich. Madoka goes to an absurdly good middle school, and is likely lined up for a High School that's just as good. We won't have time for University in a few years; we'll be balls deep in setting up the MSY or UoC or whatever, putting down Magical Girl Brawls and making Clear Seeds, probably still working on dewitching, Feathers may still be a threat, and if (s)he's not, then working on our Barrier Science and such - But Madoka will.

Madoka has access to resources we simply won't have the time for. Even Mami's liable to be a high-school drop-out. But Madoka has the time to get a degree in psychology or political science, and probably can get a nice seat in the city or something. She's not super useful now, but if she doesn't become a Meguca, then she'll be our most valuable piece outside of Sabrina's absolute bullshit Clear Seed Factory - She'll be our conspiracy.

None of this is conjecture - just a plan. And nothing ever goes according to plan, of course, but this kind of grandioseness is going to appeal to Madoka and even better is kinda grounded in reality - it's not beyond reason that Madoka could get good at politics and become a minister, and if so she'd obviously be in contact with both Magical Girls and the higher government. Perfect atmosphere for a conspiracy to form.

We have to make sure Madoka feels like whatever her job is, it's too important to all her friends to just up and drop to go be a magical girl, and it has to be something Puella can't do.
Negotiations with other magical girls absolutely doesn't fit into that category, because it's something that she'd think that she could do way better as an MG.

That's why the vote thanks Madoka for giving us some normalcy, and emphasizes the importance of giving us a link back to humanity.

...or, you know, we could just get off our ass and Apocalypsebomb her already so she'll know the real reason she shouldn't contract.

Talking to the team as whole about Tokyo and taking ideas from everybody, including Madoka, isn't necessarily a bad idea. Putting Madoka on the spot by demanding that she provide us with strategic advice is.
