Putting down a vote-fragment for how to handle Madoka's offer:
[X] Tell Madoka that you appreciate the thought, but Homura is right. Magical girls often get into fights with one another, and some of them are ruthless enough that they would target non-magical friends. You don't want to put her at risk -- and even if she could handle things in a fight, someone as kind and gentle as her shouldn't ever have to fight someone. It's just not right.
[X] Take Madoka's hands in yours and ask her to trust you to handle this, to trust her friends.

Well, whatever else we do, first thing is to gently chide Homura for thousand-yard-staring down her friends. What's the best way to phrase that, do you think?

If Homura went directly to glassesless murderface on her first loop this might have been accurate, but she had three loops as Moemura, so probably not. (Note: if this was actually discussed before the update, I apologize. I've only been following the story thread for a while.)

There is no clear difference between R and L sounds. They're described as being in free variation in Japanese, which means that speakers can use either versions in any context without it being considered strange or in error.

The actual sound in Japanese doesn't exactly match either English sound. It's also more similar to L than to English R, being somewhat halfway between the (e.g.) Spanish R sound (which is incidentally how English D is sometimes pronounced) and L.

Hmm. On further reflection, maybe we shouldn't be emphasizing the danger, which, as you've noticed, puts us in the awkward position of trying to tell Madoka she can't help because she's not Contracted even while we're begging her not to Contract. I'm not sure if we ought to be buying into Homura's narrative anyway: her paranoia is not unfounded, but never doing anything because it might be dangerous is no way to live.

Instead, maybe we should emphasize the boredom? We're going to be spending most of the day traveling around, doing things that are only important to people dependant on Greif Seeds to survive, something that Madoka will no doubt find boring and mostly irrelevant to her life. Maybe emphasize that, along with telling Sayaka to bring homework along for the big road trip: focus, in other words, on the banality rather than the danger.
 
I think its important to remember that Madoka doesnt take well to being infantalized or patronized- she's like Oriko in that she engages in self-destructive behaviours when she feels she doesn't have agency or power in a situation (though she tends towards more self-sacrifice than Oriko)

I honestly doubt that Madoka will ever find helping people boring and irrelevant. Those chairs y'all make fun of were supposed to represent magical girls whose faces she didn't know. She will almost certainly see this fantastic tale of heroic wonderment for what it is.

And travel time isn't a reason for her to not meet Bennouna. We don't have to choose between her doing the entire thing and her staying home, she could just be there for our interview or up through Sendai.
 
Beyond danger, were we to bring Madoka, we'd have to bring Homura too, and that leaves O&K as the only meguca in our part of the city.

Maybe we can bring Doka to meet Bennouna, say the trip might get dangerous, and promise to include Doka in future meguca meetings/trips, once peaceful relations have been stablished.

It's hard not to, sometimes -- Homura's behavior towards Madoka has this sort of effect, some of the time.

That said I do quite agree.

[] There is a nonzero chance that this could turn into a battle at some point. There simply hasn't been enough time since hostilities stopped. Tensions are too high, and more than anywhere else, a meguca fight is not where you want Madoka to be.

Its an continuum.But yes, Japanese r/l is pretty much 'r'. See Akira, Ranma.... which name in Chinese would Be Lan Ma or something...
Or 'Miruku' for Milk. Which pretty much shows Japanse pronounciation.
The really funny thing is, of course, that japan does not really do consonant combinatinos except n+something, so ....

Also if anyone did not think that Sabrina and Mami are together, they sure do so now.

Madoka and Homura should go on a date, I mean spend the day together as friends. (It's totally a date, though.)

It's probably safe to bring Madoka to the talk to Bennouna, and I think I'm actually all for that, but I'm not sure about the cleansing trip. Having her along is a little bit risky-rewardy; I can see her doing a pretty good job of the therapy/deescalation thing even just being near the problem. Try for a ribbon enchantment that lets her attend via telepresence?

Helping people is what Sabrina will be doing. What Madoka will be doing is watching a bunch of child soldiers engage in the magical girl equivalent of water politics, and without the visceral understanding of how life-and-death important it all is because she doesn't get that, to a meguca, access to cleansing is as important as access to water is to someone living in a desert. The best thing the situation could be to Madoka is boring and irrelevant; at worst she might inadvertently say something insensitive to someone and set off one of the more twitchy girls, getting everyone upset.

Bringing Madoka along is just not a good idea, not until she has a far better grasp of the political and emotional situations of the non-Mitakiharan meguca population.
 
[ ] Homura does have a point. Madoka could come with us to meet Bennouna if she wants, but meeting other groups of magical girls should wait until peace has settled.

I think that's about it about that.

We should remember to call ahead before we do the trip, though. Both Sendai groups and Ishinomaki, don't know about Tokyo.
