@Godwinson incidentally, interesting analysis. I'm not sure I understand where you're coming from wrt Sayaka and motivation? Can you elaborate?

He's saying that if we had told Sayaka upfront what had happened, she wouldn't of needed to contract for the specific reason she did because she wouldn't have the misconception that the people who assaulted her family were still out there. She's fucking angry because despite our assurance that we didn't want her to contract for unnecessary reasons, we directly caused exactly that, and she's realizing that. She sold her soul over our own negligence.

@Godwinson's analysis is really the only reason we owe Sayaka an apology, rather than an excuse.

Try to remember that we don't really owe Sayaka anything. Yes, we want to be truthful and forthright with her, since she is a friend, but we did not ever promise to find the arsonist or anything. I'm also certain that the Incubators had to have come up with a mundane-friendly reason for Sayaka's apartment building to be burnt down, since maintaining the masquerade is their prerogative, so as far as she knew the case was closed. Yes, we needed to come clean about things eventually, but the best time to do that would be a weekend, like this one, where Sayaka would have time to process what happened, and the first weekend after the fire we were in Sendai stopping a war that could have killed thousands. If that were the situation today, then in the face of Sayaka's anger we could have just shrugged and told her the truth: we were trying to find a good time to tell her, and this was the first time we really had available.

But that isn't the situation today. Today, Sayaka, thanks to feelings of helplessness and powerlessness that started with the fire and peaked when she was attacked by a Witch, decided to break her promise to Madoka, Sabrina, and Mami and sold her soul to Kyubey for power. That's why we owe her an apology today: because our actions contributed to those feelings of helplessness by not telling her that we actually did catch the person who set fire to her apartment, and that she never needed to sell her soul in the first place.

I guess we also kind of owe her an apology for not shoving her face in exactly how tough magical girl life is for most magical girls, and instead focusing only on the cool powers bits, but frankly we should not have needed to do any of that because we had already gotten a promise from her that she would never Contract, and we took her at her word. I certainly hope we won't make that mistake again, but we probably will because the most vocal people on this thread see Sayaka as a paragon of virtue who never makes mistakes.

Are we finally get around to eating Grief? At last.

Sayaka groans, covering her eyes. "Can we just... get on with it?"
[Q] "Yeah, let's get on with it."
-[Q] Enter Oriko's house by kicking down the door!
-[Q] ...
-[Q] ... That was a glass door, wasn't it?
-[Q] "Oriko, you won't believe how ironic that was... but I warned you about having breakable stuff, sis!"
-[Q] Go sit aside and away from everyone else and let Mami handle this stuff. You're clearly not prepared for it.

....can we just choose this option by default for anything social unless explicitly specified otherwise? I suspect that would be better for all involved, including Mami's nerves.

Sabrina: Ok so Oriko and Kirika are inside waiting. This is how this will work - we're going to go inside and *talk* ... we'll you guys are. I am going to have some tea and watch from the side quietly. I will let you discuss things out and only provide input if I feel some context is needed. Also don't try any funny business - you'll be glued to the roof before you know you've moved.

and don't try to run... Homura is outside with a sniper rifle.

Mami: ......

Sabrina: That last part was a joke.

edit: I can make this into a proper vote if people want....

actually ON just letting Sayaka, Hitomi and Oriko discuss things with Mami and Sabrina on hand to keep things civil (and stop Oriko from being cryptic).... any reason NOT to do that?

Yes Sayaka has issues with how *we* handled the situation but those could be addressed (assuming they have not effectively been addressed on the trip over) after we deal with this. We, as mentioned often, suck at social - partly due to how voting works here so why not take a hands off approach and watch how stuff plays out to give us more information to act with?

Okay, preliminary. Cleanses, Homu come inside?, ask Kirika to go easy and you'll make anybody who gets out of line apologize to her ojou, contingency for violence, contingency for somebody saying something godawful, and a bunch of "Mumi ur best."

Long AF for a vote that does... Pretty much no real actions.

[X] Go with the flow. Knock on the door or something. You're pretty much just here as a middlemeguca so long as things don't go poorly.
[X] Make introductions when appropriate.
[X] Telepathy: Ask Oriko if it's alright for Homura to come in. You haven't asked Homura yet.
-[X] If yes, Telepathy: Ask Homura if she wants to come inside. Don't press her either way.
[X] Telepathy Kirika. Ask for some leniency with S&H if they do anything that's an issue for her. We'll make them feel really, really bad about it and they'll end up apologizing. If she feels a need to protect her Ojou we're not asking her not to, merely to not completely eviscerate whoever.
[X] Telepathy Mami. Thank her for...
-[X] Fumble trying to specify something, thank her for being her. You messed up in a couple places back at the apartment and she caught you every time.
[X] If anybody gets physical, restrain them, and cooperate with anyone else who responds to it to do so without injury.
-[X] If it's Homura, instead ask her to timestop and break to voting.
-[X] Else, if it's minor, continue. Otherwise break to voting. (We trust Firn with that difference.)
[X] If anybody starts saying things horribly out of line (e.g., bringing up Oriko's father entirely to antagonize/hurt her), call them on it.
[X] If somebody's soul gem gets over 50% somehow, warn and then cleanse all present meguca.
[X] Chat with Mami over telepathy as long as nothing is burning. Hold her hand more, sit next to her if those are reasonable actions. (Will suggest topics for chatting if requested).

I see no reason not to do that and really, doing something else would be overbearing in the extreme because your suggestion is what the natural action would be. Hence the vote.

I...goddamnit.

I always get to this thread right as Kaizuki proposes a plan, and the last three times it's been one that I not only agree with, but one that I'm just not equipped to tweak for detail. I feel like some sort of weird sycophant always donating my vote to the same person...

[X] Kaizuki

One of these times I'll have the time to make my own plan! With blackjack! And...well, not hookers, that'd hurt Mami's feelings. Maybe strippers? But like, classy strippers. Vaudeville. Do you guys think Mami would enjoy vaudeville? I feel like she would.

Well, that's... pretty much what I was imagining will happen. :V Can't think of anything to add at all.

[X] Kaizuki
-[Q] Ask Mami to marry you so you will always have someone to catch you when you fall. :p

I mean... I think people stared at the "[] Write In" at the bottom of the post and went "... Eh?" I know I did, lol. For once "Where's the fire" isn't the question of the day :)

If we want a fire we're at the right place! With the right meguca to start it!

Hell, I bet there's even fuel and accelerant lying around, too!

[Q] Ask Oriko where all the fuel and accelerant is.
-[Q] You're asking for a friend.

I think acting solely as a chaperone, and letting Oriko hand these girls their asses in Social Combat would be an excellent idea. Maybe even let Oriko know we're not expecting her to play nice, as long as it remains bloodless.

She's honestly one of the best Social characters around, and has the mentality and position needed to tear Sayaka and Hitomi's complaints to shreds:

"You burned my house down!"

"Would you tackle someone to protect them from a bullet? You were going to die. Burning your house down was the best way to avert that, as I Saw it. Shame you decided to forfeit most of your lifespan after all of my hard work."

---

"I-!"

"-should be glad you've only got a broken arm. Just like I'm glad that Sabrina didn't kill me...rather fortunate I had such a generous enemy, don't you think?"

Guys, I know how to make sure this social goes smoothly

[:V] Invite Kyouko over as "Mediator"
-[:V] Make sure only Kyouko knows that mediation is to be done with the flat end of her spear at as fast as possible, unless it's Hitomi, who's squishy and is hit by Yuma with a rubber bat instead
--[:V] Watch peace happen. Kyouplomacy.

[Q] At any random moment during the upcoming discussion/debate/catfight, idly ask Kirika if she wants to try swapping Ojous for a day.
