Oh well, no cosplay. Maybe later.

Walpurgis talk? Try Cannone di Picchio, or does that need to wait until we go Witch hunting?

Also, Sayaka got to h-h-hold hands with Brina, it's only fair Homu gets hugs. Just saying. :p

So! That went well. Pretty sure Mami got a confidence boost too, since she was on the winning side of every single match.
As expected of Mami!
That's pretty much what I figured would happen, which is why I wanted to have Sayaka and Mami team up last, so Sayaka could finish on a win after getting beaten in the first two matches. :D

Alright, let's start laying the groundwork for a vote.

We were originally going to tell Sayaka about Walpurgisnacht after this, so we should probably do that now. Some people in previous votes were suggesting giving Sayaka her apology cupcake now, but I don't think we brought it with us. Actually, it might be a good idea to take this conversation somewhere more comfortable, if we're done with training for the day.

[x] A few hours, maybe the whole day if we have to fly to Tokyo. Got to have Mami back in time for school on Monday.
-[x] We're hoping that this will just be a quick visit to check up on people and cleanse some Soul Gems and Grief Seeds, but it would be just our luck if we found some sort of crisis going on when we got there that we had to help sort out, in which case... it might take a while.
[x] Shall we move this discussion to someplace more comfortable?
-[x] Use a Grief platform to fly everyone back to Mami's place. Offer to clean everyone's Soul Gems. Offer everyone their personalized cupcakes.
[x] There's something else that we have to talk about that's... less fun.
-[x] There's a super-Witch that appears once a generation called Walpurgisnacht. It's so powerful that it doesn't need a Barrier. It appears in the real world and rains down so much destruction that the city will think it was hit by a natural disaster. And it's coming to Mitakihara at the end of the month.
--[x] Sayaka will probably start freaking out, so explain that we're going to try to stop it. We've got plans to evacuate the city before it hits, and we're going to ask almost every magical girl we know to fight alongside us.

Anything I'm missing?

We still didn't get the chance to test Grief-launched projectiles, but it seems like we're not going to get the chance right now.

-[ ] With Homu's consent, let Sayaka and Mami know Homura's hacked into Mitakihara's metereological database to announce a hurricane's (?) gonna hit the city that day, and get everyone to the shelters.

(Was it a hurricane?)

You don't think that just telling her that "we have plans to evacuate the city before it hits" will suffice?

That's legit. Sayaka needs more reasons to think well of Homura.

Finding this took too long.

"Alright. Miss Ueda, are you ready to go home?" you ask the Tokyo girl, who's returned to trying to pat her voluminous twintails dry.

"... yes," she replies. "Though... it's possible that I will be in contact with you at a later time, if that's acceptable, Miss Sabrina?"

You shrug. "Yes, that's fine."
We probably should contact her, anyway.

We only made one personalized cupcake per person, and we're not handing them out till the picnic.

Sayaka is the exception, but her extra cupcake is meant to be an apology for waking her up at six in the morning, so handing out cupcakes to everyone undercuts that.
Whoops! I went back and checked that update and you were right.

The biggest issue is that after the Orikobomb, she might not want to go on a roadtrip with us.

I'll set my social on it, so please place your trust in me once more when I say that Sayaka will be O-K with us after the orikobomb, though she may want some time to herself.

That said... Right now, this vote, an addition please. It will help later.

[] You don't need to commit to this (the trip) now, Sayaka. We don't need train tickets or anything, so feel free to wait on deciding. (gives sayaka an out later if she wants it)
[] There's a couple more things on the meguca side that you're going to have to hear about this weekend, though, Sayaka. The first... (WPN talk). (Gives us a starting point for orikobomb convo later)
-[] If Sayaka asks about the other thing after the WPN talk: it's a bit unpleasant and not in the "big enemy, will fight" way, so it should probably wait until after the picnic...

[x] A few hours, maaybe the whole day if we do end up getting in touch with Tokyo, or if some crisis comes up. But probably, what, four or five hours? Look at Mami for confirmation.

[x] Ask Homura and Mami by telepathy if this is a good time to talk to Sayaka about Walpy. Ask to form the privacy construct, then do so.

[x] There's something else that we need to talk about.
-[x] When multiple witches interact with each other, under rare circumstances, they can merge into a single, stronger witch. There's one such conglomerate that has persisted for hundreds of years, appearing about once a generation, and gathering strength all the while. It is known as Walpurgisnacht- the "night of witches".
--[x] Indications are that it's going to arrive in Mitakihara by the end of the month.
---[x] Indicate for Mami to confirm all this.

[x] Homura is basically the foremost expert on Walpurgisnacht in the world, and its pending arrival is part of her reason for being in Mitakihara at the moment.
-[x] But the basics are that it's enormous - skyscraper sized - and manifests in the real world, not in a barrier. Each of it's familiars takes the form of a shadowy magical girl, complete with powers.
--[x] There's a very good chance it's going to level the entire city if unopposed: in the past, appearances of Walpurgisnacht were attributed to enormous storms, or volcanic eruptions - natural disasters of that magnitude.

[x] We're going to try to stop it. Defeat it, once and for all.
-[x] Homura's already hacked into the weather service to issue a hurricane warning and order an evacuation of the city before it hits, and we're going to ask almost every magical girl we know to fight alongside us.
-[x] We won't force Sayaka to risk her life - and with how powerful Walpurgisnacht is, even with the best plan, there's always a risk - but if she's willing to help, then we'd welcome her to the team.

[x] If she asks why we didn't mention this earlier:
-[x] Grimace. With my unique power, and this amount of forewarning, we're in an unusually good position to put together a coalition against Walpurgisnacht. Pushing you and Madoka to contract was the last thing we wanted to do at that point.

Mami got a moe boost.
"Also, dibs on Mami!"

Mami makes a pleased little noise and nestles into the hug.

I think this is more than we actually know.

Or are there quotes for this?

[x] Homura is basically the foremost expert on Walpurgisnacht in the world, and its pending arrival is part of her reason for being in Mitakihara at the moment.
... I feel we should have rehearshed this with Homura first.

I'm not sure that this is the best move. It'll put Sayaka on edge through the whole picnic wondering when the other shoe is going to drop. The whole idea is to give her a chance to relax first so she's in the best possible headspace to accept what we have to tell her.

We can ask her during the telepathy how much she wants us to say. Never mind, we can't talk about this over telepathy. Kyubey could listen in.

We could let Homura step into the briefing and say as much as she's comfortable saying about her own involvement.

The only part without an explicit source I can think of is the "once a generation" part. The rest is factually correct.
I thought the "once a generation" thing was in the statblock we read off when Homura asked us what we knew about Walpurgisnacht, but looking again I see that I misremembered.

Each of it's familiars takes the form of a shadowy magical girl, complete with powers.
Do we know that those shadow meguca have powers? I don't remember them ever demonstrating them.

She also has other familiars, like green elephants and other circus stuff.

How about, "Its familiars can take many forms, including green elephants--full size!--and dark reflections of magical girls."

We should also mention its propensity to throw buildings around.

Yes, I've considered that. I don't think Sayaka is the kind of person who will end up having that happen. I rather expect her to get very involved chatting with people and forget all about it until after.

[Q] Once you're done talking about Walpurgisnacht, be cheerful Sabrina and ask Sayaka for a hug.
-[Q] Insist until she relents.
--[Q] Then sweep her up, squeeze her tight, place your mouth beside her ear, and whisper:
---[Q] "I've been lying to you, keeping secrets I had no right to. Later today I'm gonna reveal this to you, you'll have to come face to face with something you're gonna hate, and it's.
----[Q] "Gonna,"
-----[Q] "Suck."
------[Q] Let go as if nothing had happened.
-------[Q] Be cheerful Brina. Hug your Mami.

I dunno if I agree. Sayaka isn't exactly famed for her tendency to not obsessively worry about things until they start to eat away at her.

Hey. Has the subject of generating flash-bulb effects in combat been brought up?

We generated a laser, how far is it to just make a bright flash of light?
Should be easy enough to do. We could also try dialing the laser's power down enough to just blind the target instead of burning them.

An alternate take:

[x] A few hours, maaybe the whole day if we do end up getting in touch with Tokyo, or if some crisis comes up. But probably, what, four or five hours? Look at Mami for confirmation.

[x] If she asks why we didn't mention this earlier:
-[x] We didn't want to do anything that might push you into contracting. If I'd told you that there was a threat to the entire city coming, would you have even thought twice about signing up? We hoped that with the three of us plus the other magical girls we were planning to recruit, we would be able to win without you having to make that sacrifice.
