Which of those is most closely associated with Yukari? The initial impetus for the Touhou cosplay was the Tokyo girl who dresses up as Yukari.

None of them directly link to Yukari, but Shinki is an equal (or even superior) to Yukari in power who clashed with Gensokyo, and Youmu is a servant of Yukari's best friend.

So one of those two, depending on the message we want to send.

Expounding on that a bit, Shinki has white hair and blue eyes, can form wings at will, and created her own hell dimension, who's denisens swamped Gensokyo with tourism, until Reimu & co. beat her up to stop it. (As is tradition.)

She might also literally be the Christian Lucifer, so yeah.

That all sounds a lot like Sabrina. So what message would dressing up as her send to Tokyo Yukari? That we're evil, that we can make Barriers, that we're going to be sending a lot of tourists her way, that we think we're better than her?

Yup.

Debatable. Well. I mean, she's ominous as fuck, but in the games all we see her do is offer her minions/creations paid vacation time, and throw a fit when the protagonists break into her house and break all her shit. If she's evil, she's very affably evil.

that we can make Barriers, that we're going to be sending a lot of tourists her way, that we think we're better than her?

All of those are implications, yeah.

E: Here's a chibi Shinki, since it's surprisingly relevant.

I like the picture of Shinki better.

[x] Uh. Hmm. I suppose I'd be okay with that if you are, Mami? Though if that round goes as quickly as I expect it will, maybe we can shuffle the teams for the next go around?
-[x] After all, you could really do with the dodge training almost as much as Sayaka, and the best people to get dodge training from are obviously Mami and Homura, right?
--[x] We'll decide whether to switch teams around once we see how things play out. What kind of ruleset will we be using, anyway? Mami, Homura, thoughts? Defer to the veterans' expertise.
---[x] If Homura brings up not wanting Sayaka to copy her power, and Mami objects, try and smooth it over. Use telepathy if necessary.

[x] Keep working on the Cannone di Picchio, with Homura's advice taken into account. Try out a scale model of a few loading mechanisms, both hand-held and from larger naval artillery. See which ones are easiest for you to handle.
-[x] Try integrating a loading mechanism into one of Mami's muskets, to see how your magics interact on a smaller scale. Note any issues or oddities and try to resolve them.
--[x] If all goes well, try it with Tiro Finale. Let Mami name the result.
---[x] If it's safe, have your chibi climb onto the cannon while you work on it. Invite Mami's chibi as well.

[x] When Sayaka arrives, greet her as if nothing unusual is going on. Refuse to acknowledge the existence of the chibis in the background.
-[x] Distract her by offering her the cupcake apology you made.
--[x] Dismiss the various experiments (including, sadly, the chibis) and set up the training.

[x] Try and make sure Sayaka doesn't repeat the same mistakes Mami identified yesterday: In particular, tunnel vision and not considering approaches before taking them. Don't judge Sayaka, though - you're not infallible either, and there's things for you to improve on as well.
-[x] Within the rules of the spar, take it as seriously as possible - you'll need to if you want to have the slightest chance of success against Mami and Homura, and this is a learning experience for you too.

[x] After the spar, unwind and be a bit silly. Show Sayaka that you discovered yesterday that puella magi can shift outfits when they want to - kinda like how she recreated her cape, but on a bigger scale.
-[x] Cosplay as Shinki from Touhou, complete with wings.

Twitch Play's Pokemon's Momoji was named Awoo, wasn't that bright, was slightly violent towards her teammates, chopped wood and ran a news station.

Of course, no one else would know that as it'd be an anachronistic reference (Also, Cirno earned her title as the Strongest in TPP, for defeating the PC with her surfboard)

Forgive me if this idea is stupid, but have we ever tried using Mami to bypass our range?

Like, tie a ribbon to ChibiBrina and tell her to like, imagine connecting, so that our magic runs through the ribbon into the construct like a lifeline. Have ChibiBrina walk out of range. What happens?

I can't dismiss the idea entirely because Mami's ribbons are partially conceptual; they represent the concept of karmic ties in of themselves and represent her attachment to living in the face of death. They are, quite literally, karmic strings.

Magic entirely works off of karmic destiny, emotional bonds, and imagination, and our bond with Mami has to be incredibly tight and magically significant. Maybe Mami can act as a conduit for our magic, if only because we already "Connect"?

That ideas been proposed before, but never actually tested. I'm all for trying it at some point.

PC-98 TOUHOU DOES NOT EXIST.

ZUN said it's canon. Do you doubt our lord and saviour?

There's just one thing missing from all of this...

I'm happy to try the ribbon idea. I also suggested trying to impart grief with the property of "belongs to X" and seeing if it then decouples from our range and can ten be used in X's range.

Maybe we shouldn't do that because the wording might make it go into their Soul Gem because it's 'their' Grief.
It is the kind of thing we should try with very small samples and be prepared to grab, just in case, for the first time. However, better wording may be helpful, yes.

Well that went pretty well.

I notice the vote is longer than page, now. I think it is good and I'll be making it longer :V
(the lack of ""s around talking threw me - I thought "why are we voting to think this, we already know Mami is a best.")

More seriously, few thoughts on few potential paths:

Trying operation as chibi only - interesting - important, for being gemmed! - idea, but....We're not limited to chibi (but we can't upgrade from chibi due Mami), we have absolute proprioception and grief TK making cheating natural....

No chibi. But you know what? Lets ask if Homura and Mami would be ok with us grief coating the inside of our coat. Being nigh-imperceptible, we could permanently utilize it after all, and it has motion applications we'd need practice with.

Also swishing applications.

[x] Uh.
--[x] Also, you kinda use use grief to move around by instinct with your wings. Do they think it good to use tiny wings for this practice, or applying static grief to the inside of your outfit as power armour?

----[x] If Homura brings up not wanting Sayaka to copy her power, and Mami objects, try and smooth it over. Use telepathy if necessary.

Not sure there's point to including handgun applications when we can't use that for the Cannone di Picchio (name pending - should we mention this name idea to Mami? On the plus side, she's happy we're trying to name things, but on the minus side, it is an imposition of our will on something she cares about.). But don't see a reason why naval guns wouldn't scale down (I'm not good at guns tho).

[x] Keep working on the Cannone di Picchio, with Homura's advice taken into account. Try out a scale model of a few loading mechanisms from larger naval artillery. See which ones are easiest for you to handle.

Uh. Iiiiiiit iiiis probably fine (Seiyuku is a big girl!), but this is, like, the arch-example of gaslighting in my mind (of saying someone is seeing things). So, lets make the Chibi offer her the cupcake?

[X] When Sayaka arrives, greet her as if nothing unusual is going on. Refuse to acknowledge the existence of the chibis in the background.
-[X] Distract her by using your Chibi body to offer the cupcake you made, with a cwute apowogy.
--[X] Dismiss the various experiments (including, sadly, the chibis) and set up the training.

These two things are perfect. I have no doubts.

[x] Try and make sure Sayaka doesn't repeat the same mistakes Mami identified yesterday: In particular, tunnel vision and not considering approaches before taking them. Don't judge Sayaka, though - you're not infallible either, and there's things for you to improve on as well.

I put in a catch-all "take appropriate precautions" clause, and Mumi has experience with highly damaging attacks. I don't think we'll do anything particularly dangerous.
True, just lets not become reliant on it - it really only is a shorthand for a longer vote of the precautions one thinks the thread would take, which is what I think what they meant.
Not until Mima returns.
...There can be one response to this, and it is a response I have taken.
