The thing is, we don't actually know how Tiro Finale works or what's keeping her from making it automatic on her own. So we can talk about gun engineering and it'll probably end up informing Sabrina's contributions, but we're missing some pretty critical knowledge to actually finalize a design. That'll be Sabrina and Mami.

This. The more I think about it, the more certain I am Mami doesn't create any actual powder - that sounds murderously difficult with ribbon magic, and with very little benefit compared to just creating a strip of explosive ribbon for each shot. Nevertheless, we need to know how Tiro Finale actually works before trying to improve the firing mechanism.

Vote 3: Excessive Length

[x] Okay then! Hug Mami, then close your eyes and concentrate.
-[x] Unleash... the chibi.
--[x] See if you can look through the chibi's eyes. Try and get the hang of piloting/controlling it. Have Chibi Brina hug Chibi Mami.

[x] Ah, Homura contacted me. She said she's willing to come for Sayaka's training today, and might show up a little early to catch the tail end of our practice session. She declined to let Sayaka copy her power, though. Hopefully she'll get past that with time.
-[x] Any thoughts on what we should cover in today's session for Sayaka? I was thinking we could cover positioning and approach options. Sayaka was far too eager to rush into melee yesterday. And with Homura here, we could also cover teamwork - do a 2v2. I'm sure Homura has airsoft or the like. What do you think?
-[x] Heh. Should we prank Homura and have just our chibi's greet her? Or Sayaka?

[x] Once that discussion wraps up: GOOD MORNING MITAKIHARA!
-[x] How is everyone? Everyone set for the picnic?
--[x] Sayaka, is that training this morning still on?

[x] Privately message Sayaka.
-[x] Sorry about the early wakeup call. It's just, I screwed up, and wanted to make sure you were okay. Clear seeds can dump the grief in them into normal grief seeds on contact. It's not an issue on its own, but if a normal grief seed overfills... the witch in it can rehatch. I am very, very, very sorry about not mentioning it earlier.

[x] Call Nagisa's uncle. Let him know about the plans for the picnic. Ask if Nagisa can attend.

[x] Offer to try working on a tandem attack with Mami. Start by seeing if you can cooperate to make a automatic firing mechanism compatible with Mami's muskets. Look into what she actually uses for propellant, and how she wants to feed the ammunition.
-[x] If it works, try with a scale model of Tiro Finale, to work out placement of various components, before scaling it up to full Tiro Finale size. Keep in mind the fine control you have over grief, and abuse it liberally to avoid issues common to big guns. Aim downward, because the ground is pretty much the only backstop that can withstand this thing.
--[x] Let Mami name it.

[x] Greet Homura when she arrives, potentially as two chibis tinkering with a massive autocannon.

Weren't we talking about railguns earlier? Why not just provide the rails, Mami provides the shot, and then we accelerate it to escape velocity?

I mean, it wouldn't look like Tiro Finale, but advancements in weaponry rarely looks the same as the old weapon.

And from then on, Sayaka had more and more difficulty using magic until she became a normal human again, her potential burned up.

"Well...um...so that's decontracting down...What if I..."

"Sabrina, we are not starting a females-seeking-males dating service for Witches."
"No, no, maybe Kyousuke is the answer!"

"... You said his name right."

*Shrug* "He's important now."

"WHAT IS THIS I HEAR ABOUT SETTING UP MY BOYFRIEND WITH OTHER GIRLS?"

"Well, you're obviously non canon."

"What?"

"Nothing, just quot- I mean, I didn't set up Kyousuke with other girls."

"Oh..."

"I set him up with a Witch har-coven."

"Start running."

"I meant cov-"

"Before I cut you."

*Bolts*

"Come back here!"

"You told me to run!"

"Don't listen to me! Stop!"

"You're not making seeeeeense...!"

[Q] Before getting to work on the Repeating Tiro Finale, grab Chibi Mami, give her a spinning hug, a kiss and a headpat and let her back down.
-[Q] Now get on SCIENCE!-ing!
--[Q] Remembet Mami could feel ALL of that.

Regarding Prima Luce: Isn't the obvious answer a pseudo-transparent barrier that is part of the attack? One programmed to absorb only damaging frequencies of light.

As for Tiro Finale...if we simply link a spontaneous accelerator to the trigger, such that pulling it brings it into contact with the ammunition, then all Mami has to do is keep creating muskets to be launched.

She declined to let Sayaka copy her power, though. Hopefully she'll get past that with time.
I dunno, I share Homura's possible concerns about Sayaka accidentally abandoning the timeline and fucking up the next one before Homura even arrives. Or accessing the null-space Homura apparently did in the Wraith Arc and summoning Yog Sothoth or something.

I mean, it wouldn't look like Tiro Finale, but advancements in weaponry rarely looks the same as the old weapon.

Could we inset a coil on the inside of the barrel, and amplify the shot via grief!magnetism coilgun, in addition to the normal firing mechanism improvement? It would both have the advantages of a railgun and look basically the same as Tiro Finale I think.

Some coilgun and railgun designs, especially the super-high-velocity versions. do use a conventional system to "inject" the projectile into the accelerator at high speed. Railguns in particular like using this because it simplifies the firing system: instead of having to close a giant relay, which is actually a little bit difficult to do fast enough (we're talking microseconds here, remember), you just connect your rails to your capacitors and then slam the projectile into the rails at speed to complete the circuit and initiate electromagnetic operation.

The trick then becomes having the projectiles be conductive. Up to Mami.
Making Ribbons conductive is probably really freaking difficult.

We could however (subject to experimentation regarding Grief that leaves our range) place a shell of conducive grief around each ribbon bullet Mami makes, because being conductive is only important before it accelerates to high speed.
