Methodology: Put down our soul gem. Walk 50 metres away. Then see how far we can send grief in
Perhaps by taking a small sphere and expanding it into gas (or, more efficiently, a band) uniformly in all directions, stopping each part when it starts to dissipate, until we feel out the entire border of our range?

Hm, but why would it be an ellipsis? Especially since if the 'grief is an extension of our body' theory is correct, that'd be an effectively infinite range right there... and what about our physical body exactly would cause our control to be projected? Remember, our grief is controlled by magic, and I don't think there's anything in our body that would affect magic in and of itself? Especially since our Soul is outside of it?

Sure (I mean...no magical girl can do anything outside of their own range since that's what range is, and our range is pretty long) but why lasers? Even if they went past our range, if they can't punch a hole through an enemy from more than twice our range, they're not really helpful (since with free range of high speed movement and infinite shields, it's just as easy to move closer).
Didn't Homura give us a sawed off nagant or some weird shit? We could use that. Bullets. Those work good, Homura can attest. Or ask her for a .50 cal or something. Those work even gooder.

Our range isn't that long. note Mami with her half-klick targeting range. Or Sakura with her inter-city teleportation. or Ramiel. we're actually one of the shorter ranges, not counting the ones with rages of "personal" and "hit it with my stick".
we have grief hax to power it. we can basically make the laser as powerful as we want to to the point where we cant fire it without setting the air on fire. Also, hitscan weapon, they ain't gonna be able to dodge that.
and where are you getting infinite shields from? I don't think we have any shields, last I checked.
yes she did. and they work good for her because she can literally fill the air with bullets. we... can't. hell, I have my doubts we could even hit whatever we aim at, we have no firearms experience whatsoever.
If we could make lasers though, we could fill the air with lasers.

With the infinity x 100 ways to basically cheat with grief this thread has come up with, aiming is registered as a problem?
Just do the silly grief harness thing, but on the gun, so it aims for us.
Also note, while 100m isn't massive compared to SOME things, our 100m isn't an effective range, it's a 100m instant death range. Like, in 100m we basically just win if we go hard.

The problem is that we have no counter to someone who can instant-death us from 101m. It's essentially also our effective range.

Well I suppose there's no point not testing it, though I don't believe the body has any effect on the range...
Also noticing there are two viewpoints on the range issue, which are:
- we need range to defend ourselves from attackers with a longer range
- we need range so that the things we make persist outside it (like Oriko's antipain ring)
And it's the first point which causes a bit of dispute. I think it's really only an issue if we piss off a teleporter with long range attacks? Otherwise we can close really quickly with flight. So... don't piss off Sakura?
