Gah, social land mines everywhere. Is this better?

[X] Telepathy. Ask Homura if something's wrong.
-[X] Listen.
[X] Slow down the grief carpet. Tell Mami and Homura you want to try this again one last time.
-[X] Telepath Megane. Patch in Mami and Homura.
--[X] Tell her that there is something you absolutely have to talk about in person. This really can't wait and is a matter of life and death to magical girls.
--[X] Explain that you couldn't meet earlier because one of your friends was suffering from personal problems and needed your immediate help and support. You had planned on contacting her only a little while later, but then another friend of yours was attacked by a Witch.
--[X] You are so very sorry it took you so long to get back to her especially with a matter as big as this. You wouldn't be bothering her like this if it wasn't important and something that she needed to know.
[X] You didn't want to intrude like this but it needs to be tonight. It could potentially save her life.

I'm pretty sure that if we at least insistently stay on it that she might hear us out and won't just shut us down. Hopefully.

Well, short of going "Lalalala! I can't hear you!" in her mind all the time, she can't not hear us out.
We just need to insist on telling her that instead of letting her distract us like last time.

[X] Agent Whiskers

Sure, once more attempt at diplomacy before Sabrina figuratively breaks down her door. I predict she will still blow us off before anything useful is said.

[X] Wait. Stop for a moment.
-[X] Give Oriko a quick call and ask her if Ono will be fine until tomorrow. If she will and you're overreacting, head back to the apartment. If she won't, then proceed as planned.

[X] To Homura: Thoughts? Prod her to talk if she seems she wants to say something, but not too much.
[X] When you find her, remotely check Ono's Gem and Seed's grief levels.
-[X] If she's fine, go home.
-[X] If she needs cleansing, ask her to meet you outside.
--[X] If she doesn't, insist and explain the dangers of Soul Gem corruption, starting with Grief Spirals, then Death.
---[X] If she still won't cooperate, warn (Apologize?) her and cleanse her Seed remotely.

I don't have much confidence that this will work, but I'm up for at least trying diplomacy one last time before knocking down her door.

But Kriemhild Gretchen? Nah. He just sits there and admires his handiwork. He's admittedly surprised by how powerful she is, but she's not something that concerns him as a power.

That wasn't Ultimate Kriemheld Gretchen. Ultimate Kriemheld Gretchen is a universe-buster according to Kyuubey. And he's still in shock from witnessing Madoka's wish at the time.

Not that I can blame his risk taking, as evolution is blind and he never had to deal with that before. His genes tell him that none of the other times his species ever risked anything turned out badly for them in the long term.

Er... yes? Ultimate Gretchen is something that cannot exist, because she's the witch of something that prevents the birth of witches anywhen in its reality. And also the witch of something that is itself a bit of a paradox.

I try to be very clear on terminology when referring to either Kriemheld Gretchen (Madoka's witch, eats the planet and immediate surroundings) or Ultimate Gretchen (Madokami's witch, probably eats reality).

Okay. I guess we're agreeing without realising it.

Don't really have time to talk but in light of the complete and clear failure to get through to her by playing nice, can we please, please, please just intervene for her own good?

There's a point where fear of gilgameshing stops being rational and starts sabotaging us and I think we've passed it. Stop playing nice and stage an intevention because whether for hurt feelings or her power, this isn't going to work and is actively burning through our credibility.

I think we should check grief levels first, before stopping, and open the new attempt at a conversation with 'this is a matter of life and death'. The first words have to be important, so she won't cut us off.

But maybe it'll work. Last chance.

Nooot so much the "gilgamesh how dare we" thing acting up and more "if we just barge in it's going to piss her off and so we should try to convince her"
Though if it doesn't work I say we secretly observe from timestop and ask Oriko if she'll be okay for the night.

One last shot at diplomacy. Although I honestly want to time stop and check to make sure she's not on the verge of witching out before we do anything else. I doubt she is on the verge, but time stop is like a security blanket for me. Makes sure nothing bad happens until we can be certain nothing bad will happen.

Just getting within 200m of Ono would be enough. No need for time stop.

-[] Telepath Megane. Patch in Mami and Homura.

-[] Now is she actually going to talk to you, or do you need to go out and find her. Because you will.
[] Find where Megane is if you haven't already. Remote cleanse if absolutely necessary.

Copy this and put in Xs if want. Got to go.

Seriously, folks? There are times I forget y'all aren't just kidding about social being SV's hard counter.

Setting the stage: SaHoMa are discussing what the heck was up with Elsa Maria and Sayaka's Kiss and...
"M-maybe..." Mami starts to say something, before trailing off with a sharp shake of her head.

"Mami?" you ask, giving her a quick hug and an encouraging smile.

She takes a deep breath, looking up at you. "Maybe it's something like a lightning rod? When y-you make a Barrier, some... Witch powers are, are, drawn in, s-somehow? L-like calls to like?"
Inside Homura's Head said:
Mami just went from 'Sabrina has grief powers' to 'Sabrina has witch powers.'

DEFCON 1. I repeat, DEFCON 1. Witchbomb launch detected!
Homura isn't just hearing chiptunes at this point. She's remembering flashes of inverted colors and seeing llama heads in the corners of her vision. She knows how this ends. And what does she do?
Homura's attention shifts to Mami. Neutral, silent, barely moving. Almost a statue, for all the emotion she's displaying, and nearly as still as everything in the frozen world of the timestop.
Nothing. Homura waits. She doesn't even draw a weapon.

Homura believes in Sabrina. She believes Sabrina can, -Oh, God! Mami's in timestop with me- and has made things better. She be-because, holy shit, she's already got a ribbon on me!-lieves Sabrina has helped Mami, and for the first time in -Oh, no. Did it just move on its own?- a subjective decade, Homura believes in Mami, too.

It's without question the most courageous thing anyone in this quest has done. I wanted to say heroic, but 'heroic' is a hard sell when you're basically cheering Homura on for not putting a bullet in the head of her friend.

Meanwhile...
Sabrina's Head said:
(at least seven pages of) Waah! Look how tense Homura is! We're losing her and she's never going to trust us again!
Aggravation level rising because if I'd just read the story-only thread I'd've been caught up instead of in the middle of the Sendai War arc.

And now I need to wander away and do anything that's else before I dive back into it.
