Is Sabrina Hitomi's friend?
We'd like to be her friend, I guess, but are we at present?
Hence my note at the beginning of 'your friends, too, if you'll let us'. Kinda gets lost towards the end admittedly, but I feel like trying to edit it in to suit might make the heartfelt gush turn a bit clunky.

Baroque's looks good. Addresses her question, and gets the pertinent information across.

[X] Well, at the core of things it's because we're their friends -- your friends, too, if you'll let us.
-[X] I can't speak for Mami and Homura, but Madoka and Sayaka found me dying -- not as a magical girl, but just a girl. I was in a pretty bad way, I won't gross you out with the details, but despite that they stayed with me and tried to help me. Hell, when Kyubey tried to get Madoka to contract to save my life, for a moment there I was worried she'd actually do it. Since then, after I contracted, they've been the best friends a girl could ask for, and it's meant a lot to me.
--[X] Of course, that's why it's important you know the whole of this rotten system -- Kyubey likes to get his contracts however he can, and the best way to keep from falling prey is knowing what he's really up to with 'em. Remember how I said he tried to get Madoka to contract? Well, he did that even though me making a contract with him would have saved my life anyways -- and as a matter of fact, it did.
---[X] So, we want you guys to at least be aware of what's up with it all, because we care about you guys; you're our friends, and that's absolutely nothing to do with all the magic in the world.
----[X] Beyond that, though, another reason we wanted to tell you about all this is that, well . . . there are at least a few perks to being a magical girl, even if they're kinda outweighed by the, well -- *rub Soul Gem noticeably* -- but one of them's healing. Part of why we wanted to let you know is that we were thinking of possibly trying to heal you, maybe Kyousuke too, with your permission.

Edit: may as well address the healing now. Edited in.
Took Baroque's line.

"Magical girls," Hitomi says, hollow disbelief in her voice. "You have magic. And t-those are your souls."

"Yes, they are," you confirm, nodding.

"And you're..." she shakes her head. "Why me? Why Madoka, and Sayaka? Why bring us into this? W-we're not... special."
What exactly is Hitomi asking here? Hitomi is a girl who has lived a normal life thus far and she is (to all appearances) content with it. Then we came barging in and telling her about magic and soul gems which more-or-less destroyed her view of the world. And when we tell her about the suicide and despair inducing monsters that we fight on a daily basis then her worldview will be even more shattered. It's the same realization that Madoka and Sayaka had after Mami died: the world was the same as it had always been, but it felt like everything had changed because now they saw it differently. In this context, Hitomi probably does not mean "special" as a good thing.

[] Being "normal" isn't enough to protect people from the monsters in the world. It's better if you know:
-[] Unexplained suicides, murders, and disappearances are often caused by reality-warping, despair-inducing monsters called witches.
-[] Magical girls like us fight witches. We're really powerful, so it's relatively safe for us (especially when we work together), but there's always a risk of injury or even death.
-[] Witches can only be seen by some, but they try to kill everyone.
-[] Warn her to be wary of sudden unexpected surges of depression - it probably means a witch is near - call us immediately.
-[] Check if Hitomi can see a grief marble and if we can telepathically contact her.
--[] If neither work: she should be grateful, she's probably not at risk from Kyuubey contracting her.
--[] If either (or both): watch out for Kyuubey.
[] Kyuubey's offer is one wish in return for becoming a magical girl and fighting witches. It's usually not worth the cost - most who make a wish end up regretting it. In our case and in Mami's case, we were dying when we made a contract, so it was worth it - but Kyuubey still hid the details from us.
-[] One detail that he hid before the contract: magic usage or negative emotions cause grief to accumulate in the soul gem, which (if not cleansed) leads to emotional instability and eventually death. Though our particular powers makes this a non-issue in our immediate vicinity.
-[] But there are also benefits: healing for example.
--[] Offer to heal Hitomi's broken arm.
--[] Mention the possibility of healing Kyousuke.

I really wanted to say that (in addition to being powerful) we're also very careful when we fight witches. But we're rarely that cautious.

Bring up healing to her too now to stop a freak out? Start healing her arm while we talk?

Boonerunner's plan sounds decent. Might wanna skip the 'Mami dying' part, though. She doesn't know that we know about that, for starters.

I'm of a mind that we should see how she takes this answer before we attempt to bring up healing. It may be a way we want to help, but it doesn't really feel terribly related to the matter at hand (Hitomi's question).

If she takes this explanation well, it could serve as a perfect opportunity to go into the healing discussion, but again I'd rather see where this gets us before trying to pitch it.

Yes, hence that coming at the end. As is, she seems about to freak out and lingering on "everything you know is a lie" is not going to have a happy ending.

I'd like to think that making it clear that we care will do a job of mitigating any 'freak out' possibilities; answering Hitomi's question in a way that makes it clear that we care (and not out of any sort of obligation, but because we're a friend), I feel will likely have a positive effect because it addresses both her question and possibly her concerns she may have (such as they are), which is why I went in that direction.

On the other hand, I'm not quite sure how the non sequitur re: healing will do anything to address such concerns as you raise, if they do happen to come up; it may be a nice thing, but it seems to me that it's not exactly changing or modifying any of what facets of what's gone on that would bring about a freakout, if anything.

Isn't this besides the point? Hitomi's not a potential.

Any vote that explains our concern about Hitomi contracting is being dishonest. We want Hitomi in the loop because it feels bad to hide something from a friend. Can we mention that?

[] Kyubey wants to keep magic a secret, but we/I don't want to keep secrets betwen friends.

The 'special' part merits an answer, too. Could tie in by mentioning that Madoka and Sayaka were offered 'contracts', something we want to avoid so they don't want to spend the rest of their lives fighting monsters for their lives.

Eh. I think we should address it now. the first part of the vote preps her well enough.

I feel it's not besides the point, because Hitomi's question isn't just about her -- it's about Madoka and Sayaka too. That Madoka and Sayaka have potential in turn reflects on Hitomi, in that she should at least know what's going on. (Besides, we've no guarantee that Hitomi will stay low-potential, I feel I should note. Coobs's system is still something of a black box to us in the regards that are relevant to that.)

We want Hitomi in the loop because it feels bad to hide something from a friend. Can we mention that?
That would be nice to bring in, but I'm not sure where it'd really fit into my write-up, alas. Any idea where I could include it?

My vote does mention this, or at least it mentions Madoka being offered it (I don't recall if Sayaka was yet offered a contract by the carbuncle).

I don't disagree that it could be good preparation for it, but I'd still rather see how she takes this before we try going into the bit about healing. It might appeal to get more things done in a single vote, but with my abominable luck I'm not about to press my luck with it.

EDIT: Perhaps it could be attached to a qualifier like 'if she seems to be taking it well' or 'if it seems like it would help to mention'?

I wonder if we'll be telling Madoka and Sayaka's folks at some point. Especially as Walpurgisnacht draws near. I feel as though it'll turn into a painful re-enactment of SQ, when everyone's parents were told what their daughters were involved in, and that they had to flee.

I agree that the potential warning seems a bit out of place. It was a flop when we tried selling it to Mami, and we definitely shouldn't recycle it here.

Frame it as that she should know rather than being in danger of becoming a contractee?

Also we really really should stress that we're not bringing Madoka and Sayaka in so much as Kyubey already tried to trick them.

I don't think we'll run into any trouble telling her about the healing right now. It is the focus of this conversation. We don't need to go too in-depth with it this vote, but we should at least bring it up so that it's relevant next vote.

From what I can gather, the conversation thus far has predominantly been about the magic system and its downsides; we may have told Sayaka we'd like to slip it in afterwards, but right now the conversation's about other things. If this bit of the conversation goes over well, though, then it'd be a good opportunity to make the venture, but it feels out-of-place and premature to me to try to bring it up in this vote, at least without some form of qualifier to keep it from being thrown in if it turns out to be a bad time for it.

If we must include it, though, I'll try to craft up something for it that brings it into the rest of the vote's tone; it'll be a moment, need to get a bit of water.

Well, pushyness aside, it's not like Sabrina's going to propose healing while Hitomi's hyperventilating or something. Sabrina actually isn't bad at reading social cues as they come.

Grief awning. Then again, perhaps that's more on us than it is on Sabrina, thinking about it. (Also, writin' now, got my mug o' water handy.)

...Not really a relvant example here. She's pretty good at cutting off social points if things go to shit. The awning is a totally different animal. We've cut off the ends of votes because the line wouldn't work a million times. Behavioral stuff is different.

Sorry, was admittedly a bad example. I'm getting a little antsy about this. (Pre-empting the Firn here, I'm already giving me my own quiddit.) Also, I think I've got something.

This look good for it? Also, changed 'you' to 'to' so that it's a bit less addressing-Hitomi-as-though-she's-at-risk-of-Coobs'-sales-pitch, noticed that was a concern raised.

Isn't this besides the point? Hitomi's not a potential.

Any vote that explains our concern about Hitomi contracting is being dishonest.
On the contrary, we don't know that Hitomi is not a potential contractee. It's something that we ought to verify one way or the other. Checking if she can see grief marbles or if we can telepathy her are two ways that I can think of. Or possibly we could make a grief device to measure potential (a visor, perhaps)?

We want Hitomi in the loop because it feels bad to hide something from a friend. Can we mention that?
Hitomi isn't our friend yet. She's Madoka and Sayaka's friend. And her question was why we brought in any of them into all of this craziness. We could say that it was Kyuubey's fault for bringing in Madoka and Sayaka, but they are our friends now even though we don't want them to contract. And that we saw that hiding things was making things awkward between our friends and Hitomi, so we decided to let her know so that there was no need for more hiding. I added this discussion to my vote.

I wonder if we'll be telling Madoka and Sayaka's folks at some point. Especially as Walpurgisnacht draws near. I feel as though it'll turn into a painful re-enactment of SQ, when everyone's parents were told what their daughters were involved in, and that they had to flee.
I have no problems with that happening. If Hitomi and Madoka and Sayaka leave before Walpurgisnacht arrives, then that's one less thing to worry about while we're fighting it.

Boonerunner's plan sounds decent. Might wanna skip the 'Mami dying' part, though. She doesn't know that we know about that, for starters.
I can't specifically remember her saying it, though I would have thought that she would have mentioned it by now (even if it was offscreen). And even if it does lead to letting her know about our meta-knowledge, well, we've been meaning to tell her about that for a while now, it's just that we haven't yet found the time to do so. The point is a bit stronger if we show that two wishes were in life threatening circumstances (rather than just one), but I can modify my vote to just mentioning our wish and not Mami's if people are concerned.

[X] Madoka and Sayaka were approached by Kyubey - that's the thing that offers contacts - because they have the potential. That's how they became involved. We had to make sure they were informed of the downsides, because Kyubey conveniently doesn't bother to mention any of the downsides.
[X] Kyubey prefers to keep magic a secret, but the five of us don't like keeping secrets from friends. Sorry for not telling you sooner.
[X] Besides, although it had a very high price, magic can do incredible things. It should be possible to heal Kyouske, or yourself.

Just proposing a much simpler version of the same points. Im not too fussed on gadjo's or even Boonerunner's points and it would be fine if they went through, but there's something to be said for simpler explanations.
