Ack, so many votes to keep track of.

Maybe someone should write a "current active votes" plugin for the forums...

Basically, Firn's vote counter, but in the forum itself, live-updating, but maybe minus the vote counter (though maybe with...)

Since Aurora now looks the same as Hildegarde and behaves similar it could very well be the normal reaction when the grief seed is emptied completely. If a third seed shows the same behaviour once we empty it completely that would confirm it. I am hoping that we can find a seed that shows a different behaviour on emptying.
Well, Mami did hand us Irene. We should probably hunt down another Witch though. It'd be rude to give Mami Irene back busted.
As to the torture thing:
If we ever want to make any more progress on reversing witchification, we don't have much choice but to mess with the seeds. We will only find out if the witch/girl even noticed us messing around with their soul, when we get to a point where we can communicate.
This is true. I really only care about being consistent in our treatment of Aurora and Hildy. Unless we decide to deliberately treat then different for the purposes of an experiment.
Hey... what if we try to make "a device that will allow Hildegard to communicate with us"?
We need to do this at some point. Probably with somebody else (parental supervision?) around in case it goes bad, but we still need to try it.

Actually, what would be cool would be an option in Firn's vote counter to automatically start counting after the last post that has a threadmark on it. Finding where to start counting votes from is always annoying.

We can use the threadmarks to find the starting post already?

Yeah, Homura standing outside our range, ready to timestop.

Hmm, I wonder if Xon (he wrote the Threadmarks plugin, right?) also made it accessible in the web API (XenForo does have a web API, right?)

We should be looking for a witch anyway to have a closer look at barriers and familiars.
If we get more seeds, we can empty a few and make a control group, while we try different treatments for the others.

[X] Muramasa

To prevent bunnycat interactions. And I suppose we're probably not going to be too successful with Grief Science if we aren't willing to do a bit of questionably ethical experimentation.

- Visit Nagisa or have her visit. (today might not be a good day though, we've serious topics to deal with re: Mami, Sayaka, Madoka)
She is a potential contractee, still.

However, I have a feeling that even with full consequences known there is high chance she would still wish to revive her mother. Plenty of people prioritize their family over the wellbeing of strangers or themselves, and she's grieving.

Nagisa, such ez contract.
Before giving the grief to Kyubey, let's try and compress some grief and put it inside a seed to see if the seed helps keep the 'compression' effect, or if the seed can only support it's normal grief compression rate. Of course, there'd be some danger that the seed may hatch if it does that when it reaches a certain amount of grief, no matter how compressed it is, so it maybe a thought for another time.
We can test it with less-than seed's worth of grief, and we wanted to observe barrier forming anyway. I say we go for it.
if Kyubey hasn't noticed her by now he probably won't be.
Given how much time we have spent with her I'd think it'd make sense that Kyubey has noticed her by now. My default assumption is that he pays attention to things he finds interesting.
We can warn her... But we might have to mention KB for that... Eh...
A quick: "Mami, you don't need to react to this." is fine, I think.
Eh, not like a wasted Kyubeybody means anything to us.
It's not Kyubeybody that would be wasted, but whatever is on the other edge.

Testing what our grief tries to coalesce into seems prudent - there are some pretty dangerous things made of grief after all.
Course, it could well be basically torture to try the experiment, so yeah, just speculation for now.
If it is torture, then we should make every damn grief seed we encounter clear - or even just Irene that we have in hand.

Besides, finding out more about witches is pretty needed at this point to make the moral question a significant matter.
There is no time when answering Kyubey's questions does us any favors, and definitely not for things he can bullshit his way out of.
Even assuming he can bullshit his way out of things like numeric answer, why would he?

You're shadowrunning.
Grief item that transcribes the target's thoughts on to paper?

Use on Kyubey while asking questions.

Might work.
If it works...Then there may be insufficient paper in the world.

-We've tried manipulating space and time. Try to make a replica of Homura's shield and see if that does anything?
I suspect that if this works it only stops time within our range.
... Why people think they can outsmart the bunnycat? You can't.
When you need to outsmart the bunnycat, you're already not having troubled relations.

And while he can and has been 'outsmarted' before by OCPs (like with MadoWish), a situation where we need to do it seems confrontational.

Even if Kyubey can't manipulate us with the answers to those questions, we would basically give him a strong, STRONG hint about what we are doing and how far along we are. Not good.
You're going to have to draw me a map why implied cooperation when we have actual cooperation and enquiring into properties of grief is bad.

I usually don't vote so soon, and I'd prefer to do SCIENCE than hand grief to Kyubey(and will vote for it, provided a vote that does it), actually. However,

[X] Kinematics

To put my vote where discussion is.
Eeeeeeeeew.

Also, you'd have to get through Sayaka and Hitomi.
We'll have to ship him with someone.

As for Sayaka and Hitomi...Not their business if Kyosuke wishes so, and it neatly cuts through a bit of the problems they experience. Even then, not quite flawless, and one can argue that (if we're willing to let Sayaka contract) Sayaka needs Kyosuke more than Mami for mental well-being.
Everybody who knows about telepathy can, when they see you stopping whatever you're doing and concentrating on staring blankly into space.
We still kept healing and are pretty good at multi-tasking.

Guess not subtle enough then.
We do have one soul gem and two grief seeds immediately available.

Hey... what if we try to make "a device that will allow Hildegard to communicate with us"?
We'd get DESPAIR, for regular witches I expect. Hildegirl...Might not respond.
:jackiechan: Pair the kid who never pays attention to his girlfriend in canon and forgets to even tell Sayaka he's out of the hospital with a girl that has crippling abandonment issues and separation anxiety?
With the power of magic (healing), he damn well should.
That still doesn't change that it can get just as much information from a non-answer to a specific question as from an answer. Any kind of Q&A session with Kyubey will not end in our favor. It is smarter than we are, and definitely has a better poker face. :p
It is not about being in favour - not at all for me. That confrontational mindset - No. It's the opposite of what is needed for even Meguca maximizer.

Kyubey has tons of information, and when it comes to grief control we can verify it with, it is entirely worth it to ask questions - not only for the benefit of questions, but for the benefit of showing that we're willing to cooperate. Even if you assume Kyubey screws us over the moment a better short-term option appears(which is not quite true, as he's not screwing over every Meguca he can with witchbomb for example), whether we're cooperating with him or killing him factors into that, for he is judging Sabrina's actions.

Or something reflecting the specifics of their witch-out. Remember the bit with Mami/Candeloro in Different Story. You think you'd get DESPAIR, or "losing track of time having fun tea parties"?
Sure, just make the mind-beaming one-side only.

Come to think of it, inside our range we could probably make telepathy devices.

No, we really don't.

If it's Kwijibo's decision and not theirs, then we have no say in it either. Also, @thagguy made a pretty good point about Kwijibo being a terrible boyfriend.

Yeah. There's so much wrong with the Lement suggestions that I don't even know where to start. The Kyousuke situation is bad enough with us trying to defuse the Hitomi/Sayaka/Kyousuke mess, without us INTENTIONALLY bringing Mami's issues into it and exposing them to the series' poster child for inadvertently getting friends killed. Mami needs friends, not more trauma and suffering.

Also, the Nagisa shadowruns don't make sense when the only one we saw capable of resurrection in canon was Madoka.

Reviving the dead probably isn't that hard, considering Kyubey can offer 'any wish' and reviving loved ones is something basically everybody wants. At the very least, Madoka is capable of resurrecting a dead cat back in timeline 1 when she isn't anyone special.

She still had high base potential, I think?

@Krecart: If we don't but in, then he will ship himself.

On the other hand, you do have a point in agency. Taking decisions out of others' hands again.

I kinda want to test Phoenix Down or the like, regarding revival. I bet it would revive the dead, but only inside our range - would need to work with Rin or Yuma to make this one stick.
Why would we care? Let him find someone that is happy being with him, given his foibles. His real love is music, anyway.
Expect he will find Hitomi or perhaps Sayaka, 'cue the issues with spiraling and divide.

Really, Homura handed us a convenient out.

...unclear if cats have souls. If yes, then reviving the dead is a thing.

If no, then it doesn't mean much.

That's not consistent with Kyubey's rules and evaluation. He describes karmic destiny as being basically measured by how much despair you would be responsible for in your normal lifetime, and Madoka's existence is so carefree and ordinary that she shouldn't of been special at all. Timeline 1 Madoka was probably around Sayaka-tier, if slightly higher. Certainly not Mumi-tier.

Animals have emotions, they damn well better.

Also creating NEW SOULED BEINGS OUT OF NOTHING with a wish is totally valid, so.

No. This is a terrible, awful plan on every level. She isn't in a headspace where she can reasonably pursue a relationship; even if she were, it's not our place to drive her into one, and violin-boy would still be a bad idea.
The disruptive effects of Hitomi or Sayaka going after him are likely manageable at this point. The obvious way to get him healed is to either cooperate or call in a dedicated healer from elsewhere, since we're on reasonable terms with two.

Thinking about space warping. We tried and failed. What we tried was making a hollow tube of grief and willing it to be bigger on the inside, Sabrina noting that the air inside a Barrier is normal air.

What if the air inside a barrier is normal air... That got inside after the Barrier was formed?

Instead of making a hollow tube of grief, make a solid stick of grief and will the inner part of the grief stick to become expanded space?
