"Miss Tsubaki?" you reach out for telepathy as you settle into a seated position, Mami immediately cuddling into your side. Kirika's settled behind you, snoozing happily again.

Huh. I guess our report to the UG happened in the background?

If possible, I'd like to drop by Oriko's place a bit early. She still has Gwen (I think), and the seed's probably full. Don't want that hatching on the two, or getting the seed fed to QB.

Speaking of the bastard catrabbit, we might want to offload some of our fuckton-o-grief that we don't neded. We probably have 2-4 full seeds worth of it flying around, and we don't need that much for whatever grief SCIENCE we're planning for today. Maybe when Mami's at school, and one seed's worth should be enough.

Another item is that we should check up on both Sendai groups. Check on Rin to see if there are any changes on Akiko's status, and on Chouko to see if they were able to reconnect with their families without a hitch.

Things to adress in the near future now that we have time before the next disaster derails everything:
  • Our talk with Mami
You sigh. "We need to talk tomorrow morning," you say.

    "OK," Mami agrees.
  • get Mami some emotional support that isn't Sabrina
  • Updating Homura in detail
  • Tell Masami and Kyouko that the war is over for now (Ishinomaki as well, if UG didn't already) (Did we ever make our grief cleanse offer to Masami and her friend? I can't remember)
  • Apologize to Oriko
  • Grief SCIENCE
  • Check on UG and Sendai
Edit:
  • Do something about Sayaka (and Madoka) to stop them from contracting

Sonnuva bitch.

I blame today. My Friday timetable is brutal, and this entire update was written on my phone.

Fixed.
Updated epub can be downloaded here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/8057mccpehm9uu9/Puella_Magi_Adfligo_Systema,_Bo_-_Firnagzen.epub

Note that I'll start new, well, book for the next part.
You're awesome.

"Mami, I. Every time you tell me not to do something. You, I. I ignore it, and I can't imagine it's easy to see me go into all these, these messes," you say.

"Sabrina," she says gently. "You wouldn't be you if you didn't do what you thought was the right thing. I'm sorry for asking that you stop. Because you care, Sabrina, and that's nothing to be ashamed of."
Fucking. Called. God. Damn. Shit. Agh.

She's comforting us. That's just about the opposite of the optimal outcome.

It occurs to me that Kirika can also cleanse seeds in a roundabout way. Since she can pwn witches she can just let them hatch and kill them. Might have problems with Gwen, though. We should replace O&K's seeds with some easy witches so they can hatch and kill them in case we can't cleanse them first.

...

Well, how about a nice traditional good morning to everyone during breakfast? It's been so long since last time... Like, an entire day long.

"Mami, allow me to show you whole new world. Kyubey? Actually a traitorous little shit who's been lying to you since you were a little kid. Soul Gems? Literally your soul! You aren't even technically alive anymore, you're a lich! Witches? Actually fallen magical gir- oh wait, shit. I hadn't told you that yet had I-" *gunshot*

Really does put a whole new spin on the scene.
We need a 'Romantic' (pierced heart) rating.

Well, I really want breather episode, this time, but I'm kinda worried with the title...

/me sighs.
It could mean that our reputation has exceeded our expectations and news of our powers have spread far and wide that many Megucas will be flocking to Mitakihara to find us.

Or maybe some Megucas took interest on us by observing the HUGE war from a distance [/baseless guesses]

[]Wake up a bit earlier than usual.
-[]Eastern breakfast for the Mumi. Tea for the Mumi. If she wakes up, try and persuade her to get some rest...but if that doesn't work, make it together?
-[]Ask her what she'd like to do today. Does she feel okay with going to school today? She shouldn't feel that she has to, but does she want to?
[]Ping Homura and let her know what's happening now- and what happened. The war ended. No one died. The groups are more or less at peace and we're going back to cleanse later. We "won".
[] Madoka, and Sayaka. If Mami went to school, ask them not to bother Mami too much. She had a rough day. We promise to explain everything, soon, but for now, they should just stay away from Kyubey if they see him.
[]Good morning to Oriko and Kirika. Thanks for the help yesterday. Do they mind if we swing by later? (Hold off on promising healing until we've run it by Mami)
[]If she didn't go to school and if she asks...tell her the truth like we said we were going to the night before. There are things we haven't told her yet. Some of them aren't just ours to tell, some of them we're not too sure about ourselves, and some of them we're not even sure how to talk about. But she deserves to know, and we promise that we will tell her everything as soon as we've figured out how. It's...complicated.

What would've been optimal?
Your stomach squirms uncomfortably. She believes in you. She believes in you with a purity that almost... it shines, just as much as she said you do.
This is kind of terrifying, honestly.

We really need to tell her that we haven't been entirely honest with her. It's gonna be so much worse if we put it off much longer.

What would've been optimal?
That she had at least considered our words could be true, instead of willingly ignoring that possibility due to her fears. We're trying to take the blame for our actions and she doesn't let us. She laid the blame on herself to try and make us feel better. We're not supposed to feel better about it until the problem's acknowledged and dealt with.

"can nearly see the golden eyes framed with flowing pink hair."

italics mine. This was immediately after we tunnel visioned on Kyubey's eyeballs...so our mental state was pretty suspect. The point is, that isn't nearly as certain as you're making it out to be. It's suggestive yes, but nothing more.
There was a second hint, that lead us to assume Madoka's wish created us to 'fix things'.
"I, ah," your eyes dart between Mami and Homura as you take a slow step forward to interpose yourself between them. Behind Mami, Madoka slowly wilts in on herself, now just clutching her hands to her chest. She's staring at you, hoping you'll be able to resolve this entire situation. Why?

Staying with either of them would let you change so much, but you just can't decide whom you'd rather stay with. You consider suggesting a timeshare, but then you realize that you'd be imposing rather heavily on the both of them.
Of course, it's just a hint. It may acquire more meaning in the future, if we learn more about our origins.

Quite honestly, I find this idea of an absolute morality disturbing. Sabrina JUST apologized for forcing her opinions on everyone else, and here you've just laid out how Mami is supposed to think and feel.

What was the point of that vote if we're going to keep doing this?

Okay, we're back.

Here are some thoughts for next few updates.
  • Wake up earlier, make breakfast.
    • [What is tasty?]
  • Wake up Mami, mention the whole secrets things.
    • [Time to dig up wording]
  • Send Mami off to school. Meanwhile...
    • [Grief Science]
  • After school, organize a tea party so you, Oriko, Kirika, Homura can talk about Sendai. Precogs gonna precog.
    • Though tea party about magical girls isn't a bright idea, there has got to be way we can use this to dissuade a wish.
  • In the evening, seek out Kyoko for martial arts and update on Oriko+Sendai.

@landcollector: Pick one:
  1. Would you say it is so wrong in a collapsing universe it becomes right?
  2. He's a striking and horrifying character, is he not?
  3. Comparing that idea to Jack Slash accurately represents my feelings on the matter.

Absolute morality? What? I'm proposing a somewhat 'optimal' outcome, a healthy outcome. What Mami's doing? It's completely unhealthy, if we allow her to take the blame for our actions we're just exacerbating the problem.

What's the point of apologizing if the apology can't be accepted?

This is why I was in the 'don't apologize just yet' part of the thread before this update. Mami literally couldn't accept our apology. She needs time to accept that we could be in the wrong before she's ready to forgive us for anything.

EDIT: To clarify, some progress was done. We knew this would take a long time, and we didn't push the issue too much. Now, Mami knows Sabrina thinks she's done bad things, that's something.

... She's not taking the blame for anything here. She just doesn't think we should be beating ourself up about taking control of the situation.

Look at it from her perspective. Her fears about it being a trap were unfounded. There was a direct, immediate risk of it turning into a bloody mess, just as feared. We could and did resolve it, quickly, neatly and without deaths, just as hoped.

Mami's not taking the blame for anything. She's very explicitly stating that we shouldn't blame ourselves. The difference in meaning is massive, and the idea that there's some sort of specific way that she's supposed to feel about the situation strikes me as alarming. Frankly, she's right. It's in our nature to try to save everyone. That's just the way this quest works and the way we, as players work. Are we to deny our own nature and reject our own self? Because if anything, THAT would be unhealthy.
