I think we've already seen instances where it could be dangerous to us. We just haven't tried anything too monumentally stupid.
Only time we've seen Grief under our control do anything other than what we told it to was when we left a cloud of it on that piece of rebar.

I'm not even sure that counts as control since we sort of just left it do whatever while we did some other experiments.

Oh, and our wings, I guess. Those just sort of want to happen.

Admittedly, not relevant right now, but I felt the need to point it out.

Just to be clear on this, we are apologizing for the way we acted in this affair, not that we went out and intervened in this incident, right? Because, while our methods may leave something to be desired, I don't think anyone can seriously argue that things would have turned out for the better had we holed up in Mitakihara and let things play out on their own.

I think the question of sleeping has come up in the past.

Something something disconnect normal functions something magic something something profit.

But we stuck with sleep anyways.

So, effectively, I don't know. We don't know whether we need sleep or not. That's for the science list, I guess.
That... is a fair point. We would probably be capable of pushing ourselves past extreme sleep deprivation the same way we push ourselves through extreme pain. However, mental fatigue is a thing, and not sleeping might worry Mami.
And it would be uncomfortable to stay awake while being used as a pillow for hours on end.

We could apologize for dragging her into this mess knowing she would not be able to refuse, but not for actually doing the good things we've done.

No matter what...it's never wrong to want to save people.
The how and why perhaps, and the methods used...but I wouldn't apologize for the act itself.

Our body is hardware. We must abuse the fuck out of this fact.

We should see if Homura has any insights on how far you can push a meguca's chassis body and maintain functionality.

Assuming we don't, think of all the time we'd save if we could cut out sleep completely.

...actually, didn't Homura basically pass out from exhaustion at Mami's during the Oriko hunt? She can presumably deal with her eyesight and heart issues, but not fatigue?

Would be useful to find out how many inconvenient bodily functions we can switch off.

Remember how we had that whole debate about how even if we manage to restore Hildegard to sanity, she might not have any memory of her life prior to becoming a witch? This actually cuts right to the heart of that problem. Can a soul gem be used as a substitute to the brain in the event that the brain has been knocked out of commision, such as when subjected to extreme fatigue? If so, there would probably be a copy of the mind engraved into the soul gem, which increases the chances of Hildgarde, and the other witches for that matter, being restored to sanity.

We kind of already lectured Homura on the need to sleep from time to time. Probably not a good habit to pick up ourselves.

If the megucas think they're human, then human limits apply to them? Basically, since magic is instinctive, and the megucas keep their human instincts, they're giving themselves human limits.

Sabrina's got little problem dealing with physical pain, since she knows to ignore it.

Maybe we could pull it off.
