Honestly, the last line reminded me of the fact that, other than Rin, we haven't met a single other magical girl that hasn't been aware of the lichbomb, at least from their lack of reaction to our stealing soul gems as a means to shut down the enemy. (Well, Ishinomaki is iffy, but they struck me as being sufficiently knowledgeable about such things.)

That means that Mami was very nearly the last person (actually, we didn't tell her until after the Rin bomb, right?) to know of the lichbomb secret, and that's probably going to weigh on her as well.

*Attempts to imagine Mami being mad at Sabrina*
*PMAS-predictor.exe has shut down*
Wow, this is hard.
That woud be part of the problem, yes.
And also, more tetris.
Gonna be real confusing when we tell Mami we need to talk about important matters and we pull out an old console and start playing.

What if some of them don't actually know and think: 1) We have magical sleep powers, 2) We really are crazy. Who starts a jewelry collection in the middle of a battle? And what a collection!

@Ugolino: Yes. Which is why acknowledge that they are secrets, not simply things she doesn't know, and I guess it is sinister?

That said, it can and should probably be phrased better. Honesty good, sinistry bad.

@Kinematics: PMAS without traumatizing Mami is like Sabrina without saving people thing; it adds (traumatizing) flavour.

Eh, sure. Just that using "things" struck me as sleazy and vague where accuracy is possible.

Actually, I think this can wait for next update, so no hurry. We didn't get Sendai and start talking to Akiko in one go.

Mmm... Muramasa's vote's got a "-" before the second line, and it calls to go home three times. That makes it inherently superior to the Cannon vote.

Gonna be real confusing when we tell Mami we need to talk about important matters and we pull out an old console and start playing.
"Where did you even get that old thing?!"

"Grief powers... Actually, it was really easy to make it for some reason. It was like my magic just wanted to be shaped just so..."

Lots of good discussion here, liking the Mami confrontation direction that's being worked on.

A point that's bugged me though is the physical time we're doing this. It's close to midnight, we're an hour (or more) away from home, and Mami has school tomorrow. Can we make unwinding conversation and tea in time to sleep at a reasonable hour without wrecking the next three day's sleep cycles?

I don't know that I would want to do much of any emotional bonding after 11 PM. Assuming that it's as late as it seems, she may just want to go to bed.

With the understanding that this comes after the detailed apology, which would be the update after this one (to allow for unexpected reactions to the current vote), I'd probably phrase it something like:

[] I haven't been trusting you enough. I don't want to hurt you, particularly after how things went after I explained Soul Gems to you, but not trusting you, not believing in you, is wrong.
[] There are secrets I've been keeping — some are my own, and some belong to others — that I didn't feel you'd be ready to hear. But it's not my place to make that choice for you.
[] If you really want to know, I'll tell you now. But if you'll trust me, I'll try to tell you when it seems ok to do so.

Note that I'd need to go back to the Soul Gem reveal to see what was said back then before being sure that this phrasing is ok.

We really, really, really aren't ready to tell Mami the truth though. That last line seems like a bad call if she does want to know, since we don't want to tell her now.

I'm onboard with Kinematics' general idea of apologizing and explaining we've been hiding things from Mami, and that wasn't right, and part of that was we didn't know how and part of it was we were afraid to.

Open up with a 'safe' secret, like "Well, um...I know some things before they happen. It's not like Oriko's power, it's like I woke up with all this stuff programmed in my head. I knew who you were before I even saw your face. I...also knew what you wished for. I knew what Homura wished for. I know what Sayaka WOULD wish for, if she were to choose to. It's not perfect, but it's there. Part of why I trusted Oriko so much, and tried to resolve things non-violently, is that I already knew so much about her.

....For the record, everything about today was a huge blank spot. It doesn't really extend beyond Mitakihara much. I wasn't sure how to tell you, because how do you explain to your best friend that you have their whole life as an open book, along with some of their possible futures, and have nothing to give in return?

...And...there's more. More secrets that are much, much, much harder to share. Some I probably have no right to tell you. And I don't know why I even know them...and I'm afraid. I'm afraid of what they might do to you, because they could be much worse than...

But that wouldn't be trusting you. And I trust you. I WANT to trust you. I trust you with my life. With my soul. So it's your choice, if you want to hear what I have to say. But if you say no, today, you can change your mind any time."

Okay that got a bit long, the write-bunny got away with me. But I think we can drop our weird meta-knowledge as a lead-in, and might be something she could placate herself with. Like, "Wow, that's a lot to take in and I'm tired as fuck, other shit can wait."

What's important is if she feels like she has a ticket she can cash in any time; that her ignorance is entirely voluntary and not something borne of distrust. Believe me, for a lot of people, this works. It'll allow her to adjust her worldview at her own pace without feeling betrayed.

I don't know what's worse:

Telling her we don't think she can handle the truth, and that we have been hiding things from her in fear of causing her harm, which will make her feel weak and useless.

Or,

Telling her we don't want to tell her some things. While this is better in the sense that we're not promising to tell things we won't tell, it's kind of... Not nice.

Hm. I don't think anything about this conversation requires timestop. Certain aspects of some secrets might, but that could be dealt with as needed.

I just realized.., when was the last time we ate? Did we have anything during the botched negotiations? Might want to add a really late dinner to the vote.

@Kinematics
More importantly- we're not ready to talk about most of these secrets with Mami yet. Witchbomb? NOPE. Homura's loops and Madoka dying? Not our place to bring it up without running it by Homu first. Foreknowledge? That's about the only thing we can tell Mami right now more or less safely and even then...

@Ompa60
Pretty sure eating when hungry's an automatic action. :p

Also, amusing idea.

Book of coupons for 'secrets' that Mami can redeem at her own discretion:

1) Sabrina [expanded knowledge]
2) Homura (requires consent)
3) Oriko (requires consent, Homura secrets)
4) Kyouko (requires Sabrina secrets)
5) The world of magical girls [witchbomb] (prerequisite for some other secrets; might need timestop)
6) *special* [Madoka] (requires timestop)
