Earthling: So you guys have a constitutional monarchy.
Ymaryn: Yes.
Earthling: So that mean you have a Royal family and everything, right?
Ymaryn: Uh......no. I mean, technically yes. But your assumption about how our monarchy actually work is actually all wrong.

Earthling: Wait, so you mean your "King" is elected amongst a host of wealthy traders and landed patricians?
Ymaryn: Uhuh.
Earthling: Then it's not a monarchy.
Ymaryn: Uh... yes it is?
Earthling: Dude, your political system is like two steps down from being a legit oligarchy.
Ymaryn: No, its a monarchy.
Earthling: Argh...

Actually, the concept is hardly without precedent IRL: Elective monarchy - Wikipedia

I was imagining a more modern kingdom, but yeah, it's pretty much accurate.

Also, Ymaryn calling their ruler "King" no matter if it's a man or a woman.

Ymaryn: She's a king.
Earthling: No, she's not. She's a queen.
Ymaryn: *shrugs* Same difference.
Earthling: Ugh.

Not going to matter too much to normal people.

Anyways... I'm going to make a new coalition, which is separate from a party because it's literally just trying to get people together to do something not form an ideologically unified group.

THE INFINITE EXPANSION

WE NEED to FINALLY ASSIMILATE OUR LANDS UNDER OUR RULE!!! Having Vassals is great, but so long as we own land that we don't actually land we are getting half or less of the potential benefits! We're missing out on actions, leaving the poor and weak out in the cold, without the warmth of our fire! We must spread our culture of charity and diligence throughout all the lands who live beneath our banner!

WE WANT
To finally integrate the Thunder Twins so they can't break away with our technology!
To finally integrate Gulvalley, so we can start our canal!
To begin integrating the Txolla when possible and as needed!
To integrate the Western Wall as possible!

WE WILL

Dedicate ourselves to building a road every turn!
Dedicate ourselves toward Influence Subordinate actions on those most different or most likely to break away!
Dedicate ourselves toward Integrate Subordinate actions when no ACTUALLY pressing matters prevent it!

Sounds like a fine idea! :D
(I actually want all the same things btw)

Not sure I want to actually join in but I have no problems with it existing so long as it doesn't get annoying, as it is with most things on this forum.

Seems like a pretty single-issue political party, but sign me up!!

Mmmm, going by what Umi is saying it's more like a Union or Guild or group meant to get one thing done. *shrug*

I mean me and him have basically the same desires and ideas of how to get it done so I figure "Frickin cool dude!", but I don't feel the need to do anything all official like.

I mean, it's not as though there are actually parties and party affiliations in the thread, so there's not really much of a difference between saying "this is cool" and "I want to join you in this" anyways.

I literally just want us to integrate the vassals and for people to officially declare their shared desire to do so.
It's somewhat like a "land-grab party" or an "anti-slavery party" in its specificity, but I would call those "parties" coalitions to distinguish them from the broader ideological groupings that form from the permutations of co-membership in different parties.

if you had to call this a party it would be like the "consolidation party"

In a way, yeah. But the parties people have declared are more like "our approach to all issues trends toward x; we care more about issues a, b, c than d; approach k to issue j is anathema to our cause; here is a picture I found and liked."
I.e., multifaceted and thus weaker.

Which is a good point.

Great point and explanation Umi. I really want our vassals influenced and integrated yesterday.

E: Beh, I feel the urge to roll dice again. What shall happen in the next update O Runes of Doomiest Doom?

Low numbers today. Well the first is really high which is bad, but the other two are super low so the specificity and detail will be low.
BungieONI threw 1 4-faced dice. Reason: Runes of Doomiest Doom Total: 4
4 4
BungieONI threw 1 10-faced dice. Reason: Runes of Doomiest Doom Total: 2
2 2
BungieONI threw 1 21-faced dice. Reason: Runes of Doomiest Doom Total: 6
6 6

I'm strongly against destroying all our subordinates. Subordinates are very useful.

I'm strongly in favor of expansion, we just need to tie that expansion in with a maintenance of our periphery state count.

For reference, which numbers constitute bad things, @BungieONI?
Well to sort of explain the Runes:

They are me having fun for little seriousness. That said they are based on a mistake I made while copying the Tarot for which numbers to use for dice. The Tarot has Four Suits, thus the first dice of the Runes has four "faces". In each Suit is fourteen cards, which I mistakenly wrote as "ten" during the first roll of the Runes and decided to stick with it. Then there is a final fifth "trump" suit of 21 cards in the Tarot and so the final dice of the Runes have 21 faces.

Generally the first rule is "High numbers are bad". The second rule is "Intuition is Ruler".
The first dice is a very general scale used in answering the question "Will something bad happen?"
The second is a more specific roll determining the answer to the question "How close will it get to us?"
The third is the most specific roll which answers the question of "How bad is it going to be?"

So from 4, 2, 6 we can say something bad will happen to someone, that someone will not be close to us, and it will not be a very bad thing.

Man this is really fun, i really imagine a Ymar priest rolling dice on the road and explaining the Alea of people.
And if this is true, i imagine they giving the "murder look" at people playing betting games with dice.

Hah! Yeah I can too. (Well sorta. They are probably mostly okay with dice betting games up to a certain point, but for some priests who specialize in this kinda thing yeah they'd have issue with it)

Speaking of the "murder look" it's been brought up enough times I think we need to find an actual picture.

So I updated the chart in the last few days. Suffice to say, the destruction of our momentum was horrendous due to RL interference and stuff.

Anyway, the Ymaryn apparently do not believe that naked ambition for clay was in any way particularly "noble". In other societies, might make right, thus Right of Conquest. It is only in the last century that international norms guaranteed the right of sovereign integrity.

We may want to codify that into international norm as soon as we are able to, though this may conflict with our desire to gain access to the sea. However, conquest is only one way to gain clay.

Well, no, sovereignty was guaranteed since Westphalia, for a given value of guaranteed. Not that things are too different now, though.

why do people believe in signs that aren't rooted in the entrails of birds?

Territorial integrity, and it is guaranteed by the United Nations and became international norm after WW2. War of aggression was defined in the Conventions for the Definition of Aggression in the 1930s.

Of course, they can be and had been violated.

But it doesn't mean that those norms are non-existent and that they don't have real effects and that we made no progress in fostering a more peaceful world.

Edit: And arguably the war with the Khemetri ended in a social development for the Khemetri even if the lesson is don't challenge a people you don't know anything about, and the Games was supposed to foster international relation and brotherhood...until we screwed it up.
