@Academia Nut

I assume that you won't do another update tonight, having just post an update hours ago. Tomorrow night is when we can expect the next update to drop, right?

Onto another matter: we might got to war with the Metalworker kingdom and their pet nomads, assuming that they're willing to haul ass all the way down. We might get better boats, so we could send in a raiding force to attack them at home.

I do wonder if a trade mission with the Metal Worker will allow us some measure of peace. A salt gift?

Salt gift might work. The Nomad Son is probably dead now so there is a lot of the hate they had for us removed.

Caves only form in limestone, which tends to form very fang-like stalactite and stalagmite formations, especially around new tunnels.
Ooo, now we know where to loot for rocks to burn with the iron!

Kidding, those caves are valuable cultural heritage and a nice place to study acoustics, but there should be other limestone hills in those areas.
Didn't we withdraw from all contact with everyone for like a generation?
-New Insights - When we cut trade ties with everyone. This was 24 updates ago, more than 10 generations(we have approximately 50% mid turn updates) and more than 200 years ago
-Harmony in Law - Told the Highlanders to fuck off.
-Healing Magic - Sent emissaries to tell everyone how to not shit themselves to death. Recieved Xohyssiri Book of the Living.
-New Ventures - Established trade to the Xohyssiri.
-The salt must flow - Salt Gift, Metal Worker Trade Mission
-Dreams of Bureaucrats - Xohyssiri Trade ended by war.
-Perculiar Results - Metal Worker Trade Mission
-Calm before the Storm - Metal Worker Trade ended by Suddenly Nomads
-New Connections - Unknown Trade Mission arrives
-Quiet Tensions - Xohyssiri Trade Mission arrives

So...we've been receiving traders, but we've not been trading actively(in the sense of outgoing caravans) with anyone but the Metal Workers and Xohyssiri for a very long time. The only diplomatic contacts were outside coming in, except for the one time we drove by and dropped shitloads of wealth everywhere.
So, you're telling me that one of the most important beliefs of the people, a belief that was established after writing became widespread among the shamans, is not written down? Somewhere?

Also, yes it is possible for our test group to 'get lucky' but read this abstract:
https://www.researchgate.net/publication/249962585_The_Infectious_Dose_of_Variola_Smallpox_Virus

What this basically says is that a single viral particle can cause an infection. Smallpox is rediculously infectious. The likelihood of someone not catching the virus if they've never been inoculated with vaccinia or haven't had a booster in a long time is extremely low.
Actually, it's precisely because we think they're important that we never actually wrote them down. Our shamans think something so important can't possibly be forgotten or remembered wrongly, after all, it worked for them!
I mean, yeah, trade is good for this situation and all...

But doesn't salt gift also include sending trade caravans to all the major players? Only instead of haggling over dyes and salt, we just hand out salt like candy.

The mingling with lowlanders part still applies
Salt gifts send caravans to their kings and nobles primarily to impress them. Those are not usually the pox heavy population portions.

What exactly is behind the idea of the secondary trade missions to both the HK and the TH? What are the Ymaryn thinking? Are they hoping to deter a war from happening?

On the principle I want to prevent war and make them less warlike, and pragmatically, I want them divided and more trade. The Xoh dudes were a good example of how we gained new technology.

@Academia Nut I don't see anything about chinampas on the technology list. Do we have to build them manually? How do we ensure that we don't lose the technology we just gained?

Also, how many lakes do we have in the northern provinces? Would it be feasible if we could build a canal to connect all of them?

@Academia Nut is there a reason that western wall didn't try and fort up this turn because they really need to get started on making their area defensible before Metal Nomads come for round 2.

Nein! Feline kind is my domain! Your domain are fish, thus of lower rank than humans!
Hmmm these are both good...

But I think hippos are the cutest and the derpiest.

Observe.

They built towers in <Quiet tensions>. I think they have it handled though and know what they are doing.

Through a combination of new chariot design, faster horses, and an abundance of iron weaponry, the two most imperiled provinces had smashed several tribes attempting to move into areas adjacent to their territory, and were currently cowing the survivors into submission.

Strange that people voted to send trade mission to HK and TH. I thought we wanted to keep the lowlands in chaos? Ah well, chance of cultural and tech insights wouldn't go amiss.

Well they'll get into another scrap even if we do this now. Their cultures won't allow anything else, and all this is, is a delaying action. At least that is how it is in my mind.

hippos are horrifying water demons
I know! Aren't they adorable killing machines! :V

Or you are assuming all the nomads are a single polity which has the same traits.
Was thinking of the Lowlanders which that post from AN also related to.

All we care are people who have smallpox, so we can successfully complete the challenge and hopefully not destroy the Sacred Warding megaproject we completed.

It's unfortunate if they started a war, because it means we'll have to break trade relation with the lowland so we can focus on the Metal Kingdom and their pet nomads.

[X] This is a step too far (Challenge continues one last turn)

Trade missions are important this turn. The Lowlands clusterfuck seems to be heating up soon, so we need the intel, no matter if we plan on trying to grab a slice for ourselves or not.

Main provinces to lessen cultural drift by the Stallions.

Step too far won't win, but I like the mystery box.

Hmm I wonder where the metal nomads(Yes that is what I am calling them now) will attack they could attack overland but that seems unlikely because they must know by now about the new march if I were them I would go by boat to the shore provinces and attack from there.

They probably don't have the boat tech. We do, and we could raid them by sea.
