I honestly feel that the quest did not ever get easier and that the hivemind's planmaking skills never really improved unless there's structural changes.

During the early stages of the quest most decision making was based on surviving the next days, sometimes even just the next minutes. And that was reflected in how the plans were made.

It has been only recently that the quest actually allowed for longer term planning with Hazou becoming the de-facto Clan Head. The time we were in Leaf before that didn't really count either because Leaf was neither safe nor did we have freedom to do what we want even under those constraints because of Jiraiya.

So it makes absolutely sense why the transition from short-term to long-term planning would have some teething issues. I feel given more time we could made the transition. Maybe.

Of course none of that really applies to the winning plan anyway, I'm afraid to say. There was stuff that in there that should have been caught and corrected. But unfortunately it was not. I tried to point out some of it but I don't know if it came too late or was discarded for other reasons entirely.

I am also pretty bummed out that my planned omake(s) are going to make absolutely no sense if Hazou dies but whatcha gonna do.

P.S.: Does anyone know of other popular quests that ended due to IC player decisions as opposed to QM burnout, insurmountable rules/lore complications, lack of players or simply running its course?

That's a hard one to really quantify, because should you count quests where the QM was actively and admittedly trying to get the PC killed? Or ones where the player decisions led places the Admins brought out the "Nope." hammer? Or ones where the initial goal was never actually achievable to begin with? Etc.

I don't think we've really needed long term plans, although we do need long term planning. The most recent example is the SINs mission which could have been time better spent elsewhere.

Alright, I'm interested. What kind of quests have actively hostile QMs??

So, what should the mechanics for the Soulstealer bloodline actually be under the new system? I reckon it would be the most fun to play with if the conditions were specific and stringent enough, that they couldn't be easily gamed. So our character would need to plan things very carefully to be able to steal the soul of a recently deceased person, or rely on allies to keep them safe, which would open up some awesome inter-party dynamics. Thoughts?

Just make a Thinker bloodline. Maybe a precog, such that the QMs can justify chiming in and say that they think our plan is risky or something.

You guys up for building a statue for Mari if she manages to turn things around? :V

Without telling anyone IC about the reason we are doing it, naturally.

When Hazo drops the ball next update my interpretation is that Keiko was right, Kazo has suffered too much instances of brain damage and needs to be confined to his bed.

For a while, the hivemind used "check with team" as safety blanket. Now it seemed that we really do warrants safety blankets every plan.

Poll: Will you continue to play if Hazo dies?

Hug for yes. Like for no.

Edit: I am told that it wouldn't be a good poll for various reasons.

Do you think anyone here cares enough about failure to consistently do that?
We never stopped warranting safety blankets.

That's not really the issue here though, is it?

I don't want to call out anyone or make them feel bad for how they voted because in the end we are all here to have fun, so take this as the speculation it is:

To me it looked like there had been an underlying sentiment of the thread votes being too cautious and not taking enough risks. Some of that was expressed implicitly, some of it explicitly.

Then there is also the fact that nothing irreversibly bad has actually happened to Team Uplift in a while.

With both of these in mind, it seems there was some overcompensation to the other extreme. And clearly there were enough voters that must have felt the same or @Kiba's plan would have won since this wasn't a particularly low turn-out vote this time, either.

I still blank as to why some of the more egregious parts were not caught even by those that did like the idea of taking more risks, though.

That said, we don't actually know if Hazou will die or that we cannot come back from this. And while it's going to be awkward to read his family (justifiably!) chew him out for being too reckless, I'd gladly read that instead of seeing the people I grew to like die or shift out of focus due to having a new PoV MC.
