Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

So ... I have been reading some of my old favourites in terms of books and I stumbled onto something....

Discworld Animated Movies.

God damn those were cool and it got me wondering if, maybe, we could make movies based on Discworld Books.

There is so much to work with!

From Equal Rites (which is frankly a hilarious look at wizard stereotypes and a show of their subversion) to even some of the first discworld books like the color of magic which has the makings of a trilogy just from the sheer breadth of content involving the adventures of the clueless tourist and the wizard with only a single spell which he cannot even cast.

Seriously though, Discworld is made for animation.

Thoughts?
Fun Fact: At one point, Disney was considering doing an animated movie based on Mort. It fell through due to rights issues, though. (Apparently, the Discworld rights are a package deal for the whole series and that was a bit too much investment for the Mouse House.)

Niiiiiice!

Package deal for the whole series? A series chock full of amazing tales and hilarious stories each of which can make for an amazing animated movie if not more?

Heck there is even a Conan reference... TWO of them even.

Movie Pitch: Gamera: Advent of Legion
Of the Gamera movies, I have to say that the second one is a clear improvement over the first. It just has that whole...something, that makes it truly special. Perhaps it's the fact that the monster is more terrifying than Gyaos, or perhaps it's that the whole situation feels a bit more grounded than the previous film...and this one has alien silicone-based lifeforms trying to consume glass in order to launch spores into space to reproduce, which will destroy the Earth!

Yeah, something tells me that might not be it.

Anyways, the movie is fun, and it keeps you rooting for Gamera the entire time. The human characters are likeable, the Kaiju fights are impressive, and the final scenes are just amazing in and of themselves. Besides, there is some message about keeping the Earth safe, yet unlike previous Godzilla films, this one is actually subtle, and it's left to the end of the film.

Thus, I give you:

Movie Pitch:
Gamera: Advent of Legion

GENRE: Kaiju/Action/Horror

SUBGENRE: Fantasy/Drama

FORMAT: Japanese Movie

Set Up: Based on the character owned by Daiei films, this movie is a sequel to the reboot of the franchise. One year after the battle between Gamera and Gyaos, Japan is invaded by a race of insect-like, silicon-based alien life forms dubbed "Legion", that attempt to make Earth their new home. Gamera must now return to Japan in order to defeat the aliens, yet this time his foe may be more than he can handle, as the aptly titled "Legion" many bodies have both the numbers, and the power to bring an end to all life on the planet.

Director: Kazuki Ōmori
Composer: Koichi Sugiyama

Lieutenant Colonel Watarase: He is a JGSDF Chemical School Officer. The man at the front in finding out Legion's weaknesses and just what exactly it is. he is a brave dedicated man who is willing to lead from the front and protect the people of Japan. During the film he gains an appreciation and respect for Gamera, as well as the friendship of Midori and Obitsu.

Played By: Toshiyuki Nagashima
Alternate: Ken Ogata

Midori Honami: She is a curator at the Sapporo Science Center. Always cool under pressure, she never hesitates to do the right thing, even when it puts her in danger. She is the one that leads most of the investigation and discovers what Legion's plan is, and believes in Gamera can defeat him above all. She seems to understand that Gamera is a force that can aid humanity, so long as humanity does not destroy the Earth.

Played By: Hisako Manda
Alternate: Setsuko Karasuma

Gamera: The titular kaiju, Gamera is a giant flying, fireball-breathing turtle that was created by an advanced civilization (Atlantis) to exterminate the invading Gyaos. While not apparent at first glance, Gamera does have a soft spot for children. His connection to Asami allows him to understand humanity, though at the end of the film that connection is broken to allow him to defeat Legion

Played By: Kenpachiro Satsuma
Alternate: Toru Kawai

Legion: It is a silicon-based alien who's arrived on Earth to consume silicon-based products in order to better reproduce and expand upon the Universe, even if doing so causes the destruction of Earth. Legion comes in two forms; the small group of aliens that gives it its name, and the huge singular creature that controls the smaller swarm and fights Gamera.

Played By: Masashi Takeguma
Alternate: Tatsumi Fuyamoto
Asagi Kusanagi: She is a young girl who lives with her father. She forms a spiritual bond with Gamera after she received an ancient pendant found on Gamera's hide by her father and 1st. Officer Yoshinari. She is in the second city that Legion attacks, and as such she can see Gamera as he fights. In the time passed, she's still believed in Gamera, even when their connection's cut off.

Played By: Yasuko Sawaguchi
Alternate: Yuki Saito

Network Engineer Obitsu: He is an engineer aiding Honami during her research into Legion. A man who tends to be excitable, he's also very brave and willing to dive into danger to defeat Legion and help Gamera. Her knowledge in computers and programming aid in finding Legion's composition, as well as where they are planning to construct their nests.

Played By: Daisuke Ryu
Alternate: Kenichi Hagiwara
Akio Najiri: He is Honami's superior in the Sapporo Science Center. He's an affable man who trusts those under him.

Captain Hanatani: He is Watarase's partner and friend. A stickler for the rules, he's dedicated to protecting the people of Japan.

A.N.: So, this would be the sequel to the Pitch we're trying to get Daiei to make now. If we manage to reboot the Gamera franchise (and they really need it after the entire fiasco that was last year's film Gamera: Super Monster) then I'm thinking on making a couple more Gamera films before trying for Revenge of Iris. That movie, while good, seemed a bit rushed as it made Gamera go from chill to murderous in a single film without showing it happening. Which, I guess it's something regular when it happens in Godzilla films, but I want something different for Gamera.

So guys, i've been looking for films that we might be able to produce that are not fantasy or Sci Fi in order to prove that we are more than just that (though there is nothing wrong with it) and I found that An Officer and a Gentleman is due to be released in 1982. Now, from what I've been able to find out, the first shot began in lat 1981, so perhaps we may still have a chance to produce the movie and make it a Lucasfilm's original.

If not, it is still a good movie that we could distribute and help it become even greater than what it is. And it is already pretty great, what with making over 10 times its budget.

What do you think?

Another good idea. Universal and Sid are about to Sue Nintendo 1982 over Donkey Kong / King Kong despite Sid knowing it was in public domain. perhaps we could lend a hand there out of sheer spite For Sids Legal shenanigans towards Lucasfilm.
Oh.......I wouldn't mind seeing either Nintendo or Sega being owned by Lucasfilm...
Fair. I just did it because I ran out of ideas and I wanted Bruce to expand his business portfolio, something I found as worthy of an autopass considering the hell that Bruce is going through just to acquire land in LA.

How about we do this action instead:

We get another film added to the roster, it's good synergy with the Hollywood co-production, and we network and expand our presence in live action Japanese cinema. Plus we can use Gamera later on in our anime or games.
Ooohhhh........Lucasfilm getting into Japanese cinema would be a great idea! I was actually thinking that we create our own original kaiju franchise AND beat Saban to the tokusatsu boom.....WITH OUR OWN ORIGINAL PROPERTY!

Sure, I don't see why not. I would like to point out though that we are going to be producing quite a bit of horror within the next few production plannings and it shouldn't be a problem to put up a few more pitches of romance, war, action, mystery, children's movies, etc. I've got a few lined up actually, I just haven't been able to really get around to them because I've been super busy with Uni. I'll try and get a couple out, but I probably won't be able to finish more than 2 or 3.

Personally, I think that, In Universe, the fact that we have some of the best Special Effects as well as CGI ahead of time makes it so that we use them in every film, and the ones that tend to have more of those are Fantasy, Science Fiction, and Horror, with some adventure films sprinkled in as well.

Very rarely do Children's films or Romance need the level of attention we give to our films.
I think it is a very good film that deserves to be done by Lucasfilms.

Rolz for all three:D100 => 93

Half of Hollywood, along with most of the entire Western, Middle Eastern, and North African Film industry, is looking for a part to play in this sweeping Epic. Because they heard that Bruce O'Brian and Francis Ford Coppola are involved. And that meanest careers could be made.

Continued in: The Casting Call for everyone.
-----------------------------------------------

-[X]The Dune: You and Francis are going to look at numerous places that could be the Arakis or Dune. DC: 40/80 Rolled:D100 => 17

You looked at the three places that were to be used as Dune.

You see, There was old Faithful, Tunisia, and Egypt that would have loved to have the business, and of course, your money, flowing into their countries, as well as the great tourist attractions that you could probably build there.

However, the problems there were numerous, including the fact that after numerous films there, many crew members got sick with the runs and dysentery…. And the cost to build sets, along with your own experience on-location shoots…

You just didn't want to deal with the hassle of it.

Doing it in Arizona was another choice, and it was one that Steve brought up. Because of course he did, he said he had great experiences filming there when he was a kid. Except that Fancis didn't agree with that assessment.

He didn't think it was… "Foreign enough"

So you had to go to Mexico. Francis said he liked it far more than all the other locations. And you could see why. There were places where there was nothing but desolation and thebeating desert.

As well as it being close to actually air in or driving in new supplies without being at the mercy of… well, other problems.

Reward: You will be filming Dune's location scenes in Mexico.
------------------------------------------------------------

-[X]The Costumes: Herbert for his part, created incredibly detailed costumes in his book. And you are going to look at what the Lucasfilms Costume Department can do. DC: ???

Beautiful. Breathtaking, and futuristic. That was the simple way out of it. It took the costume designers only a few weeks, and lots of money, to create hundreds of costumes for the film, besides the simple fact that they saw the passion of Francis, and they decided that they were not going to half-ass it. Mostly because they know what might happen.

They would never hear the end of it.

Reward: Costume rolls increased.
-----------------------------------------

-[X]The Sets From Hell: So… You are looking at the pictures and wonder… how the absolute fuck are you going to do… any of this!? DC: 50/100 Rolled:D100 => 37

You should not have doubted ILM.

You really shouldn't have, because they took the Lot and the ideas, and ran with it in ways that were utterly ingenious. Like, you could see the stonework, the way there would be wear and tear…

Showing age because the House of Atredies wouldn't be the first occupants. You looked at them and asked how they managed to do it.

One just said. "We're being paid to create the impossible, so might as well do that, and figure out how it works later?"

The confidence that they have!

George hired the best in the business. And that was that.

Reward: The Sets will increase SP other rolls.
--------------------------------------------

-[X]The Knives and Weapons: So, as the most combat-proven (in HEMA) blades man in Lucasfilms currently, you are going to figure out what exactly the blades should be used, and their context DC: 30 Rolled: D100 => 70
You saw the weapons that they forged and found them…

Adequate. You wished that they were a little better and more creative, but you were reminded that the Key to the future often lies in the past.

Reward: Bonuses will be added to the production.
-----------------------------------------------------------

-[X]The Peace that Is to Come: Alan and Barry, and Sid and Murdoch, are calling in that thing to make a super movie that shows the greatest of American Filmmaking and make the peace worth a damn. One that would spare no expense. DC: ??? Rolled:D100 => 86

Well now, that was something.

-[X]Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark: Steven's next, and you would argue, greatest masterpiece. You hoped at least. You had high hopes. DC: 20 Rolled:D100 + 20 => 98

One of the greatest adventure films ever made.

That wasn't your words, it was the critics.

(continued in Raiders of the Lost Ark)
-----------------------------------------------------------

-[X]The Family Time: You need a night out with the family dammit! No more drama, no more work, just you and Carrie and the Kids! Rolled:D100 => 80

You finally were back from work and you looked at the kids playing around. Carrie was watching them, and she was smiling. "You're home?"

"Hopefully." You said. "Now how are our little hellions?"

The twins are energetic and rambunctious, and Mary wants to play with Brandon, but I already told her that he won't be back for another few weeks." She exhaled. "Well you know how that made her feel."

Ah. "So what shall we do tonight to make the kids feel better?" You asked.

Carrie shrugged. "You being here is enough."

You smiled. "Oh, you don't want me to make dinner tonight?"

"I think that the kids deserve treat after your parents cooked." She replied.

"That steak was delicious." You protested.

"Mary didn't eat it, because of all the spices your father put on it. It was too much for her."

"The Whale Steak is a delicacy and you should be honored that dad made it!" You said.

"But Mary didn't like it."

"It's better than some of the crap that other kids are eating." you said. "She needs to grow strong, and that is the best way to do it, eating good food and having a great family!"

Your wife then shook her head. "Then you are cooking dinner tonight!"

"I love you." You whispered as you kissed her on the cheek.

"I know."

Then you looked at Ginger, and saw half a dozen little kittens. "Carrie, when did Ginger adopt kittens?"

Then Carrie facepalmed. "You didn't know your cat was pregnant with kittens?"

Then it finally hit you. That explained so much actually.

Reward: You make dinner and have a good time, and also you learn your cat has kittens.

Oh lord.

They have been in sheer financial straits and you have given them the lifeline they need to keep them up.

It was a strange thing to say, but the Show was something called…

The Price is right, and you were clearly the richest person ever on the show. That was confusing, but you were doing this entirely for charity, where you guessed an item's price, not only would you donate that money to charity, but it also would go to someone in the audience, for free as a gift.

And it was a smash success, and you were really guessing the prices as close as you could, and you honestly had a great deal of fun.

And your appearance was the highest-watched and rated episode of the series yet.

Reward: You appeared on the Price is Right. And blew the ratings out of the water.

Oh man, we have all of Hollywood wanting to be in our film! Do they know what the subject is about, or are they just coming because it has Francis and Bruce at the helm?

Also, what kind of movie is Sid and the rest planning?

I love that show! :D Glad to see it getting some appreciation.

And thank goodness for the auto-successes. Because whoo boy, could there have been some failures.

Honestly any lucasfilms bit of work logically has all of Hollywood biting at the bit to audition and get their foot in the door.

Like, very rarely does this universe's lucasfilms have a true flop.

We don't make as MANY films as some but all of our work is always top quality and I have a feeling even bit actors in any of our films have one HECK of a resume addition and the claim to fame of being hired to work with lucasfilms which only accepts the best.

Say @Magoose , is Frank Herbert part of the production, or at least aware of it? I mean, we took our time in making the film, so at the very least he would be curious about it, right?

Also, what were the designs given, were they something like these:

Well at least people will be lining up to adopt one of the kittens.

Too bad I don't think we ever figured out how Ginger got pregnant when there's no male cats in the compound.

Uhm so how much this going to bend Mexico film market.

Wonder how things go so well when we have some low rolls in there.

Oh well hope casting going to be fun. Going to be lots of hurt feelings I am sure. Wonder how big we are going to make it.
