Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

I'm don't think I'd be good at writing a script so I'm just gonna put the idea out there, and if it's already been suggested then sorry but has anyone thought of doing The Last Samurai?

Oh, if Miyazaki absolutely despise us before, I don't wanna see what he'll think of us if we make this. That being said, we can make a lot of money, so... do it with Kurosawa making it.

Does someone know wen was the year/Decade for war/ww2 movies and series ?;i remember ther is a time where they where realy a trend but don't remember when.

I really don't want to change Miyazaki's opinion of Bruce through Omake like the John Lennon one as I don't think anything could earn such a move, and I think Miyazaki's opposition to us serves as a good lesson in that sometimes talented or good people will work against Lucasfilms and Bruce doesn't need everyone to be his friend or like him. Heck, my major motivation for writing this omake was to set up Studio Ghibli as a rival to Dreamworks and prevent anime from being monopolized by Sunrise.
Whereas I don´t want Bruce and Miyazaki to become plas of anything I hope that Disney butchers Nausicaa in the edit room like they did OTL so that he realizes that Dreamworks is the only studio willing to respect the source material and has to begrudgingly use our channels to our Princess Mononoke or the Moving Castle to screen...

Or he could do what he did last time and send a katana with a message saying "No cuts this time"

Awesome stuff, probably your best piece of narrative work yet. I almost cried by the end, and it's kind of beautiful how Bomberman TTL has become this game with a hidden meaning of finding your humanity and escaping from the depths of corporate hell. Look forward to it being an icon of LucasArts.

Good update but this part bugs me the way Bruce seems to denigrate his own directors, animators and movies. Also I know Miyazaki is brilliant due to hignsight but this is Miyazaki's debut in an unkown studio and Bruce seems to already believe it will be a direct competitor to all of Dreamworks/Disney, for all the world could know this was a fluke/flash in the pan. Like I know meta-wise Miyazaki is going to be the big bad of our animation wing of the company but we can built it up instead of instanly giving him all the praise in the world.

But outside of that great update.

Sorry about that. Valid point of criticism, I guess I went a bit too far with the hype and I was mostly basing this comparison off of Lupin III having a much higher quality and reception mark than Hiawatha and Basil thus I assumed that's how Bruce would see it that way. I'll get rid of the direct comparison and just leave in Miyazaki is a peer.

Also, Bruce in the past has had talent for having amazing foresight and recognizing great skill and potential in mediums, people and intellectual properties. I figured he would instantly feel this way about Miyazaki's potential and to be fair, it's kind of similar to how everyone reacts to Ghibli IRL. I'll try to do it better in the future when writing sidestories with competitor movies.

Considering that Disney's biggest threat and rival concurrently is Dreamworks which is composed half of Japanese animators and they have repeatedly made mature animation content that audiences found receptive, I don't think it's likely that Disney will overcensor or edit Naausica. They know that Miyazaki has talent and can be a great financial success and to overrwrite his work means a danger of losing Miyazaki to a third party. It seems like the Old Guard is dying plus you have to remember that Disney made War of the Worlds and Halloween here so they are willing to take chances.

I'm not saying Bruce should be dissmisive about Miyazaki but there are a lot of examples of genuinely talanted directors/talants/artists who after their big flash just seem to disappoint in future projects. So Bruce should be impressed and see his talant but doubtfull if a young Miyazaki can keep the pace up with the big boys with an outsider studio. We know Miyazaki will do this but Bruce does not have 40+ years of hignsight. But that's my read.

You probably right, but since as you say the old guard is dying we should try to get Tim Burton in the 82 ASAP, since that is the year in which he started to pitch his poem of A Nightmare Before Christmas (and Disney and everyone else said no)

Bruce: Francis we don't have the people to do some of the things we want to do!

Mike Eisner defends 2D....Live Action
Meanwhile in Universal: Sid is ready to unleash his newest most diabolical scheme yet. And Mike is ready to can that faster then Joseph on a bad reviewer. (An Omake involving Sids master plan and how mike picks it apart, while pointing out its merits.)

Mike Eisner defends 2D....Live Action

"Sid, this is stupid and is going to harm Hollywood and your company in the long term than anything we can do." Michael Eisner said to Sidney Shineberg.

Ever since the "Bruce Truce" which had seen Hollywood deescalate from their blood feuds and quest to kill each other off, the movie studio heads had been having regular meetings with one another to coordinate business strategies and work together on any possible joint ventures. Mike in this regard had been cooperating more with Disney and Paramount, especially the latter for PTVS, but he had a few meetings with the Universal CEO to formalize the spheres of influence between the two companies.

What he did not expect was that Sid would try to pull his own George and revolutionize the film industry, particuarly by working with some company called IMAX to make 3D films the norm, thus him trying to meet with Mike to get THX and Skywalker Sound to join to mass produce it.

Sid looked rather incredulous at the opposition, "Let me guess, you're trying to get me to back off while your company makes a brand new revolutionary system and steals all the glory and profit?"

"No, you have my word that's not it at all." Matter of fact, the new craze in Lucasfilms was a different kind of 3D, 3D animation. Not that Mike would be so free in sharing it with Sid, although considering the mess of Blue Sky, he doubted Universal could take proper advantage of it even if they had bought Pixar wholesale.

"It's just going to be too much of a mess for the theaters in terms of cost and experience. They're a nice novelty to be sure, and I can definitely see 3D being a beautiful experience for the likes of Star Wars, but I doubt it will catch up to the experience soon and there's not a use for it outside of horror. Can you see most UA Indie films using 3D for casual character conversations, it's too costly when there's not too many films that would be enhanced by the technique."

"But that's just how the films are formatted today, our directors can rework their movies to be structured from start to finish in filming around 3D." Sid argued.

"What kind of format, having Bruce turn to the camera and then flash his hands or throw a punch so the audience feels like they'll get beat up by Bruce O'Brian, turn Batman into an Adam West spectacle?" Mike said.

"Even still, the rewards of the exprience outweigh the risks. Imagine flying alongside X-Wing and TIE fights or going to battle with Napoleon in his greatest campaigns. Cinema is all about spectacle and 3D will do for movies what television did for home entertainment."

"TV doesn't make many people nauseous or rely on constantly upgrading expensive systems and mass production of flimsy glasses." Mike says, then sighs, "You are right when it comes to the potential that 3D has for the really big spectacle blockbusters. There's a lot of potential for epics and VFX heavy movies. But we should test out the developments and ease our way into normalization instead of thrusting full speed ahead irregardless of the potential or lack thereof. I don't want Lucasfilms to lose money because our movies were not pleasant to sit through."

"Fine, I'll back off total mobilization for now, but we will continue our investments. 3D is the future."

"I'm sure it's part of the future Sid, but we'll see if it's just that, part or the future. For now, just support your own films, don't force us to adapt to a technology we didn't sign up for."

A/N: Admittedly I'm not at all happy with this omake but I wanted to complete the challenge. I had no idea on how to address the prompt or why Mike would take such actions, but after some research I figured the closest thing that Sid could come to would be normalizing 3D films like how Hollywood tried to make them the only format in the 2000s. Hope this works out.

Have we done that ?,i don't remember us taking any action to coordinate with others studios since that truce was created ?,i didn't noticed much effect at all to be honnest but it could just be me not noticing something.

It's more an informal thing that is based upon everyone deciding that things have gotten far to tense and things need to back off.

Competition is good. Full on warfare is bad.

Mike Eisner defends 2D....Live Action
Part 3 is compleated.

I will post those rewards soon.

They've also expressed heavy interest with Toho for a continued sponsorship of the Lupin franchise with Disney securing the broadcast rights for Lupin III Part 2, which was also worked on by Miyazaki. Something tells you that they want the show as part of a block for older audiences.
Holy crap..an block for older audiences could actually make Disney Channel more popular. I even have a few ideas for such block at launch.
Tomino shook his head, "No, he is currently working on a manga and told me he wants to found his own anime studio, though there is always the chance Disney may distribute his other films like Lupin. I've read the manga's three volumes, it is rather good so far, though a strange setting." Tomino informed.
What manga is he working on?
Taking a Leap

Shinichi Nakamoto did not consider himself an impulsive man. As a matter of fact he would not consider himself the kind of employee that would try to rock the boat either; growing up, his parents had instilled in him. Don't make a fuss, make sure to study hard, always follow the orders of your superiors, the opportunity is there for those who work hard...lessons that he'd breathed and lived for during his time at school, during his time at college, and during his time at work.

It had served him well; once his time studying was over he went right to the workforce at a modest company that promised great growth and stability for him in the future. Sure, he had to work grueling hours, deal with most problematic demands, and more nights than usual he would be too tired to do most of anything save for relax on the weekends, if he was not called for an emergency situation. But that was fine, it was expected; same as with his father who would usually arrive tired from work, he was now following the same steps as his family had ever since the end of...the war. It was not something that had ever concerned him in the end.

This was his life, and he was content with it.

So how did it all go wrong?

He thought about it as he sat in a Coffee Shop in the middle of the day. His prospects gone to shit, his current work now being limited to just what he can get on a day-to-day basis from part time jobs in programming and technician jobs in repairing computers, and his reputation suddenly being soiled as he was labeled a "troublemaker" by his original company. How did it got to be this bad?

Frankly speaking, the only think he could think of was of the man who'd just gave him the one shot he might just have in order to get a living, even if it meant uprooting from his current home and trying to live now in the United States.

His best friend Jonouchi Sagara.

Both of them had been the outcast kids back in school. Himself due to his shyness and Sagara due to his unashamed interest in Manga and drawing, which caused him to be called to the principal's office more than once as he kept on doodling during class. Many times he'd been told not to hang out with him, but since his grades had not suffered, nor was that exceptional a student for teachers to take an interest, in the end he was left alone. Besides, hearing Sagara speak about manga and anime was a welcome reprieve from his studies, making him feel he was involved in something grander for at least a while.

After College they remained in contact, even if it was sporadic. Sagara had decided to try his luck at drawing and animation, feeling the chance to bring his favorite cartoons towards the little screen. Shinichi often tried to dissuade him, to tell him that it would be safer to enter the labor force in any other capacity than the animation industry, yet Sagara always laughed it off, sure that he would make it big following his dreams. Well, it all came as he'd told him. In their meetings Sagara was always looking tired, there was always talks about how much he had to work, how little he got to sleep, and how often he felt that in the end all they did was just so limited for all that they've worked.

It did shame him that at those moments he felt some satisfaction, though he always remained a good support for his friend as he tried to convince him to leave it and try again, that he could help him get a job at the company he worked in. Hudson was always looking for more people to expand after all, and their current expansion for the Videogame packages from personal related computer projects meant that they could always use more people.

But his friend was stubborn, and remained at his post. You did not have much hope for whatever might happen at his workplace, after all, what were the odds that Sunrise Studios would break what was the norm in Japan?

Pretty good apparently if you happened to be bought by the newest sensation around the world. Lucasfilms was a name that many had heard of due to Star Wars, and if you hadn't then you clearly lived under a rock. He'd gone and seen the movies when he had his days off and it did live to the hype, he also heard the news of their sudden turn against Toho, even though he did not have much interest in it beyond knowing that from now on their films would have a different distributor.

But he would hear everything about the sudden buyout of Sunrise, and their change in the working culture of their animators, as Sagara would not shut up about them whenever they meet. no longer did he seem tired, disheartened, or just ready to collapse; instead he looked healthier than before, with a reinvigorated passion and energy, ready and willing to share on every little thing that he'd worked in. How he'd managed to animate a Gundam segment, how he got to join a group to Paris to draw on the city for the Miraculous anime, how he got to help design a Kaiju for Pacific Rim...

It went on and on and on. And though at first he was happy for his friend, it did not take long for another emotion to take its place.

Envy.

Why...why did he have to work such unreasonable hours when Sagara didn't? Why did Hudson had to squeeze all their employees dry every single day until all they could do was go home to sleep? Why did he have so few free time when in comparison to Sunrise? Why? Why? Why?

It just didn't end there though, it was like he was seeing everything clear for the first time, noticing the small incongruities that just seemed to plague him every day and night as he could not reconcile them together. Sagara spoke of a labor that while intensive it nonetheless allowed him to not break his body working on it like he'd always believed it necessary. He spoke of being happy to go to work, and then being happy to go back to his family. He spoke of benefits, travels, and chances for hard work being rewarded with more than just more hard work until you get older like many other companies did...

It burrowed under his mind all together until he could hold it in no more. Until he finally snapped. Until he finally called out to his boss as another day of staying late for unpaid labor once more left him utterly exhausted as he finished the small script for a proof of concept.

Until said outburst got him fired, blacklisted as a troublemaker, and made him a near pariah in the few places where he could find temporary work.

It had been about a year. A year of constant meetings and job interviews, a year of meeting Sagara and being offered help much like he'd once done so, a year of failures when finally he could hold no longer and had to beg his friend for an opportunity. One that he now held in his hand.

LucasArts Entertainment.

A new Videogame Division, a new place to work at, a new chance at a new life, a new chance at what Sagara had told him was possible in a new working environment. For a moment he hesitated, remembering his parents advise, what they taught him growing up, what everyone said was necessary to be successful.

Then he thought on the injustice and lack of remuneration, on the blacklisting, and the newfound opportunities to be found...and he knew what he would have to do. Preparing his papers and his luggage was a chore, but one that he could do for a new future. Furthermore, he would not be going empty handed. The small proof of concept was still in his hands, and he was sure that it would make for a good game, and a better enticement for being hired. He would need a name though, and his mind just kept on going to...

Videogame Pitch:
Bomberman

Set Up: Bomberman is a robot engaged in the production of bombs. Like his fellow robots, he had been put to work in an underground compound by evil forces. Bomberman found it to be an unbearably dreary existence. One day, he heard an encouraging rumor. According to the rumor, any robot that could escape the underground compound and make it to the surface could become human. Bomberman leaped at the opportunity, but escape proved to be no small task. Alerted to Bomberman's betrayal, large numbers of the enemy set out in pursuit. Bomberman can rely only on bombs of his own production for his defense. Will he ever make it up to the surface? Once there, will he really become human?

Game Developer: LucasArts Entertainment
Director: Shinichi Nakamoto
Genre: Arcade, Maze, Strategy.

The player must navigate Bomberman through a maze by destroying soft blocks and enemies with his bombs. Hidden in every stage is one Power-Up that will either increase his blast radius, speed, or the number of bombs he can lay at one time, among other things. Each stage also features 1 secret item that can be uncovered under special conditions. To clear a stage, the player must find the exit that is hidden under one of the soft blocks and defeat all the enemies in order to open it. If a bomb blast touches the exit after it is exposed, more enemies will be generated out of it. There are 50 levels in total, and a password system can be used to continue the game.
Bomberman: The eponymous character, he wears overalls, has a visible mouth, hair, and a white hat with a red feather, he also had a white horizontal stripe on his back. Having grown tired of making bombs in an unnamed underground empire and deciding to escape after hearing a rumor that a robot can become human, Bomberman faces against the many enemies on his path to freedom. He can produce bombs to fight them, as well as using power ups to increase his abilities.
Balloom: They resemble balloons, hence their name. They are limbless with a string connecting to the bottom, and have beady eyes and a smile. They also have a very unpredictable movement pattern. Ballom has two colors: pink when normal and red when aggressive. It takes one hit to defeat.

Beaker: He moves quickly and randomly. It will move toward Bomberman when he is nearby. It is not likely to get stuck in walls and can be incredibly troublesome. It is the second enemy to be encountered. Beaker is associated with the Fire-Up power-up, and as such will spawn when the stage Exit containing the power-up is bombed, or when the power-up is destroyed. It takes 1 hit to defeat and yields a score of 200 points.

Blockhead: It is a red barrel. It is found on some levels after the Beakers, and it moves at a slightly fast speed with a bouncy animation. It is not hard to kill, but it can be tricky. Blockheads are not smart, even less intelligent than Balloms and they won't try to chase Bomberman, preferring to move from the left to right, sometimes switching to up and down. They commonly get stuck in walls.

Minbow: They Are orange smiley faces that move like fast Beakers. These are encountered after the Blockheads. They will commonly pursue Bomberman if he's nearby, though they do also get stuck if he's hiding nearby. They are associated with a Soft Block Pass power-up, and as such will appear when the stage Exit containing the power-up is bombed, or when the power-up is destroyed.

Amebea: An amoeba-like enemy. It moves slower than all other enemies but it can move through Soft Blocks. It's cyan-colored, just as the Beakers are. Amebea is very smart, as it will commonly attempt to chase Bomberman and evade bombs. Amebea is associated with the Remote-Control power-up, and as such will spawn when the stage Exit containing the power-up is bombed, or when the power-up is destroyed.

Floatsam: It is typically a red (sometimes pink) ghost octopus that moves through Soft Blocks. They are encountered after the Amebeas. They chase after Bomberman, like Amebea, Beaker, Minbow, Foton and Tiglon (mostly/sometimes they do, sometimes they don't), but due to their wall-pass abilities, they can cause problems.

Tiglon: It moves faster than most enemies, except Foton, which is even faster, passes through Soft Blocks and more dangerous, and is able to avoid bombs. It often pursues Bomberman. Its behavior and appearance is kind of similar to Minbow, leading to assume that the two enemies could be somehow related, though Tiglon has ears, white cheek fur and fangs, and is a tiger.

Foton: It is a dangerous red to pink coin enemy. Foton moves very quickly, passing through Soft Blocks and constantly pursuing Bomberman. It is the most dangerous enemy. They're associated with the Invincibility Power-up and as such, will appear if said power up is blown up by a bomb, or the exit of a level with this power up present is bombed or worse, if the timer reaches zero. It will harm the player on collision.

A.N.: So, seeing who worked the most on the series, I noticed that the concept was made just around the time when we bought Sunrise and started changing the working culture, or at the very least showing that there was a different way. I figured that perhaps Shinichi would see the changes (more on his friend's side) and think just why is it that he has to work so hard for so little remuneration...and the rest was history.
Bomberman under Lucasfilm? FUCKING GENIUS! I could even see the Bomberman anime be made under Sunrise, and in fact, I could see the whole B-Daman franchise under them as well:

Overall, great ideas guys!

Movie Pitch: Basil of Baker Street: The Lost Colony
You know, when Basil of Baker Street was all done, it struck me as a bit of a waste that it would just end like that. I mean, we had the entire works of Eve Titus to work with, and unlike OTL version with Disney, this one was an unabashed success, showing the true versatility of animation, as well as an amazing tale that could be in dark tone but without being outright horror or mature for grown-ups. I thought that it would be an excellent idea if we could try and make a TV Show about Basil's further adventures.

Yeah, that idea lasted all of an hour.

Don't get me wrong, there is the material to be used, just...not enough if we want a TV Show. In the end we would have to either create new original adventures or "borrow" from Sherlock Holmes' adventures in order to find new storylines for the entire series. And hopefully you can forgive me but I wanted to be a bit more original than that. However, seeing the works of Ms. Titus, I figured that we had enough of a material to try and make more movies, more sequels to the story, thereby creating our first animation film franchise.

Big problem has been that I can't find the books to read, there is hardly any information about what the follow up books are about save a couple of lines describing the entire adventure, and an audio book I found only had the first chapter that had mostly Basil and Dawson just speaking about chasing Ratigan.

Yeah, apparently Ratigan is still alive in the books.

Anyways, I figure that I can try and form some sort of story from what little I've been able to find in the sequel books. it's what Disney (and us) did with the first book after all.

Thus, I give you:

Movie Pitch:
Basil of Baker Street: The Lost Colony

GENRE: Noir/Mystery

SUBGENRE: Adventure/Action

FORMAT: Movie (Animation)

Set Up: Based on the children's book Basil and the Lost Colony from the series Basil of Baker Street by Eve Titus, the main characters are all mice and rats living in Victorian London. After Ratigan's death, Basil and Dawson now will have to deal with the involvement of the government stopping him from getting involved in a series of thefts, all which point to a single culprit; Captain Doran, Ratigan's former subordinate. In order to see justice done, Basil will have to travel outside London, chasing after Captain Doran to a location unseen before, known only as "The Lost Colony".

Director: Brad Bird
Composer: Ennio Morricone

Basil and Dawson are working on a new case when they are interrupted in the midst of finding the culprit by the intervention of new forces led by Basil's older brother; Macrinus. Both brothers bicker, showing the animosity between them, with Macrinus telling Basil to stay out of the case, as this was now an official government investigation. Basil does not list and draws Dawson in order to find just what it is that they're trying to find.

They infiltrate the government building in Downing Street, where Basil uses a myriad of disguises to get inside, while Dawson makes sure to distract the authorities as long as possible. Basil manages to enter the archives and find what he's looking for; the current case which involves an individual known as Captain Doran...Rattigan's former Lieutenant. Basil is shocked, and then startled as Macrinus speaks behind him, knowing he would try to come. Both sides argue, with Basil complaining of Macrinus once more trying to control his life, while Macrinus insists that this is not something Basil should be involved with. Guards arrive, leading to a chase where both Basil and Dawson have to use all their wits to escape.

Once out, the team look at Doran's file, finding information on him, what he's been doing, and his current expedition to find some sort of "Lost Colony" in the arctic. Basil decides to search for him, part stubbornness to complete their last case, and part spitefulness towards Macrinus. The travel is arduous, eventually arriving at a port in the frontier from where they learn of more details on Doran and his expedition further north. There they meet Aput, a native who can guide them on the way, though he warns them of the dangers of the trail.

During the travel there are many dangers and hijinks, among them small tribes of "Blizzard Cats" as Aput calls them, but they manage to get to the location the native knew of; the community of Nunangat, that does not look like much at first, but Dawson soon points to an incongruity that Basil researches; there should not be that many people in a place that has little to no chances to feed that many. Though Aput tries to waylay them, they eventually find a secret path to a hidden location; a grander community...one that as soon as they enter they find themselves captured, Aput included.

After a while from being imprisoned, they are taken to the Chief's home, where they meet Aklaq, the new Chief...and Aput's brother. Alongside him is Captain Doran, his new adviser. After seeing the brothers bicker among themselves, Basil tries to convince Aklaq about captain Doran, but the brother does not listen, and they are brought once more to their cells. Once on the cells Aput tries to explain the situation in the hidden community, though Basil had already deduced that this was the "Lost Colony", one that vanished after joining with the hidden community of Nunangat.

They work out a plan to escape, and confront Aklaq in his rooms after knocking out his guards. The confrontation between brothers is fierce, but both Basil and Dawson intervene, helping them speak to each other, revealing Doran had actually had taken over the community after killing the previous Chief, their uncle, and keeping Aklaq as a puppet. His plan is simply to exploit them and their secret gold mine to become rich and return once he had all the riches. Aklaq did not say anything to protect his brother once Doran left.

After the sibling reconcile, Basil mentions how Doran leaving does not fit his profile, with Dawson recalling some stories about Doran when he was in Afghanistan, rumors about him making his fortune by killing communities outright. The group run to Doran's home to find it abandoned, but with hints as to his plans to destroy Nunangat. Basil follows the tracks as he chases him, while Dawson helps the siblings in finding the explosives, leading to both a chase scene and a race against the clock where they are both stopped at the nick of time.

In the final scene, both Basil and Dawson see Captain Doran being taken back to London by the Royal Guards, as Macrinus once more approaches Basil, both sides arguing a bit, before Basil thanks him for his help in bringing Doran to London. Macrinus is surprised, but accepts it in somewhat bashfully, while he thanks Basil for catching Doran...and saying in a low tone how he's happy he's unharmed. This moment is broken as both siblings soon find something new to bicker about, with Dawson just chuckling at them.
Detective Basil of Baker Street: He is a take-off of the classic Sherlock Holmes character, modeling his career after the famous detective's. Basil is a brilliant, plucky and tenacious mouse who refuses to back down no matter what stands against him once he decides to it. He comes off as a jack-of-all-trades, showing skill in areas such as science, history, and disguise, not to mention being physically capable. However he can also be prickly and self-centered as well as very emotional and operatic, becoming very moody if things do not go his way or if the situation looks dire.

Played By: Barrie Ingham

Doctor David Q. Dawson: Dr. Dawson is a bumbler who has a good heart and has joined Basil on his adventures and investigations as his partner. He previously served as the Queen's sixty-sixth Regiment in Afghanistan, before finally retiring to a more "normal" life. Dawson helps in both giving support and holding back his friend when he goes a bit too far into his investigation. During the adventure, he manages to help Basil in healing the brothers' disagreements.

Played By: Val Bettin

Captain Doran: He is Rattigan's former Lieutenant, who took over his syndicate once his boss died at Basil's hands. A former Captain in the Bangalore Pioneers, he's a deft hand at managing politics and presenting a respectable front, making him a more difficult opponent o sus out due to his connection with the upper class. He's managed to finance an expedition on search of a "Lost Colony" for supposedly archeological reasons, yet both Basil and Macrinus suspect him of more.

Played By: Colin Baker
Alternate: Christopher Lee

Fidget the Bat: A peg legged bat and Professor Ratigan's right-hand man. Fidget is a cowardly, greedy minion in the employ of Professor Ratigan. He is somewhat forgetful, as he left his hat and Ratigan's list (which allows Basil to track him down and find his hideout, respectively) when he ran away the first and second time, respectively. Despite this, he is also cunning; he tends to use stealth to carry out the tasks given to him by Ratigan. And in spite of his physical hardships, he's still quite scrappy. He isn't a very good speaker either.

Played By: Candy Candido
Mrs. Judson: She is Basil's maid. She lives in an apartment of Baker Street with Basil of Baker Street. She made cheese crumpets for Dawson and Olivia, acting as a mother figure towards her.

Played By: Diana Chesney

Macrinus of Downing Street: He is Basil's older brother, a man of great influence and intellect in the government. Though he and Basil tend to clash whenever they meet, in the end, Macrinus loves his younger brother and wants him to be safe.

Played By: Sylvester McCoy
Aklaq: He is the older brother of Aput, the nephew of Nanuq (the former Chief) and the current Chief of Nunangat. Aklaq saw Captain Doran kill his uncle and previous Chief in order to get the gold from their secret mines. He hopes that he can just give them what they want in order for them to leave. In the meantime he hopes to keep his brother out of the line of fire in order to protect him, no matter how much he hates him.

Played By: Gordon Tootoosis

Aput: He is the younger brother of Aklaq, and the nephew of Nanuq (the former Chief) and an avid explorer of the world outside his community. His curiosity had him be exiled from the community by his brother, though it is revealed later on that it was a ruse to keep him safe from Captain Doran and his group who'd managed to sink their claws into Nunangat.

Played By: Grant Bardsley

A.N.: I think that this movie should be done sooner rather than later in order to strike while character is still fresh in the minds of everyone who saw the movie. Then again, we could also try and wait for a bit and then surprise everyone with the release. Our advantage relies in that we still have the material, but Disney might get wise to our techniques soon. I selected Brad Bird since I want to see what he can do when he tries to make a sequel rather than trying an original film. If we make a later sequel i'm thinking on letting Don give it a shot, that way we could keep the franchise fresh by having different takes that still follow the characters' stories.

Turn 88 (June 1981)
Turn 88 (June 1981)

You and Carrie were looking at the newspapers, and you were trying your best to decide whether to throw them out, or to begin to start calling the Lawyers.

But the Headline said everything.

The Master of Fantasy and Sci-Fi creating a new Film? What will Bruce O'Brian do Next?

You looked to Carrie. "Really, Master of Sci-Fi, do I look like George!?" You complained. "Master of Fantasy maybe, if not for John Bor-"

"Considering most of the films that you have made or produced have been science fiction and Fantasy?" She offered. "Take the compliment."

Good point. "Carrie, do you think I'm typecasting myself for this kind of work?" You asked. "All the sci-fi and fantasy?

"Why are you asking me, I'm considered Oscar Bait. Any script I have or song I make might get nominated." She replied, and you found yourself smiling. The Academy did love Carrie, despite you…

Oh god. You shook your head. "Carrie is if production starts soon-"

Carrie smiled. "You think I'm going to be needing you if you galavant off in the Desert?"

"Thankfully not in Tunisia, according to Francis." You replied. "If you need anything-"

"I know." She then looked to Mary and the Twins. "I think I'll be fine."

You smiled. "It's going to be okay."

Léo Major
Movie pitch:

Canadian warrior:Léo Major

GENRE : Biopic/Action
SOUS-GENRE : Guerre
FORMAT : Film
Born on January 23, 1921, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, to French Canadian parents, Major moved with his family to Montreal before his first birthday. While he grow up his father is often absent for work, leading Leo's mother to raise the kids herself, which is for the best since the father is a violent man who when he is at home often beats léo with a belt while saying things like "you're weak", "you're a coward" and "you'll never achieve anything in life". having enough of his father he moved to live with an aunt at age 14 and will began to work in a farm for a time then in railway construction where his bosses having noticed his hard work, his valor and his temerity decide to ( to léo great pleasure) form him to the use of explosive so he could handle and use the dynamite used to clear obstacles. The poor relation with his father, combined with a lack of available work, led Major to join the Canadian army in july 1940 at the age of 19 (wich was underage to join the army) to prove to his father that he was "somebody to be proud of".

He asked to be assigned and was assigned to the next regiment to go to Europe which was the Régiment de la Chaudière,they where sent to scotland for 3 years of training with two weeks off per year, during his training he specialized in reconnaissance, commando operations and precision shooting and took up boxing in his free time,he and his regiment arrived in europe on Juno beach in the Invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944,during the assault of the beach Leo and five of his comrades decide to use Bangalore torpedoes to get rid of a wall/bunker blocking progress, once a breach creates a tank buldozer clears the debris allowing Leo and his comrades to penetrate the fortification, stoping the blockhause from shooting and took twelve prisoners.

Later that day during a reconnaissance mission with a comrade,he and his comrad discovered an German halftrack isolated and with only three crew members without infantry support,he shoot the pilot in the shoulder to neutralize him while still have someone that know how to drive the vehicule, his comrade kill the machine gunner and the third crew member surendered, they bring the vehicle back to the Canadian camp, making big arm signals so as not to be taken for attackers, when they arrive a battalion leader officer congratulates them and demands several times that they hand over their prize so that he can steal the credit of the exploit, Léo refuses and brings the truck and the prisoners to the officer of his regiment, the vehicle contained German communication equipment and secret codes.

Days later june 24, during the battle of Caen during a reconnaissance mission léo and 4 comradehave their first encounter with an SS patrol, he killed four soldiers, they decide to ambush the five SS soldiers and the ss soldier decide to fight, for of them are imediatly killed, however, the fifth managed to ignite a phosphorus grenade and throw it near Leo before dying; in the resulting explosion, Major lost one eye but continued to fight. When he was told that he was being demobilized thanks to his new disability, he refuse and continued his service as a scout and a sniper by insisting he needed only one eye to sight his weapon. According to him, he "looked like a pirate".
During the Battle of Normandy he would have defeated a panzer alone and later conter ambushed and ambush made by several ss soldiers

On October 30, 1944 in Holland,léo major and his friend, Corporal Wilfrid Arsenault, were assigned to determine the fates of a company of recruits that had disappeared after being sent to capture a town; however, as Arsenault fell ill, Major went alone. After finding the company's abandoned equipment and determining they had been captured, Major entered a house to find shelter from the rain and the cold, when he spotted two German soldiers walking along a dike,In his report he described his motivation for his following action as follows: "I was wet, I was cold, they had to pay.",léo told them to surender, the first one tryed to use his weapon so major killed him,the second then accepted to surender,léo used him as bait to capture the other member of the patrol that where near, and brought his captives to their commanding officer;after negociation between léo and the officier the officer and his company, totaling around 100 men, surrendered, though three of the soldiers were killed by Major, major dicovered that the English prisoners have been transferred elsewhere. In a nearby group of houses, SS troops, witnessing the company surrender, opened fire on them with a self-propelled anti-aircraft gun, killing seven and injuring some others.Major disregarded the enemy fire and continued escorting his prisoners to the Canadian front line, ordering a passing Canadian tank to fire on the SS troops. He marched back to camp with the surviving 93 prisoners

Allegedly, Major was chosen to receive a Distinguished Conduct Medal for this feat. However, he declined the offer as, according to him, General Montgomery (who was to present him with the award) was "incompetent" and in no position to be giving out medals.

In 27 February 1945, Major was helping a military chaplain load corpses from a destroyed Tiger II tank into a Universal Carrier in Keppeln, Germany. After they finished, the chaplain and the driver seated themselves in the front while Major jumped in the back of the vehicle. The carrier struck a land mine, the resulting explosion killing the chaplain and the driver and knocking Major unconscious. Major claimed to have remembered a loud blast, followed by his body being thrown into the air and smashing down hard on his back. Upon regaining consciousness, he awoke to find two concerned medical officers trying to assess his condition. He simply asked if the chaplain was okay. They did not answer his question, but transported him on a truck to a field hospital 30 miles (48 km) away, stopping every 15 minutes to inject morphine to relieve the pain in his back.
During this accident, Léo suffered a triple fracture of his back, four broken ribs and a sprain in both ankles.
He still managed to get out of the British hospital to avoid demobilization, join a jeep and ask someone to take him to a family in the Netherlands with whom he had become friends and this for the time he heals,on March 29, 1945, after a month of rest, he joined back his unit.
At the beginning of April 1945, the Régiment de la Chaudière were approaching the city of Zwolle, which was shown to have strong German resistance. On April 13, the regiment's commanding officer asked for two volunteers for a reconnaissance mission into Zwolle, their tasks being to scout the German force and, if possible, make contact with the Dutch Resistance, before an Allied artillery barrage could commence. Private Major and his friend Corporal Arsenault stepped forward to accept the task. However, Major and Arsenault, wanting to spare the city from destruction, agreed to attempt to liberate the city themselves.

That night, Major and Arsenault entered the farmhouse of Hendrik van Gerner, who gave them rough positions of German emplacements near the railway tracks. After leaving the farmhouse, Arsenault was killed by German fire after accidentally giving away the pair's position. In a radio interview with RTV Zwolle, Major told that he became mad after that, but managed to control himself. Major killed two of the Germans, but the rest fled in a vehicle. Deciding to continue his mission alone, Major entered Zwolle near Sassenpoort.

(what happened that night is a bit vague but the most cinematic version is the following, (if necessary Leo was alive until 2008 we can just ask him how it happened.))
Major was carrying two Sten guns and a sack of grenades. He arrived in the centre of Zwolle at about 0100 hours and found the streets silent and almost deserted, all the people he met "were either collaborators or German. And the German I met, most of them were drunk.". Here, he spotted a German machine-gun nest which, since the crew was sleeping, he promptly attacked and eliminated. He then captured the driver of a German staff car outside a tavern, went inside the tavern with this captive, and disarmed the officer who was drinking inside. The two communicated in French, and Major learned the officer was from Alsace-Lorraine, "a region near France that was not terribly committed to Adolf Hitler's rabid designs"; finding the officer did not mean any harm, Major gave the officer his gun back: "I said the war is almost finished and I am a member of the advance party – I didn't say I was alone. I said it's a lovely town and I didn't want nobody to destroy that town." Major then "spent the next few hours engaging patrols whenever he could and setting off grenades where they would make noise, but do little damage",For several hours, Major moved through the streets with the lights on, flying a white flag, shooting at any target he could find, making an impression that a large Canadian force had arrived,he attacked the local SS headquarters, killed half of the height officers and put the others to flight, after which he stocked up on ammunition and set fire to the building to urge the ss and german in their withdraw, the citizens were awakened but were afraid to come out of their houses. By a stroke of luck, Private Major came across the head of the local resistance, Frits Kuipers, and three of his men. By now the Germans appeared to have fled the city in panic. The group therefore returned to the town hall and the resistance fighters brought the citizens out into the streets. The local radio station was used to announce that the town had been liberated. Major was exhausted but he had to complete his mission by bringing back the body of his comrade, Wilfrid Arsenault, to his lines. At 0400 hours 14 April 1945, he waded across a canal, after posting numerous patrols of the Dutch Resistance Movement at strategic points. On his way back, though wet and tired, he picked up the body of his Corporal and brought it in.In this manner, he returned to the Canadian lines to report the result of his mission to his commanding officer
Thanks to Major's efforts, the planned shelling of Zwolle was called off, and the Régiment de la Chaudière entered the city the next day without firing a single shot. For his actions, Major received the Distinguished Conduct Medal and this time he accepted it.

He is the only man who has records of having liberated a city alone, he is celebrated and very appreciated in the city he liberated but only discovered this when his wife asked him why he had received a letter inviting him to the 25th anniversary of the liberation of the city, he was surprised that he was remembered and gave a long explanation to his wife about what he had done during the war.
After the conclusion of World War II, Major having little interest in a military career in peacetime returned tofound a job as a pipe fitter. He also got an operation ans spend 3 monts in an hospital to fix his back, which had bothered him since the landmine explosion in February 1945.

When the Korean War broke out, the Canadian government raised a force to join the United Nations Command in repelling the communist invasion. Major was called back and ended up in the Scout and Sniper Platoon of 2nd Battalion Royal 22e Régiment (R22eR) of the 25th Canadian Infantry Brigade, 1st Commonwealth Division. Major fought in the First Battle of Maryang San, where he received a bar to his Distinguished Conduct Medal for capturing and holding a key hill in November 1951.

Hill 355, nicknamed Little Gibraltar, was a strategic feature, commanding the terrain for twenty miles around, so the Communists were determined to take it before the truce talks came to an agreement that would lock each side into their present positions. Hill 355 was held by the 3rd U.S. Infantry Division (around 10,000 men) , who linked up with the R22eR on the Americans' western flank. On November 22, the Chinese 64th Army (around 40,000 men) began their attack: over the course of two days, the Americans were pushed back from Hill 355 by elements of the Chinese 190th and 191st Divisions. The 3rd U.S. Infantry Division tried to recapture the hill, but without any success, and the Chinese had moved to the nearby Hill 227, practically surrounding the Canadian forces.

Leo Major was asked if he thought that with his men he could do something to relieve pressure he said yes and asked to select 18 mento form a team and that each of them receive 8 days vacation and a bottle of rum after the mission it was accepted, an elite scout and sniper team of 18 men trained, selected and led by Léo Major was brought up,wearing running shoes to silence their movements, passed through enemy lines and crept up Hill 227 from the Chinese side. At a signal, Major's men opened fire, panicking the Chinese who were trying to understand why the enemy's fire was coming from the centre of their troops instead of from the outside. By 12:45 am, Major's team had retaken the hill. However, an hour later, the 190th and the 191st, totalling around 14,000 men, launched a counter-attack. Major was ordered to retreat, but refused and found scant cover for his men. He held the enemy off throughout the night, though they were so close to him that Major's own mortar bombs were practically falling on him. The commander of the mortar platoon, Captain Charly Forbes, later wrote that Major was "an audacious man ... not satisfied with the proximity of my barrage and asks to bring it closer...In effect, my barrage falls so close that I hear my bombs explode when he speaks to me on the radio."Major and his platoon held Hill 227 for three days trhough seven major chineese assault coming from every direction and several minor ones with only one wounded and no casualty until relieved by the U.S. 3rd Infantry Division who managed to break through the weakened enemy lines thanks to the mess caused by major and his men
After the war major got back to the civilian life and will live in quebec until 2008
Here,i think it's a life worthing being adapted in a movie,it enlght a country often underestimated or fortgoten when talking about ww2 and it also mess with the chineese government

What do you think ?

I am sitting here with a sore throat and am wondering about Healthcare in Lucasfilm.

Is Lucasfilm big enough that they negotiate directly with hospitals or do they still use an insurance company as a middleman?

Now this might be a step too far but if Lucasfilm gets big enough / gets enough people on board creating a private hospital might be a good idea.

A hospital with a presold number of procedures would incentivize Lucasfilm employees to USE it proactively potentially catching issues when they are easily and cheaply fixed.

From the hospitals perspective an agreed on number of procedures means being being able to have guaranteed shifts, staffing and inputs which as well as being more financially stable is going to be very attractive to certain medical Professionals.

While Lucasfilm should get first procedure spots. Offering a cheap health cover with second priority for people Bruce has helped with project lighthouse could fill the rest of the procedure spots and ensure that the hospital has flex and ongoing capacity and experience with more complex or rare procedures.

To make it a good deal for the community I would try to locate it on the new Metro line and let the newly formed LA metro have a quick win.

A quick google gets me a price tag for a 60 bed micro-hospital, emergency departmentand outpatient surgical costing 52 million in todays money. 150 beds with specialty units and extensive operating rooms clocks in for about 210 million

About 14 million and 55.75 million respectively in 1980 dollars. As a combined Lucasfilm improvement to reduce injury or health issues increase worker retention and satisfaction as well as a charitable heart outreach and drop health insurance costs it made me wonder if we should invest in something like that.

We could call it the Emerald Clinic.
