Lights... Camera... ACTION!!: A Hollywood Quest

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Magoose here one of the guys helping Duke.

So we have some bad news.

The quest has been canceled as duke does not want to write it anymore.

I'm going to ask if I can take over for it, because I like this quest, and it would be a shame to kill it
TBF, Mags, you have been doing a lot of the heavylifting for the quest, so this will be in good hands. :)

To be clear to everyone, this is just me burning out on imagination of the quest, since my muse has been hitting me over the head a lot with so many different ideas that I just can't find myself too interested in this.

I'll still hang out here, though, since this still does have a sepcial place in my heart.

I'd like to thank you all for making this a wonderful experience while it lasted.

I'd also like to thank @Magoose, @Fluffy_serpent, and @Martin Noctis for doing so much to help prepare and write this quest. I couldn't have done it without you all. :D

I'll see you all around.

With so many regards, Duke William Of.

Oh I'm fine with it not being a part of the 616 Universe. Marvel has a multiverse after all, and this can only help expand their range on what they make.
Why do i have the feeling by the time Spiderverse rolls around, Nick Fury will have already kidnapped a team to deal with this mess, fail and then get into a team fight with Miguel and the Spider Society...

Because Comics and Fanfiction are starting to blur at this point. and I love it.

Is it just me or does Sufficient Velocity lean heavily into Socialism or Communism?

(Please don't linch me:V)
Yes, both SV and SB lean heavily towards progressive or hard/far left politics. I know SB is like that because they purged their right wing staff after some internal drama that I don't fully understand, though I'm not certain what led to this from SV and can't speak to that.

In Britian however, there is a hilarious thing happening. Most major organizations discovered obscure laws and ordinances about men needing to train to be longbowmen, and many people are beginning to form longbow clubs so as to not "break the Queen's laws"

As for Bruce... He is widely considered one of the best long swordsmen and Melee fighters in America, despite only having basic training. A

"…In part thanks to a certain Hollywood actor and the ambitious "reenactors" Obecity trends amongst the youth have seen an incredible reversal as crowds of teens flock to their local gyms hoping to represent their country in the first international "Grand Tournament" the likes of which the world hasn't seen since the end of the 16th Century.

You had to be There
You had to be There

Name redacted of the British embassy - after a few drinks and been dared to play up the British toff for the interviewer.

You simply cannot understand the impact of a properly managed Tournament on someone with the history and bloodline to truly appreciate it.

Often what you get up into a tizzy about over this side of the pond has only the faintest relation to the truth. Take King George, for example. Over in Merry Old England. He is known as George the Farmer, known for his unusual interest in the welfare of The Peasants. Yet here in the colonies You depict him as some sort of mad tyrant due to some minor miscommunication over tea.

So when My Master heard that there was going to be a reenactment of sorts, well we just had to go and see how you would get it wrong. It had been decided that there would be no way that you would have anything approaching the authenticity of something that you would find in Britain or even a lesser performance on the continent. You simply don't have the history. We were all set to go and have a good sneer when you colonials went and surprised us.

My master was most surprised to find the sheer quality of the work, the authenticity, the passion. Why we were so surprised my master nearly dropped his sneer. Tents were constructed properly. Layouts reasonable. Crowds were mostly dressed in appropriate Attire. And the melee, the fighting itself followed most fascinatingly.

Most combat is done by people who have no idea of what they're doing, with tools that barely resemble the genuine articles. Credit where credits due, though this is usually due to a sheer lack of knowledge and appropriate bloodline for most event organisers rather than seemingly wilful ignorance. But for those who have access to genuine manuals because their bloodline goes back far enough, it is easy to see the Inadequacy's of ones lessers.

Inadequacy's that were barely on display here. It was such a refreshing change to see that for once Something had been done correctly in the colonies. Of course, we couldn't let something like that upstage us which is why we have petitioned our Dear Queen for the return of several of our habitual privileges. It was simple overenthusiasm that led the Honourable member to be accosted by the constabulary over the small detail of arms and armour being worn in the halls of government.

It is certainly not the first time that those hallowed halls have seen such sights. Indeed it was so common as to be unmentionable. Really. Did you perhaps think it was a coincidence that there is a Mace at the end of the table where the Prime minster and the Leader of Her Majesty's Honourable Opposition sit? Or that said table is just wide enough that a swordfight cannot be conducted with any kind of effectiveness across its width?

I am sure that Her Majesty the Queen will see value in the Honourable Members reasonable request and it shall be delt with forthwith. I expect presently the flower of British Nobility will show you Yanks how to properly hold a tournament. There is nothing quite like the magic, the pomp and ceremony of a proper British tournament. It simply cannot be put in words only experienced.

You simply must be there.

Harold Jones Junior - CPA

Had I gone anywhere else that weekend it would have been a betrayal. I am a hobby blacksmith when I am not an accountant. Accounting is not a bad career, but it has never made me feel as alive as the pounding of molten metal on an anvil.

My grandfather worked for Bethlehem steel taking long hours so his son, my father, could get an inside job. He was a hard man my grandfather, but he was there for me when my father was taken in World War Two. He kept working so I made it through college, the first in my family and here I stand today.

Growing up I remember my grandfather talking about the metal coming off the rollers in the steelworks like it was almost alive. I never understood what he meant until I saw a country farrier at work building a set of horseshoes when I went to help sort out a farm's finances.

I was hooked. I had to know more. There is something right about swinging a hammer and forging steel into what you dream, be it horseshoes, garden gates or swords.

In the past Blacksmithing was a respectable profession. Each town needed a priest to care for spiritual needs and to do the bookwork. Now I don't believe in anything more than I can see and my career is about doing that bookwork.

But each town also needed someone else. A blacksmith to sharpen tools and shoe horses. When war or conflict happened they also needed someone who knew how to make weapons too. We remember vaguely what the church did. They were the ones writing down the histories. But do we remember the blacksmiths at all?

That is why when Bruce O'Brian gave us the grant to reconstruct lost techniques, I needed to see it acquitted personally. It was important to work with my Fellow blacksmiths to preserve what we could and replicate what we could not. In this increasingly automated age important things are being lost. The sense of peace a man can have with a forge and a piece of glowing metal to work on is one of those.

I won't pretend I am quite as dedicated as some of my fellow blacksmiths. I do purchase most of my steel, not render it from rocks found hiking. But my swords were being used to rediscover lost arts themselves not just being display pieces. Then there was the meet up of the blacksmiths and talking about our passion to someone who understood your passion.

Finally seeing Bruce O'Brian, decked out like a knight out of a storybook. Going out and using the things he threw money at us to recreate. Seeing the crowd and the excitement. It felt good to see a grant acquitted that well. It was money well spent and money that will continue to be well spent.

To truly understand you had to have been there. Now if you will excuse me I need to get back to my report.

Sophie Jones – Archeology Undergrad

To be or not to be that is the question. Yes I live for Shakespear and acting, movies and cinema. But for those who really know me my passion is history.

I love Excalibur. It is not only a brilliant movie on its own merits it is realer than many of the countries. People would have fought like that raw and dirty and real. Anything for the win in the and then justify your actions with a Flowey speech once victory was achieved. Little details like that Matter.

But how do we know? Consider Shakespeare, the most well known playwright of medieval England. he has plays and sonnets aplenty to his nme but as he signed his name differently on different works some people are still unsure if he actually existed. Yes, his plays where performed in London when Queen Elisabeth the first was on the throne. But what did that really mean? Was Shakespeare the actual writer or was he a cover for a far more noble author such as the queen herself who could not be associated with thee works due to societal pressure? if so was it commonly done and have the plays we have assumed where written by middle class where actuly written by thr uper class ? if so that would complety chage out outlook in life in that period.

Going to recreations like this running them and finding the gaps, Finding out what we have lost is fascinating. We lose what was commonplace so easily, the little details that everyone knows so it is never written down anywhere because of course everyone knows what it was and what it meant. Everyone will always know it and you would have to be some sort of fool not to learn something so basic.

But times move on, and we do forget. Things that were vital once are no longer needed.

What was the last time you needed to light a hurricane lantern? Do you know how? Why would you we have lights and light switches and reliable power supplies.

So little things are lost, until someone looks at a hurricane lantern and decides it must be some sort of self-watering vase that works poorly and as superseded by better designs. Until knowledge is lost.

But if the power is out and a hurricane is moving in as happens all across the Midwest wouldn't you like to know how to light the hurricane lantern in the storm cellar?

That is why this event is important, why people should go to and participate in things like this. So important things are not lost. So you don't have to have been there to understand.

Martin Jones - Recent catholic convert

Be rad to see it again.

I Thought it would be something Rad to See. And man, it was, the armor the weapons the bright colors. But what really got me was the ceremony. This is ancient stuff, like following Stuff set out more than a thousand years ago and passed down the ages since. And man, it felt it. The bishop Ordering the Knights to Kneel and he Does this prayer In the old style for a Just fight. Shivers down your spine man. Like you were not just seeing this one old Man yell out over the field because the Mike was broken or something but like it was history being made again? Yeah?

And that wasn't the end of the Rad Stuff the Catholics got up to.

They dug up a genuine catholic bishop and some catholic priests and nuns. And they decked them out like they would have in medieval times. They went out and set up in the crowd dressed in those old timey outfits with their staff and stuff and stated preaching sermons about the threat of the godless Varangians and Yuan In the east and how if we didn't turn from our wicked ways and give alms to our returning militias and the Alien who has been delivered from those foes. Fire and brimstone but with a twinkle in their eyes. Yeah? Well I got back and read up on what the historical stuff was.

Blew my mind man. A old timey Style sermon about how the commies are evil and that we should help our vets and the Cubans and Vietnamese. It blew my mind yeah. Like normally the church I go to is this guy in a business shirt promising miracles and that you will get rich if you worship hard enough. Only that never seem to happen and week after week he says stuff that don't sound right how he really needs donations for a jet so he can spread the word of God.

This? Priests dressed up in the old style giving old blessings and telling us the ancient solutions to the supposedly new problems we have ? That felt real man. Like sure you could give the priest money if you wanted to but it wouldn't go to them. What they wanted you to do was go and see your local veterans and make sure that they where ok. That the Vietnamese and Cubans were settling in well and getting the help they need to be real Americans.

It felt real man and that's why I am going to the Catholics now. It feels real. It feels right. it feels like history, like yesterday and today and tomorrow. It feels real.

I'm Tellin this wrong.

You just had to be there man.

Kermit Smith – Vietnam Veteran

There are many reasons to compete to fight to risk yourself and the reasons are as personal as they are varied. The fighters are often ex miliary or ex-convicts or ex drug addicts or just wierdoes who live In the woods and don't fit in anywhere else.

Some are here for the historical accuracy side. Who didn't dream of being a knight or being rescued by a handsome knight growing up? Some their love extended into adulthood or are trying to escape to a simple time. Others are simply from the sports side. This is what all other sports pretend to be or try to prepare you for. You fight your hardest don't have to hold back and do it with real weapons.

Everyone here has their own reason for doing it. For me and many of my fellow veterans this is therapy. It helps with PTSD. Having a real fight, a real danger and knowing that, being able to see or focus on the "enemy" means you are not swinging at strangers in a supermarket.

For others its because no one judges you on anything other than your ability to fight. on the field your opponent is this hulking mass of plate chainmail and a blunted weapon. Thats all you see, that is all there is. No skin colour, no check of your bank balance or education, history or CV, no girls kept out or told they can't try. You don't know anything when you face them covered in armour on the field so you have to give them the same as you would give anyone else. That gives you a honesty that you won't get elsewhere. Heck, some of the guys are even "Friends of Dorothy" if you know what I mean. While I won't go home with them, "lord of the bedchamber" was a real medieval title so if they are here to fight that's fine. If they are here to re enact that's fine too. Just as long as the rules are followed.

The aim is to leave hurt but not injured. You will have bruises, but real injuries are accidents someone will trip or have a leg go the wrong way and well that's no worse than you could get playing basketball.

So why would I go to a place surrounded by people who only judge me for my ability to fight, who support what I want to do who don't mind me swing around real weapons and engaging in my nerdiest hobbies. Who get it who get me. Who understand. Where there is a chance to go against Bruce O'Brian in a friendly Fight and see if he is the real deal as a fighter or only an actor with a heart of gold.

Trust me he is the real deal. I think camera seven has him going though me and a few of my buddies like a buzzsaw thought a bowl of noodles. Nothing was faked it was all real. Don't care what it looks like on camera at home, trust me it was real.

Don't believe me? No skin of my nose. I am going to the next one and so are most of my buddies, yes even David who dislocated his shoulder.

It was worth it Maybe, like eating a bowl of Noodles, you just had to be there to understand.

Interviews collected for an article titled "The Noodle incident ( you just had to be there)" by William Watterson for the Cincinnati Post.

Bill was seeking background information while attempting to draw a political cartoon involving Bruce O'Brian after he received the presidential medal of freedom, fronted Congress and increased PBS budget by 25%, Won the title of Worlds strongest Man and Released what is widely considered THE Arthurian movie. All before Before entering and winning the HEMA event that would be cited as the reason HEMA would Gain international Prominence. This was all achieved by the end of May 1981

Movie Pitch: Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book
You know, when I first saw Disney's animated version of The Jungle Book...well, I didn't like it. I don't know what it was but I just found it to be too childish, and even boring. And I was a kid at the time! Heck I remember seeing an adaptation that was not as good in animation like Disney's, and yet I ended up loving it all the more because it actually felt a bit more...serious? loyal to the adaptation? I'm not exactly sure, but perhaps it was that they showed Mowgli grow and actually face Sheere Khan by both fire and blade in order to defeat him.

Overall, The Jungle Book just didn't seem to be a good movie...at least until I saw the 1994 Live Action adaptation.

Truly, the first time I saw that movie it was like I finally understood what the entire hoopla about the movie and the book was all about (of course, I read the book later and was horrified about what happened to Mowgli and friends, but that' another story). Though I can understand how many others don't like the film, and many liberties are also taken, in the end I think it's a lovely adaptation, and a very fun adventure to have as a movie for the releases of 1985.

Thus, I bring you:

Movie Pitch:
Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book

GENRE: Action/Adventure/Romance

SUBGENRE: Drama/Thriller

FORMAT: Movie

Set Up: An adaptation of Sir Rudyard's Kipling stories of Mowgli from "The Jungle Book" and "The Second Jungle Book". The story follows Mowgli, the son of a widowed guide (Nathoo) is lost in the jungle during an attack by wild animals (among them Sheere Khan) due to the unlawful attack by poachers on the animals. Mowgli grows up with his animal friends, until the day he's found by a group determined to find the riches of "The Lost City of Hanuman" in the jungle, and plan to use Mowgli to find it.

Director: Robert Zemeckis
Composer: Basil Poledouris

Mowgli: He is the son of an Indian Jungle guide named Nathoo who was guiding a group of soldiers led by Colonel Brydon. He and his daughter, Katherine (nicknamed "Kitty") are very close friends and show deep affection for each other. She gives him a special bracelet that had belonged to her mother. After his father is killed by Shere Khan, the jungle's guardian who seeks out anyone who break the jungle's laws, Mowgli and his pet wolf, Grey Brother were lost in the jungle and presumed dead. They were found by Bagheera who took them to be raised by a family of wolves and befriends Baloo, the big brown bear.

Played By: John Stamos
Alternate: Val Kilmer

Katherine "Kitty" Brydon: She is Geoffrey's daughter and William Boone and Mowgli's love interest. She, like everyone else, thought Mowgli dead when he disappeared in the forest. Growing up, she found him once more though she did not recognize him until she saw he still had the bracelet she gave him the night he disappeared. She tries convincing his father, though he refuses to believe it at first, but he agrees to try and teach Mowgli the rules of "civilized society" once more. Soon, she and Mowgli grow fonder for each other, though that is interrupted when her father engages her to William Boone, causing Mowgli to return to the jungle.

Played By: Joanne Whalley
Alternate: Kim Cattrall

Captain William Boone: He was one of Colonel Brydon's most loyal soldiers in the British Army and a skilled hunter who was doing an expedition with the rest of the troops in India. Boone is an arrogant man who does not listen to what he does not wish to hear, and tends to belittle those under him while kissing up those above him in rank. He's a man obsessed with position and money, trying to marry Katherine for her beauty and connections, uncaring of what she thinks or wants. His rivalry with Mowgli eventually leads him to his death, as he enters "The Lost City of Hanuman" and is killed by Kaa, the Python King.

Played By: Sam Neill
Alternate: David Naughton
Colonel Geoffrey Brydon: He is Kitty's father and the narrator of the film. He is an old friend of Nathoo, though he does not seem to care much for the jungle or the animals in it. He has the same biases that typical British aristocracy does, though he tends to be fairer and more compassionate rather than abusive. His desire for Kitty is for her to be safe and happy in England, which is why he announces her engagement to Boone. He changes his mind later on, after Boone kidnaps him along with his daughter, revealing he's been behind the recent bandit attacks, as well as Mowgli aid when rescuing them.

Played By: Don McKillop
Alternate: Christopher Walken

Dr. Julius Plumford: He is a doctor and surgeon in service to the Colonel, a man who appreciates all of British culture, and is usually seen teaching a group of British women and Kitty as well. He's a man who enjoys seeing those under his charge learn, as seen with both Kitty and Mowgli when the latter started learning the ways of "Civilized Culture". A man who follows the Hippocratic Oath, he is compassionate to his patients, and soon befriends Mowgli and his animal friends, tending to Baloo when the bear had saved his life and Geofrey's as well.

Played By: John Cleese
Alternate: George Wyner

Lieutenant John Wilkins: he is Captain Boone's direct subordinate. A coward who tends to lose his nerve if he's faced with direct opposition, he's also an opportunist who does not hesitate of taking advantage of anyone in a weaker position. He's disdainful of Mowgli because of his upbringing, but also because Mowgli managed to intimidate him and ruin many of his plans as well. He's also disdainful of the jungle and the animals inhabiting in it.

Played By: Ray Wise
Alternate: Peter Weller
Buldeo: He is one of the two tour guides but tries to hunt a few animals with the help of two British officers under Brydon's command, which leads to Sheere Khan's attack and Mowgli disappearance. Later on, he aids Boone in finding "The Lost City of Hanuman", as well as capturing Mowgli and the animals in the jungle.

Played By: Stefan Kalipha

Sergeant Harley: He was a soldier working under the command of Colonel Geoffrey Brydon for twenty-five years. He was evidently (as pointed out later on) never satisfied with not making profit from his duties and would later team up with William Boone during the British Army's expedition in India. In addition to his imposing physique, Harley was a very unstable and violent man.

Played By: Robert Wuhl

Tabaqui: He is a very tall and fearsome man. Tabaqui was an experienced jungle guide working for Captain William Boone and, along with Buldeo, he had ties to the village's underbelly. He and Buldeo tell Boone of "The Lost City of Hanuman" and how Mowgli must have knowledge of how to reach it.

Played By: Anirudh "Ajay" Agarwal

A.N.: Like in the OTL movie, I think we can make use of trained animals for the movie, showing the interactions with Mowgli and the other humans. I liked that the animals did not speak in the film, it just made them more interesting, and at the same time more alien in their interactions with humans alike.

Finally seeing Bruce O'Brian, decked out like a knight out of a storybook. Going out and using the things he threw money at us to recreate. Seeing the crowd and the excitement. It felt good to see a grant acquitted that well. It was money well spent and money that will continue to be well spent.
Where there is a chance to go against Bruce O'Brian in a friendly Fight and see if he is the real deal as a fighter or only an actor with a heart of gold.

Decided to have some fun with the AI Picture Generator, these are the results:

While I wanted something closer to Italian Fullplate Armor from the Late Medieval Period*, these are unfortunately the best results out of the bunch (#3 is my favorite by far tho). Like the last time I did this, Colin O'Donoghue was used as the main, human reference.

[EDIT: *Imagine something that's the blend of these two: Venetian Fortress and Light Calvary.]
[EDIT2: Alternatively, imagine Laios Touden from Delicious in Dungeon with a proper helm and that's close enough to what I imagine Bruce owning.]

You and Mike both looked at each other, then towards Francis. "Alright, shoot Francis, why are you making things so difficult and why do you want to begin pre-production now?" You asked.

"Simple, Star Wars is coming and I need to be able to get that done before you and George and Steve become engrossed in it." Francis replied.

"But that's the problem, this kind of pre-production can take years-" You started before mike threw down binder of concept art.

And then Francis showed two more. Including the script.

Oh… it was like with George. "How long have you been working on this?"

"On and off… bout a year," Francis said as he smiled, and you thought this man was insane. "Turns out when filming wrapped early with that devil film, I had a lot of extra time on my hand before post-production was finished. So for those two months prior to finishing the project, after I got the work done there, it just became, not an obsession but a job. One that I think we can do."

You frowned and looked to Mike. "Don't tell me you agree with this?"

"He's very persuasive," Mike replied. "And it would be another feather in the cap if we succeeded. And we will succeed."

"And what part do I play in this?" You asked.

"Producer for one thing." Francis said. "Steve said your good luck. And I have the perfect role for you, given your reputation."

Oh no. "Please tell me we're not going to be-"

"Yes, we are." He said with a smile.

You then saw Denis Murin at the door. "We got those schematics ready."

Oh no. "You have everyone?" you asked.

"Everyone," Francis said.

Oh no, this was going to be something.

Reward: Pre Production of Dune has begun. Dune actions are now available. You have been made producer and need to help Mike and Francis.

All of ILM has been mustered for this film.

And according to Mike, the budget is over 55 million dollars.

And Francis is going all out on this.

-[X]The Voice of Bruce on Animation: "Wow, you guys are really doing something special… whats with the cameras?" DC: 30 Rolled:D100 => 59

Tomino was smiling at the cameras. "Wait what with the cameras?" You asked.

"Well-" Don then looked to Tomino. "We wanted to show everyone how we do things for a first time voice actor. To help train and to make things easier on the production side, and to make people more comfortable with the booth and how we do things."

"And you are using me as a guinea pig?" You asked.

"Yes, because if you can do it, anyone can." Tomino said as he gave a smile.

SP:D100 => 80

Eh… maybe.

Reward: You did your lines for Gundam, and than… well it was that. You didn't think you did a very good job.
---------------------------------------------------------------
-[X]George Lucas and John Lasseter and the Cold War in the Office: Don. John. Now is not the time to start doing things stupid. "George help me out here!" DC: 40 Rolled:D100 => 87

John and Don were both at each other's throats. "This is not animation, animation requires actual talent!"

"No, this is talent, just like artistic pursuits, it just requires a different medium of expression!"

George and you were sitting in this room watching those two argue. "George, we should we do something?"

"I'm just waiting for them to stop, but they've been at it for two hours." George said.

This was getting boring. "Gentlemen!"

Both men stopped. "Listen, I understand at least somewhat, where the tension lies." You then looked towards John. "You are doing something so cutting edge, that we barely have a word for it, and honestly, that is quite fine because we're still trying to figure out where it goes. But you can't claim that it can kill hand-drawn animation like that."

"Don, there is nothing wrong with tradition, but you can't just stop the usage of technology because you think it isn't right. With your way of thinking that is."

"So both of you just get along, before I send you to Japan Don, and keep you there."

You sighed. God, you needed that.

Reward: You stopped the two of them from tearing the company apart through sheer will.

George was impressed.
--------------------------------------------

-[X]Basil of Baker Street: You look at the boys and smiled. "Mary's going to love this." DC: 30 Rolled:D100 + 20 => 102

Well now, that was… something else.

Take that Disney!

(Continued in Basil of Baker Street)
----------------------------------------------------------------------

-[X]Distributing Deals: Since you have a Distribution Company, or rather, are one… You can meet the major movie theater companies and strike a Deal with them. Even when you had nothing to offer them. DC: ???
--[X] Romania. Accident. Rolled:D100 + 20 => 36

Mike was actually pushing for this to wait until next month, or later on in a less busy month, so that other films could released.

AKA… he's after that money, and wants nothing more than to keep it from screwing up Lucasfilms films…

Failure.
---------------------------------------------------

-[X]Getting Control of our Lives: Carrie frowned as she looked at you. "I had a dream last night. About what my life would be without you." Rolled:D100 + 30 => 101
"I had a dream last night. About what my life would be without you." She said as you both lay next to each other in bed.

"You don't have to say that, I'm here." You said.

"But you weren't and that was the worst thing that could have happened." She said. "I was so lost, and even though I had some success it was never stable or good, and the many brief moments of happiness were fleeting."

She hugged you. "I was afraid."

And you could say only one thing. "I love you."

"I know."

Reward: Carrie is alright. Thank goodness.
------------------------------------------------------------

-[X]Mary vs NASA: So Mary and Mike have been trying their best to do something fun. That fun being, they might have revolutionized space travel. Well Mary did. DC: 50 Rolled:D100 => 99

You looked at Mary's box and realized that she had drawn a rocket.

And it was a detailed schematics that she was still carefully drawing on and expanding, and almost everything was impossible to meet.

Yet… there was something else. The NASA people called Mary the brightest and smartest computer they had ever seen, and she possessed an almost innate knowledge of problem-solving, because she had no preconception or notion of what is right or wrong.

She just saw something on TV one night, and then she solved one of the greatest problems currently known in space travel.

A newer, more robust… space rocket. And Mike knew about it, because of course he did, your daughter trusted him a lot with things that were seemingly groundbreaking and impossible.

You sat down with her and smiled. "Mary, why did you make this box of rocket schematics?"

Mary smiled. "It's a secret daddy!" She said.

"But is it a secret that you want to keep for yourself?" You asked.

"No." She said, looking down at her feet. "But I wanted to wait until after star wars to show you it."

"But why would you want to do that, was that Mike who wanted to do it?" You asked.

"Yeah, he said that it would be a great big… boon." She struggled to find the words.

You sighed and knew Mike was going to be the death of you. Or at very least the reason you have grey hait. "But why did you make it?"

"I don't know?" she asked.

You frowned. "You don't know why you wanted to make a spaceship?" You asked.

"I want to go to space, and I think they can send me to space!" She said with a smile. "If i help them, maybe I will."

At that you smiled. "I know you will."
-------------------------------------------------

The NASA people as you called them were looking at you and Mary as you sat them down. "I can't let you take the schematics, not yet at least." You stated.

"Your daughter has the possibility to revolutionize space travel and you say that you can't?" the leader asked. "How utterly-"

"It's because she thinks it isn't ready yet." You replied.

"It doesn't matter, because we can find the flaws-"

"No, you can't." You said. "Because if something goes wrong and people get hurt, she'll have to live with that. And i won't let her. Especially if she's wrong."

Mary looked at you. "Daddy, can I?"

"Sure Mary." You said.

Mary went onto her tiptoes and then pointed to the picture on the wall, that of a Nasa poster. "I want to be an astronaut, and when it's ready, I want you to make me a promise, I will be able to go to space!"

There was a chuckle. But it was one of good humor rather than malice.

"That will take a lot of work." the leader from NASA said.

"Daddy could do it." She smiled. "And if Daddy can do it, I can too."

Reward: NASA saw some of the prototype blueprints but Mary won't let them go, not until she thinks they are ready, and after Star Wars. Because she made a promise.

NASA knows she wants to be an astronaut… and they know she might make a damn good case for her to literally build her own rocket.

Also, NASA are calling her the most brilliant computer in the world…

-[X]Game Shows: You want to go on a Game show, you are sure that Lucille might get you in on one of them. DC: 40 Rolled:D100 => 8

You thought that celebrity game shows were still a big thing. They are, but they didn't want you, because they were afraid the backlash would be… huge.

Failure.
---------------------------------------------------

-[X]A Well-Known Fan: So some really famous person is a fan of yours. Maybe you'll learn who they actually are. DC??? Rolled:D100 => 88

A Well known Fan: D20 => 14

You received a letter from one… James Cameron, an Indie Director who worked in UA, who is now part of Fox, working on something that is heavy and big on the effect.

Also, it had some no-names in it, so that was fun. But he said he was a massive fan, and really wanted to have a great time. See he was told that ILM wasn't able to work on his film, and of course, he begged in the letter, so you sent a team to help him.

Some fucking horror film.

But hey, you got a team to him.

Reward: James Cameron, while under contract, is a huge fan.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-[X]Investments: You want to invest your hard-earned cash into something that you feel will be a good return on investment. And as well as diversify your assets DC: 0 (Linetail what you wish to invest in below this action, and the amount of money you want to invest in)
--[X] $50 Million. You want to survey the Los Angeles area and try and find some good apartment complexes to purchase. Your old complex has been doing great, and can see a lot of potential in the real estate market, not to mention providing some good quality homes for local renters. Rolled:D100 => 24

You are starting to think you made enemies within the LA area who really want you to keep out of expanding your assets.

They buried you in so much red tape and legal jargon, that the Lucasfilm legal team was scared.

Failure.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

-[X] A Charitable Heart: You want to invest your newfound wealth. Maybe even save some lives while you are at it. (Linetail what you wish to invest in below this action, and the amount of money you want to donate in)
--[X] O'Reilly Foundation. $30 million. This Memorial Day, you want to do something good for veterans by helping them connect with service animals who can provide physical or emotional support, especially for those suffering from PTSD. Work with the O'Reilly Foundation to rescue animals from shelters and help them find a purpose and good home with veterans. Rolled:D100 + 50 => 148

To think, it all began with a little bit of nudging to stop some animals from being killed in the LA area. Then there were the simple things that many kill shelters across America were still there, and they would be…

And those animals would not be able to help. Ir get help.

It took some calls, but it also took a lot of twisting of arms and money to get into the right campaign funds…

And telling PETA that you were trying to help animals, rather than… well let's just say you swore at one who came for your cat.

Anyway, when it was getting those animals back to America, or finding them, many of their handlers were distraught to find that many of them were just put into shelters and than given to them after they were retired, with a lot of them being killed.

But you managed to make things right, try to at least.

And most animal handlers who retired were able to get their animals back.

The ones that weren't were able to get new animals, new friends that could help them.

Reward: Your efforts have borne fruit.
--------------------------------

-[X]Modeling (Advertisements): Thankfully another Call Came in, one from an ad firm. They need you to have some pictures taken so that they are used for saner things. Like selling cars, or ice cream. DC: 40 Rolled:D100 => 33

You blew off the modeling gig to be with your family.

Failure.

-[X] Invite Mom and Dad over to California for some nice family time. Little Sarah and Joseph should get to know their namesakes and you can just have a nice small vacation. Rolled:D100 => 92
-[X]The Family Time: You need a night out with the family dammit! No more drama, no more work, just you and Carrie and the Kids! Rolled:D100 => 7

You looked at your parents as you smiled as the two toddlers waddled around. "So, how's it been?" You asked as you hugged your mom. "Sorry for not doing more calling."

"Oh it's fine, your father decided to use all the extra acting money he got to try and open up more Whales. And he thinks he'll succeed."

"I know I will, don't you think Sarah?" Your father said as he picked up Sarah and spun her around.

Charming. He was so full of life and unlike much of the other times he was around. Well it was like life was reinvigorating him. "Well? Dad loved the restaurant business, and learned a lot." You replied. "But… There seems to be a but. Whats going on?"

Your father continued to play with his grandchildren before your mom sighed. "Your father and I have been having some troubles."

"What kind?" You asked.

"I've been thinking about doing missionary work again." She said. "But your father thinks that's not the best idea."

"Dad not wanting missionary work? Who is he and what has happened to my father?" You joked.

"No it's just your father is getting old, and he's… having trouble keeping up." She replied.

"What happened, is it his back?" You asked.

"I don't know, but he's been getting weaker, and he's not slowing down to compensate. Well, he is now, but he's also… I don't know."

"Stubborn." You asked.

"Yeah. But I think he's overdoing it." She replied as he started carrying around the twins and facing off against Mary in her Dragon costume. "The whole slowing down."

"Maybe Dad has had too much adventure in his life. And it's catching up." You replied.

That earned a laugh. "I know. But I think he'll live forever." She said.

You both watched everything happen.

It was nice.

"Come on Bruce, I need some help capturing the dragon." Dad said as Mary was crawling all over him.

"And then I'll make some steak."

Reward: You and your parents spent time and it was nice. And you had a lovely dinner.

AN: enjoy.
