I am glad we didn't try and go for tricky wording.

That... is distinctly not a major loss in public against a social wizard. Go team.

I'm inclined to agree that we need to talk to her; by all measures, she knows more than she's let on, and now there's the little winkle that she has telepathy.

She figured out what really happened at the Sealing and IMMEDIATELY became less prickly...
If so, then...

Woot! Exactly as I had hoped.

Remember, Papata is anti-Sealing, openly so, and has been so for years. Publicly defending the official version of the Sealing would have been a disastrous mistake, one of the few things we could do that would genuinely give her an incentive to make the interview hostile.

Now if we're lucky, we can privately convince her that it's a bad idea to try and pry this particular issue open on national TV...

Our goal here is to convince her that we have very good reasons to not go public with what we know about the Sealing, Dandeer, and Jaffur... without actually telling the professional interviewer about it.

Remember to treat any microphone as if it were live.
We'll be having this discussion entirely by telepathy methinks, though that wouldn't stop her from sharing what we told her and having herself Mind Delved to confirm it.

Communication [Kakara vs. Papata]: 78 vs. 72. Pass.
Improvise [Communication, Kakara vs. DC]: 61, Pass.
Communication [Kakara vs. Papata]: 89 vs. 67
Communication Kakara vs. Papata]: 107 vs. 98
Communication [Kakara vs. Fren]: 78 vs 237
You know, I wonder if we're suffering maluses to these rolls. Because we're gaining +50 or higher to our communication rolls, and if we're not suffering a malus, we rolled badly.

It might be cancelled by her higher bonus.

Though surprisingly we've consistently been beating her despite her better skill, except in her own specialty which means that she's actually rolling worse than us.

I think we might get a bonus because we're actually giving her what she wants? Also, I don't think that's how bonuses work - both numbers just get their bonus, because there's no benefit to adding an extra calculation step (find the difference in the bonuses and add to the appropriate side, as opposed to just add the bonuses to the totals.)

Maybe she is getting a penalty because she has to softball things because we are the scion?

Papata might not have quiiiite so many traits stacked up as we do. We have a LOT of traits.

Also, note that only one of Papata's rolls was in the "HAX, I CALL HAX!" range that suggests that her exploding dice triggered. Since she has to roll at least a 70 to trigger exploding dice, it seems unlikely that her roll of 237 was the result of rolling three dice- more likely that it was a very high roll (say, 90-100) coupled with a mediocre roll (say, 50-60) coupled with her existing bonuses.

Which in turn tends to affirm the "she rolled low" result.

[all numbers are rough estimates]

Personally I hope for the exact opposite. I hope that she's going to be able to convince us that we need to get out in front of this and clear the air.
