It seems to me that while telling her that what we saw is not our secret to reveal might alienate her a little, though that's unlikely since she already knows there are secrets we can't tell her, telling her we suffered a great personal tragedy might inflict unnecessary stress on her as she tries to be a good friend and help us through our grief over an event that, strictly speaking according to the wording, didn't actually happen.

This is basically the argument I was going to make. Lying to her right now is pointless. Especially since it is an easily verifiable lie.

Granted we are already lying to her a lot to preserve the masquerade, but that is my point. Why lie to her more than absolutely necessary? We're supposed to be her friend. Friends might keep secrets, but they shouldn't outright lie to each other.

I feel like this is how bad comedy movies start. A "harmless" lie that leads to a misunderstanding that starts a whole series of ridiculous events that could have been avoided if we had just told the truth from the beginning...

While I don't think that she would try to help us mourn since our great grandpa surely died before we were born, after thinking about it, this might be better. Not because I don't think this merits a lie but because it would be an easier lie to let her believe we saw someone else's secret and we don't want to breach their privacy more than we just did by gossiping about it.

People lie all the time for that purpose. Kakara already does with the masquerade. Karen is not even our real name.

You are taking a stance that says that lying is bad unless it protects people like the masquerade, in which a big lie is used to protect from a great danger. But then you are against a minimal lie to avoid hurting your friend's feelings even though it also helps avoid suspiscion of the bigger lie and secrets we are telling.

I mean, I am not saying you are wrong or anything since you are free to believe what you want but the stands you sometimes aim for make it hard to understand you. They seem kind of small when in comparisson to other choices we make.

...you do remember I was the one that originally suggested the option and that I pointed out when somebody made the vote that it defeated its purpose with how it was written, don't you? I think I know what the original purpose of it was.

I do admit that it could be better as I did in the post you quoted and I do admit I had forgotten about the telepathy when I first mentioned it, though.

No, actually. Oops. I'm just frustrated at the group's bizarrely stubborn refusal to do five minutes of precautionary prep work before committing to an irreversible course. Twice.

Actually, this isn't necessarily true. I personally knew two of my great grandparents before they died, one of which didn't die until I was well into my teens. I even have nieces and nephews who've met their great-great-grandma. It all just depends on genetics and lifestyle.

And how early each generation has kids, of course.

This actually raises a question for me.

We know that the current Lord or Lady steps away from their position when the Scion has a child who a Seer appoints as Scion.

What happens, then, if the new Lord is in his late teens, and still has grandparents alive?

For instance, if we were to grow up to about 18 and have a baby that was named Scion. If our Father is still alive at that point (likely), he'll take over our Grandmother's position. What will happen to her, should she still be alive?

Would it be possible for a Royal House that tended towards children young to have four Super Saiyans? Five? Is it just a matter of convention that former Lords/Ladies stop going SSJ after their grandchildren become Lord or Lady?

Multiple Matriarchs/Patriarchs ensue, and share duties. They all get to go SSJ.

It's been more than 24 hours since the last vote. @PoptartProdigy , I think you can call the vote.

So on the topic of how power levels work. The latest episode of Super seems to assume that SSJ is a set power level. Goku was only "barely enough to beat freeza" in Beerus' estimation in SSJ1. Which kinda fits with the databooks that assume 150 million is the PL of Super Saiyan.

Unfortunately that doesn't really jive with FPSSJ. So who the fuck knows. Probably not even Toriyama.

By the by, everybody, the vote is closed. A reminder: it was by line, not plan. Therefore, going by Aranfan's tally, this is our winner:

[x] Tell Maya that we Saw something that is one of those secrets we can't tell her.
-[x] Tell Dad Everything via telepathy.
[X] Going forward tell:
-[X] Sensei Carrick
-[X] Grandma
[x] Yes (allow the reveal)

Actually, it would have been the same even if I'd tallied by plan. Hm. You all didn't forget, did you? ;) The update will not be tonight; first I have an update for my other quest, then I have a character sheet for the RP I follow to write (three, actually, not that I'm doing more than the one tonight), I just got done crafting a vote in a CKII quest complete with budget analysis and exhaustive option analysis, and beyond that will be sleeping very soon.

But the update will happen, of that you may be assured.

Hope it goes well for her and she heals quickly!

Work on the update when you can. We'll be here when RL lets you breathe.

Lord Berra of Goku
You glance between Dad and Maya for a moment before settling on your friend. You grimace. "I...Saw something that's one of those secrets that I kinda can't tell you about I'm sorry I know you want to know but I can't." You devolve into a mumbling rush at the end, giving her an apologetic look. She still flinches and looks down at her feet.

You yell at yourself mentally before sending Dad a poke. I Saw the Enemy.

Dad immediately goes pale. Is it coming?

You shake your head slightly. No. It was the Death of Earth.

Dad relaxes again, glancing at Maya. Tell me everything. Later. "Oh, that's not something you have to keep secret, Karen," he says aloud. Maya looks up. Dad glances at her and says, "She saw her Grandpa dying. Not a secret. Family stuff, yes, but you don't have to keep that a secret, Karen."

Maya shoots a horrified look of sympathy at you. You glare at Dad. Gee, thanks. Now I have to deal with this.

A smirk flickers across his face. You'll cope.

He then claps his hands together. "Alright, girls. I think that's enough excitement for one day. Maya, you can show me how strong you are some other time. For now, let's get back to my house, where it's warm." He puts two fingers to his forehead and reaches out towards you. "Coming?"

Grandma, I have news.

What is it, Kakara? Something to do with Jaffur?

I had a vision.

* * *
Sensei, I Saw something.

Well, congratulations. Have a cookie. I saw things too, today. Why, there was a spider on my window not five seconds ago.

Not
seeing, Sensei! I Saw something.

Gah, I know, I know. Did you manage a directed vision this time?

No. Pastsight. I couldn't stop it.

Really? Well, you're good at stopping them when you don't want them. Must've been strong. What do we have?

I Saw the Enemy.

...are you alright?

I'm...okay. Now. I had some help. Can I tell you at our lesson this weekend?

You'd better, girl. For the upcoming week, you suppress
everything, you understand? I don't care what you See, you step on it. I'm saying this as your teacher, not your someday subject. Suppress everything. Understood?

Yes, Sensei.

Good girl.

Ultimately, your vision changes little. It's the most information you've ever had about the Enemy, but mostly it just reinforces what you already knew: it -- he -- is dangerous. Terrifyingly dangerous. You already knew that; there's not much to be done just right now. But really, the reason why nothing much changes is simple.

Dad was already resolved to reveal Maya to the Clans.

This only makes it more urgent, he tells you as the two of you fly above the ocean towards the South Pole. You only get visions like this if they're relevant. Now, maybe it was Gohan's statue that was relevant. Maybe it was some other small detail that we're overlooking that was relevant. Why hasn't the Enemy come after us already, for instance, if he told Gohan he was going to? We don't know. But the most obvious conclusion is that the Enemy himself is going to become relevant within your lifetime.

It could be that voice that saved me,
you suggest.

I would like nothing more, but that voice wasn't the vision you received, says Dad. He interrupted your vision. The Enemy was your vision. And if he's going to become relevant...we have to be ready. To be ready, we have to be strong. It's time to start building up again. Not Super Saiyan 2. Not yet, not that we even know how if there's a special trick. But we need to centralize authority, so that we can start making our moves in earnest.

I know, Dad,
you reply. I think the same thing.

The two of you crest the latest patch of horizon and come into view of Maya. She waves.

I remember, says Dad. Just...justifying it to myself. I was acting very rashly, last week before you had that vision. On reflection, I'm not doing anything differently, but looking back I was acting recklessly. I saw a chance to start my old plans of re-establishing authority back up again, and I took it. Barely thought at all. And having thought about it now, I'm still going to try to do that. But I...I need to be sure.

You glance at him. He's gazing off into the distance.

You look away, swallowing. I understand, Dad.

The two of you come to a halt, your auras winking out as you draw up to Maya. Dad smiles at her. "Hello again, Maya. Did you have a good week?"

She nods. "I did."

"Good. Now, things got a little crazy last week, but I do still want to see how strong you are. Can you show me?"

She nods, slowly at first. Then she glances at you. She looks back at Dad and gives him a much firmer nod.

She drifts away and inhales. In the moment before the rush, you say a brief goodbye to the old way of things. After today, nobody will be able to forget that your family is nobility.

Maya clenches her fists, hunches up, and begins to yell, her hair blowing wildly in the sudden cyclone of ki around her.

"HaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"

Her ki flashes once, bright white, in the center of her chest, and then snaps outwards into a full aura that buffets you and your Dad.

And in response, you can feel the ki of countless saiyans the world over flaring in startled reply as Maya unknowingly tears apart the old order.

No vote this time, folks. In the next update, we backtrack a couple of weeks to take up the adventures of Number Three (remember her?) as she tries to mend fences with Mato. The repercussions of this moment won't be showcased until much later on. I'll be along with a vote-bearing update tomorrow or the day after. For now, though, this concludes the Maya arc of this year.

Regarding the link a few lines up -- I can't speak to the long-term survivability of that. "Misterioso" is a fantastic song, but some *sshole team of copyright attorneys has been going around handing out copyright strikes like candy. Same thing happened to all of the Attack on Titan music a few months back. My apologies if this link dies in the near future.

Enjoy, everybody!

So... did we fail the roll to get sensei to teach us? Since there was no mention of it, I mean.
