We don't actually know if KO and KC have those side effects though. That's speculation on your part. On the same vein, we don't have any indication of there being a ki system.
You could make an argument that the side effects Goku experienced after the fight with Hit ib the universe 6 tournament points to that but I am reluctant to use the phrase ki system since there doesn't seem to be any physical part of the body that controls it

Looking at these analogies it would appear to me you could "in theory" mix all three of these techniques, but such efforts would be very unsafe due to the sheer strains involved on your ki system.
There's also the issue of Possible detection by the Enemy, which could come with higher levels of Kaio-ken.
Overcharge and refinement seem safer in that regard so focusing on them might be the better idea, plus they seem less risky to use with Super-saiyan.

That's where my thinking was going. Based on current Exile knowledge and the mention of what would happen if we studied SS2, there does seem to be a power level concern.
The thing with these techniques is that combining them together would be absolute hell on your "thumb" I'd think, since you are trying to constrain a faster/larger flow.
Just taking these two techniques the thought occurs to me that they seem almost incomplete. Like there's a "set" we could develop, and one or more of the pieces is missing. Jaffur's Refinement works at the "nozzle" in the metaphor, constricting the flow with a "thumb". Tabe's Overcharge sounds like it works at the join between the hose and the tank, at a sort of "pump", increasing it's power. Too me, that leaves the tank feeling a bit lonely. So I figure if there might be some way to either enlarge the tank(this likely already exists as endurance training), and compress what is stored in there.
So! My thinking is that to complete a hypothetical "set" we(or someone else) would need to develop a way to increase the longevity of the tank. The obvious consequences of this are being able to use Overcharge for longer, and a more speculative effect might be that it affects the "density" of the stuff we force out the nozzle increasing it's impact in another way.
E: might also want to work on the hose to so it doesn't "pop" or something in this metaphor.

I pretty much agree with all of this.
But I do think we should look into Kaio-ken to see if we can apply the ideas behind it to other things.
Also it could make a decent last resort against stronger foes.

If we're looking for possible PL boosts, one thing I've always wondered about is Kikoho. If you can burn life force to fuel blasts, could you internalize that energy, and use it like normal ki? Essentially, transmuting life into PL? Something to look into, as we're going to (probably) be mastering Kikoho anyway.
[X] Seal him in a less imposing physical body, with his powers sealed as well (somewhat harsh, renders him almost completely harmless while still giving him physical freedom. Implement chibi Dazarel).
[X][ASK] What happened with those rebels who tried to kill the scouts? Was any progress made in the investigation?
Investigation hit a dead end, actually. By anything you can find, the rebels worked alone and unprompted. General suspicion has led your father to keep them alive for further questions, but the pressure for him to set a date to execute them is mounting.
[X][ASK] Is Clothes Beam a known technique among the Exiles?
Nope. Sorcerers say they can't do it, and nobody else has managed, that you know of. Of course...there are a few houses that work in tailoring...[/tinfoil]
Completely Without Consequence
You expected chanting.
A spell of this magnitude, channeling this much power, and you expected there to be some chanting going on. Some ominous, rhythmic utterance to lend some rhythm to the procedure.
You have been cruelly disappointed.
Instead what happens is that the sorcerers form a polite, orderly line, and all walk past Dazarel touching him on the forehead while you hold him in place.
"I was expecting a lot more than this," you say, numb.
"Yeah, talk about a letdown," says Yammar, snorting.
"Not everything is exciting and grand. I suppose little Kakara has a monopoly there, today," says your grandmother, ruffling your hair.
"Hey!" you snap, jerking your head aside. "Focusing, here!"
"Right, sorry."
"Tone, young lady," says your Dad, sounding vaguely scandalized.
"Focusing," you say, staring down at the dragon.
Dazarel thrashes and roars as another sorcerer passes by. IT BURNS! IT FEELS LIKE SOMETHING HOT AND WET DRIPPING DOWN MY SPINE! STOP IT!
You sigh. "Why does it have to be so unpleasant?" you ask.
The next sorcerer, a woman with grey actually tinging the roots of her hair, snorts as she overhears you. "It's not. The mountain-sized dragon is whining." She smacks him on the snout.
He shrieks in fury. WERE I NOT BOUND BY A BEING GREATER THAN EITHER OF US I WOULD EAT YOU ALIVE, MONKEY!
You pat him. "I know this can't be fun for you."
"Not fun?" You think this is as simple as -- gah! -- that? His eye rolls up to look at you. You're making me a hatchling again! How would you like it?
"You're asking me to put myself in your shoes, now?" you say, raising an eyebrow.
He snarls.
You sigh and look at the next sorcerer in line. "Is this really all that it takes?"
"Yup," he says, tapping the dragon on the head before skipping back. "Have you ever picked up a pen?"
"...yes...?"
"It's that easy. The is the single most easy-to-apply concept we have. The more obvious the application, the easier the spell. He has power. We want him not to. So we seal it. Pretty much a direct connection there. Impossible to fuck up-"
You Dad coughs meaningfully.
The sorcerer wilts. "Er, sorry sir. Anyway, Scion, it's impossible to mess this up unless you're not clear on what you're doing. And I'm pretty sure I know what we're trying to accomplish here. At this point, the only purpose of everybody doing it is that it amps up the protections, and every little bit helps."
He steps away, and you go back to watching and waiting.
* * *
By the time they finish, you're actually getting worried about running out of time. Dazarel went still and silent long ago, waiting for your strength to suddenly weaken.
Then a tap comes at your shoulder. You glance up; it's the sorcerer who laid out your options.
"Scion," he says, nodding. "We're ready."
You nod, straightening. "What do I need to do?"
"Just donate ki," he replies, laying a hand on Dazarel's head. "I'll be coordinating the spellwork, and I'll spread it around as needed. I just need you to hold the dragon down while we work."
"I'll be getting weaker," you say, frowning.
"I know," he says. "So will he, though. At this point, I'm just priming the spells we put into place; I can trivially block off his psychic abilities first of anything. From then on, he's merely quite powerful, and you can manage that until we seal his ki and his physical form."
You nod. "Alright, then. Tell me when to start."
He shifts in place and places his hands in a seal on Dazarel's forehead, setting his feet. "Whenever you are ready."
You take a breath and look down at Dazarel. Are you going to fight me?
He's already staring at you; for a moment, he says nothing.
And then you feel his psychic powers lashing out with every ounce of strength, backed by ki, struggling to do something to your head.
Your gaze sharpens, and you flare. The world turns gold, and you hang in the center of it, crushing his attack and bringing unbearable force down on his skull. "So be it." You place your hand on the sorcerer's shoulder.
Dazarel shrieks, his powers going mad. You counter a thousand attempts at freedom, even as you feel your ki burning -- no, draining -- at insane speeds as you begin to pour it down your arm and into the sorcerer's body.
He grunts under the blow, and in a moment lines of light spring out from him, connecting to every sorcerer in the crowd. Then he focuses, staring down at Dazarel. Supercharged Magic (DC: Haha, when they said that this was foolproof they meant it): 1,472.
Slowly, the psychic thrashing grows weaker, and Dazarel's voice picks up a thready quality. You deflect probe after probe, feeling the race in between your weakening abilities and his.
In the end, his lose. You feel a last, desperate attempt at raking psychic claws across your throat, and then the thrashing dies away completely. A good thing, too -- the glow is dying out as the energy of the Genki Dama sinks into the spells affecting Dazarel's body.
He shrieks, his voice wobbling in tone, and looses ki blasts. You catch them with your own ki, not even moving, and squash them. His tail thrashes, and you snag the tip as it whistles past to hold it in place. He tries to knock you away with his wings, and you knock him silly.
All the while, the sorcerer stares, focuses, and casts.
And then Dazarel begins to shrink.
Slowly at first, and then with increasing speed, the dragon simply grows smaller. From the size of a mountain to the size of an oozaru and smaller yet smaller still -- until the Genki Dama is spent, you and the sorcerer are huddled shoulder-to-shoulder, and the only thing you're holding is a winged lizard the size of a particularly impressive cat.
The sorcerer's fingers, long held in that awkward-looking arrangement on Dazarel's forehead, splay wide, and he intones, "Seal."
And with a flash of light...it ends.
The sorcerer steps back and away with a satisfied smile. "It's done." He offers you and the other nobles a shallow bow. "My Lord. Matriarch. Patriarch. Scion. Happy to serve." He then steps off, leaving you all with the dragon.
Dazarel lays limp in your hands. You lift him up to eye level, peering at him. "...I know that you're awake."
With a thready, high-pitched screech, the dragon lunges forward out of your hands towards your face. Startled, your hands phase into place, catching him by the neck and dragging him back out to arms reach.
LOOK AT WHAT YOU'VE DONE TO ME!
You blink. Despite the size change, his mental voice is no less impressive -- a booming, raspy baritone in your head. You shake your head and scowl. "Don't do that again."
He makes a reedy noise and belches a tiny fireball into your face. You power up just as it bursts on your face. The smoke clears. You run your thumb along your cheek. It comes away black with soot.
Your eye twitches.
Dazarel seems to wilt in your grasp as you transform and bring him to within an inch of your face. "What. Did. I. Say?"
He goes limp, looking away from you. With a snort, you toss him into the air. He frantically opens his wings, tumbling into a graceless flight.
"That's adorable, but he's going to be trouble," says your grandmother.
"I liked it better than the other options," you say, scrubbing at your face. Mostly. You're not going to talk about the other idea you had. You glance at the sorcerers as they begin to disperse, satisfied in their work. "Are...are they really just going to leave?"
"Certain lords and ladies, in the past, have made it their business to set the standard of sorcerers being improper company for nobility," says Berra, glaring at Yammar. "They're used to getting out of sight whenever they aren't needed."
The Patriarch sighs, folding his arms. "Penitent above, don't look at me, boy! I never did that!"
Your father grunts and looks away. Then he sighs, banishes the anger from his face, and walks up to you. You yelp as he hoists you into the air, dragging you into an exuberant hug. "I am so unbelievably proud of you, Kakara."
You turn red. "Um. Thanks."
Your grandmother chuckles. "Seems we've managed to forget the biggest event of today in all of the excitement," she says. "Kakara...how on Earth did you manage that? People have been studying the Genki Dama for centuries!"
You're actually quite glad you're already looking away. It saves you having to be obvious about doing it to hide your expression. "Just...came to an epiphany," you say.
And then something odd happens. Your father stiffens. You hear a tiny gasp from your grandma.
You look at them. "What?"
But the moment has already passed, and grandma is shaking her head with a rueful smile on her face. "Just like that, hm? Incredible."
"You seem to have a flair for the dramatic," says your father, holding you out at arm's length.
You puff your cheeks out, kicking your feet where they hang in the air. "Dad! Put me down!"
He smirks. "Why? You're not that heavy. Yet." he makes a sudden, exaggerated expression of exhaustion and drops you, snagging you just above the ground. "Then again..."
You turn crimson. "Dad! You could bench Garenhuld! Cut it out! And I'm not heavy!"
He snickers, letting you down. "No, you aren't. You are getting bigger, though."
Grandma hums in agreement, looking you up and down. "Yes, growth spurt well in swing, by the looks of it. In another couple of years, you should be done." Her gaze sharpens. "And by the look of it, your mother will soon need to take you out to get a-"
"GRANDMA!" you shriek, everything above your collarbones crimson. You fold your arms tightly as she and Dad begin to laugh at you.
"So she is still mortal!" says Yammar, smirking. "And here I wondered."
You turn on a heel. "I'M GOING NOW!"
Their laughter follows you as you stalk away. You walk past the dispersing remnants of the crowd of sorcerers and into the devastated plains, and keep going until you're quite some distance off from the site of Dazarel's defeat. As if the thought of him summoned him, you hear the swishing of tiny wings as he begins circling you overhead. You look up and lock eyes with him, and the two of you spend some time staring at each other. Despite the loss of his psychic abilities, Dazarel is no less expressive, and you can read the resentment in his eyes. You glare back, folding your arms.
At some point during all of this, you feel and hear Maya approaching you from behind. You speak before she has the chance to. "I've never had a fight that hard before."
You hear her stir in surprise before settling down. She says nothing.
Your fingers thread together at your waist. Completely coincidentally, they rest over your regrown tail, coiled there. Silence falls. You stare at the dragon. Maya stares at your back. Only the flapping of wings breaks the stillness, as Dazarel comes in to hover in place in front of and above you.
You look down and away, sighing. "I don't know what to say to you right now."
"...when were you going to tell me?" asks Maya. She's not stuttering, for once. You don't know how to read her tone.
You swallow. "Today, maybe. Tomorrow, at the latest. I've been waiting for the chance for years. I was going to do it way differently."
"...ye- years?" says Maya.
"Yeah," you say. "I thought about telling you when you first told me about your ki. I asked my dad a few times to let me. But we've kept the secret so long, and...it took the dragon coming. At first we were going to tell you so you'd know in time for Tamar, but the dragon coming pushed it up."
Because you would at that point discover what they'd been hiding without their involvement, if you were curious, little mouse girl. It was that or render you unconscious for the duration, which apparently was somehow less desirable then availing themselves of an obvious vulnerability in a state of considerable emotional distress was.
You glare at the lizard. He glares back.
"...is- that true?" she asks.
"It was my dad's reason," you say, still scowling at Dazarel. "For me...like I said, I wanted to tell you a long time ago. I would have, if Dad let me."
"...you couldn't have told me anyway?"
You tilt your head back, eyes closed. You sigh. "My father is the Lord Goku," you say in Vegetan-esque cadences. "He rules our people to keep us safe and expects obedience in its turn." You sigh again. "And he's in charge of me. The Masquerade has kept us safe for over three hundred years. Clan Goku -- my Clan -- doesn't respect its Lord as much as Clan Vegeta does, but the Lord is in charge when it comes to keeping us safe. I could have told you, but it would have gotten us both in big trouble. And I do respect that rule." You turn to face her. "I'm -- I'm sorry, Maya."
She stares up at you. Your knuckles turn white as you clench them together.
And then something in her expression goes firm, and she begins to walk forward.
You blink. "Wha-? Oof."
She hugs you around the waist, hard, leaning into you. You stare down at her, wide-eyed. After a long moment, you return the hug, releasing a shuddering sigh of relief.
"You said you aren't human," she says.
"...no," you reply.
"Wha- what are yo- you?"
"I'm a saiyan," you say, fresh dread for her reaction settling into your shoulders. "Or, well...kind of. Saiyans were a warrior race of aliens a long time ago who were almost wiped out. Some of the survivors married humans. My people are their descendants."
She doesn't reply, for a long moment. When she does, you barely hear it. "So...there are nice aliens."
"There are," you say. "Saiyans weren't very nice, though."
"...but you're nice."
You swallow past the sudden lump in your throat, leaning your head down on hers. "...yeah. Guess I am."
You feel her smile. "I...I was...right."
"You were."
The two of you stand for a long moment. Then, she says, slowly, testingly, "...Kakara."
You go tense. You nod.
She nods too. And then she leans into you. Not a lot -- but that little more that's left for her to lean.
You let out a shuddering breath and hold her tight, as Dazarel snorts in disgust at the display and flaps off, into the distance.
"Still friends?" you ask.
She lets out a sigh that sounds almost like disappointment. "Yes."
"...best friends?"
And then something happens that's never happened before. Maya...laughs. Snorts, really. At you. Not at a joke, just...at you. "Yes, Kakara," she says. "Best friends." There's something rueful and exasperated in her tone that's a wonder to hear from her.
You have absolutely no idea what it means.
But you know that here stands your best friend...and she's forgiven you.
As the wind begins to stabilize from the disruptions of the fight and the echoes of the battle finally die down into distant, hollow silence, that is the single most important thing in your mind.
What is the first of these things, to all of which you will eventually get, that you do following the battle and your reunion with Maya?
[ ][AFTER] Go visit the Misfits. You need to tell your other friends what's going on.
[ ][AFTER] Lay down some ground rules with Dazarel about what does and does not constitute proper behavior.
[ ][AFTER] Follow up with the people of Garenhuld regarding what just happened.
[ ][AFTER] Go to your people. They will want to see you, right now.
[ ][AFTER] Go home to your family and reassure them that you're alright.
[ ][AFTER] Visit Sensei. Dad said he checked in, and Sensei was doing alright, but you're still worried.
[ ][AFTER] Find an isolated spot and visit Jaffur to update him on what just happened.
[ ][AFTER] Write-in.
What are the ground rules on chibi!Dazarel's behavior, aside from not injuring people and not being a walking, flying infohazard?
[ ][CHIBI] He can be out in front of humans. Garenhulders are scared of innovation and the unknown, but for whatever reason they're really easily convinced that new things are in fact old things of which they have simply been previously unaware. You can easily come up with an excuse which they will buy.
[ ][CHIBI] He can be out in front of saiyans, and reveal himself only to humans you personally approve. Garenhulders are easy to convince about new things being old, but you don't want to have to en masse, and if the scouts pick up a TV broadcast where the insolent lizard showed his face, and broadcast it to the wrong person...
[ ][CHIBI] He is to be refused all contact with people save on your sufferance. You're not going to refuse to give him any contact -- assuming solitary confinement even works on him like it does on saiyans or humans -- but you're going to personally vet each and every conversation he has.
TWO-HOUR MORATORIUM. THESE VOTES ARE NOW CLOSED.
Reputation Gained: The Spirit Saiyan! At the moment where Garenhuld was the most threatened in the history of the Exile, you recreated the legendary Genki Dama and channeled the combined ki of Garenhuld in a moment of shining, transcendent glory, securing the victory and your place in the legends of your people. Your star, long ascendant, can finally be said to have eclipsed Jaffur's, as you at last have surpassed him in the Exile mindset as a warrior Scion. You are viewed with outright awe, and in some cases worship, by your fellow Exiles.
Victory Gained: Wyrm of the Void! Dazarel, a mighty and savage dragon, came to Garenhuld intent on genocide. You stopped him. Not only did you stop him, you did so by way of reinventing and perfectly controlling the legendary Genki Dama. Not only did you do so by way of the Genki Dama, you did it non-lethally. Not only did you do it non-lethally, you did it in such a way that rendered Dazarel harmless. NOT ONLY did you do it in such a way that rendered him harmless, you managed to leave him physical freedom while you were at it. A more complete victory would be hard to envision.
Relationship Updated: Maya Webley!
The goodies, they are out in force...
Hope you had fun fighting the dragon, folks. I did as well; Gave me some ideas on how the quest should proceed, going forward.
See you around.
EDIT: Okay, apparently, "POST," is a valid tag on the forum software for hyperlinks. Lessons learned...
Because you would at that point discover what they'd been hiding without their involvement, if you were curious, little mouse girl. It was that or render you unconscious for the duration, which apparently was somehow less desirable then availing themselves of an obvious vulnerability in a state of considerable emotional distress was.
You know Meditation is something a lot of people with similar fighting styles and beliefs to us turn to in dragon ball, Piccolo and Gohan both do it, as do many others.
It could be interesting to see if we get anything from meditation while "feeling the grass"
I think we need to deal with the Garenhulders straight away. Victory or no, the cataclysmic battle is going to have roused so many hackles. If we don't deal with this we can expect many nations to ramp up research and production WMDs in response.
Did not really go into detail on the topic in the update, but Spirit Saiyan burnt Kakara out. She's powerful enough that Dazarel can't scratch her, but she is exhausted along multiple axes at the moment, multiform among them (now, why Spirit Saiyan exhausted her ability to multiform might be an open question, but it is what it is).
To be fair, Kakara was doing a LOT of things at once, or nearly at once, by summoning up the Spirit Bomb. Perhaps her ability to multiform is in some way contingent on her ability to multitask?
In descending order of priority...
1) [AFTER] Lay down some ground rules with Dazarel about what does and does not constitute proper behavior. Because you do NOT let a chronically unruly entity get used to being unruly before laying down the law.
2) [AFTER] Go visit the Misfits. You need to tell your other friends what's going on. Because after a day like this, Kakara needs sanity time. Also will tip us off if Dandeer is messing with Jaron/Jaffur in some way.
3) [AFTER] Follow up with the people of Garenhuld regarding what just happened. Because we're a celebrity now, and the Exiles have a much better idea of what just happened than the Garenhulders do. Among other things because the Garenhulders may not actually know that we WON.
4) [AFTER] Visit Sensei. Dad said he checked in, and Sensei was doing alright, but you're still worried. Worth following up on, and this is more likely to get lost in the shuffle than the other 'big' priorities, but I suspect Carrick can weather things well for a while.
5) [AFTER] Go to your people. They will want to see you, right now. A bit of mystery and delay for speculation will do our reputation no harm.
6) [AFTER] Find an isolated spot and visit Jaffur to update him on what just happened. Telling Jaron will give Jaffur at least a clue, and we can inform him of the rest later.
7) [AFTER] Go home to your family and reassure them that you're alright. They already know; Berra will tell them.
As for the rules for Dazarel...
[ ][CHIBI] He is to be refused all contact with people save on your sufferance. You're not going to refuse to give him any contact -- assuming solitary confinement even works on him like it does on saiyans or humans -- but you're going to personally vet each and every conversation he has.

Aaaaaah that was awesome. Didn't get a Protector Upgrade, unless something trait related is happening sometime soon, but Kakara is now in the upper echelon of Exile legend.
Why am I really really hoping that Kakara has a sexuality where KakaMaya is possible? Because they are just great and I don't want Maya to be sadly holding a torch anymore.

Guh, alright, decent chance they know exactly how the fuck we just did. No idea how, we should be still warded against Mind Delves, and unless they've got background information pointing towards Heaven, it is not the first thing they should've hypothesized.
Ugh, this is annoying, actually. I want so so badly to just relax and take a well-earned break. But there are actually really solid options that could make a big impact.
[] [AFTER] Follow up with the people of Garenhuld regarding what just happened.
This one is the only non-personal one that seriously tempts me. What we just did is absolutely immense to everyone on the planet, they are incredibly confused, and we can further drive home the fact that Garenhuld just defeated the Unknown. Like holy hell this could be great, and it would be best not to delay.
Buuuut....
[ ][AFTER] Go visit the Misfits. You need to tell your other friends what's going on.
[ ][AFTER] Go home to your family and reassure them that you're alright.
[ ][AFTER] Visit Sensei. Dad said he checked in, and Sensei was doing alright, but you're still worried.
Then there is these, on top of the fact that Kakara has been really stressed and just did something immense. It's the Misfits that matter to me the most right now, just go be with our friends as far away from Saiyan matters as possible. They are going to have a hell of a lot more questions than our family.
Restrict him to Saiyan space, but not lock him up. Too much of a potential infohazard otherwise, and it would be best not to make him bitter against us.
