The thing is, even if Candace would be bad at her job, she'd still be fun to have around. And I think she's got some hidden hypercompetence somewhere deep down. I remember her pulling off some cool stuff.

It was a hard decision for me so I just rolled a coin and secure the book won.

Do we have any confirmation beyond "your opinion" that the video game is canon and that all the types of magic found in the video game are really found in the Encantus?
If you don't want to look at the original script, nor want to buy a book, then apparently not.

You could look for other people's views on what the book says, maybe look at the Sorcerer's Apprentice Wiki to see what it says.

Or use Mental Spells from the Encantus to do the same, or something similar.
It's a shame that we don't have a focus to use, so we can't actually use it.

I'd say it's fairly likely that DVV:Gridlocked uses the video game to expand on The Sorcerer's Apprentice. I don't know much about either the game or movie, but more lore is always nice to have.

Which means we won't be able to use it. We will also have to spend time reading the Encantus. I imagine that the mental spells are one of the more advanced spells.

Yes, we do need a focus. Getting a focus would be an Occult action, which is difficult enough as it is already.
You assume that we need a focus, and you say "We can't" when the idea of getting one was suggested.

How was the first focus made, do you wonder? Maybe with magic? We have multiple magic users on our payroll.

So, I went on a walk earlier and ended up randomly thinking of two things regarding the talismans here, though they've probably been brought up before:

1. On a non-Goblin turn, wouldn't Kitsune's oriental trait potentially be useful for finding the locations of other talismans?

2. Do you guys think that Feldrake could use the Yang talisman? it'd probably be really useful on expeditions if the party could just hole up somewhere defensible nearby and send him to get the lay of the land while all of them are still active and on-guard

This is disingenuous. It is a canon fact of The Sorcerer's Apprentice that everyone who is not the Prime Merlinean needs a Catalyst to perform magic.

We do not have a Catalyst. Making one is probably going to be DC 120, or more. This is for many reasons. One of the first and most important is that the Encantus likely won't give us the way to make one without us having made significant progress down the learning tree. The Morganian Encantus would have it be available right off the bat, but do we really trust our magic abilities that much? It would also be rather absurd for the QM to make it easy to accomplish.

None of those magic users have experience with magic along the lines of The Sorcerer's Apprentice. Kitsune also won't be available next turn to do it and Janna has her fun trait.

The burden of proof lies on you. Not @Simon_Jester.

You have to prove it. So, in light of that.

The game frankly isn't good. It's okay for a DS game... by itself.

It removed the Motion domain from the list of domains, so it doesn't really follow the canon of the Sorcerer's Apprentice.
The burden of proof lies on you.
I feel pretty safe in assuming that the Sorcerer's Apprentice magic used here is based off of the canonical magic system rather than being an Original Creation.

If you're saying that the magic system for the Sorcerer's Apprentice used here is an Original Creation, then the burden of proof of needing a Catalyst at all has fallen to you as well. Other magic users don't need a Catalyst in DVV canon, after all, so it'd be a bit odd for Sorcerers to need one here.

Alright, go fetch the quotes then.

Anyways, here is the quote, I got it from a transcript of the movie.
Your ring is not a piece of jewelry. It projects the electrical energy of your nervous system into the physical world. Without his ring, a sorcerer is powerless. The only other thing a sorcerer needs is a nice pair of pointy shoes.

Sure.
BALTHAZAR
Time for your first lesson.

Balthazar steps to the OPEN FLOORSPACE in the middle of the room. He raises his hands, throws them violently down --

VOOOOSHHH! Dave jumps back as a PHOSPORESCENT FLAME shoots up from the concrete floor, then dwindles, TO REVEAL...

A LARGE CIRCLE -- 30' in diameter, has been scorched into the floor. The circle is adorned with ALCHEMICAL SYMBOLS and divided into SEVEN AREAS in an arcane geometric pattern. We can tell we're looking at something ancient.

BALTHAZAR
This is a Merlin's Circle, the crucible in which hundreds of sorcerers have been made -- and hundreds more broken. An apprentice might spend ten years training in this circle. You're gonna do it in a week.
(steps into the circle)
You step into this circle, you leave everything else outside -- everything you know, everything you've seen, everything you are. And once you enter... there's no going back.

Balthazar lets that solemn thought hang there.

DAVE
So I should prob'ly pee now, then.

Beat. Balthazar glares at Dave.

DAVE
I can hold it.

BALTHAZAR
(continuing)
The circle has seven domains, each corresponding to one of the seven arts a sorcerer is called upon to master. There's the Alchemy of the Mind...

Dave gasps as Balthazar's lips stop moving but his voice continues in Dave's head:

BALTHAZAR (TELEPATHIC)
...the domain of telepathy, second sight and psychic attack. The Alchemy of the Elements...

Balthazar steps into the next domain and a TONGUE OF FIRE ignites on his palm. A FLASH OF LIGHTNING makes Dave flinch.

BALTHAZAR
...here you'll learn to manipulate fire and weater, wind and earth.
(steps one over)
The Alchemy of Motion is one of my favorites. Levitation, telekinesis, compressing air molecules to create a concussion effect...

Balthazar LEVITATES a foot off the ground, throws a rippling CONCUSSION BLAST to knock a heavy GENERATOR off a table.

BALTHAZAR
The Alchemy of Transformation...

Dave stares wide-eyed as Balthazar suddenly MORPHS INTO DAVE.

BALTHAZAR
...pretty self-explanatory.

Balthazar reverts to form, steps into the next domain.

BALTHAZAR
The last two are the most difficult to learn, and the most powerful.
The Alchemy of Space-Time is little understood. Astral projection, temporal displacement...

Balthazar takes some change from his pocket, throws it up in the air. The coin start to fall in SLOW MOTION.

BALTHAZAR
It took me 10 years to learn how to cast a "speed bump" like the one I pot on Horvath. It's said that only Merlin himself ever fully mastered this domain.

THE COINS -- hit the floor at full speed.

BALTHAZAR
Last is the Alchemy of Matter, and the famous law of physics holds true: it can be neither created nor destroyed. A sorcerer just happens to know where the loopholes are.

Balthazar holds out his palm and a SWIRL OF WHITE-HOT ELECTRONS appears over his hand.

BALTHAZAR
If, for instance, I accelerate these oxygen atoms, then let a few electrons spin off...

As a few Electrons escape orbit, the SWIRL COHERS into a DENSE SPHERE OF HYPER-CHARGED MATTER -- A PLASMA BOLT.

DAVE
(staring in awe)
Plasma... the fourth state of matter.

BALTHAZAR
And the sorcerer's weapon of choice.

Balthazar throws the PLASMA BOLT at the GENERATOR that his concussion blast already toppled over. The bolt ANNIHILATES the machine into so many shards of metal.

Dave is blown away, then realizes:

DAVE
You forgot the one in the middle.

Balthazar turns to the domain in the center of the circle. An almost imperceptible flash of regret in his eyes, then:

BALTHAZAR
The Alchemy of the Heart is the domain of emotions, love.

So do you guys think coming to an agreement on the Scrolls with Xanatos is something we can do immediately after the auction is over, or does that seem like something we'd need to spend a Diplomacy action on? And do you think we could make a copy of our Scrolls with an Occult action?
