Now that you mention it, I (and the Rei responsible for the pattern) should've seen that coming. That went dark quickly.

That accounting for turnaround? If it's a crewed spacecraft you're looking at something between three weeks and a month at one gee. Of course, the S2 engine providing unlimited power doesn't mean squat if you still need remass (because remass and fuel are different, even if most people use the term fuel when they mean remass), but based on what Asuka's saying they do't, so presumably they'd be using something other than a magsail. This leads in to the question of "If an Eva has an S2 organ, why can't it fly?"
Could be a case of "pilot didn't think of it". Some of the Angels seem to have no difficulty negating gravity.
Or they can, but the weight distribution tends to cause them to flip upside-down and getting motion sick in LCL sucks.

An Eva can absolutely fly with an S2 organ.
It's just that canon material didn't offer an opportunity to test whether this was the case.

I'm reminded of a line from "Dimension W" from a flashback of the inventor of Coils at a press conference or something. He says that some people wonder why Coils can't do more than provide electricity, and then he says the answer is "Because we have not asked them to!"
I'm reminded of the classic Star Trek episode "I, Mudd" where Spock tells one gynoid that he loves her, and then the second gynoid that he hates her. Both gynoids are exactly identical. All part of a campaign by the Enterprise crew to fry the androids' brains with pure, weaponized non-sequitur culminating in a defeat by bad pantomime(it makers sense if you've seen the episode)
Kaworu: "Did you really think I would mistake you for Rei with that hideous face?"
Rei IV: "I am identical to her, down to the most miniscule detail. There is no way you could have told us apart by sight."
Kaworu: "Fool! The real Rei is a vision of loveliness, but to my sight you have a face that could crack mirrors just by being reflected in them! Your soul is a horrific parody of Rei's!"

So many quotes I'm thinking of with Rei and Kaworu as the stars. But the very first one I thought of was that bit in canon where Rei disabled Kaworu's AT-Field with the line, "It's over, Nagisa. I have the high ground!"I read that as Darth Rei at first, and now I'm just imagining Rei and Rei duking it out with lightsabers like it were the end of episode 3

Though I'm slightly surprised Rei doesn't already know where Adam is -- if Ritsuko has already implanted Adam into Gendo's hand, wouldn't she have passed this info on to Rei? Then again, as hectic as the past days have been, it might have just slipped her mind. Alternately, Rei does know, but didn't want to blurt it out with Kaworu in the room -- no sense in dangling the wrong temptation in front of the poor boy.
So there really is a second Rei out there...
If it's animated by Rei I's soul... didn't Kaworu make peace (or at least a truce) with her during the cross-synch test? Then again, the soul fragment might not have a conscious memory of this... but it could have enough unconscious recall of the event to shake its resolve.
If Evil!Rei is running on an original, near-blank-slate memory backup, I expect she almost certainly doesn't have a strong enough connection to Lilith to channel even close to her full power, given that Rei didn't make that breakthrough until the Zeruel battle. Meaning she might not actually be able to take Kaworu in a straight fight. In canon the best Rei III was able to do against Kaworu was negate his AT-field and allow Shinji to crush him with Unit-01, which obviously isn't happening here. On the other hand, Kaworu's relationship with Real!Rei might mean that Kaworu won't be expecting an attack until he Hears that "Rei's" song is wrong, which might give her an opening.
If Evil!Rei is running on the post-Zeruel memory backup, she'll have most of her connection to Lilith, and that power... but also her relationship to Shinji and Asuka, who could convince her to stand down. Then again, if she targets Kaworu when they're separated, they obviously won't be able to do that.
If it is a post-Zeruel backup, could Gendo be actually exploiting Rei's relationship to Shinji and Asuka, convincing her that this must be done to protect them from the danger in their midst?

the Rei currently under control of the enemy is likely also still drugged to the gills like Rei was before Shinji and Asuka changed her world view, so she's likely just needs to get in touch with herself to shift allegiance, well I hope that happens but she may not be in that good of shape given what might have been left to work with

Hmmmm Unit-01 does levitate quite high in EoE in the final scenes, although at this stage I don't think pilot is in control of anything, his own will included.

This talk about the Wing Zero reminds me of another Eva fic that was also a crossover with Gundam Wing. In one battle in it, Shinji and Asuka had to temporarily borrow the Wing Zero and Epyon respectively. We all know what the Zero system can do to a persons mind. With the issues they have, It does not take a genius to realize they would have a nasty experience. Fortunately both of them over came it.
On another note if Rei 4 is evil, here is some dialog inspired by the final boss fight of Megaman Zero. It starts with Kaworu and Rei 4 doing battle for a while. After a while, this dialog occures.
Kaworu: Weak. My Rei is not this weak.
Rei 4: What!?
K: You may be a perfect physical replica of Rei, but your soul is far weaker.
R4: Silence! I'll make you regret saying that Adam Spawn. You will now see my true power.
Rei 4 transforms into a seraphim like being. The fighting gets more intense that Rei joins the fight against Rei 4. Misato ends up having to shoot Rei 4 with the anti AT field bullet. This finished off Rei 4.
R4: Why? I was supposed to be a perfect copy. How can this be possible? I was supposed to be a savior.
ReI: You are what I could have been had Asuka and Shinji not taken the time to detoxify me. Your rigid thinking blinded you to the possibility of being blindsided like you were.

I dont really expect a grand gesture or a breaking speech from Rei 4. She's exactly what Gendo wanted Rei to be, a puppet who's purpose is to be a bridge between him and lilith so he could achieve godhood and reunite with Yui. She wouldn't speak, she wouldn't ponder, she probably wouldn't even announce herself. She'd just appear in front of the group and abruptly attack Kaworu with no fanfare.
Its the darkest reflection of Rei. Who feared not being a monster, but rather being nothing. Why the concept of the Reiquerium bothered her when its otherwise beneficial to her.
The real question would be how Rei 3 would react. She would see a version of herself down the path Gendo intended for her. Would she try to save her? Or would she destroy her?
Still, not the worst thing for the group to deal with. I mean it could be wor...

Well, Rei 4 is carrying a piece of Rei's soul that she'd probably like back...
On the other hand, Rei 4 could also be considered an independent (ish?) being of her own who has a right to her own existence... or at least the right not to get plugged just for being a copy with a soul fragment.
Rei might punt the question to Shinji, Asuka, and Kaworu, unless Rei 4 presses the issue. And by "presses the issue" I mean attacks and has to be put down. (Thanks for the anti-AT bullets, SEELE Assassin Girl! BTW... can't recall if Asuka stole the whole gun, or just some of the bullets?)
