That's why I don't go to rallies any more. With wanna be Nazis and ANTIFA nut jobs running around, getting in a fight is too common. I just sit at home hoping they kill each other off and we can get back to somewhat normal.
We do have rally racing in the States; it's just that it's overshadowed by NASCAR, as are all our motor sports. (Now trying to picture how one would combine a rally race with a political rally...)
But in turn, you have the biggest Hill climb event ever: the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. In easily one of the best nature states in the continental US.
So you got that going for you, which is nice. Even if the state flag has a goofy look about it...

Yeah, that's the problem: the alt-right wants to claim Asuka as their own, when in fact, Asuka would be centre-left anarchist. I've seen this in several Evangelion groups -- they put Asuka alongside Pepe Frog and the Kekistani Flag, and they put her in Nazi Regalia, and also put her (in the case of a former friend of mine, Kyler DuClare) in a MAGA hat of all things. Asuka would have a FIELD DAY with those scumbags.
I normally avoid discussions like this, but as I told my wife yesterday, in the 1940's if there were Nazis marching on Washington it would be considered a REALLY BIG DEAL.
And I agree Asuka wouldn't agree with any of that either. She may be none too fond of her father, but that mixture of genes did get her a college degree at 14 and the skills to be an elite pilot. (Of course that's more due to nurture than nature but she doesn't know that... )

It would be an equally big deal if Communists marched, but people still fly the communist flags. Hell, people flew the North Vietnamese flag during anti war protests.
Also, trying to assign political ideals to a mentally unstable 13 year old anime girl seems odd to me. Not to mention the whole concept of Kekistan and Pepe were a massive trolling of identity politics that have spread throughout the world. Kek is slang for LOL. Pepe was some random meme that has been around long before Kekistan. It just turned out that there was an ancient Egyptian god named Kek that happened to be a bullfrog.
The entire concept was a massive troll job that somehow got labeled white supremacist, which made the dumbass white supremacists latch on, even though they had no idea what it was.
I suppose you'll be serving as further motivation for an update soon? At any rate I'm just one of the greeters. The real WAFF cul...church is inside. Don't mind the gargoyles, and try to avoid tripping into the spikes.

Up until very recently, Asuka's perspective on things like politics was much more personal than political. She was intensely focused on being the best and most elite Pilot, and not really worrying about things like taxation, government policy, or other such matters. She kind of vaguely approved of NERV as an organization because it gave her something to be the most elite member of, a perspective that might change with a few more years of adulthood behind her to consider the implications of how much she was used.
It is only now, after she is in a relationship and has more friends that she cares about that she has started to really look up from her very self-centered focus. she will probably end up with some very firm opinions about civil liberties and the rights of people to tell their government no, tempered by Shinji's kindness and broad compassion, and Rei's... unusual nature.
As a quick chime in (on the subject of politics), I have often wondered as to whether or not a sliver of patriotism could be possible for our heroes. The general idea is, patriotism is the idea of loving your country and its history, the idea of being part of something "bigger and better." Now, for someone with very low self-esteem, maybe the thought of "I am a part of this" could be very appealing, perhaps even give a sense of belonging?

I am sure In will fit in quite nicely. Here is s small omake:
Rit: So Misato, how did you find out about Shinji and Asuka's relationship.
Misa: It was shortly after Zeruel. Monday, Strip chess Shinji vs Penpen. Tuesday, Strip chess Asuka vs Penpen. Wednesday, Shinji massaging Asuka's feet while watching mecha anime. Thursday, Freaky Friday Flip Thursday edition.
Rit: Wow. That last one probably fried you brain.
Misa: No kidding. I downed a whole bottle of Snake Killer Whisky.
Rit: You must have really thought you went crazy.
Misa: Fortunately they came clean the next day. It still took me a while for it to fully click. Why are taking notes?
Rit: Just writing down ideas to try with Maya.
A large explosion rocked the house as sirens welled up. If Kensuke looked behind himself out the window, he would've witnessed a large, ominous shape looking right at him.
"So who wants to go first?"
"...Is everyone an option? Specifically go as far away from here as we could."
President of the States? Why not President of the United States? What has changed? You didn't explain. Also Section 2s not Section 2 as you are using a plural of that.
Ri: "Oh my sweet summer child." She gave a knowing glance to Maya. "Should I tell you about the time Misato couldn't figure out the Email system, and bought it down trying to get it working?"
Maybe A&T represents a Critical Success on the Kiss (communicate deeply and bond hard), whereas The Hangover represents a more normal-level success (Shinji at least responds enough that they both see potential going forward and at least lose the antagonism), with canon representing a basic fail and Veering Left a critical fail?
For what it's worth, the timeline with Inheritance and Succession also includes Reflection (NERVCorp Company Christmas Party Shenanigans, in which Kyoko Zeppelin Soryu saves everyone's bacon with help from Misato's cooking), which apparently didn't manage to merit a threadmark...
No. Yes. And not for much longer since the Apocalypse has already started. In that order:
No Lillith as described in Evangelion doesn't exist in real life we have in our prolonged study of life and the world found nothing like what is portrayed in Evangelion and while there are hypothesis that were used in imagining Lillith after Anno added them into the mix the usual SF Writer Magical Sciencetm went in just so he could write about his idea of Instrumentality.
Yes Lillith as described in Evangelion does exist in real life in the minds of people with high anxiety in some form. People with high anxiety see the world as full of superiors and inferiors. No equals exist in their minds so they think in terms of serving and ruling over other people. Because anything else is way too terrifying at the moment. When the anxiety goes down they remember who they consider themselves to be and stop looking at the world like it's a ranking board. This is the cause of so many Isekai stories with slaves in them. Anyway what is called Lillith in Evangelion is just the Control Center: a magical place/being/artifact where if you reach it and activate it you can give it a command that will shape the world to your desires if not outright take over the world. The Holy Grail from the Fate franchise is another well known example of this.
And since the Apocalypse started with Conquest not being able to let loose arrows anymore as easily and then getting ganked with the invention of the Internet the whole idea of a place from which you can enforce your will on the world/universe with no hiccups let alone opposition is being proven as the delusion it always was.
Regarding the fanfic, my main problem with the idea is that 1) it's in heavy need of refinement, and 2) the plot elements of "Shinji winds up in a yuri relationship with Asuka" are sorta kinda based purely on author appeal ("sentient yuriblob"). I might toss the idea around somewhere, but it needs a lot of work.
Yeah no you don't get to leave out the less savory parts of that author appeal. In case parts of the thread aren't aware there is a pretty common fantasy among trans-women (especially young trans-women) about a man just being turned into a woman either against their will or by a set of circumstances outside of their control. So it's not simply you wanting Shinji/Asuka Yuri. You want to write Shinji/Asuka Yuri, but with Shinji being a trans-lesbian.
If you want to avoid the less savory pitfalls of that fantasy have Shinko have the option of shaping her own body into whatever shape she wants at some point and then choosing to be the girl/woman she had become in the story up to that point because she feels that it is the real her. A lot of writers of that kind of fantasy forget to ever go back and give the choice of body to the person changed by circumstances. See Ranma 1/2 for a hugely successful story that did this with a non-binary main character.

In an omake for A-Eight, Asuka and company (and even the story's nemesis, the pimp from the series proper, Sôma) show exactly what they think of right-wing evangelical scumbags like this, people that want her to be the regent of the world, not just Japan. Needless to say, she, being centre-left, hates them and disposes of them.
Up until very recently, Asuka's perspective on things like politics was much more personal than political. She was intensely focused on being the best and most elite Pilot, and not really worrying about things like taxation, government policy, or other such matters. Asuka's worldview has been selfish and self-centered in canon and she is a lonely teenager desperate for friends and companions. She is in a state of mind that makes her very malleable and susceptible to manipulation. Is she a smart enough person to get out of being manipulated into joining something like the far right? Probably not as her social intelligence is at best stunted. She is a follower of whoever offers her the succor of belonging. Now in fanfiction if her politics get brought up they are usually some form of center-left. That doesn't mean that the alt-right can just claim her as in canon her worldview is just self-centered and selfish and as such politically closest to a centrist worldview.

Well it wasn't somehow: White supremacists are always on the lookout for culture they can claim for that movement and in the case of that particular troll job Poe's Law was in full effect so that made it easy for the White Supremacists to claim it as a genuine article of their movement.

Alternatively, one of the ideas I would like to write but am hopelessly unqualified to do justice to is Shinko deciding she wants to transition shortly before getting That Letter and deciding that moving to a new city where nobody knows her except her father is a perfect time to start presenting as female.
Judging from whom they've showed up to protest in the past, the problem is that far too many of them seem to view anyone whose politics they disagree with as a Nazi...
