So... over in Belated Battleships, someone recently made a joke about needing a Lance of Longinus to penetrate a shipgirl's Absolute Territory Field....

Which sent my brain straight to imagining Asuka and Rei dressing like Rin Tohsaka.

But then my brain (the evil ecchi thing that it is) continued on to wonder about A&T EVA-pilot bedroom talk:
"All right, baka, get over here -- it's time for Japan to invade Germany." (Yes, I'm mostly stealing this from Nobody Dies)
"Trout. It is time to swim upstream and spawn."
"Do I die after? Also, isn't that salmon?"
"...shut up and get over here."

"Morning, kids! Gee, you look awfully sleep-deprived, given that I didn't here any bedspring bouncing during the night. What, did you stay up talking all night?"
"...we got so wrapped up in coming up with dirtier, funnier, and stranger ways to describe what we were going to do... we never actually got around to doing it."

"Rei... on reflection, I believe we should remove 'Melt With You' from our playlist."
"Agreed. Now help me get this bedding to the laundry."

"Touji... stop trying to score from the three-point line and just go for the layup. You could even try a slam dunk."
"Bwuh... bwa... uhhhh... wait, when did you learn to use basketball metaphors?"
"...that's the part that gets your attention?!? "

"Wait, wait... I've almost got the perfect Tripartite Alliance pun to describe this situation--"
"Kenskuke, shut up and get over here."
"yes'ms!"

"Hey, Kensuke, you wanna go to the arcade this Saturday? Hikari's got some shopping thing with her big sister that I managed to not get dragged along to, so I'm free."

"I… hate… you… so… much… right… now," Kensuke panted.

Touji cocked his head at his friend's breathless complaint, not slowing his run at all. "Aw, come on, man. I always told ya you should come work out with me more often." The taller jock kept running easily along, hardly even sweating. "You spend enough time with Coach Kumamura yelling at you during basketball drills, a little 2.5k run like this is nothin'!"

"It is rather invigorating, to feel my body working like this," Kaworu commented from just behind them. He was only sweating lightly too. "I feel… alive, and aware of everything around me. If you look at it right, it's almost like meditation."

Touji nodded. For once the new kid was speaking his language. "Yeah, you get your head into it, and enjoy that great runner's high!" He elbowed Kensuke. "Come on, dude. Even Shin-man is keeping up."

Shinji was running along next to Kaworu, his face grimly set. He was sweating a bit more than Kaworu or Touji, but not nearly as out of breath as Kensuke. "Months of Eva Pilot training, and Asuka 'encouraging' me to work out more. We do a lot of cardio," he muttered. "And she is a lot more persuasive than Coach Kumamura."

"Still works!" Touji declared, smiling. "Come on, only another three hundred meter and we'll be the first group in! Man, I love a good workout!"

"So… much… hate…" Kensuke gasped.

The spectacled boy flopped tiredly onto the grass just past the finish line once they'd passed it, Coach Kumamura nodding approvingly as the four of them finished well ahead of most of the rest of the boys in their class. Only a few other dedicated athletes like Touji were ahead of them or close behind. Touji himself was happily bouncing around, seemingly full of energy from the run. "Ah, that was good. Now comes the reward, too!"

Kaworu paced nearby, breathing deeply as he cooled down. He raised his head and gave Touji a curious look."Reward?"

Touji waved up at the school swimming pool, on the hill above the running track. "Looking fit and glowing with sweat to impress the ladies," he said with a grin. He stretched and flexed a bit, making sure he put on a good show.

"Touji, you have a girlfriend. I have a girlfriend. Kensuke has two girlfriends. And Kaworu-kun already has half the single girls in the school looking at him. I don't think we need to worry about 'impressing the ladies,'" Shinji said, still panting a bit. He still smiled up at the pool, where a very distinctive redhead figure in a school swimsuit waved down at him and threw him a thumbs up.

"I still like to feel handsome," Touji rebutted. "I like looking good for Hikari, and making all the girls jealous of her." He waved up at his own girlfriend. "Hey, babe!"

I would say that Asuka's drill sergeant methods don't change no matter the universe... but I get the feeling that Shinji's not talking about that sort of 'encouragement' and 'persuasion' here. :p

"I still like to feel handsome," Touji rebutted. "I like looking good for Hikari, and making all the girls jealous of her." He waved up at his own girlfriend. "Hey, babe!"

"I wish I had a girlfriend..." No one heard Kaworu's whispered thought.

Kensuke rolled onto his hands and knees with a groan, wearily standing back up. "Rrrrg. Yeah, there's only two girls I want to worry about looking good for right now, Touji, and they're ok with me without needing to turn me into chiseled muscle. That's your style, not mine."

A faint call came from a blue-haired girl at the pool fence line. "Nice legs, Ken-chan~!" It was followed by a wolf whistle from the other redhead up there.

"I think they like what they're seeing anyhow, Kensuke," Shinji said dryly.

Kensuke flushed a bit. "Er... yeah." He waved awkwardly to Sayaka and Kyoko. "And ah... no, Touji, I can't go to the arcade Saturday. Sayaka and Kyoko have said they can finally come on one of my campouts, so we're going to be up in the mountains north of Tokyo-3 this weekend. They've even said they're going to try out some of my military drills." He brightened up. "Sayaka's even borrowing some real JSSDF gear from her dad, she said!"

"I can't believe you... well, number one, have two girlfriends," Touji said, shaking his head. "Who are both ok with sharing you. That's just weird. And number two, that you are doing something as nerdy as dragging them along on one of your play-army campouts."

Kensuke rolled his eyes. "It was their idea, Touji. Amazingly, they like doing things with me, and seeing why I like to do them. You like cooking with Hikari, right?"

"Well, yeah, but-"

"And she likes coming to your basketball games, right?"

"Well, yeah, but-"

"And next weekend Kyoko and I are going to Sayaka's recital. She plays viola, like Rei. Sharing interests is good, you know?" Kensuke said with a significant look.

Touji threw up his hands. "Alright, I give! You've got a point!"

Shinji laughed quietly. Kaworu made an inquiring noise. Shinji gestured at his friends. "Seven months ago they would have been drooling all over themselves, staring at the girls in their swimsuits. Especially Rei. Now, they're so caught up in arguing over how to treat their girlfriends they haven't even mentioned her."

Kaworu looked up at the pool again, quickly picking out the slender bluenette who was talking to Asuka. "She ah... does look quite striking in her swimsuit, yes."

"If I acted like that now, Sayaka and Kyoko would justifiably hit me over the head, and worse, Rei would be disappointed in me," Kensuke said.

"That scary, is she?" Touji said.

"Dude, if not for her, I would still probably be 'that dateless military otaku who keeps taking pictures of girls'," Kensuke said. "I owe her. Also, she did kind of point out to me that it was... um... not cool to do that. So it's the decent thing to do, too."

"Aw, come on, it was just some pic-"

"You want me to sell some of Hikari to the other guys?"

Touji scowled. "Don't even think abo-"

Kensuke sat back, a grim smile on his face. "I rest my case."

"Rei's... good like that," Shinji said.

Kensuke had a completely serious look on his face. "Shinji, Sayaka and Kyoko are... special. I'm going to be buying Rei the best birthday presents I can find for years for pointing them in my direction. I mean, it's not even the 'ooooh, he's such a stud, he has two girlfriends!' thing. It's... we had a good talk a little while ago. It was, um... eye opening. We're... being a bit more serious now. Long-term."

"Ah," Shinji nodded. "That feeling. I know that one." He looked up at Asuka again. "Good luck, Kensuke."

Kensuke smiled. "I think this is going to be a nice, peaceful weekend with them."

+++

Kyoko slowly dragged the muzzle of her rifle down his cheek, the front sight drawing a trail through his sweat. "So, you thought you could beat me, eh? Bet you didn't expect this! Pitiful 'warrior'! Defeated so easily by a 'mere girl'!"

Kensuke's eyes blazed defiance back up at her from the ground, where her last shot had knocked him supine in the dirt. "You may take my life, but you will never crush my army's indomitable fighting spirit!" His rifle was just a meter out of his reach, but it might as well have been on the moon for all the good it did him now.

"Your life? Ha!" Kyoko threw back her head and laughed at him. "You do not get such an honorable fate! You are now my prisoner!"

+++

Sayaka looked up from the hissing and steaming tins hung on a spit over the campfire as Kyoko marched their prisoner in at rifle-point, his captured weapon slung over her shoulder. "Good timing, Kyo-chan. The rice is almost ready."

"And our prisoner will do the dishes!" Kyoko crowed. "While we relax and watch him toil for our amusement, setting up the tents... shirtless!"

"Aww, do I have to?" Kensuke complained.

"You agreed to the stakes, prisoner!" Kyoko said with a smirk. "And you know what comes after that!" She paused dramatically. "The brutal interrogation!"

"Do I at least get some points for taking out Sayaka earlier?" Kensuke tried.

"Nope," Kyoko said. "We won, so you have to answer everything we ask of you truthfully and openly."

"We will relent to the extent of untying you, though," Sayaka said, pointing at his bound hands.

"I dunno, that's kind of sexy too," Kyoko grinned.

"I'm more scared of the questioning," Kensuke said back.

Sayaka's expression gentled. "We won't do anything crazy, Kensuke. You trust us, right?"

He smiled. "Still scary. Being that honest with someone, you know? But you were right, some serious stakes wagered on this 'battle' did make it more intense."

"Sure got my blood going," Kyoko purred from behind him. She turned him around, untied the short rope from his wrists... and then pressed a gentle kiss to his lips. "Like so, Kensuke. And remember, honest answers get rewards~."

"Yeah, still scared!" He smiled anyhow.

+++

"First kiss."

"Rei Ayanami, three months ago."

Sayaka gave Kyoko a knowing look. "Called it." She looked back at their 'prisoner'. "How many of the girls you dated before us did you kiss?"

Kensuke shifted uncomfortably. The 'questioning had been going on for a bit, and growing more personal. "Um... I don't want to kiss and tell?"

Kyoko shook her head, mercilessly. "No names, then. But you still need to give us a ballpark."

"Um... some of them?"

"More than half?"

He nodded.

"How far did you go?" Sayaka asked in a different tone of voice, one more cautious.

Kensuke hesitated again. "Not as far as we have," he said cautiously. "I never dated any of them for long enough to... feel right doing that?"

The two girls shared a look. Kyoko nodded. She turned back to Kensuke. "You are sleeping in the striped pup tent tonight?"

Kensuke blinked. "Uh... yes?"

"How many people fit in the solid green one?" Kyoko pointed at the tent to their left.

"Two?"

"Wrong, prisoner!" Kyoko said triumphantly. "It's three!" She blushed.

"What? No, that's a two-man te-" Kensuke stopped abruptly, his eyes going wide. He stared at Kyoko, then Sayaka.

They both nodded. "We... we talked about it, Kensuke. We both want to know what it's like, we want it to be together, and we want it to be you," Sayaka said, her voice a little tense. "We know you won't... treat this like a game or something to run around bragging about, like all the other guys in school. You know us, and didn't freak out about Kyoko and I being together, or any of this. You're... safe."

"And cute," Kyoko said. She was not joking anymore. "And a gentleman, like Ayanami-san said. We... we're sure about this, Kensuke."

"I just... I... didn't expect this. I don't know if I'm ready," Kensuke said nervously, his mouth dry. "I mean... if you'd told me six months ago 'two lesbians want you to jump in a sleeping bag with them and'," he swallowed, "'l-lose your virginity', I'd have thought it was a joke or a fantasy. I'd have been acting... stupid. But I... I can't act like that, not with you two. It's... not a joke anymore."

"And you're not treating it like one," Sayaka said, taking his hand. "That's one reason Kyo-chan and I decided this was what we wanted. You went out of your way to cover for us even when you hardly knew us. You even agreed to let us 'date' you when you knew it was just a smokescreen for our parents and friends. That's not a small thing."

"Sex is... I can handle the kissing and other stuff we've been doing because I know we're being honest and care about each other," Kensuke said, looking away. "But something I learned from Rei, something she told me about sex is... serious. It's supposed to be a... a... a real thing, with emotion and trust behind it, or it just.. can turn into a mess. It needs to have some love in it. I don't want to... mess things up with you both by acting like a horny idiot. I... this has all been good, really good. I like you two, more than I thought I ever would when we started. The idea I might hurt either of you is scary."

"We're a little scared too," Kyoko said, "but what you just said..." She took his other hand. "What you just said kind of shows us why we are. This isn't scary because it isn't love, Kensuke. It's scary because... it might be."

Kensuke looked at her, wide-eyed. He looked at Sayaka too, who nodded. He took a deep breath, and squeezed their hands back. "Still scary, then, but the good kind."

Sayaka's smile was a little more steady than his. "Sounds like when Kyo-chan and I went from just good friends to lovers too. I guess that's a good sign."

Kyoko tugged on his hand, pulling them all towards the tent. "It's getting dark. Let's get to bed."

The campfire burned itself out behind them. They didn't look back.

+++

Kensuke nuzzled the side of Sayaka's neck. "Well, overall, I think I liked it."

Kyoko reached across Sayaka to poke him in the ribs without breaking her kiss with her girlfriend. "You screamed my name and hers so loud I bet they heard you all the way down in the city. You were louder than me! I think you more than 'liked it'," she said when she finally broke the kiss.

"I feel warm and comfy and hugged. Neither of you are allowed to move," Sayaka said tiredly but happily from the middle. She rolled her head back towards Kensuke and demanded another kiss.

"Making jokes is less scary than admitting how comfortable and good this feels?" Kensuke tried again.

"Yur m'girlfr'nd 'n boyfr'nd," Sayaka mumbled. "'M keepin' you. Luv ya."

"Told you we could make three fit," Kyoko said, laying her head down next to Sayaka's.

"And next weekend Kyoko and I are going to Sayakas's recital. She plays viola, like Rei. Sharing interests is good, you know?"
So, Sayaka's the one that's good at viola, not perhaps some yet-unnamed childhood boy friend or something? Or am I missing something here?

And I sense some weird irony in that in that other continuity, neither Sayaka nor Kyouko are firearm users.

IIRC, said boy played violin. And neither of them are firearm users here... or they weren't, until Kensuke taught them to play army like him. :)
Bonus points for accuracy on the "post-coital-exhausted-yet-very-happy" pronunciation...
I speak it fluently. ;v

Well, that was properly adorable. My only comment is they're going to have to watch the knees and elbows in a tent like that- because the first rule of buying a tent is take one man away from the listed capacity!

Fitting Together

That was just so damn sweet... holy shit. Kyubey's cowering with fear~

Now I'm really happy to claim that Kensuke has managed to ward the despair away permanently from entering these girls' hearts.

For real though... my hands down on you, Strypgia. This whole thing has managed to very wonderful. It's making my heart bleed out.

If one would keep telling me jow you can't make "crack pairings" become more than just, well, cracky pairing - I'm gonna wave this thing and tell them that by how just much these things can make you feel when really given more than a mere thought. Which is more priceless than you think.

A two man tent can be made to fit three if they're small, very friendly, or both. Not sure about 'small' relative to Japanese adults at this point, but they are indeed very friendly, and in a quite plausible way.
