And a two obligatory mentions on Eva fan-works: the two doujinshi RE-TAKE and Evangelion 303. Both have plenty of Shinji and Asuka WAFF, mental trauma, violence... and wank material. Yes, both of them are NSFW, which is why I'm linking the TVTropes pages rather than the works themselves.

'EVA-R', 'Higher Learning', 'That Which Could (Not) Happen', 'Orchestrating the Silence', 'Evangelion: Genocide', and many more. Those are just the ones coming off the top of my head.

'The One I Love Is...' is also pretty good, if you are willing to accept a pretty OOC Rei and Asuka (only initially for the redhead).
 
I was more imagining potential date gets kidnapped, has a sack thrown over his head, and is then brought to Nerv's basement. When the spotlights turn on and the hood is taken off. All the guy sees are four evas in a controlled beserk mode, and Shinji just staring at him.

Holding Hands 1 and 2, the second part having a NSFW scene, but the overall story is quite nice. It starts with Shinji getting fed up with Asuka's taunting and agreeing to give her his best shot. The rest of the fic is largely independent scenes with alternating focus on the two characters as they grow up together. Also, Shinji the Casanova. Which, unlike the slightly heavier Holding Hands, is almost entirely WAFF and silliness.

Both of which can be found on the same site as Higher Learning.

Maybe Rommel was bad at naming fics, or moved away from what he intended to initially write?

He probably just thought that Genocide sounded cool, though, and went 'Fuck it, why not?' :p

    • Looking into Futures Freak Me Out because Motion City Soundtrack is one of my favorite bands of all time. Even though he used a quote from "Feels Like Rain" instead of "The Future Freaks Me Out" and he accredited them as The Motion City Soundtrack.

    Edit: Now that I'm past chapter one (I'm still getting used to stories that ignore or undo Third Impact), I see he's just taking a bunch of stuff from Commit This To Memory. Still weird, since "The Future Freaks Me Out" is off I Am The Movie.

    Also I'm slightly tipsy and goddamn you people need to check out MCS.

    One fic that I never see mentioned but which I love to pieces is Shinji's Lullaby. There was actually an expanded version on I think Darkscribes with a few extra scenes and stuff, but sadly I can't find it anymore.

    The first chapter was intended to be standalone so if it looks like it doesn't really mesh with the other chapters, that's why.
     
    Damn, someone please compile a full list of this fanfic recommendations when you guys are all done. XD

    In other news, I had asked this question in the DIRTT thread and figured it's relevant for this story too... What kinds of video games do you guys think Shinji, Asuka and Rei would like to play? One fanfic I read had the former two as long-time pro players of a fictional Ace Combat installment, with Rei going from total rookie to so highly skilled that she curbstomps Shinji (who beat Asuka after a difficult dogfight, and is Asia's reigning champion for the game). Another, which was Shinji/Asuka-centric, had the three kids playing one of those old-school Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games, with Rei picking Leonardo, Asuka picking Raphael, and Shinji hesitating over which of the remaining two to pick... before promptly choosing Donatello when Asuka loudly complains about one boss kicking her character's ass, and proceeding to push the game system to its limits as he went on a rampage against said boss (I think she was faking it just to get Shinji to stop dragging his feet). And then Rei beat an arrogant guy's ass in Mortal Kombat with absurd ease using.
     
    I lean towards Rei as a fan of strategy and construction games; SimCity, Transport Tycoon and the like.

    And Gendo is of course an avid Dwarf Fortress player.
     
    Nah, Gendo plays the Total War games. Everybody does what he tells them to and the endgame is a giant steamroll. It's the perfect simulation of his ideal world.

    Is this in a character notes? Because I kinda skipped those. I read this on phone, on Opera Mini, while I was in the an-hour-and-half long bus ride daily commute. And threadmarks... didn't interact well with Mini browsers, so I skipped them. Still, it does make sense, I suppose.

    Said fic: Play It Again Shinji. (And yes, DIRTT fans, the premise is uncannily similar to DIRTT's, even though it's strictly Shinji/Asuka, with Rei being treated as Shinji's sister and getting paired with someone else entirely. You may direct all questions to DIRTT's author Jake on whether this fic was an inspiration.)

    Actually, this is an interesting question, and the franchise canon does provide some hints to the kinds of Video Games that would be around in 2015 post second impact. First, let's look at the consoles/ systems we see in the show: We see plenty of Arcade Machines, Hikari owns a Sega Saturn, in the first draft of Episode 24 we found out someone in the Katsuragi House owns a Famicom (Asuka and Pen Pen were supposed to be playing something on it), and in Rebuild 2.0 we see Asuka has a Wonder Swan. Although we never see what Console Shinji plays this on (nor do we ever find out if he ever played it to begin with), Tracks 25 (You are the Only One) and 26 (Blue Legend) on his SDAT player come from the Y's RPG Soundtrack (Specifically Lilia from Ys. A counter argument can be made that these songs were picked by his father since Rebuild made the SDAT Gendo's... meaning Gendo had a thing for RPG's when he was younger, go figure).

    I believe it would be safe to say either the Console Market in Evangelion took a massive hit after Second Impact or Everyone in Evangelion is a retro gamer (Can go both ways with many characters.).

    Either way, much like Shinji's SDAT Player, we see gaming systems made before Second Impact as the dominant gaming systems. Bearing this in mind, we can now begin to deduce what kind of games the characters would probably have played. Asuka (since she plays Famicom, Sega, and Wonderswan) probably plays platformers and in general more action oriented games (and would be what we'd call a traditional gamer, since she would devote more time to gaming then any of the other characters); Shinji (much like his father if we follow the idea the song choices were his and not Shinji's) leans more to RPG's and exploration games in general (and would be a casual gamer, just playing once on a blue moon when bored since his main escape is music and not gaming). As for Rei... I suspect she would share similar tastes to Shinji, though possibly leaning more for narrative based RPG's.
