Though I do wonder what would the cast think of the technology of our 2015 compared to theirs. Think any advancements will be made after the Angel War?
Let's look at the advancements made during or before the Angel War. If those are all commercialized... well...

1) S2 tech. All energy problems solved for good.
2) Cloning and soul transfers => effective immortality treatment
3) Other medical tech, like LCL therapies.
4) MAGI computer tech
5) Dirac Sea.... wormholes? Interdimensional computing?
6) Whatever material technology was used to not make EVAs crumble due to their own weight
7) Whatever neurotech was used for the A10 clips... maybe we finally get direct neural interfaces?

Post-scarcity (anything can be reduced to energy problems) and immortality. A total revamp of the entire world.

Maybe? Or maybe not. I'm not sure where you draw your confidence from. It seems to me we can't really say either way. Personally, I think memories follow souls, with everything that comes with that. Yui clearly remembers Shinji, and Kyoko clearly remembers Asuka. The souls in the EVAs clearly are Yui and Kyoko, in fact. In that sense, Rei III is Rei II. And Yui most certainly still feels the appropriate emotions in regards to Shinji, as several instances of berserking show. So I would say Rei III did in fact inherit the emotions of Rei II. The last thing Rei II saw was an image of Gendo's face; but the second last thing was the realization, prompted by Armisael, of her feelings for Shinji. And I think Rei III picked directly up from that. Hence "Ikari needs me" - an act of love (see below).

On the one hand, it makes sense that the memories are tied to the soul. After all, neither Shinji in canon nor Hikari in A&T lost memories from being absorbed and reconstituted by the EVA. On the other hand, at least for A&T and suspected by many fans for canon, Rei's memory backups for the dummy system seem tied to her memories when resurrected. Dr. Akagi seemed concerned about effects on Rei of "restoring from backup":

"Rei, we… the recording system isn't perfect. And we know there will be… problems, gaps with any… new you," Ritsuko protested. "And your last full backup was over a month ago."

THEORY: While (in NGE) memories are metaphysically tied to the soul, they also exist in physical form as connections and interactions between neurons in the brain. This connection is seamless when a being is reduced to LCL or reconstituted from LCL; during reconstitution, the brain that is reassembled from LCL incorporates the brain structure to possess the soul's memories.

Rei's situation complicates things. Since her body is made of Particle-Wave Matter rather than normal matter, her resurrection requires installing her soul into existing clones rather than simply reconstitution of a soul into a body through LCL. Since these clones already exist, they already have a brain structure, which doesn't inherently have the memories of the previous Rei built in. The memory backup system is instead used to imprint the data from the last memory backup onto the brain of the Rei clone that is to be ensouled and awakened. Both the imperfections Ritsuko mentions in the backup system and the unrecorded memories since the last backup account for much of the "gaps" she is worried about. Thus, oddly enough, Rei's soul would have memories metaphysically "attached" to it that aren't reflected in her physical body's brain structure, and thus not readily accessible. Things like, prior to Arael's attack in A&T, her memories of being Lilith. (Further speculation: Arael's unique attack using its AT-field to probe memories incidentally created a direct experiential link between Rei's physical brain and her soul, allowing Lilith's memories to be re-experienced by her conscious mind and recorded in Rei's brain.)

@Matt R

Well, if we believe the NGE2 game, PWM entities can get tanged as well. That the EVAs and Rei clones are made out of PWM would be a nice explanation how they can even retain shape before the Contact Experiments / before Rei's/Lilith's soul gets implanted, but there may be more to that all. Which would put the idea in doubt that there is a difference between normal matter and PWM bodies in that regard. Still, your theory is kinda nice and consistent. Memories are retained by the soul, because the soul's AT Field (re)shapes the body in such a way that the brain has those memories...

However, @WC-83 clearly was speaking about canon, not A&T. And in canon, well, the only time Rei's memory was uploaded in canon was in fact specifically for the dummy plug system. What's more, WC-83 tried to claim with certainty that this means Rei III doesn't have the emotions of Rei II... when there is nothing speaking for that, and much (namely Rei choosing Shinji over Gendo) speaking against that.

I've always suspected that they use their AT Fields to act like people on a large scale or something like that.

Y'know, instead of acting like a 40+ meter-tall death robot does and crumple under it's weight. :V
Counterpoint: The EVAs were constructed without souls and hence without AT-Fields and yet didn't crumple :p

Yeah but the geofront doesn't crumble either. :V

(To be honest, none of the really huge things in NGE make any sense from the standpoint of physics but I'm too afraid of the EVAs to question them.)
Isn't the GeoFront basically just a really, really huge cave? So presumably, like non-crumbling caves do, it has enough support material. Mind, why it even didn't crumble when an EVA asploded above it with enough force to create a lake...

That was the scene I was thinking of yes.

Wait, better idea:

@EarthScorpion's Aeon Entelechy Evangelion is secretly canon and the Evangelions are just designed with fucking sorcery.

There! Fixed it, now the EVAs make sense. :V

...Now I'm bashing my head against Win10, yes. On the upside, I've copied everything over (I think), though I already hate the new keyboard. And Win10. Oh gods do I hate Win10 already.
I've heard you can configure Windows 10 to look and function almost like Windows 7. The same way you can configure Windows 7 to look and function almost like Windows XP...

You can't directly make Win10 look like Win7 using only Windows, but Classic Start Menu just about saved my sanity by restoring something decently close to a proper start menu instead of the shitshow Win10 comes with.

In other news, radar recently spotted an unknown, massive object buried under the ice in Wilkes Land, Antartica. Some early theories mention it might be remains of the impactor (considerably bigger than the Chicxulub impactor) responsible for the Permian-Triassic extinction.

The way this year's been going I wouldn't be surprised if it was a dangerous Precursor artefact that blew up Antarctica when someone poked it with a stick.

Ok, new laptop, Wilson II, is online. I've got Chrome and Discord working again, so bare functionality is GO. Now to see if my Docs survived...
To answer the discussion about the cloud and backups, I do backup A&T to GDrive, but I hadn't done the daily hit for that night when I spilled the drink, so I'd lost the part I'd literally just been writing, a tough scene I was finally happy with. A&T itself and the Christmas Special weren't backed up for that day, so we wouldn't have lost everything, just the recent parts.
I had Win7 Professional. I liked it.

Well, that's sort of self-answering: We're at page 1012. It took a year and a half to make page 300. It took less than half that to shoot to 1000. Derails can really just make the thread a chore for new people to wade through, so I try to encourage things to at least stay Eva-relevant. I like WH40K, but there are threads for it, not here. I don't mind A&T being the semi-default Eva Discussion thread for SV, since it kind of kickstarted the local revival, but not just random nattering about the Holy Roman Empire or Worm, etc.

The month-long threadban thing isn't even me. That's what happens when I'm out of touch for a day, the thread goes loopy, and my fellow Mods step in.

Anyhow... recovery successful for the part I had written. Here's most of it, just so it's now safely posted. Regular writing will hopefully resume tomorrow.

Kaworu looked around, smiling at the familiar glows and harmonies coming off the happy couples and one trio around him. Even Ayanami's glow was recovering well from the damage of the last Angel. She was smiling herself, watching a grinning Second Child pull the Third under a specific spot of the entryway to the kitchen, turn him to face her, and point upwards.

Shinji looked up, and said something. Kaworu looked towards the same spot, noting a cluster of leaves and berries hanging from a string near the ceiling. Shinji looked back down and appeared to ask a question. Asuka said something that made them both blush. Shinji stammered something back, and they both drew in close for a slow kiss.

Ayanami let out a small, happy sigh. Kaworu tried not to be too obvious about vibrating in harmony to the sound. His motion still attracted Ayanami's attention. When she turned to look at him, her smile fading away to the careful blankness she'd taken to maintaining around him since the battle, and their conversations afterward. She raised an eyebrow at him. "Yes?"

"Can you tell me what that was about?"

"That was the purpose of this party."

Kaworu cocked his head. "Surely Miss Soryu and Shinji-kun have no trouble finding plentiful occasions to kiss in any given day? Why the unusual outfit and party? And the piece of a bush hung from the ceiling?"

"Asuka informed me that the sight of the Santa outfits inspired a desire in her to take advantage of as many Christmas traditions involving lovers as she can, as she has never had the opportunity to before, nor very much enjoyment in Christmas overall. Ergo, she acquired Santa outfits for her, myself, and Hikari, and organized this party largely with the goal of what she is doing now."

"Kissing him." Kaworu looked again. "Still. Possibly trying to check his teeth for dental health."

Rei gave him a sharp look. "Was that a joke, Rainbow Trout?"

"Yes." Kaworu bit his cheek inside his mouth, trying to keep his face blank.

Rei seemed stuck for a reply to such a direct answer. "Well... stop that," she said eventually.

Rei:

Until you have widespread matter replication technology, you won't get post-scarcity. Materials, both raw and processed will become much more valuable. Livable and farmable land will also become a point of contention.

Still, a world with free and clean energy would probably be a bit more peaceful than what we have now.

Misato: "If any of you shitheads even thinks about poking at it, I will run them over with a combine harvester."
That's.... oddly specific.

I suppose I was mistaken then. And that does make sense. Thinking back, much of what I recalled could be explained by her memory not being exactly the same as Rei II's, since Rei II died in the battle she had the epiphany in. Her breaking the glasses does make sense a bit, but her confusion and crying over seeing them again is still puzzling and that's what fed my speculation of her not exactly having the same emotions that went with her memories.

Also, I never had much of a problem with Win10, save for finding things on the start menu (and I worked around that). I do hate the constant notifications though, especially the same ones everyday.

Also, if Rei slips and calls Kaworu a baka, Asuka's gonna have a field day with that. #TsundeRei

Seconding the recommendation of Classic Shell.
Though it does get better once you get it all set up and you don't have to use the settings menus as often. That's the part that really sucks compared to Win7.

The article in question.

/the fact that the extinction event mentioned is the permian-triassic
//makes it doubly funny to me

Given that metaphysical biology is pretty much this scene from Futurama I'd have to agree.

"Now remember Rei, you actually have to apply some dere otherwise the target might retreat into themselves causing them not to realize that you don't hate them until they're strangling you beside a sea of LCL."

"That's...oddly specific."
