I may be specifically shipping Jaffur x Kakara. It certainly would solve a lot of political things if the houses combined. Also they're really powerful and this bodes well for the future offspring.

Because we're Saiyans. And not fighting at full power and with intent to win either means you're warming up, or you're being rude, condescending, and insulting. Jaffur, you're so pathetic I won't even do everything I can to try to win. I have such contempt for you that I won't let you actually push your limits and train and learn. I'm not taking you seriously. I think that little of you.
No. We're Saiyans. We fight to win, we tell our enemies when we figured out how to counter one of their attacks, we tell them when we have a new trick to try on them, and we laugh when we lose and come back stronger.

The point of the spar is not winning, even though I don't see it as a net negative. The point is it's a form of social action that Jaffur just explicitly asked for. That's why I want to do the spar.

As I already addressed. The point is, 'why should we care about risks of losing for whether to spar or not?'

I just got done with several hours of child abuse prevention/reporting/detection training including about a combined hour's worth of survivor reports.

Specifically for that reason, I'm advocating a hug. Just to tangibly convince him that there exists at least one being in the universe who actually gives a crap about him, other than his own magically generated clone.

I'd like to do the spar after the chat; at least discussing the current plan for the unsealing first would be good.
We don't know how long the spar will end up taking, or how it'll effect the visit. Playing it smart the first time so we know how it do for later seems a solid strategy.

As to hug/no hug; He's spent years without much physical contact, and years before that being physically abused.
Getting him use to the idea of physical contact comes before suddenly throwing it at him.

Sparring does not seem like a good idea as a way to get him used to physical contact. Discussing how to unseal him is incredibly important but doesn't do much for his emotional needs, which I think is important because I want a non-batshit-crazy Jaffur when we finally Unseal him. Note that I think sparring WOULD be good for his emotional needs.

@PoptartProdigy , I sort of assumed the hug would be at least gradual enough to offer Jaffur a chance to refuse if he seems likely to freak out at the contact? Not some kind of glomp or something we try to force on him against his will?

If that assumption is inaccurate, then I need to revise my vote accordingly.

You don't have data on that, but generally anything goes in tournaments.

Even if Kakara intended to glomp him, Jaffur is one of the few individuals capable of refusing a glomp before it occurs given relative levels of speed. :p

No, Kakara will not glomp. Again, these two are on very uncertain ground.

Because we want to see how it does in battle and we can't train it on the hall.

Can I convince you to ask him about what happened that night? Or is that in your experience a bad idea? I mean, Jaffur seems mature for his age and if by chance Dandeer was mistaken about Jaffur trying to kill her then it would simplify things since Berra could see that in a mind delve once he is released.

We definitely have to spar with him then, and for the same reason I think we should leave off on the hugging. Rather than comfort him or put him at ease, it'll just make him really uncomfortable for no real gain - better to work him up to that once we break him out of the seal, rather than overload him with random positivity he doesn't know how to respond to.

I'd like to show him he's respected as a fighter with sparring...

But it's a unifying experience of abused children, including the ones who overachieve to have some sense of self-worth which I'm pretty sure is part of what motivates Jaffur, that people expressing value and support is always good for them.

I want to pick ALL the options that give Jaffur moral support and a sense of relief. Sparring AND hugging.

I think it's okay, but remember that we WERE told these aren't the only three things we'd get to do. I think it might be best to save that for AFTER the stuff that makes Jaffur happy, like:
1) Activities he loves
2) Positive emotional contact from a friend.
3) Assurance that we will help him and have a plan that enables him not only to be broken out but to break himself out.

Uh... anyone who actually wants 'Hug' to happen in the next update, I think we're going to have to drop one of the 'chat' actions to make it happen. We can't get four things in one update.

Poptart has assured us we'll get chances to vote for more stuff, but for all practical purposes, voting for "chat A, chat B, spar, and hug" is little different from voting "chat A, chat B, and spar." At least, that will remain true unless several voters who didn't include 'hug' were to go and switch one of their existing choices OUT for 'hug.'
