On a different note, you guys realize we just integrated the Stallion Tribes after 71 updates. That is somewhere around 600 to 700 years. They are the last remnant of our original tax problem. We only split them off to keep a guy from going all civil war on our butts.

Congrats duders.

So your argument for why we need a Defensive policy for the war next turn is... what? That if we don't do defensive policy now, we never will? What does that have to do with the war next turn?

Defensive policy is what you take preemptively to reduce losses if you are invaded. It has some synergy with expecting a defensive war soonish, and is something you might want to do in general when you have the spare econ and actions for it. And if you are going to argue that we have stats and actions now, go for it - at least that argument would be cogent. But arguing that we need defensive policy to go to war next turn is mind-boggling. And that is exactly the argument you were making, and I was decrying: "I just don't think anyone who isn't voting defence should thank that we're going to war next turn."

And I assume the free policy change to either offence or defense at the start any new wars is just Academia Nut giving us a good option and a trap option.

We don't need to win the war with the Highlanders in one turn having a high defensive infrastructure and just sending mercenaries and one main war mission a turn is a strategy we can do if we had good defense

I want the extra trade good a turn earlier.
So you want the extra trade good a turn earlier, but not the docks, which make all of our trade goods better. We can take poppies literally any time for the same benefit. We actually get a rather large benefit from taking the docks now and not wasting the extra policy actions.

Megaprojects are awesome and consistently give major benefits in line with their costs in the long term

We should look to integrate some of our other subjects after we deal with the HK as well as general civ improvement after we get these megaprojects done

[X] [Mega] Upgrade Best of the Best to Life of Arete
[X] [Main] International Games
[X] [Secondary] New Trails
[X] [Secondary] Change Policy - Megaproject Support
[X] [Guild] Plant Poppies

This version is even worse at preparing us for the imperialistic stuff people plan to do next turn, so I fully support this change.

That project is a trap now.

Someone informed AN how such a canal will end up eroding one of the rivers down to nothing due time - and his answer was "Really? Huh. Well, Ymarryn wouldn't know that."

Voting for Triangle Canal is voting for a great stab.drop in the future once the People realize they fucked up part of their land.

Hah!
If you think this will stop us from dealing with the HK, you are hilariously mistaken.

You I like you, I am voting for war but you have my respect for at least knowing we can't have our cake and eat it too.
If this vote wins i'm not going to vote for war next turn.

You know what would be a really good general civ improvement? Expand Forest, because our forests make everything about our civ better, we should totally expand our forests further and study health at the same time.

*throws away project, got bored*

*looks at thread*

Huh.

That's an odd one, but the math checks out.

Yeah, well said guy was also assuming we would divert a whole river's worth of flow through the canal when we barely need a millionth of one of them to irrigate the whole area in the equivalent of 70 inches of rain per year. I don't disagree that we need more time for it, but the problems were seriously exaggerated.

Megaproject Completed!
The Games - An organized series of athletic events and mock battles to maintain fighting trim and vent the aggression of less composed warriors, this also helps foster friendly rather than destructive rivalry between major settlements. Increases Martial Tolerance by 2, gives +1 Culture for every 2 True Cities, and opens up new possibilities.

Social Value Upgraded
We Have Reserves -> Swords and Ploughshares
Farmers can fight in wars, the marching of armies can pound out roads, and axes are good for splitting wood and skulls.
Pros: Gain +1/3 of Econ as bonus Martial, chance of negating Martial (and thus Econ) damage dependent upon Econ strength, increased power of Raise Army and Retraining
Cons: Damage to Martial can carry over to Econ (additional damage from Honour of Elites does not count)
Yes!!! :D WHR got an upgrade after all! The Games are also pretty nice. While the free Temple upgrade was tempting, upgrading values is so much more difficult. So, I'll go for Aretes.

One Main and Two Secondary actions, and One Main [Guild] action. Entering the midturn under 2 Wealth costs 1 Stability, but over 10 Wealth gives 1 Stability
:o:cry: Is that easy stability? *makes grabby hands*

I'm reasonably happy with the bandwagon, it has trails and will guarantee the requisite wealth for the stability. Proto-Olympics might upgrade CA as well.

Actually an honest question from me, someone who also wants to beat the shit out of them.

How far do you want to go?

I want to take some territory south of the Cataracts so we can link up with Txolla-chan more, and take their west passes and tin mines.

I've also been thinking about the Highland Kingdom. What is the general goal when we go to war? Will we be aiming for outright conquest, or simply kick them enough that we get them as a vassal? Because either one is going to be difficult, conquest especially will be a bloodbath for us both. They will be defending highly defensible terrain with fortifications that they've built up over the centuries. They've occupied the area for a long time, after all.

My goal is to make them our vassal/client kingdom. Preferably without actually fighting. Very slim chance, but I think if we go all in with the attack, instead of half assing it and relying on our martial score, then they might just kneel so they don't get chewed up. So, next turn I'd suggest something like this, which hopefully makes them yield.

[Main] War Mission - Highland Kingdom
[Secondary] Terrify
[Secondary] Change Policy - Offence

I think this should work out at 3-4 war missions aimed at them, so tens of thousands of very pissed of Ymaryn.

Nothing wrong with selling drugs. If one believes in the concept of the individual, one must also believe in the individual's right to damage his person or otherwise do as he please with it.

I don't quite agree with you on this, momentary weakness is a thing. But as you and I are voting the same it would be hypocritical of me to say the benefits of being a drug dealer can't be worth it.

And I assume the free policy change to either offence or defense at the start any new wars is just Academia Nut giving us a good option and a trap option.
We get that option in DEFENSIVE wars. We haven't really had any non-defensive wars yet.

But you know what? I'm done arguing about this. Clearly, you aren't going to change your mind, and clearly, Defensive isn't going to win this turn, so I don't really see the point.

And then a new megaproject to redo several rivers generating a ton of new innovations.

Hey guys, I don't know if it has already been brought up, but has anyone considered going with the Trade province policy instead of the Mega-project policy?
Consider that so far we are only likely to have KH show up to our international games, but if we spam trade missions far and wide we could have Nomads, SF, TH, and others show up to our events if they are held once a turn.
