We could kill the prince maybe. We're probably not going to conquer all of Khem, or even collapse it, without devoting a lot more actions than it's worth. Much better to devote those resources to long term growth.
We're in exactly the same position except we're closer to steel and have a Martial genius. What are you even talking about.

It was the King that forced us into this war, and the Prince is the one that wants it to end. Killing him will only create more bloodshed.

That would require literally conquering all of Khemet. Hahaha, no. They're launching their invasion out of a colony in not!Syria. To end their threat completely we would have to go down all the way to not!Egypt. Not feasible.
Just like the Persians (Parthians, Sassanids) were always a threat to Rome that just could never be ended for good, just for centuries stayed a threat that spawned one war after the other, the same will now be true for the Khemetri and us. They're a second nomad-like threat to us now. We'll just have to deal with that.
The wealth is loss is insignificant to us, given our wealth production rates. And if you think we are inferior in terms of war material at the moment, then that's just another reason to end the war.

@Academia Nut I'm pretty committed to tribute now, but out of interest by our reckoning of the score how much Martial do the Khemetri have? And is that just what they can locally bring to bear, or their entire empire's stat?

Kill the Prince? Don't be silly. The death of the Hero always ends the game prematurely, so this conflict will inevitably end with his sword in our belly.

So. We clearly need to bring Wealth back up for our economy.
Main Plant Poppies sounds like the best bet as it adds another tradegood.

What happened to the people that raged against the steppes? Have we decided appeasement is the way forward? That we should pay our enemies off rather than beat them back?

We're getting our land back, that's the important thing here. We lack the firepower though to annihilate the Khemetri at this point, not after a clusterfuck like this, and not without destroying ourselves either.
Let it end, and if they come again, it'll come against a well protected frontier.
