Yeah, basically, the Tribute allows them to make good the cost of losing King of the HIll.

When a GM writes your enemies as arrogant god-complex fuckwads, then gives a choice of:
1) Acknowledge their greatness.
2) Give money to stop bully hitting you.
3) Stab the motherfucker repeatedly.
Which do you think players would choose?

Geez, The Khemtri sur roll well... even a Genius General doesn't Help.

Actually, our Genius General also rolled a nat 100, it basically ended here in a colossal bloodbath that's probably going down in history, and the Heir to Khemetri gaining a strong and healthy respect of us even through their cultural indoctrination.

Like, seriously, holy shit is that battle going to be legendary.

Reasons to peace out:
  • We can trivially afford it. Guild Mercantile leads to truly absurd wealth drip.
  • We get to squeeze our local slavers out of most of their income. After blowing up their LOYAL mercenaries.
  • We get control of the Black Sea.
  • We get 5+ MAIN ACTIONS to spend on building up instead of war
  • We get a Khemetri trading post.
    • Remember, the King of the hill is to force civilizations who are BETTER OFF trading with each other into war. We can DODGE that while staying King.
  • We get to deal with the little lowland traitors undistracted
  • In RL, the earliest treaty we have recovered is a peace treaty between Egypt and the Hittites at the end of the bronze age. That's US. That's NOW. HISTORY!!!

[X] Offer tribute (-5 Prestige, -10 Wealth, keeps King of the Hill, chance of +1 Stability)

Let's get out of this war before its suddenly Nomads.

People have a pretty unrealistically rosy view of what's going to happen post war I feel. if the image the khems take away from this is victory and a bundle of tribute. This king won't come back but in a generation or two we'll just be right back here as they decide they should be KotH and why should those losers they beat have that status.

@Academia Nut I note that this option does not have either peace or war. Does that mean that whether fighting continues will depend on rolls/other factors? You mention the prince going home for a coup. He has to succeed in order to make peace stick?

We because at lot of people aren´t ether happy with them getting something out of a war that they started or want to see them crash so that they aren´t a danger for us for a long time both of these need us to keep fighting.
You are misinterpreting the tribute option. This is essentially the Ymaryn bankrolling an assassination and regime change in Khemet to bring this new prince to power, while maintaining our KotH status and giving us an extra half turn to prepare to go burn HK to the fucking ground.

Khem isn't getting wealth from this, it'll get used up in bribes and funding soldiers/art to ensure the coup happens.

[X] The war will continue (War continues, have mid-turn actions before next War Mission rolls to potentially regenerate forces)

The pathetic shits invaded our land and killed thousands of innocents, all for there pride.

Let none of them leave our land breathing.

FOR THE TREES!

Just the fact that we can get around the trelli to trade makes this worth it.

So, how exactly does the narrative work if we give tribute?

Because it's a really weird peace in context of the time. On one hand we win because we keep the King of the Hill title and the Khemetri "lose" the Great Power war. On the other hand, we're ending the war by paying tribute. Something that is generally done by the losing side, as evident by the loss of prestige.

Are the Khemetri losing even more prestige than we are if we end up bribing the prince?
