The First Philosophers who gave Not!Earth an even superior starting tradition than the Greeks, starting with the Metal Saga. Truly, Earth will give a lot of salt about Not!Earth getting such a bullshit series of gift from one of their cradle civilization.
Hnnga. The desire to song overcomes me.

Song of Bullshit

O' Ymaryn, O' Ymaryn, O' Ymaryn,

Won't you share your tech with me?

But what is this, you can create plenty, with soft and poxless hands taking hold

When the Spirits flee and the DOOM comes, Who will have mercy on our people

O' Ymaryn, O' Ymaryn, O' Ymaryn, (O' Ymaryn... O' Ymaryn...)!

No shinnies, no fighting, no slaves, no disease, Nothing satisfies the Ymaryn but peace

(O' Ymaryn...)

Well we are Ymaryn and Crow, none can learn better, We'll open the door to The First Philosophy and show you the Wonders of the Starmetal

Our name is Ymaryn, and we wish for peace...

Our name is Ymaryn, and we follow the Crow...

Our name is Ymaryn, and the Mary Sue is here...

Uh, why ARE people backing Geographical? it's the easiest to exploit for politics and increasing social stratification(whoever is in a less influential district will see their districts expanded and their per capita vote shrunk to marginalize them, while whoever are in more influential district will be able to leverage influence to boost their per capita vote by splitting their districts up more).

Simple endstate for individuals doing individually optimal things that leads to socially less optimal things.
It basically just makes a mayoral system. Considering that we're already population-based, it's somewhat likely that districts will shift based on population per x area, which won't impact per capita vote but might result in impractical jerrymandering.

Considering that voters are already familiar with mayoral-based management schemes, it should be fine. To state an unstated assumption: as far as I can tell, this isn't as much an issue of representational government as it is of management and crime prevention. Geographical just makes sense.

Okay, I REALLY don't want to Restrict Access. Building walls for defense is fine and dandy, yes. Building walls to keep the "undesirables" out, less so. First, it creates an obvious area for slums to grow and fester, outside the walls. Second, it creates a nasty cultural precedent for exclusion. If someone commits a crime, they become a half-exile or get executed, depending on the severity. That's the law. However, there's no place in the law for excluding someone because they might commit a crime. If someone wants to come into the city, they should be able to, regardless of where they're from. I want to solve the problem, not just push it out of view. And if we can't solve it right now? Let the city dissolve. We don't super need it anyway, we've got room to expand.

I don't want to do Peacekeepers because we're already topped on Martial, which I think might be causing this problem.

I do want to do Enforce because it both helps us keep the situation stable while we work on a solution and increases Centralization, which we've been trying to do anyway.
I'd rather do Martial and don't really feel like Martial is the cause of conflict. It's not like we've heard that people are arguing over how diplomatic others are.

I genuinely just want to learn about different potential trading partners, and AN has stated that this might improve our sailing technology. Increased trade is increased tech gain.

@Academia Nut So like... would it be possible to have per-civ diplo stats displayed or something...? I'm guessing not, because that would be an insane amount of effort. It's just that it would be nice to have clearer markers of interdependence and trade rates w/ the Hathatyn, TH, and HK.

Potential result of Forest Study: Dendrochronology

Not really all that useful, except to historians and future climatologists, especially if we could somehow make accurate impressions and date it.

But if we're recording every single tree we cut, the height and so forth, as part of taxation and a way for shamans to study the forest in aggregate....It will certainly be valuable to historians who are trying to figure out the Ymaryn economic system.

Trees are cool.

Learned our lesson from the tax debacle. Gradual movement. This works well with our social values and allows a de facto geographical scheme without introducing the structural abuses of strictly geographical organization.

Probably a bad idea, but I just really like the aesthetics of our largest settlement not having walls, and I've wanted more Blackbirds for some time now.

Better interrogation techniques, the beginning of an intelligence and counterespionage service, police reports, etc.

Well if we keep pushing the Blackbirds angle, by the time someone else comes up with spies we will have written the Book on Spying at least twice. :V

Should be fun. :evil::drevil::drevil:

I really like the idea of an ancient wall less city and I want more black birds because of the guaranteed other effects of a main action and hopefully if we do not build walls it would make disease more likely giving us an option to expand carrion eaters next mid turn

We have a lot of warriors (and semi-warriors) wandering around with very little to do and a sudden uptick in crime in our city. There's a historical pattern here. Seriously, 1+1=2 here as far as history is concerned. ESPECIALLY with warriors and not soldiers.

What's this historical pattern you speak of?

I find Blackbirds and the risk of partial martial overflow to be more worthwhile than the stark class differentiation that walls will result in over the long term.

Enforce Law might stop the crime in the short term but doesn't provide an infrastructure to stem it in the long.

Can the admin chief(s) or whoever else would be relevant give some more info as to what (they expect/plan) will happen/change with each of the clan options?
Also, on the subject of "whoever else would be relevant, have any of the kings/advisers/chiefs suggested making a "Valleyhome-Admin chief" due to its size, complexity, and importance?

There's already an advisor for the city chief. Anyway, the admin advisors are not entirely certain what is best, but at this point they figure that doing things by district or occupation (which will probably turn out similar due to the way things get distributed in terms of work space) would be the least headache inducing for them.

@Academia Nut
What's the red limit for Centralization?
How well do our advisors think that building a wall will help the crime problem?
How trained are blackbirds for urban environments?
Can you explain more about how Enforce Law would work?

Any time you have warriors with no wars to fight, you end up with violent crime. Or revolts. Every. Single. Time. That's one of the reasons that Europe in the middle ages and Renaissance was always at war. Too many warriors make a civilization unstable.
aka in other cultures.

Europe in the middle ages + renaissance had warriors in positions of more power than they have in our society. Warriors =? fighting =/= murders, especially murders by blackbirds who are pretty specifically given a job to tone things down.

Not rly into continuing this atm, though, so I'll leave you w/ the last rebuttal.
