It was 4-6
They started it, just this turn. We would still have three turns at the most pessimistic.
What thing is so important we can't send a secondary trade mission in that time?
Securing South-Shore before they do. Granted, we could run a secondary with it but I know a lot of people want to take this opportunity to indulge our megaproject fetish.

Hmmm--i dont think we'll have that much influence, but good point:
Mmm, sure enough.
Remember the main challenges of The Law:
-Establishing a Code out of the mess thats your previous rulings and traditions. You need a lot of work to get some kind of reasonable baseline.
-Carving the Code of Law into every settlement.
-Establishing the literate population to interpret it locally.

If we send them a copy of our Laws, it's going to contain a hundred years of concentrated effort refining previous rulings into a unified Law. And remember they don't get Kickers. This is 4 actions to complete. Not cheap at all
So they'd probably get something like from their negaverse:
[] Ignore the Hill People Laws, they are foreign.
[] Use their Laws as a basis. Gain 2 actions worth of progress at no cost. Adopt some Hill People traditions.
[] Use their Laws and language as a basis. Gain 3 actions worth of progress at no cost. Adopt some Hill People traditions. Transition to Ideogramic/Phonetic writing at a -1 Stability cost. (if they don't already have it, because one of the challenges of writing a Law is how to write down legal ideas which you don't have the symbols for as they are abstract)
[] Just use their Laws, why waste your effort? Immediately complete The Law megaproject at no cost. Adopt Hill People laws wholesale. Lose 2 Stability.

A few interesting tidbits:

However, in searching the Land for both the possibility of more metal deposits or other places where nature had produced a natural seep, the People discovered a sea facing cliff face where several layers of stone almost seemed to be bleeding. More than that, while not much had been learned from studying the fragments of the fallen star other than that they were incredibly tough, it was noted that some of the stones around the Bleeding Cliff sort of looked like some of the stony bits of the fallen star, or the one red residue they had made in seeing if the fallen star produced poison like other metals.

This sounds like an iron deposit (magnetite?) exposed on the cliff. Water causes the it to leak and oxidize, forming rust.

This is probably a bit more exaggerated, and coming from iron in a spring flowing out. When I've seen things like this in person -- at retired iron extraction sites in Ontario -- it's a bit more subtle but similar.

The healers also told of a rare flower that the People might be able to trade with the Highlanders for that made dealing with painful sickness and injury - it came from somewhere in the south-west, but there were traders who occasionally wandered up from that direction who might be able to be contacted through intermediaries.

This sounds like opium, which would greatly enable further medical development. Wikipedia suggests that the opium poppy has a very wide range of hardiness, growing in countries as far north as Germany. If we could get some seeds, our agricultural expertise would probably give us the best chance of being able to cultivate it of any of our immediate neighbors.

I find it hilarious how we are a legend to the other tribes. Maybe we should do something like a Questing Knight, people who train to be powerful warriors while helping people in other lands. What I really want is something passing to increase relations without having to use an action.

So are we more like elves or dwarfs? It seems like it can be both. From the outside we are mysterious like elves but within the people we are as hard work as dwarfs. Do our people speak the same language yet? In the Interlude a while back not everyone could understand each other. We should be multilingual by now.

If in the future we will have to press the button I feel like we should up our military first. Metal and shields would be nice.
The saltern does what you are saying it gives us +1 diplo until currency is invented

Among other things, I do agree with dam before garden, and I'd like to talk to the highlanders so they don't freak out when their river flow starts changing.

Yepp, definitely looking forward to a study metal main when we do the copper mine.

You have to remember though that the Law megaproject takes six regular turns and I doubt they have kicker ability of their own. We would definitely have time later

That means that the Xohyssiri is the most urgent as we only have a little time before others try and attack again.
Timing is important.

Consider this. If you've just started, the task is daunting. You have a century worth of effort needed to figure out what the precedents of your laws are, then you need to distill the core principles out of them. Then you need to figure out the regional case exceptions and then you write it down.

If you present them with a complete set of laws in the very first turn of their project, RIGHT when they start it, they'd be MUCH more tempted to borrow heavily from you than if you presented them with your laws after they already finished gathering their precedents, and you'd be working against the weight of their tradition.

The Metal Workers of course, can wait. Yes, even if they have bronze because we don't have Tin anywhere in our land to make it, we don't have copper mines yet, and we'd get the news next turn anyway...since you may recall we have ongoing trade with them so we can just buy it with shitloads of salt.

The DPs meanwhile, are a wider window of opportunity. They have a truce with the Thunder Horse(who are fighting the other Thunder Horse) and the Highland Kingdom are working on a Megaproject. We know from experience that waging war while on a megaproject is pretty stupid.
As such, I can expect the trade opportunity there to remain open for at least 2 more turns, until the HK finishes their megaproject.

You know I am curious what would happen if we do not use any diplo and go past our diplo limit would people like us too much and what effects will result from that?

Next turn, I'd like to put the next megaproject on hold, perhaps spend a secondary action to swap to diplomatic or expansion focus so we can get a bunch of stuff done at once.

Among other things, I do agree with dam before garden, and I'd like to talk to the highlanders so they don't freak out when their river flow starts changing.
Oh god.

Negaverse HK:
'We of the Ymaryn have come to reopen trade, we hear you seek to enshrine order for all perpetuity for your people and ask if you need aid in such a daunting task. We must also warn that another of our Great Workings will begin soon, and in doing so alter the river itself. It should not be harmful, but we must forewarn you- as a gift and preemptive restitution for Working your river, have some salt' *carts in wagons full of the stuff*

Is this intellectual fruit mocking us for all the salt over the civil war?
Are the fucking wood elves really so arrogant to just tell us they're going to ruin our RIVER? Elves Delenda Est!
While I'm concerned over the whole 'take this, Imma fuck up a river' I'm more concerned they can do it. I mean, even their recent feats are just too bullshit, creating mystical tonics to treat Cholera, talking about redirecting a river in the near future, and suddenly appearing with massive amounts of salt out of nowhere
Wait guys. Salt. Fruit's been hinting the hillbillies* aren't fighting the nomads that much anymore, and we know the Hillbillies have crazy ass earth magic. What if. What if they turned a bunch of nomads into pillars of salt ala Sodom and Gomorrah? We'z a gonna die!

*Hillbillies is now my affectionate nickname for the Ymaryn.

Another point as to why vote [] Highland Kingdom, we are likely to expand into south shore next turn. This new province will deny the Highland Kingdom sea acess of its own. IMO a diplomatic mission will be beneficial in establishing some good will before expanding into "their" backyard.

I'm heading out now, but I've been sufficiently convinced to commit my trade expedition vote as well.

Good luck with the next few turns, all.
If we aren't doing a megaproject we get a free mid turn switch out I think.
This would be part of why I don't want to immediately go into the next project. As nice as they are, they're not urgent, and we have some things to do that kindof are.

I like the sound of giving nega sv a big shock with their live dudes returning.

[X] Xohyssiri

I think forming relations with the Xohyssiri is more important than helping the HK with their laws. With it seeming like people are going to want to do the Garden next turn, we won't be able to do a Trade Mission with them while the proverbial iron is still hot.

What the hell, it's not like warring with them has done much good aside from mollifying allies and we don't have any designs on the territory down in that area still anyway. They have access to a lot of things to their S and SE anyway that might be interesting to at least learn about.

You welcome all, offering food and shelter if they will contribute to your community. Sometimes these newcomers behave badly, and sometimes they bring strange new ideas, but in general they strengthen your community, especially in the long run
Pros: Enhanced absorption of new ideas, +1 social value from current or historical neighbours, whenever a neighbour suffers a stability drop, have the option to also suffer a stability drop in exchange for a large boost to Econ and technological and social advancement by absorbing especially large numbers of people
Cons: Many think you weak, not accepting the needy can cause stability drops, sometimes you get values you didn't expect
