[X] Reinforce Northshore
[X] Send additional resources to assist (-1 Centralization, allows Northshore to spend Econ on defensive measures while being attacked)
[X] The People always welcome the needy (-1 Stability, +2 Econ)

I'd rather not collapse the DPs, because that'll just give the Higlanders control of the Lowlands, which means they'd be extremely powerful. Also you know, hitting Stability 1 again is a pain in the ass.

Changing vote, I guess we can keep our hated enemy around to fuck with the Highland kingdom

@Academia Nut what does our military advisor think about our military, both in terms of how it compares to our neighbors and on what she/he/they would suggest to the king as most important to improve it?

Well the mechanic we know are this.
We can choose a main action and double down it with a secondary action doubling it's effects, and leaving a secondary action free, so it like this
[Main]
[Secondary] Main action x2
[Secondary]

Or choosing a [Main] action and choosing a [Secondary], them doubling it down to turn it into a main...so
[Main]
[Secondary] Secondary Action
[Secondary] Secondary Action x2
Think the first is more a 1.5x boost but not sure can you shoot a quote my way?

The second thing is completely right and already on the developing corner.

Ahh, veekie beat me to the analysis.

To clarify, yes, composite bows are new for us.

Things we're likely to need to do near term.
Expand the military-Need to deal with the nomads somehow, and our neighbors are upping their military to get shit done.
Start diplomancing the fuck out of the lowlands. Even if we don't settle there, we don't want them to decide it's a good time to attack us. We should also really be prepared to take some amount of land there.

Really though, we've pushed the envelope with actual military forces. Unless our blackbirds do hilariously well against the nomads, we need more. Actually, we still need more to deal with potential coastal raiders now.

One thing that we really ought to do once the Dead Priests are gone is to periodically do Grand Sacrifice. It's a very powerful tool in our toolbelt, but if we don't use Greater Good, the value will go away just like Sacred War did and we'll lose the action. Like Sacred War, we won't be able to get it back because the people we got it from will have been destroyed.

So, how good is our military now? Are we able to contend with people in the lowland? How difficult it would be for the Thunder Horse or the Highlander to contend with us in our home?
We'd probably get wrecked in the open field. Iirc the DP and HK and others have been fighting each other for generations. The DP have been drifting towards formation fighting and thus shock infantry/heavy infantry ala early Romans. The HK are likely following suit.

We probably have powerful skirmishers but we likely have rather abyssmal infantry. So on the defense in our home territory (i.e. forests and behind our fortifications) our bows make us a nightmare to fight against. But we likely wont be nearly as good on the open field.

Please remember that stats are relative. Tech development influences the value of individual points.

Better military tech would make a martial score of 4 better than a civ with significantly inferior tech (but has a martial of 6ish).

That's why an econ score of 1 is fine for us, but on the brink of starvation for other civs.

Then what the hell our Econ 10 is?

Also, with Econ 10, if we build up more Stability (2 or 3), we can one-turn build a megaproject by burning stability and investing all actions into it.

Btw, we should really expand a few more of the Major Holy Sites in our Provinces. That should get us several free Study Stars, Study Health and even Study Forest actions for free, which would be excellent.

Minor typo that I am going to say is a linguistic quirk in that some people say 'shore' and others say 'coast' :p

Uhhhh... go full Sparta.

Warning: never go full Sparta.

My understanding is that they were really brittle. Research confirmed it.

  • They didn't even built walls until much later than everyone else, thinking they're too manly for it.
  • The population of helots keep growing, so the Spartans have to spend more time policing and putting down rebellious helots.
  • Their manpower gradually shrink as citizens become too poor to pay their dues.
So, strength and weakness of the DP:
  • Strength: The most experienced, hardened, and advanced military in the Fertile Crescent.
  • Strength: Their warrior class are really strong as part of an eugenic program.
  • Weakness: As soon as the DP shows weakness, tributary states become more rebellious, then they stop contributing slaves.
  • Weakness: They have to rely on specialized auxiliaries for people like scouts, where as we have our own homegrown blackbirds. So when the DP starts losing wars....guess what happen to their scouts? Gone like the wind.

Currently actively constructing the Great Canal megaproject, occupying the [Main] action slot, leaving two [Secondary] actions. Advances in administrative skill now allow for more effective focus, and Main actions can be doubled up on while leaving room for a single Secondary action. Adding a x2 modifier to a Main action (such as [][Main] Great Canal x2) will have it applied at Main strength twice while still allowing a single Secondary action to take place.

To clarify:
We can:
Main Secondary [Secondary x2]
[Main]
[Secondary] Secondary Action
[Secondary] Secondary Action x2

Doubles effect of secondary

And
Double Down [Main x2]
[Main]
[Secondary] Main action x2
[Secondary]

Doubles effect of main and do a Secondary

We can't anymore: y.y
[Main]
[Secondary] [Main]
[Secondary] [Main x2]

x4 Main (yeah, it was OP)

Collapsing the DP would be nice, but they're enough on the back foot that they're probably going down again... and more importantly, them being there means that our neighbors are stuck dealing with them. Is this evil? Yes. But while the DP are on the back foot we can expand to the Eastern hills, which would be really nice. If we kill off the DP right now, the TH might expand there instead, which would suck. We'll probably have to skip out on claiming the lowlands though- trying to grab a piece when we didn't contribute much isn't going to be seen very favorably.

Side note: it seems like 50% of our provinces get an action each turn, but it's not each province gets an action every other turn. Do we have any way of knowing if Valleyhome will be on the list for Study Stars? If they aren't, we'll want to take it to continue the chain.

@Academia Nut Two questions:

1)Can other provinces than Valleyhome Study Stars, and if not, what size Temple do we need for them to start doing so?
2)When do we get an action to start adding Temples to our secondary villages/villages we annexed?

The bandwagon is already set so, commentary. Be warned that I wrote it on my phone on a bus so it's kinda not super insightful, just pointing stuff out.

@veekie the southern shores do not have walls. They are southern, I.e. South of us just like Northshore is north of us.

The sea invaders will be a big challenge if we want to continue pursuing Phoenician goals, we will need to start doing More Boats steadily after the mega project is finished.

If the DP die:
We'll probably be attacked by the HK or TH after they expand throughout the lowlands, though this of course depends on how the DP fracture and whether something equally strong comes out of their core and vassals.

We'll be fighting on three or four fronts: sea, north, south (HK) east (TH). We can avoid the TH attacking us through continued diplomatic ties. We cannot prevent the northern nomads. We can ally with the HK but it's more advantageous to do the following: 1) expand into the lowlands, 2) make a dam. This will provide us with fruitful Econ and growing places.

However, we probably won't do that and will just expand our provinces along the hills cus it's safe and a good amount of us will only make settlements if we can wall, forest, moat, and barricade them all at once. Aka the required commitment tends to be a) extreme and b) not committed.

We maybe can neutralize the southern sea people. It almost entirely depends on what they want, how much wood they have, and how much we commit to the action.

Tldr... Medium future: lowlands, ocean, hills. Pick two, sacrifice the other to create an ally who will be an enemy soon enough.

Sure losing centralization hurts but its needed once you hit a certain size, areas need some local government powers to do with defense.

It's actually probably better if Dead Priests survive weakened it keeps the thunder horses and the highland peoples attention on them not us. Like short term yeah fuck the dead priests but long term has two strengthened rival instead of three, hell we don't even know how the Thunder Horse and Highlanders get along what if they have long term ties from kicking the dead priests around for so long?

And the thing with the different rocks...I think the poison might be acidic, so carbonate rocks might be denaturing some of it?
That's not really how that works. I'd guess that there is some enzyme in the berries that activates in more basic conditions, or that the poison itself denatures under basic conditions. A poison being an acid has very little to do with that process.

[3] Allow a free hand to deal with invaders (-1 Centralization, automatic actions to deal with invaders will be spent by subordinates instead of the king)

It's likely that some of the Provinces simply ran out of actions to do, for example they might have reached the limit of their Expand Economy, and last time we had Diplo 6 which was not enough to trigger an automatic trade mission from one of them.

However, from what we've seen Valleyhome has always gotten an action, Study Stars. So it's likely that actions without cost like Study Star/Forest/Health can be done per turn by our Provinces, provided they have the necessary infrastructure, which are Expanded Holy Sites.
