EDIT:
Wait, if prep days can be done away from the infusion site, why not just pull up to an island each infusion day?
Or just camp on an Island, and use a ship to relocate prisoners between islands every few weeks?
If you can find a good candidate island that we can actually sail to, I'm all for that idea, but all the ones on the map look like they're either near Sea (and I would need significant effort to convince me that being on a ship we don't know how to sail properly while within 200 miles of a hidden village that calls itself Sea is an acceptable risk), in Mist territory (same problem) or near O'Uzu. (I guess there's the islands near Haran Bay, if we could get through the Noodle-Water strait, but that seems too close to Leaf for comfort and we'd have to do some quite complex sailing to get there without being spotted, which we probably can't do.)

Edit: The reason I'm not worried about Sea for being in the Southern Isles normally is that if we move around by skywalking, we have no reason to believe Sea will be especially good at spotting us; but Sea might well be extremely good at spotting us if we try moving around by ship. Plus, we can probably take a Sea scouting party on foot - they're a minor village - but if we're both on ships, they probably have a bunch of naval-combat-specialized jutsu and we don't.

y'know, Crimson State Island is over 200 miles from Sea...
More likely, we hide out on tiny islands that aren't on the map, and have no population, like we did in Aisu Bay.

re: getting spotted on the move:
Yeah, it's a worry. we can mitigate it with skywalker scouts, and hide the ship with FSB+SCSA if someone gets close, but it's a risk.
we can also set Kagome on making a movable version of SCSA. while that normally wouldn't be practical, the boat can keep the elements in alignment while we move, and one empty patch of sea looks a lot like another, especially from the side.

Anyway, It seems moot for this voting cycle, but I think it's viable, and I'm keen to spend ~20 words next plan to ask Kei to settle this for us. if she says yes, the upside is quite large.

A thought, actually; we might want to see if we can get Hazōpilot to change his mind on infusing runes near other runes. If we end up in the "sheltering Leaf from Akatsuki with Force Domes" situation, is Hazōpilot just going to refuse to do any rune research because he's near a Force Dome? That would be suboptimal, even if we'd hopefully have the runes we need by then.

We could maybe have him infuse a rune he's very familiar with (to get the TN reduction) near another rune and see if there's any change in the chakra flows? He might be able to judge whether it would affect infusion to have other runes nearby that way; and if it doesn't, that expands our options for rune research logistics quite a lot.

@Sir Stompy, as agreed.

  • All Uplift
    • The most pessimistic timeline for Akatsuki opening the Rift is approaching (3 months objective).
      • Kei, what's your estimate for how much time remains?
    • Discuss contacting Orochimaru via dead drop in Arachnid, to set up a future binary signal for "you need to return to Leaf immediately".
      • This contradicts Naruto's orders, but what he doesn't know he can't leak.
      • What's the chance Orochimaru is compromised by Akatsuki?
      • What's the chance Orochimaru tries to harm Hazou through the dead drop?
      • There are some logistical workarounds necessary, since the Arachnids swore not to pass messages to Hazou/Kagome.
      • Seems doable using creative interpretations: an oathsworn Arachnid getting an unsworn Arachnid to pass messages.
    • If the team approves, compose a suitable dead-drop and leave it for Orochimaru.
      • Suggest including, and if approved, the research notes for Force Domes, as payment.
    • Time to move.
      • Hazou favors Fang, the southwestern coast of Wind, far eastern Gaikotsu Bay, or the Southern Isles.
        • The first two are closer, but might have Akatsuki agents. The latter two are more remote.
        • The hunt should've left the Southern Isles by now, no?
  • Kei
    • Your leadership skills are getting rusty.
    • Could you practice leadership with your assigned team of Pangolins?
    • Failing that, could you try to practice leadership by contracting jounin Pangolins?
    • Take as much time away as needed.
  • Research
  • Head for the consensus destination after ELF Explosives finish.
    • Use ELFE on the camp's TR.
    • Determine if Force Domes are chakra constructs with chakrascope/MS8/Noburi.

[X] Action Plan: The (Sand)worm's Turn

Our runecrafting is at its soft cap and unlikely to get much higher anytime soon. If it is sufficient to recreate the Runic Mont, we could conceivably use it against the Akatsuki.
As in, make our own Great Seal and use it to trap Akatsuki?

y'know, Crimson State Island is over 200 miles from Sea...
You had me at "Crimson State Island". :D

Seriously, though, if we do go out to sea, I'd like to pass by CSI.

[X] Action Plan: The (Sand)worm's Turn

Yeah that's workable.

If the team approves, compose a suitable dead-drop and leave it for Orochimaru.

Are we not being too cheap? Force Domes are a pretty big payment. I'd suggest we should at least negotiate for him to actually use these Force Domes to protect Leaf. (We could just do it via a dead drop that presents him this deal, which he answers with y/n, then a second dead drop with Force Domes.)

I somewhat agree, but I want to minimize contact with Oro, so this is a 100% increase in that.

Also for him to defend Leaf he has to learn Force Domes, which is a huge time investment for him and he isn't very prosocial. I expect he might balk at the cost.

As a no-strings-attached gift Force Domes demonstrate that we are a good Runemaster and that we're willing to share our work. I think that's enough to push him to cooperate.

Demanding he research them and defend Leaf with them might be a bridge too far.

[X] Action Plan: The (Sand)worm's Turn

Could be anything thin, but spider silk is the only thing we ever explicitly showed, IIRC.
We should use ES and 5SB more. Custom shape the shapes we want to protect. Coat cave surfaces in diamond coating + 5SB the diamond to protect from collapse + keep out chakra beasts. Coat silk in diamond coating + 5SB the diamond for more fire resistance and to add custom 5SB protected diamond outgrowths to the skyslicer.
the annoyance of Augjev skill checks.
Pondering Orochimarujev.

[x] Noburi Training Plan: Removing the Weights on Better Buffs

Contracting Force Dome

Rune

A Force Dome type rune, this is intended to be used defensively with another Force Dome. The force dome construct is created at variable size and then swiftly contracts until it hits the inner Force Dome, crushing anything between the two to a fine paste.

Question - remind me, what's our current estimate of Oro's Sealing? Hazō and the players both seemed to believe we were better than Oro back when we had Sealing 75 from SSA, but did we actually have any basis for believing that, or are we just guessing that Oro has at most a 60-slot dedicated to Sealing? (If the latter, that seems not necessarily true; it would not surprise me in the least to learn that Oro is capstone Sealing or Biosealing, and his capstone slot is probably at least a 70.)

Asking because, if Oro has at most Sealing/Biosealing 69, then we can be better than him (marginally) once we push Sealing to 59. If he has Sealing/Biosealing 70-79, though, then he will probably be better than us at PS. This has implications for how we interact with him in future. (In particular, if we can be better than he is before we next see him, that would be a good thing to prioritize in order to increase the chance that he's willing to treat us with a degree of respect.)

Wat do y'all think of opening all Naruto's order envelopes? In case some of them contain goodies. Considering we cant follow the original plan of opening them when he tells us to since we ordered dogs to go incommunicado

Not unless you can give specific reasons why this might be the case beyond 'but what if'.

Orochimaru took a while to catch up to Hazo in Runecrafting when Hazo was Severe'd and given his need to survive combat against Akatsuki, Dragons, etc I would be shocked if Orochimaru actually had research capstones instead of the combat trio. He excels in Biosealing specifically (a field we have no particular familiarity with to gauge, anyway) and has never been exceptional in any other discipline.

I dont think that sinking X months of XP gains into "Be slightly better at Sealing so that we are marginally better at PS so that Orochimaru is going to respect us more" is something that is going to pan out.

He knows that we are good at sealing, he doesn't respect us because we are (from his perspective) a dumbass kid. Getting higher numbers isn't really going to move the needle much there, because the relative numbers difference is not the main thing factoring into his opinion.

Hmm. Oro took just over 25 days to learn lithosealing, suggesting an average XP rate of about 5 XP/day (assuming he was spending only on that, which seems like a reasonable assumption). He then caught up to Hazō in about seven days (April 30th to May 6th). If he was still earning 5 XP/day during that time, and spending it all on PS, that would mean he only had to reach PS 5 to catch up to Hazō. I'm not sure what Hazō's effective PS was at that point; his base PS was 11, but I'm not sure if SSA would have been included in Oro catching up to Hazō (given that a. Hazō wouldn't have wanted Oro to know about it and b. its insights are extremely weird); I think our Sealing was something like 51 at the time, so our crossover bonus would have been +17 except for the Severe that makes it +13 instead and penalizes PS directly by 4, so our eff. PS should have been 7 + 13 = 20 without SSA, 28 with it? That would make Oro's highest sealing stat 45 if the "catching up to Hazō" doesn't include SSA, or 69 with it; since 45 is entirely implausible, that puts him at top sealing stat 69.

Alright, I'm convinced. Oro probably does have Sealing-or-Biosealing 69, so we were better than him (and will be again). It's possible these calculations are inaccurate, but 5 XP/day and top sealing stat 69 are such nice numbers that I suspect they were how the QMs got the time frames in the first place, and I think it's a pretty good argument that they're the actual numbers.

I was under the impression we were already planning to do this at some point, so it'd be a question of reordering rather than spending XP we wouldn't otherwise have spent; and I would like our 70+ Sealing back. But I take your point.

Edit: though bear in mind the improvement is the same for Sealing and PS, at least numerically. We'd be levelling PS as well so as to reach the new softcap, which is the same as our Sealing level. It's "somewhat" and "somewhat", IMO, not "slightly" and "marginally".

I think that point is a while into the future (a fair bit more than a year of IC time barring a ludicrous amount of XP falling out of the sky).

In the short term we need to locally peak PS, learn Mednin, and then boost some combat stats so that Hazou doesn't get smashed by the next crazy beast that comes out of nowhere (or cause Mari to get smashed because his chuunin butt can't dodge worth a damn). Not necessarily in that order I think. After that, we need to shovel some XP into Technique Hacking and unlock Minato's cool sealing discipline.

Apropos of absolutely nothing ...

@eaglejarl @Paperclipped @Velorien Does Hazō know anything about a. the availability of spacetime ninjutsu and b. how difficult they are to make? They seem to be extremely rare - I think we've basically only seen Conjura and Oro use them, and Oro's use was in that possibly-not-canon interlude of him escaping Akatsuki - but given that they're non-elemental, it's not obvious why that should be the case if all you need to make them is high enough TH. Does Hazō think there might be some kind of stunt you need in order to make and/or use them, or some other barrier to them being more widespread than "big-number TH"?

Low-priority question, and I'm not really expecting Hazō to know anything, but I thought I'd ask in case my underlying assumptions were wrong or in case Hazō being a sealmaster, Summoner, and THer, plus having Toad Sage TH training, gives him any insight into this.
