    • We're actually going missing.
    • We need to exfiltrate Mari, Noburi, and Yuno from Leaf. Hazou's research is massively slower without Noburi; and we don't want them as Itachi's hostages.
      • Kei, do you want to attempt to extract Miyuki and Tenten? Mari can get them messages, and they can extract separately -- they're likely to be under less scrutiny.
    • Hazou suggests a dead drop letter for Noburi -- make it seem like we're moving around too much to talk. In it:
      • Copied lists of seals/seal notes from our research. Make it haphazardly-put together -- write on the move if viable.
        • Officially, this is insurance if we die en route: our research can live on.
        • Unofficially, this is if Itachi shows up: if he reads our research it'll provide weak evidence we're not doing rift research.
        • In reality, Hazou will accidentally slip in some exfiltration-related seals (Skywalkers, Darkness Domes...) he thinks will help Mari.
      • Instructions and new ideas for Mari to implement.
        • Officially, this is to help ease the transition back for Hazou, and to implement some new Uplift ideas he had.
        • Include references/instructions involving Masoru and his father - Mari will recognize the reference, and alert her to exfiltrate the team.
    • Let Mari take point on exfiltration. Once they've escaped, let Noburi contact us on the Seventh Path; we'll go from there.
    • Set up precautions (oaths, restricted locations, Boss permissions) to remove the Seventh Path as an avenue of communication from Leaf as soon as we send the dead drop letter.
      • Kei, will Pantsaa make this easy for you?
  • Work on Capacitor and then (time permitting) Icarus while waiting for the exfil to complete.
    • Use DoB, no prep, reroll for safety.
    • Read Sealing Notes with SCs on rest days.

To be fair, this was near-Heartbreaker Mari, and not at all premeditated. I'm still thinking about your other points.

I guess I was assuming that the note would be visible to the messenger, but if it's a sealed envelope then you have a good point. As long as Noburi just thinks of it as ordinary summoner-delivered mail we won't risk Itachi being suspicious.

Like, it might be slightly weird, but a different, normal, kind of weird. And there are a lot of things Kei could want Mari's private advice on, where Hazou might be likely to just pass things verbally through Noburi.

Itachi's still not going to accept this. I think you assume that researching anti-Akatsuki weapons isn't considered working against their interests; I say it does.

Regardless of the faith of the agreement, Itachi will kill us if we violate it.

No one was interested in contracting with you as soon as they met you. Now having fought beside you, Cansaku has made it very clear that he's interested in making a contract -- specifically, in exchange for a steady supply of Force Blade seals. You can have Hazou ask around the rest of the fighters from the two packs if you'd like to.
 
And here's a version of the edits I made for Sir Stompy, with one major change: I explicitly ask whether exfiltrating the rest of Team Uplift is a good idea. Functionally the rest of the plan behaves as though we decide to do this, but I wanted to make 100% sure with Kei that this isn't going to have catastrophic and/or unexpected consequences.

  • Privately pray to Jashin-sama to bless the exfiltration.
  • Work on Capacitor and then (time permitting) Icarus while waiting for the exfil to complete.

    • Test whether Instant Darkness seals can bolster Narajutsu with Snowflake.

If the "HOWR but turned up to 11" rune works out then we probably want "Sunglasses in a seal" since that seems like a reasonably doable buff/debuff that we can more easily control.

Downsides are that Kisame/Hidan probably don't give a shit about being able to see, ???? on whether it bothers Konan, but the others might be much less useful. Its possible that Sharingan probability-sight bullshit still allows Itachi to target people with jutsu in something like that (I can't imagine that being easy though), but at least he's probably getting more eyeball damage than normal.

Are you factoring in the different situation of a Leaf farmer compared to a modern world person? About how tax collection could take surplus food necessary for surviving a future harsh winter (perhaps converted into gold first to prevent spoilage. Or converted into fat by eating). And how subsistence people might care a lot less about their mind relative to their material conditions than modern people? And how it would be much harder for them to push back or flee to greener pastures?

It was not premeditated, which is why it was just the background context and not the thing I was pointing at. The crime of killing innocents without talking I was pointing at was Hazou killing the ninja who arrested our team in the aftermath of Mari's actions.

Not in Team Uplift or Goketsu clan (edit: we have repentant murderers but not unrepentant ones like hidan). But Leaf has Orochimaru, pretty sure missions to kill innocents during peacetime, and also set fire to civilian cities during war. Which seems comparable whether or not by scale you mean number of kills, or killing for selfish reasons (in hidan's case for fun or for his god, in orochimaru's case for personal power, in leaf's case to protect leaf's people without regard for other people). And we barely restrain those folks in Leaf. Should our association with them taint us? Is Akatsuki closer to a clan or a village? They are very few numbers like a clan. But their unity seems more akin to a village (like goketsu and hagoromo). Given itachi didn't trust anyone except pain.

Doesn't seem like it should be too hard to make a Banshee slayer-esque "light dimmer" type seal.

I can make the reference to the bolthole claerer -- the point is for her (but not Itachi) to realize that Hazou wouldn't talk about the iron mine like this, and to recognize that it's code for her to get the team out.
