ES works on what the ChakrAI thinks Earth is. That means definitely no acids, but I could see it working on oil, it works on coal. I kinda doubt it'll work on natural gas though.
We can't do chemical reactions with it anyway. All the Iron we purified this last chapter was in the form of Iron oxides.

I think they were meaning to use the acid to render the iron to atomic form so that it can be easily shaped.
Iron in ionic (not atomic) form just looks like dissolved ions in acid. There's nothing to shape except the acid. That's not something elemental Earth can do. Maybe elemental Water.
Just had a thought @eaglejarl @Velorien @Paperclipped we can do a single day of prep to get the difficulty of a seal, genin/chunin/jounin/Jiraiya. But if another sealmaster has already researched the seal, can we just ask them what the difficulty is? I'm thinking Kagome is a couple seals ahead on the Minoto chain and he could tell us how hard the ones he's done already were.

I think it's better just to abandon the idea at this point. Currently this needs unknown jutsu and unknown chemistry to work. Way too much effort to figure out something that just isn't that good.
Smiths can just forge the iron. Most of the problems with forged iron being the best material technology is that it's too expensive to produce. ES goes a long long way towards resolving that.
ES can't affect more than a thin slice of metal, my reading is that even force wall saws wouldn't get it thin enough, we're talking gold foil thinness.

It just occurred to me that we can make coke. One of the developments that had to happen before coal could be used for steel (instead of charcoal) was a method to get rid of impurities in the coal.... So pure ore + pure coal or charcoal would make steel refining fairly easy.
We should try to make lightweight armor, because then it might mechanically provide more Armor than the Athletics penalty, and it could be a massive boost to all of our (and Leaf's) ninja.

Note that Hazo owns an iron mine. If you want to get iron in quantities that are anywhere near worth Hazo's time, refine the output of that rather than tiny traces in granite. On the other hand, granite is good for: optical quality fused quartz, corundum, and mica; glassmaking quality fine quartz powder; abrasive corundum powder and; powdered feldspar probably has value as a ceramics feedstock. Those should all fetch more than the iron flake. Obviously the fused stuff will be much more valuable than the powders but the markets are smaller and they take far more Hazo time - they're commission only goods.

Again, this is important, and time-sensitive. many of the currently discussed plans, including "Reflection" and "Welcome to the Future" neglect this. currently "Doing it Again" is the only plan that includes this(Yay!).
Am I missing something?
@charlesrwest @FaintlySorcerous , I'd be happy to vote for these plans if you included mentioning the leak to Asuma and at least a little investigation(spice profile, Hidan-tracking, ect), or if you explained why you think this isn't a priority or otherwise worth including in the plan.

I wonder if we could find a combat application of Earthshaping that would share its level and unlock it via a Stunt, so that we actually have some combat power, and then mix that up with our Kage level Sealing to allow Hazou to fight jounin properly. It would sure be a lot better than devoting two highest pyramid columns to skills that can't be used in direct combat.
Also in the long run Sealing + Earthshaping probably allows for claiming the land eventually or even carving entire Paths out from the Out beyond where the monsters dwell, if Cannai's reaction to ES 50 is anything to go by. And since ES is likely a prereq for 3d Sealing, its looking increasingly probable that our build is somewhat following in the Sage's footsteps...

I think the truth is that Hazou (in the form of the hivemind/voters) does not really care about Akane anymore. Once there was "confirmation" she was dead, that was it. On to the next shiny and oh! We can be rich now! And give up secrets to Asuma! It's our favorite past times!

I disagree. I think your interpretation is cynical in the extreme.
I read this as Hazou hyper-focusing on productivity in order to keep his overwhelming grief at bay.
Productivity? Hazou is neglecting to follow time-intensive leads to do something he can do at any point in the future if he so chooses.
Its not like its some new trend, its just what happens when there are a few hyper-active planmakers who constantly try to optimize Hazo's standing in the world to the exclusion of allowing him to be a human with sometimes petty needs and wants, i.e roleplay, and people vote their plans or forks thereof through, maybe 80% of the time, because they are well thought out.

The reason we're doing this now is that we just unlocked ES 50. We would be doing this whenever it was unlocked, no matter what was happening in universe.

I mean...that will be how QMs likely frame it. I was talking about voters/us/the hivemind. Hazou cares a lot. We don't (as a collective).
To name a few, courtesy of Black King's plan:
- Akane's mission was leaked, we need to find out how/from who and prepare accordingly, and fast, because the Fucker's faction now potentially knows the Nuke and also because the longer we wait, the harder it will be to find anything out
- Find out the truth about Ruka's involvement or lack thereof before she is quietly disappeared which might well happen if Asuma was involved in the whole thing.
- Get Hidan for help with tracking Akane's blood. It would give us more intel at worst, and in the unlikely circumstance that she is actually alive, instantly point us to her location.
- See about getting access to spices/items from other countries to cross-reference with Canvass for Akane's attackers. If the Chunin Exam is still going on, use that. Independent of Asuma action.
- Make sure Yuno gets to stay in the village instead of running missions because she was doing the Rock jounin mission together with Akane and is the logical next target if it was a revenge mission.

I think that is a very unfair characterization of the voters. I also think there's an important distinction between "caring about Akane" (rescuing her, or bringing her back), "caring about justice for Akane" (figuring out exactly who killed her and why, to get revenge), and "caring about closure about Akane" (doing things to help us process our loss and feelings, temporary or otherwise). There is overlap, but they aren't mutually inclusive or exclusive.
We can bring up the suspect timing, though Asuma likely noticed as well. And since Asuma is a suspect, that has its own risks too. Scent/material acquisition can still happen, and I myself support it, but it is very much in the justice for Akane/unraveling plots distinction. Working on the Minato seals, which most plans are doing, is working in the direction of getting Akane back.
Even when investigating what happened at the border, Hazou prioritized a small chance of getting her back over a larger chance of finding her probably-killers. I'd argue the thread is doing something similar. I do however support effort being given to the investigation, and welcome you to ping me if you write a plan for it.
