@ight, I'm okay if you want to delay the Mari conversation for another update. I know it's kinda shoehorned in to the plan and takes up wordcount that could go towards something else. Won't lose my vote if you decide to take it out.

I like your plan MMKII, still not sure I'm comfortable telling Ami about FOOM yet though, especially near-unconditionally. Kinda with Maddie on this one.
I also like the other plan, I think figuring out what moves the Hyuga are going to make in response is important. However, I don't really think we need the Mari conversation right now for reasons I've already expressed in this thread.
I'm gonna hold off on voting for now.

how dis edit?
If she accepts your offer, talk shop about Hazou's Master Plan after implementing additional (and hopefully extraneous, but you never know!) OPSEC measures.
  • Be roundabout, don't refer explicitly to shadow clone, just tell her something like "Definitive plan to vastly increase power of all involved. Keiko can confirm the existence and viability. Not trying to get killboxed again, so can tell you more as situation develops, if it does."
  • If she can get into Leaf, we'll cut her in if she wants, modulo some reasonable conditions we'll get into weeds on

alright, removed the Mari uplift part.

I suppose I could do this? It seems very vague and doesn't actually do much to tell her about the thing.

I could probably go with "We have a clever plan that will dramatically increase the abilities of all involved, but Leaf Ninja Only. Not trying to revisit the killbox soon." or something.

It is intentionally vague. We were able to glean FOOM from one sentence describing an attack on Naruto. OOC, we did it because we knew the setting. However, the QMs accepted our IC explanation.

Ami is as smart or smarter than Hazou. She has more experience fitting together disconnected bits of information to form a whole. The following is a perfectly reasonable course for her thoughts to take.

Hazou pulled a Hazou. It uses a Leaf secret, not a Gouketsu secret. What secrets do I know that they know? Shadow Clone. How could SC boost power? It is a scouting technique, so it transfers memories. SC can be used for exponential training? Fits Naruto's amazing capabilities. I will come up with 13 other possibilities, and develop tests for them all.

However, I do greatly prefer this phrasing to the previous phrasing. This is defensibly not treason, so the ANBU who is spying on us won't kill us on the spot.

Why are people talking about trying to let the Hags save face? They should essentially not exist by the time we are done with them
Our goals are getting the marriage ban lifted, having them retract their statement on gay marriage, and lessening their political power. If destruction of them as a relevant entity is the only way to accomplish that, sure. Otherwise categorically committing to only annihilation a) cuts off our options, b) isn't good for Leaf and will be looked down upon by the Hokage and other, as Keiko (also a wronged party here) said, and c) gives us a reputation we may not want especially as we haven't been in Leaf for more than a year or two and can still be viewed as kind of foreign.

Destroying them is not the goal, it is a potential side effect/method of achieving our real goals.
Another post where I mentioned this.

I understand that this is something you feel very strongly about, but if we can hurt them and lessen their power without ruining the lives of everyone associated with them, we should try and do that.

[x] Action Plan: Consider the Following Resonance Structure
I like this plan, seems very actionable. I don't particularly have opinions on the SC Ami reveal other than we should aim to not get killed.

My worry is that the clear failure point with Keiko is that we precommitted and then events unfolded in a completely different way. I see the potential for the same thing to happen here. While flowcharts might be a little much, maybe we take a leaf from Mari/Ami's book and affect a manner of speaking where we hint at things and refuse to be clear. Like "shadow clone was pretty impressive when Naruto used it, right? He's pretty strong for being so young, especially when he spent so much time learning politics and economics too."

Not entirely sure how to word that - maybe something along the lines of "acknowledge as much as she guesses?" You're kind of doing it already, but I can see it still locking us into a we-act-stupid-and-lessen-relationship.

Also make sure we have accurate levels of strength on the Hagoromo before we accidentally challenge a senior jonin and two ANBU or something.

That's all the potential pitfalls a quick read spotted.

[x] Action Plan: Consider the Following Resonance Structure

Destroying them is not the goal, it is a potential side effect/method of achieving our real goals.

To clarify, based on earlier discord conversation, the term "destroy" is being used to mean "reduce the political power of the Hagoromo to 0 permanently" whether by us co-opting their political power through puppetry, or what have you.

Hinata has been in this game for far longer than us; her social scores are gonna beat ours. Why, therefore, is the plan of attack to suss her out speaking with her?
Personally, I want to offer Hinata a sign that the Hyuga and the Gōketsu don't have to be at war with each other the same way the Gōketsu and the Hagoromo do. Admittedly I guess it's possible to extend a peace offering without meeting in person, but I was hoping that more direct communication could prevent escalation back to the way things were before Hiashi died.

We shouldn't want to be in a cold war with the Hyuga. We can get things done so much faster without incidents like this one popping up all the time.

So I think we need to make sure that if Ami finds out about FOOM it's because she reasoned it out. Telling her is treason, people. Her figuring it out is not. That it is obvious with a few pieces of information does not affect that.

Play the game. Don't get us in trouble for treason, again, because you were blunt when we needed to be circumspect. This is largely why we keep getting in trouble - we keep doing the blunt action instead of the circumspect one that leads to identical results but dumps "deniability" on our heads by the truck load.

Getting them to publicly kneel is better than destroying them, I would say. Sweeter, at least to me.

"Naruto's rather impressive for his age, isn't he? Sure, he's a jinchuuriki, but even beyond that. He's had to divide his time between learning politics, economics, and several other things, but he still managed to divide his time enough to summon up enough time to train to get so strong for such a young age. Rather impressive, that."

Then follow it up with something dismissive like...

"Still, I suppose being the darling of the Third Hokage and Jiraiya the Great will do that to someone."

(@MMKII, feel free to lift some of these lines if you'd like to. Or don't, of course, these are just some random examples.)

I thought we were planning to try and figure out Ami's true plans/motivations before letting her know about FOOM?

I'm also not convinced that accidentally leaking FOOM won't get us in big trouble. It *might* not get us killboxed, but it certainly will mean that we'll never be trusted with an S class secret again, at the very least.

We know that Ami is aligned to us via Keiko's admission, Keiko's love for Hazou, and Ami's own admission. Maybe there should be a contingency along the lines of "given Ami's response, if Hazou thinks Ami is sufficiently trustworthy, then be indirect about..." Besides, everyone in Leaf knows that the Mori are "weird, discount Nara" so it's not unlikely that they'd believe that Ami learned about SC on her own.

If I indulge myself on plan wording wrt dialogue tidbits inevitably we'll get a 700 word leviathan that has several extraneous or off-place tidbits.

That's fair, x3

Here is my contribution:

Hazou stands with his back to the sun, pulls out an apple and holds it into his shadow. Then with sleight of hand he pulls out a second, identical one from under the first apple. Then he smashes both apples against his head and gives Ami a thumbs up.

The meaning should be more than obvious.

AMI: Ah. Bold.

HAZOU: Yes.

AMI: So, when do we move against the good doctor?

HAZOU: Ummmmmmmmm okay so Clear Communication Technique: I think that I have unintentionally...

The worst best part is that I can actually picture Ami pulling this on Hazou just to troll him, even though she perfectly understood where he was going with it.

Not gonna lie, would love to read that scene and it really wouldn't come across as OOC to me.

Hazou is aware she knows but goes along with it because it seems to make her happy.

I will exclusively vote for your plan this cycle and give you two exclusive future votes if you implement @Tua's suggestion and get the plan passed.
[jk] Dangerous Dancing
Word count: Doesn't Matter
  • Perform a Mist-style interpretive dance (complete with seaweed ribbons, sharkskin robes and eel-tooth jewelry) to tell Ami about the hidden secrets of the Shadow Clone Technique
